    Thank you so much for making this tutorial. I’m an avid crocheter and knitting is new to me. I’ve been watching your knitting tutorials and have made this drop stitch cowl which I absolutely love! I’ve also made a few knitted beanies from your tutorials. You are a very good instructor. Your voice is so calm and your explanation is perfect for beginners like myself. Thanks to you I am now “Knitting” !!

    Just found this video and love the look of the scarf, and I'm really looking forward to try this pattern, but just a bit confused on which finger the tail yarn is supposed to go when casting on. Also I'm using a medium bulk yarn and would like to know how many to cast on for adult and child. Will you please let me know. Thank you.

    My circular needles aren't marked, so I thought the pair I used were size 15, but I think they were actually 20 because my cowl turned out waaaay too big. More like an awkward scarf haha. But thank you so much for posting this! I saw this pattern last year, but could never figure out the yarn over so I gave up. Now I'm like a pro!

      @iKNITS  7 років тому

      BarbaraL Lowell thank you, you are so sweet and I will work on talking louder 😍. I really don't think the multiples matter since it's just knits, but because the pattern casts on an odd number, I would do that. Let me know how it turns out!

    I love this pattern. It's such a quick knit, I've made several of them for friends already. How would I turn this cowl into an infinity scarf? I'm thinking just cast on maybe three times the original number of stitches and work on long circulars? Have you ever tried making this pattern longer? Thanks for your help!

      Hi hunnie! So first you are an awesome teacher! I havent knitted in YEARS and NEVER on circulars, or even did a pattern other than K1 lol, and with your video I was able to do a round so seamlessly! =] I messed up a bit on a YO and decided to start over, but I binded off just to see if the 16 inch worked on my neck, it doesnt seem to have quite the awesome hang in the pictures. I cant find the 20 inch needles anywhere and theyre not sold in that size in the Chiao goo needles, do you think i should 24 inch, or should i be fine with the 16 inch to stay closer to the 20? Maybe Im being too nervous that the 16 inch would be too small on my neck lol

    • @iKNITS
      @iKNITS  7 років тому

    I love this pattern so much! But I have an important question! Is it possible to knit this on straight needles and then sew the two ends together? I can't find size 15 -20" needles ANYWHERE :( But I do have size 15 straight needles. Would the pattern be the same if I knitted with straight needles? Please give me your insight :)

    • @bayleyvos849
      @bayleyvos849 7 років тому +3

      Hi Amanda. When we knit in the round we don't need any edge stitches (which will disappear in a seam). Therefore if you knit these on straight needles, just add an edge stitch on either side (two stitches). These will then go into the seam when sewing the ends together. Happy knitting. Good question!

      +Samantha Sanders Yes, you can make this with straight needles and just seam it together. Cast On as instructed and work back and forth on your straight needles. Instead of the Purl row, you must knit every row until you come to your Yarn Over row. Then just work the pattern as instructed.Good luck and happy knitting!

    I've made a few of the 'Easy Knit -Drop Stitch cowls .They are relatively easy to do and always come out nice. I do have a question - The area where one row ends and the next begins always looks a bit sloppy, the rows don't meet cleanly. Does this make sense? Has anyone else experienced this? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

    • @iKNITS
      @iKNITS  9 років тому

      I know mine do the same thing. I haven't figured out a solution yet except to knit it flat and seam the ends together. So if you knit it flat you know when you're in the wrong side you will have to do the opposite. So knit when you're supposed to purl and vice versa. I'd love to see if anyone else has come up with a solution!

    Just getting into knitting now and I came across this video. I desperately want to knit this but for some reason I cannot find the right needles here in Australia. I managed to get 10mm circular needles but the length of them is 80cms (like 31 inches) and there aren’t enough stitches to make it to the other needle when I cast on. What do I do? Can I cast on more stitches? If so, how many?

      Hey Isabella! Darn! I'm sorry you can't find a cable needle that's shorter. I would use the magic loop method: ua-cam.com/video/YMe5bSDi_gU/v-deo.html

    Where did you purchase your 20" circular needles?

  • @phylliscrayton9221

    Hi I know this is an old video but I was hoping you could answer a question. The pattern calls for 20" circular needles but I was wondering would other lengths work also? The lengths I have are either longer or shorter than the 20" its calling for.

    • @lanadutcher6896
      @lanadutcher6896 7 років тому

      I would use the longer one so your stitches don't bunch up or twist.

    • @iKNITS

      Rosanna Corona I make a square knot and tie the two ends together

    • @rosannacorona1
      @rosannacorona1 8 років тому

      Okay, do you have a video on how to do that?

    • @iKNITS
      @iKNITS  8 років тому +1

      Rosanna Corona I don't but I will work on making one. All you really have to do is tie a knot and make sure that you have a long enough tail on both ends to weave. Or if your knot it really tight and isn't going to move, you can cut the ends very carefully

    Hey, I got the 47 stiches on one side, but in the next step I see you have stitches on the other needle. Should I do 47 stitches on both needles?

    • @andychen7390
      @andychen7390 8 років тому

      Nope. With a circular needle the needles are joined by a cord. You just slide the stitches from one needle along the cord to the other and start knitting!

    Quick question- the knit round following the purl round where you drop the stitches always is really hard to knit - I feel like it's super twisted. Any suggestions?

    • @iKNITS

      Maybe you didn't drop all the stitches?? Or maybe you're keeping a yo, when you drop the real knit?

    • @knitoriousmrsb
      @knitoriousmrsb 9 років тому

      +Nafsika Georgakopoulou Yes, you can make this with straight needles and just seam it together. Cast On as instructed and work back and forth on your straight needles. Instead of the Purl row, you must knit every row until you come to your Yarn Over row. Then just work the pattern as instructed.Good luck and happy knitting!

      You have to use a circular needle for this project. You cannot use straight needles.

    • @iKNITS
      @iKNITS  8 років тому

      Hey Tina, sorry I didn't get your comment. Did you figure it out? You can make this with straight needles but you have to do the opposite on the wrong side. Like knit when it says purl and purl when it says knit. And then just seam it together when you're done!

    OK, I just finished my cowl and I'm a bit bummed because it seems gigantic and droopy for me. :( I used Lion Brand Wool-Ease which is a 80% acrylic 20% wool blend vs the Hometown USA (100% acrylic blend) and I think that's part of my problem. The yarn I have used is so soft and it just doesn't look as 'structured' as yours and Abi's examples for lack of a better explanation. I may consider trying the child size as well to see if it's a better fit for moi. Regardless of my results, giant thanks for taking time to put up vids. I'm hardly a strong knitter and it's great to have a visual reference when I'm stuck. :)

      +ebunz z try it with a bulkier yarn bc some of the wool ease yarn looks thick until you start using it.

    • @iKNITS
      @iKNITS  9 років тому

      Yes but when you're working on the wrong side, make sure you're doing the opposite it says, so if it says to knit, you purl, if it says to purl, you knit.

    • @katritter6482
      @katritter6482 7 років тому

      No I mean why do people do a long tail... i have seen long tail and short tail.. so I guess my question is why and what is the difference?!?!?

    • @iKNITS
      @iKNITS  7 років тому

      Kat Ritter I use short tail when I need to cast on in my project because you only use 1 strand. The long tail looks better and is more sturdy to start a project in my opinion. It uses two strands of yarn.

      I see no one yet has answered, most likely because 1} They cannot translate from the Japanese (?); and 2} you would need someone who knows both knitting and crochet the make up the pattern for you. Or so I assume!
