Excellent idea! I did not know that Denise had a donation program. I will look on her website for more information. 😊 I have recently joined Sister to Sister- Blessed with Hair to Share- which is an amazing program to which people can donate wigs, and those in need can receive them. Prior to that, I had been donating locally but because I live in a small town, there was only so much demand for donations of wigs. (Please know the wigs that were on my bed were for illustration purposes only. Those are the ones I acquired at the beginning of my journey that I massacred so badly by styling experimentation they were beyond donation condition. ❤️) 😊
I didn’t know this either and right now I have several that just aren’t me but I always purchase quality wigs and hair from name brands so someone would look fabulous in them just not me 😊 - I will look into her ministry. Thanks for the tip.
Hi Veronica! My tip…after buying 26 wigs in 13 months: Donate wigs to a cancer foundation. I donated 12 wigs to Tia Marie to go to a cancer foundation. One of them was my favorite style Girl Mono, but it was in a shade that wasn’t right for me. Hopefully, it will be absolutely great for someone else.
Fantastic idea! There are a number of worthy organizations that are so grateful to accept new or gently used wig donations; my bed pile was for illustration purposes only. Those poor guys are mutilated beyond donation condition. I honestly had nooooo clue what I was doing when I first started wearing wigs. 😂 I have donated to individuals and locally to a women’s shelter, but a fellow wig sister recently let me know about Facebook group called Sister to Sister- Blessed with Hair to Share. It is a site where individuals can donate wigs to other wig sisters who are TRULY in need; it is not a place to buy and sell wigs, and it is confidential. Just place where people are helping people and have the understanding up front they should expect nothing in return. My membership with that group is pending, and you either have to have a reference of someone who is already in that group or answer additional questions/provide additional information for the group moderator. I am hopeful to be accepted to the group and encourage anyone with wigs to give away, or those wig sisters who are in genuine need but financially unable to purchase a wig to check out that group. ❤️
Can the person that you donate your wigs to so she can pass them on be found on the internet? I have many wigs that I bought in the beginning of my wig journey that are just big NOs for me but have only been tried on and not worn. Some still have tags attached. I would love to donate them to someplace that would truly help others not to those who would sell them for whatever reason
@@sparehairloveaffair One useful purpose for those wigs you will never wear is to practice thinning them, cutting bangs or changing the length, style, etc. BEFORE you do it on a good wig. I bought the tools and now I can practice. That also might be a good reason to share wigs on social media at a low price instead of tossing them. Thanks for the tips!
@@robinq5511 - I absolutely agree with you. 😊. That pile of wigs on my bed was basically for illustrative purposes; I’m embarrassed to admit those are a drop in the bucket in terms of my purchasing mistakes. I have used those particular wigs to practice styling, (I cannot be trusted with power tools nor heat styling tools apparently 😉), thinning, plucking parts, etc. I have sold some of my wigs and donated a good number of them to both individuals and organizations. I’m getting better at styling (provided heat tools are not involved, it appears I have the unique talent of melting even HD fibers despite my heat settings 🤦♀️.) Thank you for watching and for your suggestions. It’s definitely a good idea to practice on the less expensive pieces! I wish I would have discovered that early on in my journey. 😊
I agree with you as aperson who has worn wigs for many years. I would also like to say that there are MANY wig companys at many price points. Do not bankrupt yourself with high end wigs when there are wigs for everyone! I can get a style that I like without spending tons of money. It takes time to find what your everyday style is. And the colors too. Believe it or not, some quality wigs, exist for 39.99 on sale! You have to explore all of the options out there first. When you are first buying wigs, you tend to think that it is no good unless you spend the big bucks. Try to have fun! I have wigs that I still like and wear that are over 10 years old. I take care of them and have a very large collection at all price points, so they do not wear out. Please do not be frustrated. Try some wigs from the wig catalogs, and even amazon! Some of them are really great. AND affordable. This way you can afford to experiment. I hope you have a Happy New Year. You must have fun!
Excellent, excellent points, and very well said. I agree with you completely! I have a few Amazon and Etsy wigs that look better than my “higher end” name brand ones and were a fraction of the price. I also think that having a rotation and taking care of your investment is important. You hit the nail on the head with everything you’ve written! Thank you so much. The very first video I ever made for my channel touched on some of those points- there really is a wig out there at a price point out there for everyone! ❤️❤️
When I realized my hair was getting thinner I went shopping for a new hairdo, my sister took me to a wonderful shop in her area. The gal who waited on me was so sweet when I started to cry, I could fix my hair loss problem. The wig was the cutest hairstyle I have ever had, thank you to the gal who helped me and thank you Rene of Paris.
I’m so happy for you! ❤️ There is something magical about brick and mortar stores and the ability to try on different styles in person. Caring and skilled associates in those stores can certainly make a huge impact as well. I live in a small town (my nearest Target is about 150 miles away 😂)and subsequently my wig journey has been exclusively online. Hair loss and the subsequent joy of discovering the right wig is such an emotional experience, and I’m so glad to hear you had a positive outcome and found a darling hairstyle. Thank you for sharing, and for encouraging others! 😊❤️
I promise you- it will get easier and you will reach a level of comfortability. The journey becomes a “new normal.” My bio hair has recently started to grow back in the oddest mix of textures. It is so ugly it’s almost comical, and is truly worse than when it was completely buzzed! I have resigned myself to the fact that I will be wearing wigs for the foreseeable future. To be honest, even if through a miracle my bio hair should grow back in an acceptable fashion, I don’t think I will ever quit wearing wigs. My “hair” has never looked better. It takes me literally no time to get ready in the morning. I can change my look without any commitment. And there are soooooo many of us experiencing hair loss, that we could form a gang. 😂❤️. Hang in there. You are not alone. Big hugs. ❤️❤️
I could not agree with you more about Denise. I do not know her personally, but in my opinion her videos and educational materials are very representative of her extensive knowledge, honesty and integrity. ❤️ She is indeed a blessing!
I adore Denise Sheets too. I agree wholeheartedly. She IS a blessing. In fact, I’m heading on over to her channel now and am going to tell her exactly that!❤
The wig community needs more people like you to come on here and speak the truth to new wig wearers, as I myself have discovered so much of what you have related here by myself. It took years of buying to find what works, what didn’t work, etc. I thank you for your candor and clarity. Many companies have people showing wigs to sell product and only sell product, even though they offer support groups….they are still pushing product, similar to makeup/cosmetics. You have to be careful not to be tempted to just buy because it looks so good on the person showing it. Remember, they know how to “work it!” Then you become the buyer and wonder why it doesn’t “work” for you! Thank you!
Thanks so much for watching, and for the kind words and encouragement. I was partnered with a retailer when I first started my UA-cam channel. I decided that wasn’t for me. I don’t want to be a salesperson. I want to help others along this journey, share what I know, and learn myself along the way. I appreciate your insight! ❤️😊❤️
Go to a gal called "front porch wig chat." She just started doing chats about how wig manufacturers are possibly sabotaging purchasers. She speaks about her experiences with faulty purchases. She is excellent. She started out for years with reviews of wigs. She is aiming to help, just like you. We need to help newbies and others struggling. If one continues to watch those experienced at selling the product, we can continue to be disappointed if it does not look good on us when we purchase that wig. I will continue to look forward to your spots. Also, I LOVE the other gal you mention. She is fabulous...tells the good, bad and shortcomings; the whole enchilada. I love her. And she looks so wonderful with her weight loss. Thanks again. Will stay in touch.
