- Hey guys! Just a quicks video on the Tail as Turn modification from Diode Dynamics. This mod allows your break light to become you indicator light as well. In turn this frees up the old amber bulb spot, allowing you to install an extra reverse light in its place. I hope you enjoy!

Can’t thank you enough for this video. Application, both sides installed with new LED reverse lights in 15 minutes. What a huge difference, absolutely luv it. New application multiple red LED turn signals are much more visible near and far than the original single amber bulb. New application white LED backup lights are intensely bright near and far. Hands down this tail as turn application not only looks super clean and bright with the LED’s but in my opinion it is a huge advantage related to safety when my wife travels with our children because day or night the LED indicators visibly near or far are so bright. I actually purchased the same Diode Dynamics Tail as Turn module for $49.99 and the LUYED 2 X 1700 Lumans Extremely Bright 102-EX Chipset white LED’s as reverse lights shown in this video for $17.99 on Amazon. I have not received any free gift or kick back in any way from Amazon, Diode Dynamics or the author of this UA-cam video. The combination looks amazing and it provides an increased awareness to those who see you signal to turn and or back your vehicle up, it’s the safety factor for myself. I did this mod a few months back and installed OXILAM LED bulbs and I'm loving it. I appreciate the videos man... you've been my go to source for mods/installs, especially because I like seeing that cavalry blue 4runner. love that color on the 4runner! I have a 2016 trail premium in MGM. I traded my old '06 4runner for it in early 2017, since the dealership gave me a good offer on it (while it was being serviced). if I had known that color was going to be released I would have waited on it. I have even played with the idea of selling my 2016 to buy one, lol.
The beauty is that the hold their value. Love MGM though
I want to do this mod but I'm not a fan of losing a brake light while my signal is on. I wonder if there's a way to make the stock turn signals into reverse/signal switch back? It's rare that you need a turn signal while in reverse anyway.
Just finally did this mod lol even though it was one of the first videos I ever watched of yours over a year ago lol. Wish they were able to make a switchback that would allow for white reverse lights on top but keeping the yellow blinker functionality. Cause I will dearly miss my Lasfit amber LEDs blinking in the taillight

Just purchased for a christmas gift for myself thank you you help i hav led interior bulbs and now this the amber delete on headlights all from your videos great work keep up the content
Just something to consider. If you use a backup camera, the amount of light may be too much for the fixed aperture of the camera. I ran into this when just replacing the backup bulbs with LEDs. You mileage may vary.

Terry Sides yup, found that out when I installed a Baja designs S2 Pro in my Subaru. Can’t see my LED upgraded reverse lights anymore, just the cone of light. On IG @subieascent when they do the tail as turn for the Ascent I’ll be trying dual LEDs 😀 as they are higher than my mod
Question I have on this is the Toyota blinkers lens being not designed to aim the light output downward .. real bright behind but maybe not on the pavement or dirt. Would be good seeing taller things though. Wish there was a shot of it after dark ouside to see if it helped downwards at all. I think i may go with low profile rectangular fog lamps under rear. But thats a great easy one to do.

Was it just me or after you installed the module when you put the blinker on for a specific side....the other side bottom red part of lens blinked as well?
It may have been reflection. All that blinks now is just the break light portion of the light.
So what turn (7443) led's do you think are the best to get? Have you ever blown a fuse by changing the reverse bulbs (921 7443)?
No I haven’t blown a fuse. And the ones that I got are SUPER bright. I can see though my tint while backing up.

Did you run into the problem with brake light overlapping the turn signal? For instance, if your turn signal is engaged, and then you press your brake light, the brake will overlap the turn signal pattern.
Never had that issue
My 2015 light doesn’t come out that easily there are two tabs at the bottom and one to the side…not a single video covers this

How did the LED lights affect the backup camera during the day/night?
Can’t tell during the day. Night time it really has improved visibility
Cool. I saw someone else do this but it wasn’t a kit with a resistor so the light blinked fast.
I may do this mod since you can change the blinker to reverse for more brightness when backing up.
I’m currently deciding if I want to install a winch when I install my Lightbar and air compressor.
He may have build his own harness and just didn’t do the resistor. And if you can do it just do it all at once since the bumper has to come off. Depending on your winch though you may have to beef up the suspension but just depends how much you got going on up front.
Hey! I really want to switch my 4 runners lights all to leds. Like all the headlights including low beam, high beam, the back lights like reverse lights, brake lights and just everything. Anyway you can send me a list of what leds you think are the best and easy to install?

Let me bounce an idea off you. I did this mod but would like to install a switch to turn the reverse lights on whenever I wanted. For working at night, blinding tailgaters, etc. Shouldn’t be difficult just a matter of knowing how to.

Thanks for this! What's the latest on bulbs selection? I'd like to do this mod and would like to choose the best LED bulbs for both the previous turn signal bulbs and existing reverse lights. Ideally they'd be the same color match. I know you cycle through different products and this video is a little old. Any updates or reccomendations? Thank you again.
Just go with the same brand and they should be the same color temp. Auxbeam has been working well for me

Yep It was about 50 when I bought it as well. If you check diode dynamics on theline they sell a whole package too

Hey dude, I’m going to swap my 24” rigid that’s in my grill for a 30” radiance. Do you think I can mount the 24” under my tail gate for extra light if I need it back there? Not directly hooked up to my backup lights, just extra.
Under the tail gate? Like under the bumper? Or you have a truck ?
Where can I get the LED lights for the (Original) smaller reverse light?
They should be 921 bulbs I believe. I got mine on amazon

The resistor should be bolted to the frame. It is designed to be used this way. The chassis of the resistor is a heat sink and it is expected to be bolted down for additional thermal dissipation to a larger metal body.

I tried just to change Turn signals ( rears ) to LEDs but they wouldn’t turn on and turn was flashing rapidly. Do you know if I need resistors for them or is it something else since they wouldn’t ever light up?
If they are flashing fast then it should just be a resistor. The light isn’t flashing at all though ?
Blue TRD Jon A so I did exactly how you did it and brake light is now turn as well but the old turn light is still doesnt want to turn on with new led light bulb... maybe i meed to modify the led bulb itself?!
OH. Ok I see, I'd make sure that the green wire (one that i tapped into) make sure that is super tight and crimped down.
How do you replace the brake light?
Do JDM Astar for bottom reverse lights.
I think my old reverse lights are those. In person they match better.

Cool. I'm interested to see that. How are the HID's working up front? I saw another video by an online retailer where they tested LEDs, Halogens and HIDs in a projector headlamp and showed why they don't recommend LED's for the projectors. The HID mod just looks more complicated than switching in some LEDs...
Correct. That’s why I went with HIDS instead of LED. Amd HIDS are the same kind of plug and play like LED is. They have a couple extra wires but that’s for the HID kit itself.
Yeah. I guess, drilling the dust cap and then pulling back all of the materials to find a place to hide the HID kit is what scares me. You do make it look pretty easy, though.
The most difficult part was drilling. Just patience and staying calm while doing the project helps.

Correct yes. The factory tint is inside the glass itself. And I went 5 around the whole thing except the windshield

Yes. They are just stuck on. Heat gun should do the truck
