She's such a unique artist, and this song/MV is so HER, she said it herself and it's visible on the video how much she likes this, the lyrics, the instrumentals, the concept, the styling, everything's great, I just wish she had more recognition

@@marseaman you can't have the cake and eat it at the same time. RBW may have its flaws, but they gave the girls room to express themselves while in front of the camera. You can see some of the other female idols and girl groups, where they appear to be abit more reserved especially while in front of the camera of broadcasting companies.

I recognized Aiki in the surgeon gown on first watch and had to Google it to make sure that my mind wasn't tricking me. Then I found the Lunatic Tic Tok with Moonbyul and Aiki still in their costumes from the MV.

According to Moonbyul, the upcoming EP, as well as her previous releases, are gender neutral.
"So far, i have been trying to release songs that do not sound either feminine or masculine, because i believe i am quite androgynous," she said. "I want to become a person who can challenge the binary view of gender through music."

For consideration: maybe she killed the love itself with her obsession. Maybe not a physical person. She mentioned that this album is about a relationship and decline thereof, in part because of fluctuating moods and obsession…pushing someone away even though you don’t want them to leave…lots of things. So that made me think: maybe it was the love itself she unintentionally killed.
It’s worth noting that the English subtitles are just the English version’s lyrics. It’s not quite a translation, though similar in many places.
Perhaps adding even more nuance and additional context to the original translation.. but yea for the first part of chorus I find 1thek's is easier to understand
Yes that is correct as Byul herself described it as a selfish kind of love in Lunatic. Which explains why it is followed by For Me in the album which describes regret
About the storyline, there was something a fan said that really makes sense. Which is that since this entire album is about different phases of one relationship, and Shutdown very explicitly showed a sapphic relationship, there's a chance that the whole 'lunatic' thing is tied to being queer.
Queer people were always classified as "crazy" or "mentally ill" and here, we see all through the lyrics Moonbyul trying to say that she's not crazy, just different. She mentions something along the lines of "when I was young, my mom didn't understand me" too. So while it could be a song about an obsessive lover, it could also be about a breakup that happened due to society's norms and stigma around queer relationships, and how Moonbyul is trying to clarify herself.
About the choreo, I noticed that she has taken on a different style of dance too, very different from her usual style which is kinda boyish and charismatic. And yet, it does not feel new for her, she looks very natural. Even with popular dancers in k-pop, I've noticed that a lot of them have a style that they specialize in and when they get a different choreo, there's still part of that style stuck to their moves. For example, Soojin is known for her sensual and sexy dance style. And while she's a great dancer, whenever she has to do a more different concept, she still has that sexy vibe to some extent. I'm not saying this is a bad thing, but the way that Byul can nail different dances really impresses me. Especially since the moves here are fun and perky, and these kind of dance moves usually end up looking cute or childish, but it really doesn't when Moonbyul does it. Her solo career is definitely going to blow up.

I actually agree with your comparison to it feeling like a movie musical, the way they weave in storyline with the choreo. Also, just the way Moonbyul is always working to push boundaries. I love it.
Yes, there is something just so right about this comeback. It feels perfect for Moonbyul. It lets her show off every one of her talents, from flow to rap to singing to dancing to acting. Huge emphasis on the acting -- I hope you get to see her 1theK performance clip because WOW, she must be taking classes or something. She's SOOOO charismatic and expressive there. You would love it. And the music video and song are just amazing. IMO my favorite moonbyul track ever and I'm fully addicted to it!!!!

She said that when Solar first heard the song she told her "it's like you found/you're wearing your own clothes" and I feel like that's such a perfect metaphor for how perfectly the song fits Moonbyul and it can only be just Moonbyul's
And this is why I love Mamamoo so much. Each one of them has an authentic personality and that is shown in their music.
An interesting fact: Lyrics for this MV uploaded on MAMAMOO channel is actually the lyrics for Lunatic English Version; a bit different than literal translation on the 1thek channel.

6equence clearly surpassed my expectations, and although we've seen quite fun/chill sounds with those clip releases, I hope you check out ddu ddu ddu/For me because they portray her vocal abilities going from falsettos to straight up belting and convey so much emotions that I actually felt like I was going through a break up (I'm single af 😭😭). She outdid everything I had been waiting for, nailing the whole "6 stages of a relationship" concept, yet everything being Moonbyul fitting. Thank you for the reaction!
I really love the discussions you have for all of Moonbyul's music, especially shutdown. Love how she's constantly pushing boundaries. Recently in an interview with Solar, she said that she wants to be known as a "one and only" type of artist. I think she is definitely already doing that. She deserves so much and I hope many more people can discover her wonderful music. I also rate this comeback an 11/10.

I went into this with very high expectations and Lunatic blew it all up. This was just such a fantastic song and MV all around, and it was just so Moon Byul. I loved that it showcased her personality and charm. I really appreciated your analysis and insight. I totally agree that this song was so interesting because of Moon Byul, her attitude and charisma that just oozes from the song and MV. The voice inflections are very Moonbyul. The lulu nananana hook sounds so perfect with her tone
This is defintly my favorite song on the album. The chorus is so good and moonbyuls visuals are insane.

I get the impression she has found her sound. It's easy for me to point out a Moonbyul song even with all the different genres she's done because there is always a uniqueness to the songs that just scream Moonbyul

To continue with Eclipse’s concept of Moonbyul having a good and a bad side, Lunatic also mentions having two distinct personalities. So the “killer” in this video is probably indicating she’s confused with herself rather than the other person. (maybe)

I think lunatic is very relatable. It's moody girlfriends anthem. It's actually a reality. It happens a lot... The pushing and pulling someone base on your mood.
I hope you could also check her B-sides For me and the rock- ballad that she write and composed "ddu ddu ddu" The whole album genre is very refreshing

i love watching your Moonbyul reactions bc i also am a DIE HARD Moonbyul stan. i share your thoughts completely on this one! i do kind of wish the song/MV concept/plot kind of "tied into" the other MVs and scenario films more (like the concept for the intro Synopsis was so compelling and i kind of wanted it to be continued in the title track) but Lunatic is really incredible, super different from what i expected but in some ways MORE than what i expected. it's also so witty how she chose the eng word Lunatic bc that's also a play on her name (Moon = Luna). she's really an artist!
Synopsis as Moonbyul explained actually is like a summary of all the events that happened in the relationship so it comes after all the tracks although it can also be used as an intro to give an idea of what to expect from the songs on the album (based on the visual film)

I also loved this song!! It’s so easy to listen and groove to! It does remind me a little of her 1st song release Selfish in a sense that this seems so cute to me. But the difference is that Lunatic really fits her personality. I also thought that this would have been a darker concept but I love that it doesn’t follow my expectation!

I aways love your reactions. Lunatic is her best title track because it's HER. Everything about it embodies Moonbyul's personality, the fashion, the fun quirky dance, the vocals and rap flows. Everything. I really love the song and I'm so proud to be a fan of this lady. She never stops challenging herself and breaking boundaries and she just gets better with every new song she releases.

Everything in 6equence is fantastic. Despite spanning genres the way it does (especially going from Lunatic to the slow / ballad songs), it feels SO correct and complete. Everything on the album really feels like it has a purpose for me and, OK definitely biased because it's Byul and I love her, but it might be one of my top 3 mini album releases in kpop.