@@peppys25 - I am subscribed to and watch Front Porch Wig Chat as well and boy is she mad at Belle Tress! (For good reason! 😊). I also appreciate super candid people who tell it like it is! I watched a fantastic video the other day where Marlene from Marlene’s Wig & Chat Studio sounded off on an email she received from a manufacturer, reminding them to “stay in their lane.” It was priceless and evidence that she is not a puppeteer either! I smiled during her whole video and thought, you go girl! And Denise Sheets is absolutely a top notch human and wig educator. Someone else mentioned Lady Luvely Locks as well on UA-cam. I am sure there are others. Thanks again for watching and for commenting. Please do stay in touch! 😊❤️
And I adore your fur babies! I have two long hair mini doxies. I am going to check out the one you just mentioned. Marlene is great also. It is time for everyone who knows to speak up to help the newbies and the ones who have honest questions. Retailers don't help either. They are in business to stay in business, at our "expense." Thanks again for your honesty.
I think trial and error is all part of the wig journey, I am 2 years into my wig journey and everything I have experienced has helped me to learn and gain confidence including mistakes and impulse buys ❤
I agree. I just wanted to offer some tips for a “happy medium” to the experimentation. I have had conversations with so many wig sisters who have crippled themselves financially in the attempt to find the right wig(s), or who have created intense anxiety for themselves by completely going the journey alone. Maybe that works for some people, but in retrospect I think I would have been better off with falling somewhere in the middle of trial and error versus absolute pandemonium. (Unfortunately, I went pandemonium! Ha! 😂). Moderation has never been my strong suit! ❤️. Thanks for watching and for commenting. I appreciate your feedback! 😊❤️
Fantastic and informing video. I have been following you for quite awhile. I hope you keep doing them because for one, your lighting is really good and you do a great job on the reviews. The lighting on several wig reviewers I follow make the wigs look too bright. Can't wait too see more of your wig reviews. They all look so natural on you.❤❤
@@sherrydavis5599 - thank you so much for the encouragement! I think about trying to relocate when I film (because who really wants to see my bedroom 😂) but I really think it is the best and most accurate light in my house, so I always wind up back there. I guess bedroom studio it is! Thank you again for watching! 😊😊❤️😊😊
This is so helpful, thank you! ♥️ I absolutely love the hair loss and hair thinning community that I have only recently discovered. It’s great not feeling so alone.
I agree, hairloss is an emotional journey and an expensive one and these wig companies know it! I have many useless wigs I spent good money on and regret purchasing. Reviewers get freebies and they love every wig they put on. I find “most” wigs have too much volume and density, even the so called low density wigs! It’s terrible when you had really fine, thin hair to begin with! After 7 years of hairloss, I still haven’t come across the right wig!
It is a challenge for sure, and prices continue to increase. I had been associated with a retailer for my first few videos, and I tried very hard to do honest reviews. What I discovered is that the wigs I reviewed with the fewest cap features (for instance JR Caelen) gave me the greatest challenges, and I tried very hard to relay that. Most of the wigs I reviewed I bought myself, and my favorites were generally handtied, which in my opinion tend to offer the most realistic density. However, their price tags are becoming absolutely INSANE and synthetic wig lifespans are often disappointing. It’s such a vicious cycle!!! 😩❤️
Buy a wig with wefts and make it into a topper. I did and I've worn same topper for years. It makes it less dense. There are UA-cam videos to show you how 😊
@@rosam4929 That’s a great idea! Unfortunately, I don’t have enough bio hair to wear or clip in a topper anymore , but when I was at that stage there were so many wig styles that I wished were toppers. Your idea would have been a perfect solution and will probably work amazingly well for others. Thank you for sharing. 😊
Those were incredibly good tips and I wish I’d have seen this 2 years ago when I started my wig journey. I’m lucky that I haven’t had a lot of disasters costing me a fortune but there have been a few! I’m most guilty of the sales…especially for my favorite company which doesn’t always have one going on. Thx for your video…and BTW, your hair is beautiful and looks so natural! I’d love to know what it is.
@@JeanneBrady-i4v - thank you for the kind words. I wish I would follow my own advice with fidelity. Sometimes I’m still a sucker for a good clearance buy. 😂. I’m wearing Riley by Henry Margu in 10/613GR. She’s one of my favorites, and in classic HM fashion, her regular synthetic fibers last a very long time. Thanks so much for watching! ❤️😊❤️
This was a fantastic video, one of the best in this category. I am a wig wearer for 20 years and I agree with absolutely everything you point out. Thank you.
That’s definitely the consensus in this thread! So good to know. I mentioned to another wig sister in my reply that Frannie’s Hair has a wonderful return policy, but I’m so glad to know that their clearance wigs are well inspected too. Yay! ❤️😊
I think you are so right about watching reviews.... That's the greatest help of all.. I have Hair,, but love wearing extra hair like toppers...and watching reviews..really helps .. Denise is brilliant at telling you like it is.... Your video is really helpful to lots of people... Thank you 💕
Hello, your video was cute. You have a beautiful voice. I am actually experiencing hair loss and just purchased my first wig a few minutes ago. I've been watching frannie's videos. I educated myself on all of the different wig specs. It's like buying a computer. You were right. The sale was going to end in a couple hours. I didn't want to lose the discount. I almost bought three wigs because of the sale. I'm glad I found your video. My hair is 3' long, but it's not thick and beautiful anymore. I've had it long all of my life. I have always admired the short hairstyles out there. I did purchase an Isabel by Belle Tress. A short hair but has wave and curl. My hair is straight, and it doesn't hold a curl. But frannie will let us return it if we are not happy with it. Thank you for warning me. I just want to let my grey hair grow out underneath the wig. I thought maybe the hair dying is what caused my hair loss.
Thank you for watching, and welcome to the journey. I’m sure it’s one you didn’t anticipate being on; I know I didn’t, but here we are! ❤️. I just discovered Frannie’s Hair recently, and I agree with you that she is a super retailer with wonderful return policies, a passion for educating the alternative hair wearing community, and a really supportive Facebook group. I actually joined just about a month ago! Maybe we will see each other there! ❤️😊❤️
Real Talk! Thank you. I have made all the mistakes mentioned and have an embarrassing amount of wigs that I have never worn. Live and learn. I wish someone had talked about all this at the start of my journey. I have finally narrowed down what works for me (mono tops, low density, no permatease, certain shades, lengths, styles, etc) and what doesn't. It took years and many thousand dollars later. Is there a Group that you recommend re-selling like new wigs? I know there are many faves of mine that are discontinued that I would love to hunt for. Thanks again.
