Wedge is the *only* Rebel who could paint two Death Star kills on his fighter. So far as we know, anyway, there was a Y-Wing pilot who retreated from the first DS with Luke, Wedge, and the Falcon. The Falcon took part in both battles, but with different flight crews.
Wedge also flies as Rogue Two under Luke's command, and in Legends, takes command of Rogue Squadron when Luke steps down for Jedi stuff.

That was also the same Ian McDiarmid who played Palpatine in the prequels. Ian was in his late 30's when George Lucas casted him for the part of the Emperor for Return of the Jedi. So by the time the prequels came along, he was in his 50's which as both Ian and George said he was the perfect age for the part.

Watching this journey with you, I have found myself getting as emotional as you. I anticipate some scenes and your reaction is very much as I have come to expect. Just a piece of trivia for you, the older trooper with the beard has been confirmed as "Captain Rex" although I believe it's a retcon, since "Rex" wasn't thought of when the movie came out. But I believe that when Feloni made him in Rebels he designed his aging with the white beard to match to claim he was on Endor. I thought you'd appreciate this tidbit

Some time ago, Adam Savage announced on his YT channel he was going to build a replica of the prop used for a "Thermal Detonator".
Apparently the ATF and FBI don't know this movie at all, and didn't bother to check what a TD is, because they conducted a full on raid, and Savage had to explain it was a movie prop, not an actual thing that goes boom.

Yeah, in general generations of Star Wars fans inherit a dislike for anything other than the OT because they are told to watch it first at a young age. They put it on such a pedestal. It's great, it's what introduced me to SW, but it's a bias that sometimes feels so toxic and detrimental to one's ability to enjoy the majority of SW. No matter how much one tries to be impartial, it's hard to not have that attachment to whichever story first introduced you to SW.

30:00 Luke almost turned to the Darkside to protect Leia. Note, that it wasn’t Luke’s triumphant musical theme playing during the final lightsaber battle, it was the Emperor’s. If he’d killed Vader, he’d be the new apprentice and Palps would have gotten the enforcer he always wanted.

She's always known she was connected to someone out there? She's known she felt close to Luke since they first met but didn't know why? Didn't know how to deal with it?

So, a lot of good facts were posted in the comments, I would like to add mine as well.
    - Remember Yoda's lesson to Luke, "A Jedi uses the force for defense and knowledge, never attack" this is why Luke entered Jabba's temple the way he did, his intent was to get Han peacefully, but knew from his knowledge of the Force that Jabba would not go for it. Also putting the saber in R2 was genius, when Jabba's people scanned him it would appear as part of his mechanical insides, they would not think anything about it. Also this is why he could not destroy the Emperor, he was unarmed, so he had no way to defend himself, this would have been an attack, and lead Luke to the Dark side.
    - To my knowledge this is the only time we see a Jedi go through his trial, Luke's was a trial of compassion, to which he passed splendidly.
    - "A Certain point of View" is my favorite life lesson from any movie
    - I have mixed feelings but understand why they showed Anakin at the end in his younger form. I personally like the original which showed him older.
    - When I saw this the first time in theater, the whole audience gasped at the Luke/Leia revelation.
Great reaction to the movie though!

    • @claymccarthy6198

Great insight ... that was his trial... I think yoda foresaw the possibility of anakin coming back ... that was the reason for no weapons (the cave test) ... In the old Legends stuff, the Emperor actually cut off Vader's right hand as punishment for allowing the destruction of the first Death Star.
The Emperor allowed Vader's injuries to happen because it gave him an advantage - the Sith Way means that Vader, as the apprentice, must attempt to kill his master in a bid to be elvated to Sith Master. Vader references this on Bespin. Vzder's weskened Force abilities make him extremely formidable in his role against non Force users, but easily defeated by Palpatine when the time came.

