I think Josh thought puting them there would be a way to win the crowd perhaps.... unfortunately though the crowd was composed of metalheads waiting for the Iron Maiden show that would be playing later that night.....so you basically got a band that absolutely no one knew and cared nothing about playing an almost 20 minutes trippy version of YCQMB with a never ending solo.... let's just say it didn't go too well as you can see by the crowd chanting "son of a bitch" in portuguese at the end.... I heard later that the only reason QOTSA played there that day was because Dave Ghrol requested/demanded it(Foo Fighters was one of the bands playing in the festival). Fortunately though, they came back years later after they were already known and liked by fans around here and it was an awesome fun show.

They can keep that beat going for hours for the others to play capoeira, it's called "roda de capoeira"... Highly recommend you check it out on YT, nothing else quite like it

Guns and Queens played with them capoeira boys, olodum, berimbau, variations of. Can't remember other bands doing the same, it's been a long time, will check. Nick got arrested after this gig for playing naked, stating "but I though everyone here walked naked" (because of carnival), they went to a traditional Rio samba school (Salgueiro, the best one as far as percussion is concerned, rs), all that tourist stuff. Had an extra ticket to go to this concert and still missed it, will NEVER forgive myself even after seeing 5 or 6 Queens gigs so far.

So wrong, the best thing ever to happen to desert rock was to get beyond Kyuss-Garcia style cliche metal vocals. I can’t listen to Kyuss because the lead singing is so awful.
