I travelled to Xinjiang during summer vacation two years ago,we rode horses in the mountains and the 19 year old young man guide told us proudly about his school work,he was studying hard to go to a university and was willing to find a work in a large city in Southwest China.I can still remember he had a sense of happiness in his words.

我是新疆人，我们家种棉花三十多年了，从种植到收获大多是自己家人或者请农工，但是都是支付费用的。美国所说的的强迫劳动简直是放*。非常感谢你拍这个视频给大家看，这就是真实的新疆，虽然种棉花辛苦但是可以养活一家人，干半年休息半年，还是很幸福的。

Aibi, Xinjiang Agricultural Drone Pilot, is 20 years old and comes across to me as a very articulate, intelligent, fluently bilingual young man who is happy with his life and optimistic about his future (despite not having a girlfriend :) ). Basically, for his entire life, USA and coalition forces have occupied neighboring Afghanistan in "Operation Enduring Freedom." I think you would find very few Afghani 20yr old young men or women whose lives can compare or are better than Aibi. Great video.
He reminds me quite a bit of one of my friend during my senior midschool day, humble, a bit shy, and pretty low-key in his life view and goal. Sometimes I'm quite jealous at people like him (Aibi), who can live a fulfilled life without having much to expect or think about for his life😔
I think he went to university, probably an electrical engineer. But went back home to work as the electrical and automation engineer there. He is handsomely paid, which is why he said he won't leave for now. Earning big money and living a good life.

Meanwhile a youtuber who has been doing videos in Xinjiang for 6 long years was expelled from there 2 years go, despite his videos are all about cultural contents. A few weeks ago, he mentioned some of his Uyghur friends were throw into camps and even jail, all without trials. Then, we have this youtuber allowed to visit Xinjiang! How obvious can paid youtubers be?

For those who are really interested who the youtuber is, FarWestChina is his xinjiang channel and hQs8X8KO88c is the video where it has posts sharing about why he stopped doing xinjiang videos
Firstly, in his xinjiang channel, one can clearly see how it is all about cultural stuffs, food, religions culture etc. Nothing political. Even CCTV, a china state media interviewed him.
hQs8X8KO88c video is where he shared about why he stop doing it. His words hold way more credibility than any youtubers who are jumping on the viewership aka money opportunity that "xinjiang" topic can bring, backed by potential china state media agenda.
I m a Chinese living in Hong Kong, I have been traveling in Xinjiang 3 times, what I saw in Xinjiang is what on this video. As a Chinese, I really think that is a scam when the western social media said there is genocide in Xinjiang and forced them to learn and work. Xinjiang are Chinese, what is wrong to ask them to learn Chinese an official language in your own country, and let them to have better chance to earn a living and communicate any where in the country.

I visited inner Mongolia in 2017 I think (could also be 2016 lol). We saw a huge machine very long,like 50 meters maybe, at the end of a farm land. Like a huge clothing rack. We were curious what that is and we asked the farmer. He said that was a machine for watering if I remembered correctly. We asked whether he owns it as it looks, well simple but huge, so must not cheap. He told us it's paid by CCP, and owned as the village or a small group of farmers (sorry can't remember exactly anymore). As they don't need to water everyday, so they have a schedule who can use the machine on which day. I found myself shocked! That CCP is not as bad as what western media told me and I don't know which party pays for farming machines to their farmers in Australia. Maybe they do as well and i just don't know.
From then, I started to question all negative reports about China.
Also as a Chinese Australian, I feel more proud rather than feel pressurized with my background.

There's always been free education in China. Even when Mao Zedong won the war. I know because my mum studied in Fudan college and then Peking university during the cultural Revolution. She said the only fees were things like excursions etc.

No. Just read any local China news. Chinese farmers do not own their land. They are forced to give up their land and be centralized. The machine you saw is the result of that. Small individuals had no choice but forced to give up their lands and combined by the Chinese government to make the BIG farm you see in the video. The big farms are not owned by the farmers. It's own by the government organizations like 额敏县农乐打瓜专业合作社.
In 2017, the Chinese local news already reported that was huge corruption within those organizations. It's because there is actually very few farmers who get what they are promised after they had given up their land to the government.
You can just read any local news. This happens all the time in China. Not only Xinjiang.
The workers you saw in the video are not the righteous farmers. They are hired to work in the super farm after the lands are being ripped off from the original land owners.

Not long ago, most all Uighurs were certainly poor farmers and China's central government owned all land in China,
HOWEVER,
all those family farms were 'de facto' in practice their own family farms.
Recently, as reported by local and provincial and national news all over Mainland China it's been well covered that more and more of those farmland were converted into these large corporate modern farmlands.
Don't worry, the gracious national government gave most of these farmers free re-education while they razed their farms to the ground.
So when you see this kind of video you're seeing the former "landowners" (or at least, in practice) returning to what was once their farms, gone, vanished and now, instead, they are trained to be workers on this large national government run corporate farm.
They were assigned those jobs.
Don't worry, they've been compensated for the farmhouse and farmland that was once their families home: They get a new home in a nearby town assigned by the Chinese government.

A support from Taiwan. I've been searching for this type of youtubers like you who tend to balance the statements among the internet. I very often try my best to reveal "the other side of the story" to my foreign colleagues and friends about Mainland China, especially the recent issues about Xinjiang. However, the massive media empire mainly dominant from the west media has made it extremely hard to find any useful and reliable resources to show. In addition, even though I did show my foreign colleagues and friends some evidences, they tend to ignore them or treat them like the propagandas/conspiracies from Mainland China.
I guess all I want to say is that I'm so thankful to see more people who are willing to stand up and say the right thing. Didn't know where you stand for Taiwan. Nevertheless, I just want to make a point that as a Chinese who came from Taiwan, I am very proud and will always be proud of being a Chinese.

It will be absorbed into a greater 'Han' Mainland China. You would find stunning changes since you left and in 5 years you will return to what will seem like any other province in most anywhere in China.
80% of the population will be 'Han' and come from other provinces.
Almost all young people, the high school kids will look, act, talk and engage in weibo or 'boy bands' and wear the same fashions, Han Fu as you'd see anywhere else in any Eastern cities.

A lot of the uncles are working in other cities. Almost all the men aged 18 to 65 have actually been assigned to work in different cities around Mainland China.

Yes indeed, some of your relatives are still living there and farming and there sure was a big improvement! When you left they had these rough, hard-living family farms but those are now replaced with these large government-built modern farms with expensive machines and a whole series of schedules and shared labor days and assigned harvesting duties. New safety gear, inspectors, new standards etc.

@@AdamFitzJKD basic Mandarin is not as difficult as you thought ! Mandarin is very easy to start and grab some simple daily phrases, there is no tense, no genitive case, no special cases, nothing. Grama is almost the same as short sentences in English. The real difficult part is reading/writing and almost-endless degree of complexity if you dig deeper.
You won’t be disappointed, after I went to China the first time, I couldn’t wait to go back again, and I will go back again as soon as travel restrictions lifted! I’ve been learning mandarin for a few years and have made some really beautiful friends!

I’m married to a white guy and have 2 children together. I’ve always had a mixed feeling about China.