1:55 - "How long has he (Solo) been in there?!" - It's been approximately ONE year since the end of Empire Strikes Back.
2:25 - This "musical number" was replaced for the 1997 (and beyond) Special Edition release(s). You should look up the original videos comparing the two (Original and Special Edition releases, on ALL three movies).
3:45 - Fun fact: Harrison Ford did NOT sign on for both sequels to Star Wars. He had wanted Han Solo to sacrifice himself to save both Luke and Leia.... but once he heard Lucas' reasons for keeping Han alive (and having enough dollar signs thrown at him), he agreed to come back. (And no, I'm not throwing shade at Ford for what happened to make him change his mind.... just stating that's what happened).
4:53 - Ummm... yeah.... "Choke people out like his dad....." AND he's wearing all black..... Imagine what we thought in 1983..... Ambiguous on purpose....
5:00 - About that Leia bikini..... while Episode I came out after Episode VI..... you CAN see it again with another "slave girl" at Jabba's side during the Pod Race Anakin (Leia's father) raced in on Boonta Eve.
5:05 - Luke has been spending the previous year seeking out Jedi knowledge, which is why he's so much more mature than he was a year ago. He also set up this entire plan, which you will see play out shortly. Hence why he seems so different than he did at the end of Empire.
5:35 - The Bad Batch, actually (IIRC, you watched in chronological order).... so Bad Batch should have been where you've seen a Rancor before. Minor spoiler: You will see one again, at some point. That's all I'll say. Not where, or when.... just that you will.
(Sorry, if I'm wrong, Tara.... I watch a LOT of Star Wars Reaction channels..... so I get confoozled sometimes. But I'm certain you are one of the "Chronological Order" channels I watch..... so I really have to watch what I say.)
6:10 - Rancor are very emotionally attached creatures. That fat/ugly dude was his caretaker. That's all I'll say on that.
7:10 - There's a "deleted scene" where Luke finishes assembling this lightsaber, but it was cut for two reasons: To preserve pacing of the movie, and to NOT give away the reveal that R2 had it all along.
7:30 - Okay.... MINOR spoiler.... George Lucas once said, "Had I known how much of a fan favorite Boba Fett would be, I'd have given him a "better death scene". However.... it's a good thing he didn't.... because there's ramifications because Lucas didn't. And good ones, I might add. I'll leave it at that, for now.
8:15 - Also, George Lucas explained that R2 had his "Side Thrusters" removed sometime between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope..... in order to RetCon the fact that R2 didn't have them in this movie.
8:37 - Yeah.... "Decrepit"..... remember what that "Decrepit" man can do to someone..... (insert Force Lightning here)
9:15 - These scenes with Yoda were added, (Real talk here) because Child psychologists told Lucas that children wouldn't believe that Darth Vader was telling the truth about Luke's parentage. So, these scenes with Yoda were added, because children would believe a character THAT trustworthy, to divulge the truth about it. Hell, even James Earl Jones didn't believe Vader was speaking true, and he VOICED the character!
9:40 - What Yoda is talking about here, is Luke's "Jedi Trials"... which ALL Jedi must go through. Remember when Qui-Gon said, that, "Obi-Wan is ready for the Trials"? It was a "rite of passage" for Jedi. It's also VERY individual. Dependent on each Jedi AND their experiences. For Obi-Wan, defeating Darth Maul was his Trial (and he was granted the rank of Jedi Knight). For Anakin, not succumbing to his fear of loss (which he failed), Luke's CLUE was in the cave... "Facing HIS fear"..... in other words, becoming like his father (which he didn't even know at the time.... but Yoda TOLD him not to take his weapons, but he did anyway)..... and Luke failed that test. So now, he HAS to face his father again, BUT now with the knowledge he has.... and if he fails, he will end up turning to the Dark Side, and following his father down that path.
I have to say, that this whole "test" thing, is absolutely genius!!! It is a rite of passage, but also based on one's own experiences. Lucas planned much of this out from the beginning.
10:50 - This statement goes very much along with something Obi-Wan is about to say (VERY minor spoiler). Obi-Wan and Yoda were NOT the only Jedi to survive Order 66. However, there were VERY few who did (Less than survived Geonosis' first battle), and not all of them "complete" in their training. I'm only mentioning this, because first, it's true, and second, discovering these others who began their training, only to be "not complete" in their training, could confuse you. I won't name names, nor how far along they were IN their training.... just that they DID exist. Some "Children with Force Abilities" were later discovered, well after the rise of the Empire, and could affect future events, as well as those who were either Younglings or Padawans during Order 66.
11:42 - The ONLY time in the OT that Luke refers to Kenobi as "Obi-Wan"....
12:00 - I hate to say it... but Obi-Wan is spitting facts. Remember what Qui-Gon said in Episode I.... "Your focus determines your reality." In other words, "From a certain point of view". YOUR point of view. It took me YEARS to figure this out. What Obi-Wan was saying.
13:00 - Notice the difference between the ORIGINAL Death Star's vents, and THIS Death Star's vents. The original's vents led straight to the surface... in a straight line. THIS one has "winding corridors", which means that you can't just "drop" a bomb down a single shaft and expect it to reach the Main Reactor. THAT is why they have to fly in, and down to the reactor.... THEN knock it out.... THEN make their way out of the superstructure before it explodes. The Empire figured out what Galen Erso did, to make it easy to destroy.
13:20 - Crix Madine was rescued from an Imperial Base in the game Rogue Squadron. (Not sure if this is still Canon or not, but it works for me)
15:50 - We didn't have Closed Captioning in the cinemas.... BUT, the species was named in other media. Ewoks. They were called Ewoks. Like Wookies, only shorter and more primitive. (Think "VietCong")
18:45 - Yeah... about that...... "You are to be the main feast at a banquet in MY honour".... Yeah..... about that..... Remember that... like the little girl on Jedha......
20:45 - I have to explain this one a lot..... I grew up with a sister I didn't know existed, and parents I never met. But I can relate to the fact that, HAD I "kissed my sister", I'd have known "something wasn't right". So, I fully understand Luke and Leia "figuring it out", without actually knowing.

