Being deep and funny at the same time is a great gift. I was watching a DVD yesterday from E.Tolle and feeding my fish at the same time and I laughed and felt deep happiness at the same time.

Seeing that my neighbour has angel wings tattooed on his back made me happy today. It was a funny surprise. I gave his wife some strawberry plants I'd been given this morning. We're born, we live, we die. We have no choice but to cherish this incredible life we've been given. I realise this now, at nearly 50.
Happiness comes from inside by appreciating what you already have - think health, family, running water, internet, enough food to eat etc. When you are not happy now you will never be.
Even when you're sick, alone or homeless (like Eckhart Tolle himself was when he slept in the park) there are plenty of things to be grateful for.
Being alive by itself is a reason to be happy. When you're dead it will be over. Thus cherish the moment and don't think about the things you don't have.

Mr Tolle- I wish I would have found you *years ago.* Oh how I could have saved myself from so much mental anguish, confusion and pain! Not to mention too how I would have benefited in numerous other ways just by learning to tap into my true self; awakening. (But perhaps I found you in the correct time that was meant to be for my souls journey.) Regardless, I so appreciate your insights, teachings and contributions to humanity. Let go of seeking and allow finding.
Having most of your needs met makes you happy. And having humility. Meaningful work that pays enough to cover the bills and a bit for fun and I'm good. My cat lying next to me in my sunny bedroom on a Sunday afternoon makes me deeply happy. Not having enough money to pay the bills doesn't. Happiness is really simple to achieve. A sunny home and food in the fridge, and friends. But to be able to have these things you need a job that pays a fair wage, and good social cover if you fall ill. The rest (luxury labels and status symbols) is a want. Most people have trouble distinguishing between the two.
Thank you Eckhart. I was going to say you are helping us to find ourselves - find happiness. But really, as you said, we are there now. Thank you for helping us to realize this truth.

lucie léanne Well you can still buy and enjoy material things, buy you don't need them in order to be happy/peaceful. Also maybe a shift takes place where you more often buy things that benefits other beeings then just yourself, directly or indirectly. Just my view on the subject :)

Clearly people perceive happiness lacking here which is why they go searching for it. Not like there is utter happiness sitting right in of our nose that we are ignoring it and suddenly by turning awareness to present moment it is seen to be the case. How on earth do you still explain meditators with 10 years of vipassana under their belt which are still suffering? Is only eckhart being able to turn his attention towards the present moment and notice the happiness? How utterly ridiculous.

I'm 36 have depression.still live with my parents, never been in a relationship and I have no friends. I find it hard to find happiness I'm looking for friends and love to make me happy. I can't do it by myself.

If happiness is inside of us then what would the point be to improve our lives by changing our lifestyle, geographical locations? If none of those things can bring us happiness. Let me explain. Im happy but I want to move country and do lots of things with my life. Now I'm sure those changes will bring me happiness in my life. I feel like happiness can be found in the external as well not just the internal.
