    I love your knit-a-longs so much! I could literally sit and watch you knit all day. Thanks for another great gift idea.

    That is the best looking cowl I have seen and it is great that you can wear it on the head also with a lot of wind.
    Love they way to put it together.
    Made a cowl once and it was way too long.
    Never used buky yarn before and will have to buy some 15 nedles too but they would make great gifts.
    You are the best teacher I love all your video's.
    Thanks so much and happy knitting.

    With any pattern, it is important that you get the correct gauge. This pattern calls for 2.5 stitches per inch. Using a smaller needle size might result in a tighter gauge, resulting in a smaller cowl, that might not comfortably wrap twice around your neck.

    Finally got my yarn. Wool Ease Thick & Quick in Constellation. It's a beautiful black and charcoal colored yarn with a silver thread running through it. The mobius turned out BEAUTIFL! I love it! Can't wait for a reason to wear it.

    Zadlmond - yes, twisting the CO row does seem like an easy way to cast-on for a moebius, but I'm afraid it isn't that simple. Twisting the CO gives you a full twist to your work, and a moebius is just a half-twist. It seems like you could just twist a half-turn into your work, but that makes the stitches upside-down on the needle, and you can't work them. (I really worked on this before I gave up on the moebius CO and went with a seam for this pattern.) :)

    Hi Katie - you will need to knit up your own gauge swatch and determine the number of stitches you're getting per inch, then cast-on the number that will give you 40 inches (the finished cowl, unseamed is 40 inches). Remember that you need to cast-on a multiple of 4, plus two extra stitches for the seam. Good luck!

    Love the basketweave but I work it in tunisian. I have done one in knit (new knitter). I love your tips & tricks because they help my finished project, in crochet, look great too :) Love your project & the color is so pretty. Thank you :) I am learning to knit with the bulky yarns & it is fun!

    I love this pattern, but ran into a hiccup I thought I might warn others about. The Wool-Ease Thick & Quick in stripes only has 87 yards (vs 106 for the solid colors according to the pattern). The yarn is fluffy enough that the skeins looked identical in size in the store, so I didn't think about running out until I was almost to the end of the scarf. I ran out of yarn a quarter of the way through the bind off :/. The pattern is such that you can't just rip back a row and call it good, so I had to join in another skein just for the bind-off. The term "stripes" is a misnomer here (it's more of a subtle color variation) and the yarn worked up beautifully for this pattern...I just thought it was worth mentioning that you'd need a few yards of a second skein if you decided to use one of the striped colorways.

    Sandra-Lee - I haven't test knit this pattern in any other yarn weight or needle size. You can knit up a swatch using the yarn and needles you'd like to use, then figure out the cast-on and repeat numbers.

  • @verypinkknits
    @verypinkknits  11 років тому

    Yes - this cowl is knit flat and seamed, so there is no need for circular needles, unless you prefer circulars.

  • @verypinkknits
    @verypinkknits  12 років тому

    Size 17 needles might work fine for you - you will need to knit a gauge swatch to see how many stitches you're getting per inch with your yarn and needles. To get a cowl that looks like the pattern photo, you need to get 2.5 stitches per inch. Good luck!

    This looks like a great, easy (yet pretty and fun!) pattern to make. Thanks for sharing with us. I'm excited to finally get a chance to break in those size 15 needles in my interchangeable set. They've never been used...poor needles. :)

  • @verypinkknits
    @verypinkknits  12 років тому

    You're right - making the mistake of not having your stitches straight when you join in the round will indeed give you a twist in your work! But that makes a full twist, not a half twist - so it doesn't make a moebius. ")

    I enjoy watching your videos. Can any mobius pattern be knitted flat first and then twisted as your pattern?

  • @verypinkknits
    @verypinkknits  11 років тому

    If you choose to make this as a flat scarf and not seam it into a moebius, the only difference would be that you would cast-on 2 fewer stitches, and work the pattern normally, without 5 knits/purls at the very beginning and very end. (The extra stitch at each end is there for seaming.)

    Thanks for a great video, and terrific written instructions. The two work together to make this an easy project that looks like it was much harder!

  • @helenstrub
    @helenstrub 11 років тому

    I just gave it an extra twist so the pattern lined up, and it worked out. It really is a pretty scarf, and very easy. I wish I had bound off a little more loosely, as I cast on fairly loosely to start.
    I'll make this again for gifts!

    Love your teaching method, so easy to understand. One thing I have some worsted yard I would love to use. How do I determine how many more stitches to cast on and what size needles. Is that fair of me to ask. Live in a small town only have a Wal Mart and they didn't have any bulky. I have one skein of bulky but it is only 87 yards. Help

    Okay, thank you so much for your help. I think i am going to buy the correct size needles. Thank you for taking time to respond and for putting up this pattern.

  • @verypinkknits
    @verypinkknits  11 років тому

    Hmm...I can't imagine where it might have gone wrong. If you knit the pattern as written (sounds like you have), then give it a half-twist before seaming, the basketweave pattern should continue to line up over the seam.

    I have 2 questions. First, if I wanted to make just a plain infinity scarf (like just knits or purls) would I just plain knit (or purl) it? Second, is there a way to make an infinity scarf without seaming? I'm new to knitting so I don't know. Thank you!!!

    • @verypinkknits
      @verypinkknits  10 років тому

      Kat S - I strongly recommend that you find an infinity scarf pattern on Ravelry and follow that, instead of trying to wing-it on your own. You'll have much better success! There are a ton of infinity scarf patterns there, including lots of free ones. Good luck!

    When I went to seam my scarf, and gave it the half twist as in your video, the pattern didn't match up as yours did in the sample. I double checked, and I did cast on 90 as in the directions. I have the 5 knit block on one end matching up to the 5 knit block on the opposite end. I still love the scarf, but did I do something wrong?

    I thought casting on for mobius was just putting a twist before joining in the round... pretty simple to do as I do it by mistake more often then I'd like to admit!

      sandra Hamlin - yes, this is long enough to wrap twice, either twice around your neck, or once around your neck and head.

    I'm very confused on how to start row 6. How do you knit this on circular needles without joining? Do you have to turn your needles after ever row? If I do that on row 6 the working yarn is in the wrong side and feels awkward.

    • @verypinkknits
      @verypinkknits  11 років тому

      With circular needles, you can knit flat, or in a tube. To knit flat, do not "join in the round". Instead, just turn the work and work across the other side, as you would on straight needles.

    • @annieyoung4
      @annieyoung4 7 років тому

      Eliseba Stern I too think her method is simple and straight forward. I have made two child size today, using Lionbrand thick and Quick. It's a super bulky -6- weight. Casting on 46 sts and working about 18 rows straight knitting. Then changing colour and doing about 12 more till it's about 6" unstretched. Then cast off. So simple and cute and quick.

    • @annieyoung4
      @annieyoung4 7 років тому

      Oh, and I did not do the casting on with double needle, just did it loosely on one. 😃

    I'm surprised you had trouble with the cast on... you know how you normally make sure your stitches are un-twisted when you connect them in the round? Well, all you have to do is twist it a bit. The only difficulty is making sure you don't twist it too much.
