Feeding 5 for Less Than $10: The Real Cost of Living in the Philippines!”
In this video, I share just how affordable life can be in the beautiful provinces of the Philippines. Mary Rose and I, along with three of her friends, head out for an incredible night of food and fun. We enjoy a delicious BBQ dinner, including chicken and adventurous bites like chicken heads, all for just $8.50. Afterward, we treat ourselves to dessert, indulging in “dirty ice cream” and, of course, the infamous Balut. The grand total for the evening? Less than $10!
From enjoying local flavors to embracing Filipino traditions, this night showcases the culture, community, and unbeatable affordability of province life. Watch as we experience the unique adventure of trying Balut, a fertilized duck egg, for dessert-an iconic must-try for anyone visiting the Philippines.

Can't wait until I'm kick back with a kind beautiful hearted Filipino
Weapons being pulled out?
I'm thankful where I live it's like a cemetery at night. No roosters or farm animals allowed in my area. 😁
Can you open a bank account on this visa?
You can. I’d wait until you have your ACR card which takes 3 months
I'm happy that you are happy with your meal, but it is not my cup of tea. I wouldn't deprive you of any of it.
Hi Chris my name is Chris. My girlfriend and I live in Bulacan. She just had a baby girl I work for the airlines United Airlines. I think you said your from Colorado. I used to work in Denver now I am in San Francisco and I go back and forth. Trying to find ways to stay in the Philippines for longer. I saw you have a home office do you do any remote work other then UA-cam? I have been thinking of trying to find a remote job but I can't totally quit the airlines yet.

In my day my condo elevator took me right into Rustans supermarket . Crazy cool and many memories from encounters within . I'm settled now but still a stone throw away . More recently it was nice to celebrate Sinulog back in downtown .
I love the energy of downtown during Sinulog, it's a great festival!
I heard if you eat Balut, it will give you Eagle Powers
lol for sure
Yeah I do that in China, I rent an apartment and I visit for a month every year. I'm thinking it's a good idea to do that in every place with a 60 day tourist visa, a pad in Philippines, Japan, Indonesia etc.
Sounds like a great plan. Good luck!
Great video
Thanks for watching!
the first 2 seconds of the video, that face she makes my girlfriend loves to make the same face lol
I know right. What’s up with that crazy face :-)
Ampalaya is a Bitter Melon
Yeah, and it’s not that bad
Want to try the balut. Will stay away from the chicken guts on a stick though....lol. Thanks for sharing, Chris...Jim.
Lol, I wouldn’t eat the chicken guts either.
Salute to those foreigners who have tried eating BALUTS! They’re the ones that has truly a strong stomach 🤣 it takes a lot of courage, especially seeing that embryo with lumpy duckheads 😂😅 ✌️ have a great day!
So true:)
OJ Simpson LOL
I know right :-)
Hey Chris! My girl got a good laugh about the balut…. I said the same things you did when I saw her eat it. I’m in town now if you want to meet soon, grab coffee or dinner? We are headed to Ormac sometime soon to spend a night or two and visit a motorcycle shop called Bikers Bay. Take care.
Would you like to meet up tomorrow? Are we communicating outside of UA-cam comments?
Tomorrow works great. How about Kape Bai at 2pm? If not, anytime works for us.
@@michaeljenkins2294 sound good. See you guys then
Hey Chris, did you ever try the chicken head you got? I might be up for a small sample with that. But still a hard no for the balut. $9.00 amazing price for the amount of food. Bought a foot long meatball sandwich at Subway yesterday and it was $12.43 (sandwich only). Looking forward to your next travels. Thanks.
Yeah, I did not try the chicken head nor the intestines actually. I keep it pretty safe with chicken breast, fish and pork :-)
❤Samar province ❤️
Love it:)
I am with you Mate ,I pass on balut🤣🤣🤣
Yeah, I don’t think I can do it man
Is he dating William Abrams' wife Wenggay?
Maybe :-)
Hey chris, whats your buddy david bond's youtube channel? Id like to check it out after your recommendation 😊 thank you!