Luke is such a different hero from most and definitely from Anakin. In every real Star Wars movie he is in, he either 'wins' or at least 'doesn't lose' by letting go, trusting a higher power to guide him or simply refusing to continue when he would need to compromise himself to do so. In many ways he is a lot like Anakin. Self-doubt, a bit angry, a bit impatient, a bit petulant etc. But when push comes to shove, he zigs towards a light side decision where Anakin would zag towards the dark side. Helps that he has an unshakeable drive to help people too.

The first one aired on ABC in 1984, and the second special aired in 1985,also on ABC. Both speicals tell the story of the ewoks helping a human family that crashed on the Moon of Endor. I saw the original release of this movie in the theater (1983); this is the remastered version with some added CGI circa 1997, and it's the same for the other two movies in the original trilogy (Lucas then pronounced the remastered versions as definitive). I have mixed thoughts about the last scene with the younger Anakin; in the original it was his older self. Each makes sense in its own way. Still, I prefer the older Anakin version. But I think I prefer your reaction to this film than others I've seen, and because you watched the prequels first you have a deeper investment in, and sense of identification with, the characters. The emotion you display is genuine (I could see your tears), and even a half-Vulcan like me was touched by that.

    1. Best guess is that Han was Jabba's "trophy" for about a year and a half before the rescue.
    2. Vader discovered Leia as Luke's sister because he could feel it through Luke.
Luke didn't know that until just before then.
    3. Luke's light saber is green because he lost his old one along with his hand so they
decided to make it green because it worked better in the desert background landscape.
    4. Everybody is freaking out because Luke and Leia kissed mostly because she was trying
to piss off Han. They didn't know they are related.
    5. The "I love you. I know" was written into the script to get Leia the shot to say it to Han.
    6. This was Warrick Davis'/Lead Ewok first acting gig. He was only 13.
Willow is his lead with Val Kilmer and worth a first time/share.😎
    7. Awesome camera work with the race through the forest. Nobody in their right mind would go that fast.
    8. A little corn. Hans' reaction to Leia telling him Luke is her brother.
    9. Jedi is plural. With Luke and Leia leading the way they can reestablish the Jedi back into the galaxy.
    10. Ford wanted Han to die in this episode.
    11. This is the best of the original 6 George Lucas Star Wars. After this he sold it to Disney, and everything changed. Sadly

Which means under that makeup in Return of the Jedi, the actor was years and years younger than when we first see him in Phantom Menace, and yet he still brought enormous gravity to the role with a skill usually associated with actors at the end of their careers (Guinness' Obi-Wan, Cushing's Tarkin, etc)
