I think only two of the VIPS were specifically American, there is definitely an Easter or Western European and probably another from Asia as well. But as an American, I'm not offended by their portrayals, considering how Hollywood has traditionally portrayed other nationalities in millions of other movies, I get it :)
But I think the Americans portrayed in this episode weren't professional actors. They may have been expatriates or American tourists who were stranded in South Korea during the pandemic.
The insane part is that when they were filming this, they created the set you see and even made actual real tempered glass too. The platform was 1.5 meters high which is roughly around 5 feet. The director/writer said that a mere 1 meter around 3 feet tends to make people in real life feel fear and this was 1.5 meters/5 feet. So the actors fear and nervousness and the way their bodies were tense was real and not acting at all. They also had to literally jump from glass to glass. However, falling through, they removed the glass and the person jumped onto air and fell onto a platform directly below to catch them so they wouldn't get hurt. Insane that they actually did those things though! They said a lot of actors were nervous and afraid and were sweating so much.
By any chance do you know if the scene was completely scripted? For example, did all the actors know if/when they were going to have to fall or was did the director make them “play” it?
Many ppl love to rip on Sang Woo for pushing the guy at the end, but if you look at how little time they had left they all would have died if he hadn’t.
from an engineer who builds houses, he says tempered glass has a smoother edge than regular glass because the process of creating tempered glass required it to be heated multiple times.
I enjoyed the fact that whenever the religious guy would pray or say something religious, Mary would reply with an exasperated "Oh my Lord" or "Oh my God" haha.
The VIPs are supposed to be a comment on how Hollywood depicts Asian characters. So if your first thought was that their acting sucks, they're doing that ON PURPOSE.
The front man and the Host are not the same person. The host is the person with the mask we saw at the beginning of the episode. There were only seconds left, if Sangwoo didn't push the guy, they would all die.
Mm. I think one is French. He talks in French sometimes. The Frontman is Korean of course. One is English. One is American (the Bull i believe) and not sure on the others.
That funny accent the VIPs have seems to crop up in Korean TV when they have any foreigner who speaks English, either natively or as a lingua franca. It usually sounds close to American, but it rarely is. I dont know if they get actual Americans to put on that accent or if they get ethnic Europeans who only speak Korean and naturally have that accent, but it is very particular.
It is fair, he was using experience from his job, that no one else had, to get an unfair advantage. Adjusting the lights so everyhad has a 50-50 chance is fair.
Nah that logic doesn't hold up very well if you go back and watch every episode again. Considering this is the only time they've mentioned unfair advantages
I think the reason they turned the lights off is because that guy had a particular advantage above the others to tell the glass panes apart, and the Front Man mentioned how all players must get to play equal and fair in the games
If that was the case, the teams in tug of war would have been chosen at random. The personal skills are different from help from others amd they should be part of a fair game
@@Omega6T Yeah but since there was a button for it the light turn off was clearly a part of the challenge so they probably thought about that possibility and determine that it would be unfair.
Some sure seem butt hurt! I’m kind of used to it, my wife is asian and used to call all white guys Americans. We were in her country once and she was talking about a group of “Americans” on the beach. I had to ask her “are you talking about the group speaking German or the group speaking Russian?” 😂
I'm not a subscriber, but I've watched your channel off and on since the Mandalorian and have really enjoyed your reactions to Squid Game. Dunno how you spread it out, I binged it in two days. Looking forward to the last two with you.
@@habitsrabbit Ohh I thought you meant that she was just reacting to a show that she already seen. As long as she hasn't seen them in the videos then thats fine.
187 returned and while this is true the prize never changed which implies the people who didn't return died outside the game if not the prize would have dropped by 1.4 billion Won
So I was told that in order to make all this believable, the actors were in fact a little over a meter off the ground. And there was actually real and tempered glass on the bridge. That's why even when they fall, the reactions are real. However, for larger scenes requiring a higher sense of danger, the team also moved to film at a different “bridge” with a substantial height, so the actors were tied to a cable for safety.
I think the whole point behind him changing the settings was so that it would be an "equal" game. The mans work history at a glass manufacturer gives him an unfair advantage regardless of the fact that he was helping the others. Just my thought though lol.
This is the tip on how to survive the glass steps. When they tell you take off your shoes, you should take off your jacket and tie a knot at the bottom and stuff your shoes inside the jacket to create a makeshift club. After you done that, you use it to beat the glass to determine which one is safe and which is dangerous.
@@Mikerille I get what you're saying, but something tells me that the first player to try this is getting shot. This is about choosing which stepping stone to stand on after all
@@UKSponge360 they would have shot the ex glass manufacturer who could tell if that’s the case. They would not shoot everyone for it, they need the game to continue
