Our best decision when retiring here in the Philippines was moving out of the city to the countryside. We have a beautiful farm site, screens on the window (very important) It's peaceful, quiet, low cost of living, and distant neighbors so we don't hear them or their Dogs and chickens. We save lots of $$ on expenses that can be used for weekend excursions instead of paying high rent. We are not paying $17 a month BUT very reasonable. If we were still in the states our costs there would wipe out our pensions the first few days of the month. Here we almost can't spend it! The best plan is live in the country, grow your own food and VISIT THE CITIES during your free time.

Ive been living in the philippines province for over 4 years, from the uk so im used to cool weather. However, I find I mostly dont need aircon and a fan is enough. But here's a pro tip to make life comfortable during brownouts. Get a battery backup power station, either to run a mains fan, or more efficiently, a 12v fan like you see on truck dashboards. They're only 5 or 10 watts so really help to make the battery last. Also a 12v light, plus you can charge your phone too. The reason for 12v is so you dont get the efficiency loss using the inverter. Just make sure the battery has enough capacity for your needs. Mine's about 1kw hour.

Thank you It’s still would like to see more places that you can rent in different areas of the providences their amenities and what they have to offer. I find this very interesting. Currently in Makati, but flying into Cebu Tuesday. Should I decide to stay longer, I'll get something long-term, but I'm looking for hotel recommendations for about a week. Expense is not a concern. Any insights are appreciated.
If you’re interested in checking out Cebu City you could stay at the Seda hotel. The one either in the Business Park or IT would work. If you’re looking for upscale accommodations then go out to Lapu-Lapu and stay at one of the resorts out there. Neustar casino is another option as well as the Waterfront.
@@CarefreeChris Booked a room at Seda Ayala. Resorts are fine, but I want to be within walking distance of the mall. I'm traveling around SE Asia, narrowing the list of potential places to hang my hat, and I think this will offer a better opportunity to get the lay of the land, and a feel for the community.
I have been to BGC and Makati. I liked it there more than I thought I would. I wouldn't want to live there as I feel like I'm still in the US but nice place for sure and ideal for the person who wants western living.
We regularly get those spiders ..they are very fast, cannot live them so close by though. Just part of the Philippines..my partner says there house spiders are the same size in the UK. I reckon the apartment is cheap for only 5k a month and you got more privacy. By the way that ampalaya is called bitter melon in English my husband doesn't mind eating it.
ampalaya I was told is bitter gourd. Wow can not believe they fit 4 people in that tiny room , jail cells are bigger. LOL. We have those spiders in the house all the time. Took me awhile to get used to those huge spiders since I am not a spider fan. I have not had a real shower in a really long time, use a tabo everyday. Also we have no AC in our house. The fan works well.
That's what I'm talking about, a nice little studio in the province for $100 or less. I just don't want to move there to be inside all the time. I am more of an outdoor guy so why waste $? That spider was defiantly an XL, lol. I want to find out what type they have there. I dispatched 5 Black Widows last night. Now those really get me on edge. I have been bitten twice before and the first time did not go well! Edit: That looks like a normal PH house spier, big but not harmful to humans, likes to dine on cockroaches, so an ally! Ironically the only two species there that are dangerous have been introduced, and are both of the Black Widow family. 🤦♂
@KevinVenturePhilippines You can look up 'pension houses' in Cebu and find some that are around the same price. Those type of dwellings are plentiful in the Philippines. Edit: to say; That place looked a lot nicer then most 'pension houses'
We are curious why many americans scared of spiders and i heard they are no.1 phobia there 🤭, in the Philippines we just played them like toys, and we also use them for vice, fight spider each other with bettors around

