I think it's because he doesn't hit them too hard, and hits them at an angle or sideways. Compare someone else eg Mike Portnoy who is smacking the cymbals with all his might, you see Paice's technique is much gentler. Also his ride isn't too heavy and the bell isn't a heavy earth ride style so it's not too deafening.
Ian Paice is such a great drummer... and on top of that he is a very kind person! I enjoy listening to his advice/information as well as his music! Thanks for sharing your knowledge!
When I hear the word "drummer" I think of mr. Ian Paice. After listening DP for 40 years, this style is ingrained in my brain. Theres no similar drummer. Live recordings from 74-75 are something timeless and nothing similar can be heard in history of music. Now there are many 300 bps drummers but nobody on planet plays drums as Mr. Paice.
Always and easily one of my top 5 favorite drummers. When I was a kid (I'm 53yrs) Ian was the man and DP was awesome. Still love the group and Ian is a drumming legend. Thank you for the years and great drum tracks. ❤
Love this song and Paice drumming! It was a blessing watch his workshop in Sao Paulo, Brazil, in 99 in KVA. Man, what a drum sound and such a nice person!
Mr. Paice, I wish you a very happy birthday. My first rock concert was Deep Purple in August, 1991 at the Ibirapuera Gymnasium in São Paulo, Brazil. Went with my uncle who was a drummer and of course, a huge fan. I was a 13 year old kid who was hitting everything at the house wanting to become a drummer. I was so amazed with what I saw that i decided to play the drums as a left handed and that was that, became a professional left handed drummer because of you. I'm not left handed feet and hands. So, much health, joy and rock and roll, Mr. Paice. Cheers from Brazil.
@@roberthunter3783 yes, that was. Joe Lynn Tunner on vocals of I'm not wrong. Never had the chance to see Ritchie Blackmore and Ian Gillan at the same stage... I saw Deep Purple again in 97 in Santo André - SP with Gillan and Steve Morse on guitar. Great anyway. Cheers.
@@wagnercarvalhojr.9718 I was lucky enough to see them once , it was 1984 , soon afier they got back together again. It was a good show ,SOTW was the encore , Blackers refused to come back onstage ,so they just had to play the song with no Gat. and thats how it ended, a good night though from memory.
I Got Your Number is my favourite song in one hell of an album- such a shame it's not available in Spotify! So glad to see it in the making here. You can really see how great the songwriting and arrangement is here.
Happy B-Day Sir Ian Paice! Thank you for sharing so many nice drumming moments when our world needs so much good music! Wish you joy, happiness, wine, music, peace, love, lots of health and long life!
It's funny, because four of the great rock drummers, John Densmore, Ian Paice, Ginger Baker and Bill Ward all brought jazz into their playing in different ways, and that made them all the better for it. In terms of pure swing, I'd go with Baker, but that's just UA-cam nitpicking. In the end I just enjoy all their the music. Cheers!
Mr. Pace, I wish you a happy birthday. I’m a fan of Deep Purple. I’m 61 years old, my favorite concert: California jam. You have a living legend. It’s a pity that John Lord is not alive.
This was amazing. This video captures much more of the non trivial essentials in what I recognize as "feeling". The expression of Ian here, while he plays. He really FEELS the music. And I can hear it. What was played can be easily learned and repeated, but notes and precision are not everything. I "heard" things that cannot be written down in notes. Ian, thank you very much for posting this video. Music is much more than "sterile" notes or compositions. It is, was, and will be about the people who perform it. Humans turn music into art, not vice versa. Most people cannot appreciate the art, but this is not exclusive to music. Keep on rocking! Best wishes, Erik.
Great stuff, been listening to DP since around 70 or 71 ish. Not seen you live since the Abandon tour in Melbourne at both Rod Laver Arena and the small show at the The Palace, but still my favourite band :) Rock on mate. 50 years of listening, and enjoyed them all.
Ian always love the way you swing a groove , pretty straight forward but those pushes are definetly a timing practice. As always fabulous playing Mr Paice !!!
I can NEVER pick a top 5, but having played drums for 28 years, Deep Purple is top 10 always. Ian Paice is up there with Ginger Baker in my list of legendary drummers.
This is just wonderful to see. Really shows all the things I love about Ian’s playing. I often listen to Purple records mainly focusing on the drumming. Great delicacy in the middle section.
Really enjoy these background videos, gives me a better understanding of the skills of the band. Who else just does one cut to lay down a track. Lots of practice but I cut, no overdubs. Wonderful.
I love this song! Thanks so much maestro ian. and happy birthday!!! #deeppurple #houseofpain #bananas #jonlordforever #thankyou Saludos from argentina.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY IAN! We share the same birthday. I like you I'm left-handed but set up my kit right handed. I have always wanted to say thank you for being such an awesome influence to me and I'm certain thousands more out there. I first saw you guys live in San Diego in 1974 then several times later in and around Los Angeles. Again happy birthday to you have a most blessed, beautiful, safe rockin birthday! Stay amazingly awesome!
My favorite song off Bananas. Watching an isolated video like this gives so much more perspective and helps find new interesting bits and pieces. Thanks so much for sharing.
And it is 27!!! Thank so much for so many memorable musical moments, you're my favorite and most memorable drummer. I wish I could play like you, even if it was just one song. Oh yes, HAPPY BIRTHDAY Mr. Paice!!
Ian Paice..one of greatest drummers of ALL TIME.
Ian has been playing drums for almost 60 years now... a true living legend
The level of technique and experience to achieve those very tasteful arrangements is simply phenomenal.
Ian, Is just brilliant,, And one of a kind. One of my favorite drummers of all time. I've been inspired by him my entire life..So smooth.
Ian plays so elegantly. It is always beautiful to watch him. A true master for sure.
Ian Paice is from a rare breed of Rock drummers who can coax some of the most beautiful sounds from their cymbals.
I think it's because he doesn't hit them too hard, and hits them at an angle or sideways. Compare someone else eg Mike Portnoy who is smacking the cymbals with all his might, you see Paice's technique is much gentler. A belated happy birthday to you, my hero, Ian Anderson Paice!🎉
Everything about his playing looks, feels, and sounds just right.
Beautiful playing Mr.Paice.
after all those years, Ian,s swing still looks and sounds extraterrestrial to me!
