Hainan is a lovely island with many things going for it. The weather, apart from the occasional typhoon, is balmy and agreeable. The food is delicious, as in many other parts of China, and affordable. Great destination.

Hainan is an absolutely stunning location! I`ve had a few Chinese friends take me on video tours when they went on vacations there. (The huge Buddhist Monastery/Temple there,on the coast,is a MUST SEE!). HOWEVER, IF you think the 1st Tier cities like Shenzhen are expensive?? Hainan is definitely geared towards catering to the wealthiest Chinese and foreigners! Just be prepared for the prices, and don't be shocked if you can't find a hotel room for less than $300USD/Night for a single, Queen Bed 2 star hotel. You can find some incredible deals on food though, outside of the tourist areas..And everyone I know that's been there said it was the best seafood they`d EVER eaten!