It would be helpful to the guy if you could mention the city in your description. Its can be cheap living here... I think you are in Palompon Leyte Philippines... If you need decent medical help its not the best place to live for a foreigner..
You got the city right
they say davao is also a great city to visit & meet people.
¿ have u been their & whats your overall assessment of it
I'll be in Davao City for sure. On my list
@@CarefreeChris give us the scoop , will ya
I would like to see some more places out in the providences that have more of a full kitchen full bathroom a little bit more western style if that is possible, but I love this video and it helps explain a lot
Noted and more to come. Might be more towards the beginning of the next year as I’ll be upgrading my place there in the provinces
Thank you
It’s still would like to see more places that you can rent in different areas of the providences their amenities and what they have to offer. I find this very interesting.
I looked at Thailand as a place to go, but in the end, I decided it’s not for me. The Philippines was next on my list.
Not true, I live in Cebu
It's my girlfriends boarding house. It's what she pays.
Studio all day everyday. Needs a Murphy bed, or convertible futon couch, fridge, desk and two chairs voila. Eat out and laundry out you are a rich man - great job!
Right on. That’s the plan:)
Where was this studio? What city? I'm in dumaguete. Rents killing me. Lol
We were in Palompon Leyte. Really remote, near Ormoc
Currently in Makati, but flying into Cebu Tuesday. Should I decide to stay longer, I'll get something long-term, but I'm looking for hotel recommendations for about a week. Expense is not a concern. Any insights are appreciated.
Come to Bohol and I’ll give you a tour.
@@CarefreeChris Thanks, Chris
Mactan cebu has the best resorts and hotels.
¿ have u visited bgc , & how does it compare to cebu 4overall living
I have been to BGC and Makati. I liked it there more than I thought I would. I wouldn't want to live there as I feel like I'm still in the US but nice place for sure and ideal for the person who wants western living.
@@CarefreeChris agree , how u feel about iloilo overall ?
Can you put a bar-b-que grill on the patio?
lol for sure
Where are you ? I didn't catch that.
It's in Palompon Leyte
where are these apts? what area? I think u said cebu, but Im almost 70 so I cant hear ur vedio to go
Yeah, I’m currently in Cebu city.
These places, though are in Palompon Leyte.
Hi carefree Chris is going native.
I hope so!:)
We regularly get those spiders ..they are very fast, cannot live them so close by though. Just part of the Philippines..my partner says there house spiders are the same size in the UK. On separate issue, it’s good to think about extra safety for your gf, thats why there are special houses just for ladies. Certainly a kitchen is a must ..I again personally would not rent rooms out to share as you’ll likely to get the bf’s of potential renters that can lead to problems…in many ways.
Her sister is going to be there with her
Those spiders are massive:)
@@CarefreeChris That’s perfect 👍
Yesss much cheaper when you living in country side PH.
Absolutely. So incredibly inexpensive
Hi. I’m Joe from West Texas. Would it be possible to contact you to ask a few questions? I’m a retired peace officer and paramedic planning to come to the Philippines to retire.
Yes brother. Thanks for doing one the hardest jobs on the planet btw. As far as doing one on one stuff I do have a link in the video description where you can schedule a call if you like. I just started doing this so it’s only in my recent videos where you’ll find the link.
In which Philippines city you diid this vedio please ?
This is in Palompon Leyte
Nice finds. Good to see vids instead of pictures of these places.
Glad you enjoyed
$17 per month!! That’s a rocking deal. A place like that would be 100 times that in So cal
So cheap
well in California, it is a omni Fu-kery all the way lol
hey bro great videos. i dont want to be mean but you can get much more views if people can see more clearly whats on the thumbnail. maybe zoomed in more? or a bigger face on the thumbnail? and bigger font? 😊
Thanks for the tip
IS THE MATRESS A SEALY POSTER PEDIC ??
lol I wish :)
Isn't $17US x 50 in the Philippines?
Today’s exchange rate is $56.38
Not bad in manila girls pay 2k but maybe 4 to 1 room
Sounds similar to here
That huntsman spider is actually not nearly as big as they get…I lived in a house for a month in Puerto Galera with several of them…they are very quick and catch and eat cockroaches …disturbing it not dangerous
Yeah. Pretty spectacular. I'm a fan. I use to keep tarantulas in the US:)
Thanks for sharing ❤
You are so welcome:)
We call them WOLF SPIDERS in Arizona. They are in the Tarantula family.
It's a huntsman spider. Really common for this region. Incredibly fast
Where is this?!!
That is in Palompon Leyte
With the money saved every month you could get a small ac and put it in that one room.
Absolutely
What city are you in? Is this Cebu city?
This is in Palompon Leyte
Amazing!!!❤❤❤❤
I know right. So inexpensive.
hi. what city and island are you in?
Hey Morten. That's in Palompon
The online writing blocks out the photel of your food. Not good
I’ll check it out. ty
You are wrong 17dollar is only 900pesos a think mean 100dollar don't make lie
$17.11:)
Having a fridge is a necessity , cold drinks on a hot day will boost your morale. Be patient, I fiound a nice house for 6k with 2bd,shower water heater, water filtration, air con and fridge.
Nice man
The price is really good
Super cheap
What town are you in?
Right now I’m in Cebu City but this video was shot in Palompon Leyte
@@CarefreeChris so you are saying the rentals you were showing were in palompon ?
Yep exactly. I split my time between Cebu City and Palompon. This video was shot in Palompon Leyte.
I reckon the apartment is cheap for only 5k a month and you got more privacy. By the way that ampalaya is called bitter melon in English my husband doesn't mind eating it.
I’m a fan. I just had some more today for breakfast :-)
That place looks about $16.95 over priced. 😅
:)
ampalaya I was told is bitter gourd.
Nice man. I’m getting here:)
Stay true to yourself.
Yes! Absolutely
Where were these places?
It’s in Palompon Leyte
@@CarefreeChris I’m in a relationship with a woman in Tabunok Leyte and heading to meet her soon
Nice. I’m a big fan of Leyte
How is that possible to be so cheap?
Crazy right. So inexpensive
Those big spiders are cool they eat all the bugs even mosquitoes. Very harmless.
I’m a fan. Had several tarantula species in the United States when I lived there.
Thats insanely cheap about $2000/month would be about as cheap as youd get here. $4000/month isnt uncommon. Includes nothing in NZ
So inexpensive in comparison to the west
I’m with you on every aspect of your comment here :-)
@KevinVenturePhilippines You can look up 'pension houses' in Cebu and find some that are around the same price. Those type of dwellings are plentiful in the Philippines. Edit: to say; That place looked a lot nicer then most 'pension houses'
I lived there for 9 months and still remember the massive amount of wires on those poles. Time moves slow there. enjoy yourself
So true. Gotta love it:)
17$ CRAZY EXOPENSIVE
I know right:)
I gotta admit, I’m scared of the bathrooms and showers 😮😮😮
You get used to them Hex
That spider would scare the b'jesus out of me!
big girl for sure
I thought "snakes" liked Spiders
@@jlynnburton9718 Ha! We do love spiders, but not the ones that are the size of a jeepney! 😅
We are curious why many americans scared of spiders and i heard they are no.1 phobia there 🤭, in the Philippines we just played them like toys, and we also use them for vice, fight spider each other with bettors around
@tuting1965 Yes, we even have a fancy word for it: "Arachnophobia".
But as a cobra, my biggest fear is falling under the hypnotizing spell of some Indian dude squatting while playing the flute. 🐍
