  • Gary Plauché suffered a stroke in 2011. He died in 2014 at a nursing home after another stroke, at the age of 68.
    ---------------
Gary Plauché is considered the patron saint of Father's Day, because of what he did to a karate instructor who assaulted one of his children. this particular incident is so famous because the vengeance of this father was caught on film, in full color.
during 1983 and 1984, Gary's 11-year-old son was taking karate lessons from this Chester. this Chester had been doing things for over a year before finally kidnapping the son, fleeing to a motel in Anaheim, where he continued his chickenshit behavior.
The Chester allowed the boy to place a collect call to his mother, leading to the police raiding the motel and arresting him without incident.
on March 16th, 1984, the Chester was flown back to Louisiana to face charges. he was being led, handcuffed, through the Baton Rouge Metropolitan Airport at 9:30pm. an employee of the local ABC affiliate had told Plauché exactly when the perp walk would occur.
The local news affiliate had sent cameras to record the Chester's arrival. as the Chester was marched between the cameras and a bank of payphones, One of the people using one of the payphones suddenly turned, and dropped the receiver. there's an instant where you recognize Gary's face, before he presses a .38 caliber revolver up against the Chester's head and pulls the trigger.
Gary was immediately swarmed and disarmed by police. The Chester died in a hospital the following day, and Gary was initially charged with second-degree murder, but pleaded out to manslaughter for which he received 5 years probation, and 300 hours of community service, with Judge Frank Saia ruling that sending Plauché to prison wouldn't help anyone, and that there was virtually no risk of him committing another crime. during a 2012 interview, Gary said that he had absolutely no regrets, and would absolutely do it again.
Gary's son Jody release a book on the topic in 2019, saying in an interview with the Mirror that he was happy with his life and regarded his father as "the greatest dad of all time".