Hello! Thank you for watching, and I’m so sorry for the delay in responding. Somehow I missed your comment! The two groups that I have successfully bought and sold wigs from (I only sell new wigs with tags intact or those which have only been worn for review purposes) on the secondary market on Facebook include Hair Loss Sisters: Buy, Sell, Trade and New and Gently Used wigs for sale (I strongly recommend using a protected payment platform such as PayPal Goods and Services.) I have also successfully purchased wigs from Mercari, eBay, and Poshmark. ❤️
Wow, thank you so much for that I subscribe to your channel you are great as well as Denise. I was sticking to things close to my bio hair getting different lengths in the same color but people at work now because they started seeing my hair thinning more and more until I couldn’t hide it anymore. The human hair wigs are wonderful. Nobody ever knows it’s a wig so now I guess with all the questions you gave me. I think I might give a brunette wig a try as that with my bio hair and I did have auburn for a time with naturally curly hair, so I think I’m going to try and have fun with it. As far as the budget goes it’s killing me. thank you for taking so much time for helping me
Frannie’s Hair is also great for taking returns and inspecting them for open box sales. Frannie does in-depth reviews on UA-cam . Thanks for a great video 😊
For certain! I actually mentioned Frannie’s Hair in one of my replies to a wig sister in this thread as an excellent place to start her journey. Fair prices, excellent return policy, welcoming Facebook group, and fantastic educational UA-cam videos. ❤️
Yes. And Frannie will usually do a showing video of the actual final sale wigs/open box. And the other you mentioned good too - Namebrandwigs. Just not WigStudio1. They don’t have pictures of inventory and final sale Faulty wigs. And I know Sparehaieloveaffair feels same as me about a company doing that. And believe me they did it. So I would never recommend them to do it to others like was done to me and you.
@@michele6740 - oh my! You had a bad experience with Name Brand Wigs clearance items? Please tell me more. Maybe I’ve just been lucky with what I’ve gotten!?
You’re not alone. I think that most of us have made these mistakes. Hairloss is such an emotionally charged journey. Even now, I still make some impulse buys on occasion and then think - what in the heck am I doing???!!!! Hang in there! 😊❤️😊
Great video and points! I watched many, many You Tube videos to learn about wearing wigs and all the information with this journey. I did a lot of research before I bought and bought styles similar to my own before I lost my hair. It is a long journey and don’t get frustrated if you don’t find a wig that suits you. Research, research before you click & pay for anything.
Great advice! I wish I had followed it before I got “click happy” with my darn purchases. They accumulated so quickly and before I knew it I was standing there wondering what in the world happened! Thanks so much for watching! 😊
I wish I had found this video 6 months ago. It would’ve saved me a lot of money!! Thank you for making this video. So many wig sisters will benefit from it just like I did. ❤❤❤
What a great video! I 100% agree with all your advice. I am 12 years into my journey with wigs and I have made it through by watching reviews like these. Your recommendation of Denise is also spot on, she has been one of my all time favorites for details, honesty and knowledge. I am also quickly becoming a fan of yours as well. We have similar face shapes and that is super helpful for me, I also love regular fibers as well, Gabor and HM are on my regular rotation for purchases. I have accumulated more than 150 wigs and one point in time because I couldn’t find the right one for me - taking color style face shape and brand all into consideration, you won’t always look great in every wig even after as many years as I have I still depend on videos (for what’s new in color and style and also for how it looks outside vs inside since mfg pics do not always look the same and they are modeled on well….petite models who could wear a rug on their head and make it appealing lol. I’m glad I found your channel and thank you again for giving us all advice and tips and your time 😊
@@Mrswiersma444 - thanks so much for watching and for your comment. I appreciate your insight and personal perspective. I, too, rely on the experiences of other reviewers to help me make more informed decisions. And yet there are still times I’m far more impulsive than I should be. ❤️😊
WOW, What a nice video!!! thankyou for this. On a daily basis I do feel very much alone on my hair journey, thankyou for reminding me that I’m not!!!! I have joined a few groups but I’m always to afraid to post..You have most definitely inspired me to get involved and be part of this community of amazing people !!! Happy New Year pretty lady🥰
Happy New Year and thank you for the kind sentiments! You are absolutely not alone. I did some research before filming this video, and I had done statistics that I ended up cutting out just because the video was getting too long. But apparently, diseases and conditions which result in hair loss are at an all time high worldwide. You are absolutely not alone. There is a supportive and helpful group of wig siblings out here just waiting for you! ❤️😊❤️
Thank you from Italy!!! Here is very difficult to find wigs shops. I purchuse my wig online. My favourite is WIG LOVE, it's italian. I hope this info can help italians wigs wearing. Thank you again!!❤
Great job! I totally agree with all your points. I will say, there is one company with less expensive spare hair that I like. Sometimes if I just want to try a new style, I go with that before I invest in a similar expensive wig. I can always wear the less expensive one at home. Thanks for this video and the great link to Denise Sheets’ series.
Absolutely! May I ask what company you recommend? I am far from a wig snob- I have found wigs in all price ranges that look great. The key is knowing what you’re doing with them, I think, and at the beginning of my journey I had absolutely NO CLUE! 🤦♀️. ❤️😊❤️
Hi, I replied, but don’t see that reply here. I like Jaclyn Smith wigs from Paula Young. Lovely fiber and good fit for my petite average circumference. Colors limited though and I think rooted looks best. Good return policy, fast shipping, terrific sales.@@sparehairloveaffair
13:15 If you are going to experiment with basic caps or trying inexpensive wigs maybe you should - I know women that like them just fine especially if have a pixie/ bang/fringe shorter wig - you don’t need lace front. So some of you might want to start there. And you don’t have to buy 10-15 and loose that money. I started there and agree those wigs didn’t work for me, but it didn’t cost me anything because Amazon lower end wigs are returnable no charge. I did that part thru Amazon. I did keep, and wore, about 4 of those cheaper (aprox $85) but returned a lot as I went. Amazon can afford the returns ;) And I spend 100’s of $ a week there so don’t start 😂 I was at UPS every other day at first ordering and returning from Amazon. And this is my experience… Amazon human hair if you like longer hair is your best buy (it says for black women but if color is right it works for all) Only thing is I like ear tabs and stays. The human hair doesn’t have them and I have to bobby pin by ears to feel comfortable. Amazon has the best start for returning and exchanging unless get into the high end wigs but even then they just have you pay shipping back. The lower end you can try all you want. I agree that I like the higher end only because I don’t like hair on my face - so I need lace front and low density.. and I want ear stays. I did lot’s of research before the high priced retailers. And never had to return anything until I took that chance on the final sale. And if they send you a faulty wig, or even a wig that was used or the dye job was just super off- nothing you can do. I would advise never to do a final sale at anything over $80. Too easy for them to send you stuff they just want to get ride of then what too bad. And why is it final sale anyway 🤔 Just don’t do it. :)
Excellent, EXCELLENT point about Amazon. They sure as heck can afford the returns!!! Quite different than a smaller online retailer. This is great advice. 😊
Thank you for this video. When I first started this journey I watched 100’s of videos in anticipation of my upcoming chemo. I was suprised at the sneaky selling tricks. And it is like feeding on people’s emotions. I found Denise Sheets to be one of the few that this didn’t happen. It took me a minute but in feeling for the newbies I started commenting things that were not being disclosed like, “Don’t drink the Kool Aide, Ladies. She is not showing you that if the lace goes all the way around the ear tabs you will have to glue it down…” etc. I could see the reviewer covering up that the lace was moving around the ear tabs. One of them did disclose that it would need to be glued after that. But not to disclose or forget is one thing. But I’ve watched several of them hide it. Another example is the temple to temple lace not extended down the curve of your face (meaning you really can’t push it off your face) and some reviewers/sellers would put their hands over the regular cap that is viable between the top lace and the ear tab - to actually hidethat from the viewer. I got to know which “reviewers” were authentic and which were sales people. Like the reviewers saying the terrible looking white hairs in the front of the dark root - at the hairline - front & center that is especially stark and visible if you pull hair off your face “in a contour” And they say, “… Oh, so well done the way they brought these (white as hell 😂) highlights up front here. So pretty. It looks like you just went and had your hair colored at the sa-lon.” What? No, it doesn’t. Are you targeting women that have never gotten their hair colored? 😂 Cuz it looks fake, or at the very least like you have gray/white hairs growing out of your hair line! Nobody goes to the salon and says, “See my over the top, too dark roots? Don’t touch those. I don’t want the root colored. That’s not why I’m here, at the sa-lon. I just want you to get a fine paint brush and some bleach and paint the hairs at my hairline with the bleach. And be sure to make it lighter than any highlights I have in my previous coloring. 😂 Oh, and see if you can make it appear that I’m wearing a fine, whitest white, thin, 1/8, piece of lace as a head band on my forehead! … it would be salon top notch & much appreciated.