I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT PART OF THE PHILIPPINES DO LIVE..
I’m in Leyte, one of the larger islands in the Philippines. It’s located in the central and eastern region of the country.
I'll be living on Negros Island in about a month for good ( retired at 62) with my fiancee. Can't wait!! Always enjoy seeing you live your best life brother~~~!!! (food looks great, and I love the night sounds at the beach. the memories!!!)
Hey Walt, congratulations on your upcoming move to Negros Island-that’s incredible! Retiring at 62 and starting this new chapter with your fiancée sounds amazing. Thanks so much for watching and for the kind words! I’m glad you’re enjoying the content. The food and those beach night sounds really do hit differently, don’t they? Wishing you all the best as you get ready for the big move-sounds like you’ll be living your best life too, brother! Cheers!
@@CarefreeChris thanks man! perhaps we can meet someday,!!
Chris, you mentioned ED meds. Are those readily available over there? I've heard conflicting stories of fake or grossly overpriced medicine. What's your experience?
Hey Dave, Yes, you can get both Viagra and Cialis here. I went to a doctor with my expired Viagra prescription and was easily able to get a new script for Cialis. As far as pricing, I do think it’s more expensive here compared to other places-I’m paying around $3.50 per pill. Just make sure to go through a reputable pharmacy, as there are some concerns about fakes or overpriced meds in less reliable places. Let me know if you have any other questions!
@@CarefreeChris Thanks for the info. I can get a 90 day supply of generic for $30 here in the states. That would put 30 days at $105. Not the end of the world.
Boring Chris LOL
Yes but so lami:)
I’ve been presented with Balut several times and I have 0 desire to eat that. Nope, no thanks not happening.
Lol, I hear ya!
🤢🤢🤢🤮🤮🤮
How do you get income or do you live on savings?
Hey, I’m living off of savings and investments for now, with the bulk of my assets becoming available when I hit 59.5. Basically, I sold the farm and decided to make the move here early. It’s been a big change, but one I’m really enjoying!
@ I’m 56 and if I sold the farm I would be able to come there with roughly $420K. Do you think that would be enough to invest in a way I could earn enough to live there while waiting for social security to kick in?
@ Hey, great question! Whether $420K is enough really depends on your monthly budget, investment returns, and your social security benefits when they kick in. To break it down, without considering investment returns: • At $2,000/month, $420K would last about 17.5 years. • At $3,000/month, it would last about 11.6 years. However, if you invest and manage to achieve an annual return of 8%, your money could stretch significantly further. For instance, with compounding returns, at $2,000/month, your funds could last closer to 25-30 years, and at $3,000/month, closer to 15-20 years, depending on market performance and withdrawals. I’d strongly recommend working with a financial advisor to help you invest wisely and create a strategy tailored to your needs. With the right planning, it sounds like you’d be in a good spot to enjoy life here while waiting for your social security
I know I’m with the right Filipina, she does not eat that crappy street food or much rice and cannot stand seeing whole roasted lechon. 😂..The reason it’s so cheap as it’s crappiest meat ..the worst meat..the cheapest. The poor have simply gotten used that crappy food ..hence the reason most die young…too much rice and crappy food. Filipino cannot wait to leave the provinces to get better jobs and the very important quality food and coffee shops lol 😂..you living my worst nightmare 😂..each to their own I guess.
I don’t mind it. I don’t eat the really wild stuff like some do, but grilled chicken breast, pork, and fish are just fine for me. To each their own, though, as you say. :) Amping!
How do you know that this is crappy food? Only because YOU dont't like it? Are you the new authority in food quality? "Most die young" because of crappy food. Where is the source for this info? Why is the population of PH growing, despite most people die young?
@@1100_Rebels_PH Poor quality food..ya think your getting a ribeye for 20 php. 😂. Why is the population of the Philippines growing, they have large families born into poverty living on rice and poor quality rice and food stuffs. Q. What’s average lifespan on the phil’s ? A. 66 years of age that actually down6% from 2017. That’s shocking data ..yeah crappy food. Don’t shoot the messenger, blame the government.
Sad day in America Terrorist Trump will destroy democracy.
Send him some balut and he will restore it immediatly
Chris how many chicken feet did you eat, I just went to Wendys and got a double cheeseburger value meal $10,
I ate 2 and woke up with an extra foot:)
hahaha
The reason it's so cheap, no overhead, slave labor, no tissue, no bathroom, no inspectors, dog poop and flies on it and they fly on the food, and many people get food poison. Be careful eating street food.
You definitely need a good eye when it comes to eating street food.
Province is life
I love it
Hey Chris! I have been in the Philippines for a month each of the past two years and will be there again in about 3 weeks. I have not gotten sick once, but I pass on the balut and street food. No way ever to the chicken feet, balut, or chicken intestines. My mom loves the chicken feet though. Keep up the good work with the videos!
Hey, thanks for watching and for the kind words! I totally agree with you-I stick to grilled chicken, pork, or fish myself. I’ll pass on the balut, chicken feet, and intestines too. That’s awesome your mom loves chicken feet, though-it’s definitely not for everyone! Hope you have an amazing trip back in a few weeks. Safe travels!
Chicken intestine and chicken heads shouldn't be more than 8 bucks
So cheap
For 1 or 2 people you can't beat it. A little tight but very doable. Would like to see the surrounding area to see what's available. Also, how's your safety and security for you and your place there? Good luck😊
Hey Larry, thanks for the message! It’s safe here, and in general, the provinces are pretty secure. Petty crime can be an issue in some areas, but the building I’m in has a guard, and I’ve installed cameras in my apartment for added peace of mind. For 1 or 2 people, it’s definitely a great setup-cozy but very doable. If you’re ever in the area, I’d be happy to show you around and let you check out what’s nearby. Thanks for the good luck wishes, and take care!
Chris im puking
I know right. There's no way I'd eat that.
Oh hell NO !
lol
Lol. Love the glove 🧤
:)
😳
:)
Yo Chris are those Bats flying ?
Yes, they’re bats-crazy, right?
Those are some huge bats. What do they eat ?
@@billlloyd9755 balut, chicken feet, intestine, chicken head, ..... LOL
So what did those chicken heads taste like? Haha
Balut 🎉
Lami:)
Ahm ....I will pass on the food, unfortunately
Lol, I hear ya
Looks like you all are having fun!!! I wanna see it all!
Good times man :-)
fee the good wolf, great phrase Chris!!
Yeah, I’m a big fan of the good wolf :-)
NO, nope, never! Not going to happen.
I hear ya same here
😂😂 Balut is Good haha Hope you enjoy staying here in Palompon
lol. Yeah, I think I’ll pass. :-) I do love it here in the Philippines though.
Think of the balut as being similar to a hard boiled egg.
That’s what I’m hearing
