Woah! I'm early! I am no where near caught up. However- I wanted to stop by and express my gratitude for you channel. I am currently stuck in a situation where I had so many ideas for my first game, but with no mock up. Skipping to this series helped show me the necessity of a game mock up! I'm quickly realizing how in over my head I was expecting ideas to just... work out? With the limited colors and space, conveying complex shapes and ideas has been extremely difficult! I'm attempting a sort of pet-care game, but find UI design along with both an unlocked or locked y axis movement for the pet to be. Extremely difficult to navigate color wise. I'm stubborn though, and refuse to give up any of my pet designs so far. Growing pains.
Beautiful animation - very Akira worthy! A nice variation on the screen flash might be turning all light colors to white, dark colors to black and some of the inbetween tints to grey? Just for a couple of frames, and then reset them to the default palette. Sort of what happens to the cityscape in the Akira shot, when the inversion happens. On the other hand ... tokens are a scarce commodity 😉
I think the visual glitch at 36:42 was from a frame-perfect bomb button press right when the game started before the update function had time to set up the map properly.

Ooooh! You are soooo right! The map actually takes more than a frame to set up, especially when starting further up in the level!
Very much disagree with the comment about too much “jabber”. The vids are great as is. Scripted tutorials aren’t helpful, we need to see the mistakes!