I just laughed so hard reading this! You are very right! Denise is brutally honest, and I’ve also not been a fan of the bright white highlight band around the face on so many wigs. I prefer a subtle dispersion. You are completely, totally accurate about so much of this. 😂😂. Thanks so much for watching, and for your authenticity. You just brightened my day-maybe you should start reviewing? I for one would ABSOLUTELY subscribe, and I’m betting a lot of others would as well!!!❤️😊❤️
Thank you. I’m wearing Riley by Henry Margu in 10/613GR. Mane Attraction’s Showgirl in Sunflower is nearly identical to Riley in style and color and is at a lower price point. Hope this helps. ❤️
Thank you for these tips. #9 is a very good one. I'm relatively new to wig wearing and i have 2 basic cap wigs, one that I've had for a cpl years and the other is a recent purchase (bc it was on sale which i think #8 addresses 😄❤) i have worn neither in public yet and i doubt i ever will. So i just ordered January by Jon Renau and am waiting for it. Lace front and monofilament. Also looking at Alia which has the same features. I'm not going to buy any more basic caps unless i figure out the magic to making them look less wiggy, if that's possible. I love your review on Alia in Almondine or as i know it, Caffe Mocha. Think this will be my next purchase. Thank you! You look lovely in every wig I've seen you in 🙌💛
Thank you for your kind words. I am betting you will love January and Alia. I have never seen a face shape that those styles did not compliment, and in my opinion both of those wigs are comfortable. In my opinion, there is still a use for those super basic cap wigs- I wear mine outside when mowing the lawn, or gardening, or on a boat sometimes (if I know I’m going to get in the water too and don’t want to damage a more expensive wig). I’ve found that using hair accessories like clips or headbands really helps with making wiggy wigs look more realistic. If they are long enough to put into an updo, even better. Thank you again for watching, and let me know how Alia works out for you! 😊
Thank you so much! I hope that many people see this. Watching your videos, helps a lot. I have been watching Denises channel since she began. Such a wonderful person! And yes, everyone should watch her videos. So much information! Thanks again!
My biggest issues when I get a wig is 1- ear tabs hurting my ears or 2- it riding up in the back. I have removed ear tabs before, I mean regular ones but then the wig no longer fits right. It's frustrating. I am on SSI so my ability to find a good wig at a price I can afford is not easy, I mean what one person calls affordable may still be out of my price range.
I feel your frustration. Lately, I feel like there is a lot of variation even among the same style and the same brand of wigs, as if quality control at the manufacturer has taken a nap. And the prices just keep going up. I have a really short over the head measurement from ear to ear, and my ear tabs are sometimes problematic and on occasion painful. Sometimes, I will fold them up instead of removing them so they still offer some “form” on that area. I also can’t go without a wig grip or I experience issues with slippage in the back too. I found that some of my issues with wig fit were solved when I finally found a wig grip that stayed on my head- the regular Velcro ones slip up and then so does my wig. I have a lot more success with a wig grip that has a thin piece of elastic in the back. This video generated many more views and comments than I was expecting, but it really generated some great conversation and got me to thinking- especially about the issue of wig affordability. I’m blessed right now in my life that I am able to fit most wigs into my budget, but this hasn’t always been the case. There were times in my life when I had to pick what bill to pay, and I vividly remember cutting open my toothpaste tube to get the last bit out because it was still two days until I got paid. There are undoubtedly people in that financial situation who are experiencing hair loss, people in the middle who are working hard to make ends meet or are on on fixed incomes, and moms who I’m confident choose to just go without so that their children have something they need. We toss around the phrase wig community a lot, and that got me to thinking- what is a community? Community to me means a group of people who care about each other, and have a sense of connectedness and belonging. Retailers and manufacturers aren’t going to band together and suddenly address the issue of affordability; they are primarily about profit. But there are grass roots organizations I’m learning about within our wig community made of wig siblings who can help close the gap between people who could use a little help obtaining wigs, and people who have extra wigs they would love to anonymously gift. I think my next video will be about those organizations so that hopefully through awareness we can strengthen our community.❤️
@@sparehairloveaffair which wig grip do you use? I have one from Wig Guru that has the elastic on the back, the Velcro ones hurt me and are bulky. I am so happy to hear someone else talk about pricing. I get companies need to make a profit but the prices on some are just stupid. I saw a very long human hair one for over $5,000 and I was like say what? And the medical ones are thousands of dollars too. I have Medicaid and I am pretty sure they wouldn't approve one for such a steep price. They already pay tens of thousands of dollars for my prosthetic legs. My current one cost almost $16,000! I am a below the knee amputee of 4 years almost 5, and a certified peer visitor for the Amputee Coalition as well. I can only do online visits with amputees as I live off grid in the middle of a 30,000 acre ranch that has been broken down into parcels of 20-40 acres. I live with my oldest son and our property is 40 acres. My Alopecia Areata and burning scalp syndrome began 5 months after I recovered from Covid in Dec of 2021. It was awful, I had lost my sense of smell but not taste but it was like having bronchial pneumonia and stomach flu all at once. I was super sick, but luckily no fever. I had a great medical team and they did a video chat almost everyday as I have asthma, Ventricular Tachycardia and high blood pressure so they made sure I could stay home instead of ending up on a respirator. But it was 3 weeks of hell and I also developed IBS-D so that's almost been going on 2 years straight too. I just want to be able to do video visits without having to wear a beanie which hurts my scalp. Unfortunately I find that buying a wig online is totally taking a risk cause even knowing your measurements there is no guarantee that it will fit right and that's frustrating. If you need any help with ideas or research let me know. Being on disability I don't have really anything going on normally.

That too!!! lol! 😂😂. I take Ambien for insomnia, and have been surprised quite a few times by the result of some “under the influence” shopping. My husband always jokes that I’m as surprised as he is when packages show up at our door. He’s not wrong! 😂
Thank you very much for your kind words. I greatly appreciate it. I forgot to mention that I will donate my wigs to cancer. Hopefully, someone will be able to use them. That will warm my heart. Bless you!! Lots of hugs to you.
