We all hate wasting time behind the drumkit- I dont want to waste time to practice my endurance- and I dont want to practice speed anymore... I focused on these topics in the past for quite some time and now that I reached my goals- I want my skills to stay that way with just a minimum amount of time spent on maintaining my speed and endurance.
as a drummer- I'm sure you remember times were you had a lot of free time to practice and your speed and endurance got better each practice session...during that time you built up your strength and stamina in your forearms and legs but then suddenly ….life get's in the way and you have to take a break for 2 or 3 weeks and your endurance or speed goes down again... this problem is a physical not a mental one.
I hate it when stuff like that happens, because my main focus is progress- not maintenance... we all don't want to practice stuff again which we were able to play weeks ago already.
In my case- especially when it comes to maintaining speed and endurance at the drums- the switch grip technique was the the solution to this challenge.
As soon as you get the switch grip down you don't have to worry about keeping your endurance up with regular practice sessions any more... and here's why:....
since we switch back and forth between different muscle groups every other bar, the result is that your muscles play for one or two bars, and then they get a break immidiatley after that..
    so try this at home:
set your metronome at lets say 200bpm and just use the technique you are used to.
Now play two bars of 1/8notes and then rest for 2 bars immidiately after that-
now try to do this as long as possible... I'm pretty sure that you can keep this up for a couple of minutes easily...
and that's actually what the switch grip technique does for you: since we have the possiblity to switch our grips and finger involvement you never really get exhausted- a part of your forearm works only for a short period of time followed by an immidiate break- so you keep muscle fatigue as low as possible.
When it comes to blast beats the main challenge is the left hand because it's playing non stop while the right hand gets some breaks in between like when you play accents on the crash cymbal for example...
that's why I use the switch grip technique with my left hand exclusively in this video...
so.... talk is cheap- here's the demonastration: 1 camera, 230bpm for 10 minutes straight.

This is by far the best method for blast beat (endurance) I ever came across. I start practicing a whole month in 200bpm every 10 minutes using this method follow up with 30sec break time. After this practice, I start doin some cover like Obscura to Suffocation, and it actually help my left hand to get that consistent power and endurance that my right hand got. Trying to keepin up the routine till I can get that full power on Necrophagist track lol. Thank's man, I owe you for the lesson (sorry for bad grammar)

I recently applied you're practice techniques in this video to an incredibly difficult guitar section that I play in my own music. The section is 16th notes at 180bpm or alternatively 8th notes at 360bpm (I find it easier to count this movement at 360)
I found it increasingly frustrating to not be able to keep my endurance consistent due to the intense speed. That is to say before I applied this manner of practice.
    So thank you Marthyn!
I recommend trying this if you are a guitar player struggling with fast repetitious riffs/solos!