Hi Veronica…I’m a new subscriber to your channel because of this video. It popped up on my YT feed this morning and immediately caught my attention when I saw the pile of wigs on your bed with your adorable cats resting on them. Sadly, I think my wig pile might be bigger. It was meant to be that I see this video as I have been on a panic-stricken, wig buying spree for three months due to hormonal hair loss, and have yet to find an acceptable (to me) wig, but neither have I tried all of them on. Many wig boxes are still unopened due to overwhelming exasperation. There may be one wig in the mix that I haven’t given enough time and attention to. It has caused me debt that I’m not in the financial position to be in. It is a hard lesson to learn, but I have to somehow stop the wig buying and figure out how to move forward without causing more damage to my finances. I really appreciate that you addressed this dilemma so many newbies to wigs experience. Thank you so much - Andrea
Deep breath, sister. I am confident that many of us have been (or are) exactly where you are. The hair loss journey is so emotionally challenging, and unfortunately it is so very easy to overspend in those all too frequent moments of panic and uncertainty when we try to frantically reassemble ourselves through buying just one more wig. It takes a concerted effort for me some days to intentionally STAY OFF my favorite wig retailer websites. Give yourself a little bit of grace; what is done is done in terms of purchasing. Make a resolve to do better each day. Work with what you have instead of buying a new style. Trade with a wig sister. Above all, remember that you are not alone and this journey will get easier in time. Big hugs. ❤️
@@sparehairloveaffair Thank you, Veronica, for your kind and soothing words. Yes, I agree, what’s done is done, and I shouldn’t beat myself up about it. I feel that I’m turning a corner and with the knowledge I’ve picked up from wig sisters like yourself and Denise Streets, I can now give my wigs a second try-on and hopefully find a couple of wigs that work for me and give me confidence to move forward in a more stable way. I look forward to browsing your previous videos.🩵
I could have done just that! I actually have 3 dogs and 3 cats. Those two goofballs just happened to be lounging while I was getting ready to film, so they got a cameo appearance. One of my cats, I noticed, walks through the background of the video at one point too. If I close the door, everyone sits outside and whines/meows. It’s easier to just let them be themselves. 😂🐶
@@sparehairloveaffair 😂😂😂 tell me about it! They sound like they’re dying when I refuse to open the door! 😂 They’re so dramatic! But they’re our spoiled babies, and we’ll give them damn near anything they want if they give us the sad eyes😂
I can’t THANK YOU ENUFF for this video! I’ve been keeping a guilty secret. I’ve been wearing wigs for only a couple of years. I have at least 35-40 or maybe more. I’m tempted by wig reviews. Sometimes I wonder if the reviews are sales pitches? I’d hate to think that. I’ve grown so fond of a couple reviewers. I’m a bang girl. I look best in bangs. (My bio bangs are gone too…) But I see so many reviews about all the “bells and whistles” and hand tied, no bangs, I bought quite a few. I’m not comfortable in them. I love my wigs with bangs that don’t need lace fronts and really don’t need monofilament tops either. I got them cause I think I was trying to keep up with the Jones’s. I’m embarrassed. I feel guilty. I’ve become a wigaholic! One good thing. I don’t owe money on them. I pay in full. I don’t charge. But I must stop. It’s enuff. I appreciate your video. My bed would be filled too. And, ya know what? My favorite wig personally and the one I get tons of complements on is discontinued and $40! I’ve got 6 of them! I love the style. My $400-$500 wigs I wear infrequently or not often! Go figya !
Well said! 😊 I think that soooo many of us identify with what you’ve written. It can be a viscous cycle. Sounds like you’ve got the financial piece of things down in a positive way though- not charging is a really good practice. I think so many of our wig siblings get overwhelmed by debt associated with panic wig buying. It can make a bad situation even worse. I appreciate you sharing your experiences and for watching! ❤️😊❤️
So, RU no longer associated with an online wig co? I don’t think so? I started going back to look over all your videos as I just found you and you did mention an online retailer in a few and then stopped. Just curious.❤️
@@sandradle756 - you are correct. 😊 I had been partnered exclusively with one online retailer, and I dissolved that partnership on November 11, 2023. I do not want to be a salesperson. My passion is supporting others in our wig community, sharing what I’ve learned, and providing brutally honest reviews. Most of the pieces I reviewed I had purchased with my own funds, and they were from my own personal collection, so it was very easy to be positive about those styles. 😊❤️😊
@@sparehairloveaffair IMHO you did a good thing. I mentioned in my first comment that I’ve become very fond of two reviewers. They are both working for the same retailer. And it *is* working. It’s not “volunteering!” I cherish them for giving me so much knowledge, strength and hope. I learned so much from them both and still do. One, in particular, gives the most amazing reviews with details that have helped me so much. But, I’ve yet 2C them not like or love a wig. And by the time the video is over, I swear, I wanna hop online to their retailer (at least at first)and order it! And on numerous occasions have! Jeez, it’s so hard. Call it a cliche but it’s like “a kid in a candy store!” I’m getting better. But, honestly, if I never bought another wig in my life, I’d have plenty to choose for most of the rest of my life. I’m chronologically a senior citizen. My brain and spirit, however, do not agree with Mother Nature! I only bought 1 wig in the past month or so. I bought Girl Mono. I have loved that wig but Ellen Wille can run small. Well, it came out in large! How could I resist?? Do ya blame me 😂! I’m still a work in progress. 🤣🤣🤣🤗❤️
@@sandradle756 oh, I feel you!!!!! Wigs are fun and beautiful, after all. Who couldn’t help but be tempted????!!! Plus, they keep us looking as young as we feel. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
At least when you’re first starting out, for sure! I can manage to make some wigs with basic cap features look a little more natural now that I’m a couple years into my wig journey, but at the beginning I just looked like Cousin It! 😂
I’ve only wanted to return 1 wig. I have never returned anything. I haven’t found “the wig” yet. But I have made the wigs I’ve gotten work before the Wigstudio1 debacle. I keep them and work with them like wear one in up-do, one in pony tail, one with two side braids and baseball cap. But the 1 wig I got from Wigstudio1 that was a final sale was faulty. The only one that I was not going to be able to work with at all and shouldn’t have to on this one. It was faulty. And the only one I ever have tried to exchange. I told them I would pay for restock and all shippings to just replace it because it could not be worked with at all and I would never be able to utilize it. It was damaged goods as far as I’m concerned- If it doesn’t cost company a penny and they say they don’t think there is anything wrong with it… well then give me another one and you that this one since you say that it is fine.. why wouldn’t you. 🤔 Catch 22 - It was like they purposefully sold a returned and faulty wig on final clearance (I still paid $260 for the wig) just for them to get rid of it.
Oh my! I am both surprised and sorry to hear this. I recommended Wig Studio1 because personally I have always had great success when buying clearance items from them (I am in no way affiliated with them); my Wig Studio1 clearance items have had the checklist enclosed with all the pertinent sections of inspection marked and I have been very satisfied. What you are describing is really unfortunate and in my opinion not a good business practice. There is a huge difference between open box and damaged. I'm really sorry that happened to you.
@@sparehairloveaffair Thank you. I just wanted people to know. They will not care or listen to you if there happens to be a problem. They wouldn’t even acknowledge there could be something wrong. It was just … too bad. And 1 other lady said it happened to her too. I just want people to know when they are recommending that this goes on. If you happened to get a defective wig - there would be no recourse. No matter how much I was willing to pay or meet them where it would cost them nothing. So then why don’t you want to exchange it? 🤔 I think they are fraudulent. Another lady said she got a damaged one too and said it seemed like they were trying to get rid of damaged inventory. Even then - might want to cheapen the price more so than to $260. That is a lot to throw away.
@@michele6740 - that is rotten (I would use other words but I might be in trouble for not meeting the UA-cam community standards 🙄.). I appreciate the information and again, I’m really sorry you had that experience. That’s just plain wrong. These wigs cost too much money to not be protected when there is faulty merchandise. It’s infuriating. 😡
I have to say that your video was extremely informative, heartfelt, and honest in its presentation. More wig wearers need to hear the good, bad, and the ugly before they can make an informed decision and even with that, you’ll still get caught with some lemons.😂. I look forward to more of your helpful tips.
Very true about the lemons, unfortunately. And even when armed with the tools to make an informed decision, sometimes we still make an emotional one. I think one thing I forgot to mention is that we need to give ourselves some grace when we make the occasional impulse or less than stellar decision ❤️. Thanks so much for watching and for your kind feedback. 😊
I’m so happy I found your channel! Thank you God! I have been suffering with hair loss for a long time. In the last two years I developed what you call Discoid Lupus. Guess what that affects your scalp and hair loss and did it ever affect me. I have hardly got any hair left. This has run my life for years why did I have to loss my hair! This video has been very helpful and I thank you so much!❤️
I’m sorry you are riding the autoimmune disease train, but at least we’re riding it together. My diagnosis is uncertain at this point, but thank God MS has been ruled out. I take medication daily used to treat RA, which makes a huge difference with my symptoms, but doesn’t explain all of them. I’m sorry you have been struggling with Discoid Lupus. I try to look on the bright side of wigs- all the variety and fun that wigs bring, as well as convenience. It doesn’t completely make up for my hair loss but makes me feel less negatively about it. Know you are not alone. You have a whole bunch of wig siblings riding the train with you. We serve appetizers at 3. 😉❤️
I am new to the wig world. I have always had somewhat thin hair, but have noticed significant thinning over the past several months. I recently ordered my first wig but have not yet received it. It is a synthetic wig with a basic cap (coco by rene of paris) because it’s a style similar to how I wear my hair and I was able to get it in a grey similar to my natural color. I will admit price was a factor. I did not want to invest a lot of money before knowing if I could even tolerate wearing one. Your advice makes so much sense for me going forward. I also recently discovered Denise Sheets’ series. I appreciate you ladies, and others, taking the time to make these videos!!!! It’s so helpful and informative! 😊
Thanks so much for your feedback. I wish you the best of luck on your journey. There is so much information to navigate, and hair loss is such an emotionally charged experience. We are all here for you! ❤️
You certainly gave a lot of good advice here. I found cool-tone brown wigs difficult to find. The solid color often screams “wig”. The highlighted ones are often disappointing. I found the same with light gray or white wigs. I realize that dark roots are not how white or gray hair naturally grows, but imo rooted wigs look more natural. I’ve heard that heat-friendly wigs don’t last very long unless you have someone who can repair the frayed ends for you.
I agree with everything you wrote about colors, and personally I am abysmal at properly caring for heat-friendly wigs. I need to practice using heat tools to refresh them, as there are so many folks out there who have how-to videos on how to care for HD fibers and say it’s not too hard once you get the hang of it. I’m a couple years into it and I still don’t have the hang of it. 😂. But yes, in my personal experience HF fibers do not last as long without proper care. But they look and feel so beautiful, and some of my favorite styles are only made of HF fibers. Quite a conundrum! ❤️
You are beautiful and insightful. Thank you for helping educate us. Imagine all the avoided mistakes for us if we heed your advice. If I might ask, and this is a bit off topic; your bedding set and shams are utterly gorgeous. Do you mind sharing the brand/source? Thanks for all you do!
Oh gosh, thanks so much for the kind words and I don’t mind sharing at all! I purchased my bedding from Macys.com. In fact, I purchase almost all of my bedding and linens there because when they have a sale, quality products cost way less than ones from Walmart or Amazon that tend to wear out quickly. This particular set is J Queen New York La Boheme 4 piece comforter set on Ivory. It claims to be dry clean only, but I throw it in the washing machine all the time. 😉
I wish I would have seen your video when I first started on my wig journey. I unfortunately went down that rabbit hole. I have learned my lesson but it came at a price. I am on SSI and also very ill. Money is very tight so I must be very careful the next time I purchase a wig. I will be looking for wig hat in the future. Hopefully, I will find one that I like and can afford.
I’m sorry to learn that you are ill, and I do hope you feel better. I think we have all taken steps down that rabbit hole at one time or another. Do not berate yourself over past mistakes; it’s too darn hard when emotions are high and you don’t feel well to boot. Please know you’ve got a community of wig wearers here to rally around you. ❤️
Great video! Really informative, and learned a lot. I'd like to share my wig journey if anyone wants to see. I'm AMAB, so have usual male pattern baldness. I've also have alopecia, so started wearing wigs daily in 2018. It's harder for LGBT people like me, as all videos are mainly ladies, and men's are those hair systems. I wear ladies wigs (my favourite are rooted blondes and rooted reds) as mens look so boring, and I've always hi-lighted and comoured my hair every 5 minutes, so people dont take much notice if I change my hair. I don't care any more, so wear what I like, when I like. (I'm very lucky to have a very supportive partner). I've bought all my wigs on ebay mostly. My first wig was a brand new Natural Image wig in a charity shop for £3, and that started me on my journey. All mine are mainly Ellen Wille, Raquel Welch, Gisela Mayer, Dimples, Rene Of Paris, Henry Margu etc. A lot have lace fronts and mono tops, but I like a bit of machine teasing. Most I have ever paid was £31- mostly spend £10-20 on average, and mostly are new with tags. So it's not the end of the world if it is no good, as I've only spent the price of a couple of cups of coffee. I've had a clear out and still have 50+ of my own wigs! I can't believe how much some wigs are, especially human hair. I personally prefer a good synthetic wig, as they ate so very light, comfortable, takes mere seconds to style, no frizz, easy to wash- I'm lazy lol. I hope my tip about ebay helps someone- it has enabled me to have a fabulous large collection, and all good makes (rrp usually £120-350!). I find that wigs with Velcro type fasteners are usually better quality, than the metal hook and loop ones that you find with cheaper wigs.
Thank you so much for watching and sharing your story. Your tips are outstanding! eBay is a great resource for sure, and I’ve actually found some good deals on Poshmark and Mercari too. There is definitely a wonderful sense of freedom with not caring what anyone thinks anymore, and wearing what types of styles you like and what feels good. My personal conviction is that life is too short to be boring or worrying about anyone else’s opinions- as long as I’m being true to myself and treating others the way I want to be treated, i figure I’m living an authentic life in the most important sense of the word. 😊. I have a feeling you are as well, and I’m glad to hear you have a supportive partner in your wig journey and have found the joy in alternative hair! Thanks so much for watching and for sharing your wig story! ❤️😊❤️
Thank you for such a thoughtful and helpful video. You know, it's really strange. When I had to do chemo, I didn't LIKE losing my hair, but I didn't feel like I was somehow to BLAME for it - ha! Now, though, even though I have metastatic breast cancer and do monthly shots that I'm pretty sure (well, SURE) affect my hair (loss), I somehow feel like it's a personal shortcoming. KNOWING it's not and FEELING like it's not are two different things - ha! Anyway, I've recently started buying some wigs and have actually worn some of them in front of people who know me - ha! - and your video is very helpful. :o) Annette
I cannot personally identify with having cancer, but from my perspective you are demonstrating the beauty of inherent strength DAILY by fighting this disease. But, I know what you mean with the knowing versus feeling part. It took me quite a while to get over that hump of insecurity, loss, and powerlessness. But at some point, I think I determined that I needed to focus more on what to do about my hair loss instead of on why I was losing it or I was going to lose my mind in addition to my hair. 😂 For some, focusing on hair regrowth is very important. I somehow skipped that tenet and moved straight to “how can I use this wig to feel like myself again.” It’s definitely strange how psychologically affecting hair loss can be. On one hand it seems like it should be trivial or vain, but for me personally I felt like I had lost a piece of myself. I truly hope you become more comfortable in wigs and can find some joy in wearing them. I also hope that you remember that there is a whole community of wig sisters (myself included) who are cheering you on in your pursuit of health and battle with cancer. ❤️❤️. Thank you so much for sharing your feelings. 😊 Veronica
Well, thank you so much for the kind note! And I agree with you about wearing a wig to "feel like myself again." I also tell myself, nobody else cares if I'm wearing a wig anyway - ha! Thank you again. :o)@@sparehairloveaffair
Hi! I have been thinking about you since you first posted this video. Have you tried the petite sized wigs? Envy and Jon Reneau run small and some other brands have small sizing. You have said that the wigs are big on you. This effects how they look over all. Plus if it is not fitting right, it does not feel like your hair and You are wearing bulky caps and hair grips with them. It really does make all the difference! It can also seem like too much hair. ( I have the other problem with a big head). Wish you all the best!! You are making great videos!
Thank you for sharing your thoughts- you are absolutely accurate on everything you wrote! I I just finished my second year of my wig journey now, and I discovered much of what you’ve just shared. I swim in Estetica caps, Henry Margu is a little big in circumference but fits my over the top and front to back measurements well, and RW handtied (Elite versions) wigs fit me much better than their traditional counterparts. It’s just that it took me far too long to discover all of what you just shared. I was very impatient, reactive, and impulsive. I didn’t do my research. I didn’t join a wig community. I didn’t watch reviews. And boy, I wish I had!!!! Your advice is excellent!!! I’ve got things figured out much better these days, and I’m so grateful for the wig community at large. It’s wonderful the way that people support each other and share information and experiences. I wish I would have found you all sooner in my journey!!! Thank you for sharing your insight. ❤️😊❤️
Well thank you! I’m wearing Riley by Henry Margu in the color 10/613GR. She’s an extended lace front, regular synthetic, and her fibers last a very long time. Mane Attraction’s Showgirl in the color Sunflower is essentially identical to Riley and at a lower price point. Hope this helps. 😊❤️
I found that I make sure i get a high heat tolerant wig. If it gets out of control i can use a heat spray and use a hot comb to get the kinks out . I get a wig with bangs. Even long bangs so i dont have to deal with a lace front. I also use a velvet band made for wig wearing. To put under the wig. This stops the wig from slipping at all as i have a physical job. Best advice is do what makes you happy. ❤ take care. Thank you for this video. Forgot to mention. Don't use sprays that contain essential oils on synthetic wigs. I am a licensed massage therapist and know about essential oils. Essential oils will literally melt synthetic wigs. I use TRESemme heat tamer spray with a hot comb. And for daily conditioning I like Pantene Miracle Rescue. Just a suggestion. ❤
Great tips! I can’t keep a wig on my oddly shaped head without a wig grip so I wear them every day too! I haven’t tried using a heat spray on my HD wigs; do you have one you recommend? 😊❤️
@sparehairloveaffair I use TRESemme' heat tamer spray. And don't use ANY spray that has essential oils in it. I am a massage therapist, and I use essential oils a lot. They are concentrated and strong. Essential oils will literally melt synthetic wigs.

TY so very much for this video- what a great help! I've had continuing hair loss for a very long time - having been diagnosed with male pattern baldness after the birth of my first child. It's SO bad now that I barely have any bio hair left. I have recently been looking into wigs - but being fully retired now, and on a fixed income - it is VERY hard for me to find something I like at a price I can afford. One of my biggest problems is trying to discover what the different colors really look like when I DO actually find a wig style I like. I like the blondes like the one you are wearing - it's my favorite shade. I find blondes that look very nice - but don't have any rooting and so they really don't look natural. Usually when I find a wig style I like I try to find as many wig reviews as I can on youtube - but most of the time, I cannot find the blonde colors. Do you have any ideas of other places to look to find a wig style shown on a human being in all of it's various shades? Or where to find more wig reviews other than youtube? Ty so much for any help you might be able to give.
Hello! The whole color/style equation is so very difficult. I have two suggestions for you. The first is to join one of the Facebook wig groups that I mentioned; nearly every wig retailer seems to have one these days, as do many hair loss groups not associated with a retailer, and many times if you pose a question to a wig sister in the group, someone will be willing to share a photo of them in a style/color or to actually snap a color comparison photo for you. That can be very helpful. (For instance, you could post- can anyone tell me the Raquel Welch HD color closest to Henry Margu’s 10/613GR?) Another option, depending on where you live, is to visit a wig shop/boutique in person. Being able to see a color or style with your own eyes might be most helpful, especially once you’ve narrowed things down. From what I understand, many brick and mortar shops have lowered their prices to remain competitive with online retailers. And remember, it is still ok to window shop. ❤️. I hope this helps a little bit. Thanks so much for watching! 😊
I have several wigs that i want to give to a cancer organization but i dont know the infornation. Are there web sites that i can contact? Most of these wigs are from great companys . I just not real happy with style on me and would love to donate.
I have recently discovered Sister to Sister- Blessed With Hair to Share on Facebook. It is a wonderful organization which accepts wig donations and also accepts applications from women in need. Applicants are prioritized according to medical and financial need. I just recently joined so that I could donate and have been so impressed with how thorough the process is. The ladies who organize this endeavor are so well organized! ❤️
Well I bought a Raquel Welch wig that a have wanted for a while from "Name brand wigs". I am a licensed cosmetologist, of many years and have been wearing wigs for 10 yrs. That wig was the worst purchase I have ever made!!! I paid $232. So very disappointed!!! Will never purchase from them again!!
@@deborahjohns7999 -did you try to return? I may be wrong, but I believe that many times brand new wigs don’t go through an inspection process by the retailer, especially if they are drop shipped. Only returned ones that retailers put on clearance do? (I could be completely off base on this belief though! 😬) I have had brand new wigs over the course of my journey that were defective to the point that I honestly think the quality control folks at the manufacturer took a coffee break during the time when they were supposed to be inspecting the wig I bought. But I’ve always been very fortunate in that retailers have been very good about standing by their return and exchange policies. I’m not associated with any retailer, so I’m honestly only speaking on my personal experiences, and as a wig sister I’m bummed for you that you got a less than satisfactory wig. 😩 I’m also confident that in your 10 years of wig wearing and experience in cosmetology you know what a wig should and should not look like. That is the worst when you spend a lot of money. I’m so sorry you had that experience. 🥲
This is great thank you. I love Denise. My question is do you only wear synthetic? I only can wear human hair as my scalp is so sensitive. I’m newly bald and struggling.
I wear both human hair and synthetic. I agree with you that if you are experiencing extreme scalp sensitivity, the cap styles offered by human hair wig manufacturers are probably your best bet. However, I’m wondering if you’ve tried a fully hand tied synthetic wig? Some of the lux styles have silicone ear tabs and napes, extremely soft and comfortable caps, and remind me from a construction perspective of my human hair wigs.
@@sparehairloveaffair thank you so much for answering I actually have and there’s something about the fibers of the hair it’s like brush bristles on me. I get so red and itchy. Your video is very informative because I keep buying every. Human hair wig. I see on sale now I’m trying colors and different styles. I just wanna feel confident again I feel so ugly and you’re right about research. I only go by what Denise recommends and I go by what she says on the CC construction I have just ordered the Leah human hair wig and a danity by invogue medical. I am so glad I found our channel. I trust her. She’s very honest. I’m just having a tough time with all this.
@@christineciccone2201 - deep breath, we’ve got you sister! This can all be super overwhelming and emotionally exhausting. When my hair loss was at its worst, I had large patches that were completely bare and I completely identify with the sensitivity you’re describing. Open wefted caps of any kind were actually painful on top of being itchy. I like synthetic wigs as an option because they are so low maintenance compared to my human hair wigs, plus they are far less expensive. The caps in the Lux collections of several manufacturers (Raquel Welch, Belle Tress) have caps that you might find much more comfortable. Please remember that you have a very large community of hair loss sisters (and brothers!) here to support you on your journey. Big hugs! 😊❤️😊
Paula Young has a series of comfort wigs with silicone on the cap. Cost slightly more but are supposed to be comfortable to wear. Heart of Gold collection.
I have a tip to add. Sometimes take a break from wig buying. It can be an addiction. I found myself buying every three weeks like clockwork and not ending up with any better choices. After two bad, disappounting purchases, I said, that's it! No more. Until I sell the perfectly fine (but not good for me) extra, never worn wigs, I am not purchasing any more.
Excellent tip. I find myself having to do the same thing. It is so easy to get sucked in, and I think the convenience of online shopping makes it even more difficult. ❤️
Hello! I absolutely can and will, but until then, please take a look at Denise Sheets’ video link below on this topic. It is SUPER helpful! I think that trying different styles and colors is part of the fun of wearing wigs, but it depends on a couple of factors. These would include your budget, where you are on your wig journey (are you comfortable with people knowing that you wear wigs, and are you comfortable seeing yourself with hair significantly different from what your bio hair used to look like, and can you return a style if it is absolutely not for you?). If you can answer yes to those questions, I say go for it. But if you are new to your journey, I would start with a style and color similar to your bio hair. Anything else will be too much of a change at first and will most likely result in disappointment or frustration. I hope this helps. ❤️
12:20 I have 4 synthetic wigs which l would not dare wear in public, my hair loss got so bad that l had to take the plunge and ended up puchasing a human hair wig, l know affordability is not for everyone but l am not sorry, full lace top, very fine and first time in my life l had the guts to actually go out in public wearing it. It's costly, but worth it. I would never again go synthetic.
I think there are many people who feel exactly the way you do. I have several very expensive human hair wigs, and they are (as you described) so incredibly realistic and natural. I would characterize them as luxurious. However, I personally like the convenience that a good synthetic wig offers me- just plop and go. My lifestyle and schedule are hectic, and sometimes when I’m not working the last thing I feel like doing is properly caring for or styling my wigs. (Ok, I’m lazy! 😂). I personally enjoy the variety of choices that wigs provide, and while I have friends who will also not wear anything but human hair, I’m still comfortable with a good synthetic wig that requires nothing from me other than a quick shake. I think it’s awesome that wigs offer us all choices and I’m so glad you found a piece that makes you feel confident again. In my opinion, that’s what it’s all about. Feeling good and feeling more like yourself again. Thanks so much for watching and for your feedback. 😊❤️
@@sparehairloveaffairI'd love to just plonk it on and be confident, but some are like helmets and the shine, OMG. Can you suggest a really realistic piece, l have Ocean E.W, Zuma ROP and some others. Like you mentioned in your video, l think a Handtied piece would probably be a better choice, still cheaper than some human hair, but if it looks good, l would try it.
@@mollywillow3671 -oh sister, trust me I have had my share of helmet hair and shine so bad I felt like I was wearing a search light!!!! In my opinion, some brands and colors are worse than others. What shade/color are you looking for? I’m betting that minimal to no permatease would be important. Does the nape matter (extended versus non extended)? Give me some more info and let me brainstorm for you. 😊
@@sparehairloveaffair l like updos, maybe mid shoulder. ZARA light looks beautiful. It would be good to have a spare piece l can alternate with. Thanks for your time. I really appreciate it.
@@sparehairloveaffair l'm a mousy brunette, cool toned. A lot out there are rich browns. It's hard to find the right color, especially online and I'm in Australia.
Honestly, I believe there is a place for both. From a budget perspective, a human hair wig is out of reach for some people. A synthetic wig is generally more affordable and is super easy to care for, however longevity is not nearly as good as human hair. The price of synthetic wigs are starting to get out of control these days, and I’m starting to revisit my human hair pieces more often, but they require more styling and I’m a rotten stylist. I really can’t answer that question because depending on the day, my answer changes. How is that for complete ambiguity?! 😂❤️😊
Hello! I’m wearing Henry Margu’s Riley in 10/613GR. I didn’t mention it, I just rolled it across the screen quickly. Too quickly, apparently, because so many people asked. 😂❤️. Thanks so much for watching. ❤️
That works too! The convenience of wigs is unrivaled! My hair is currently growing back (again.). It’s about 2 inches long, and this is the longest it’s been without falling out (or without me buzzing it because it’s come in so wonky) in the past couple years. I don’t think I will ever quit wearing wigs even if my hair should grow back. Too much fun, too convenient, and a definite time saver! ❤️
Thank you so very much... l did exactly what you did Bless you for getting this information out there for all who are not familiar! I am new to Facebook how do you find these support groups & Denise ? Her name is familiar to me. Thank you again lwish you peace my friend xo
I honestly stumbled across one of Denise’s videos on a UA-cam search for a particular wig. From there, I was led to more of her videos and specifically her New Wig Wearer’s Series. In my quest to find information after the first few months of my wig journey, I came to believe that Denise’s series was so incredibly valuable to people starting their alternative hair journey. I wish I had found it sooner. On her website (heywigsister.com) as well as in the description boxes of many of her videos, are resources for support groups, as well as reputable sites to buy wigs, and groups on Facebook to buy and sell on the secondary market. Personally, my advice is to take the journey slowly and let the information soak in. There is a lot out there, and it can be overwhelming. Almost every online retailer seems to have its own Facebook support/chat group, and you can usually find those from the retailer’s webpage. Within the search bar of Facebook itself, you can type in terms like “Hairloss support” and see what pops up. With Facebook, usually after you subscribe to a couple of groups, Facebook will make similar suggestions for you to join other groups. I hope this helps a little bit, and I thank you for your kind words and for watching. ❤️
Same!!!! Sometimes I wonder what all the hoopla was about on a certain style, because my middle of the road gals (lace front synthetics with a fixed mono part and wefted backs) get the most wear. 😊❤️
Hi there. I’m wearing Henry Margu’s Riley in 10/613GR. She’s one of my mainstays. Die hard fibers, and though there is some permatease, she’s a very natural looking wig (in my opinion.) 😊
I just started to loose my hair four months ago… & need to get a wig now, what are some places to shop for wigs, just getting started 🙏🏼 Thanks for sharing Sub’d ❤💗🙏🏼
@@kcconaty5270 - I’d like to say welcome to the club, but I’m betting it’s a club you would rather not have joined. ❤️ It’s not so bad, and in my case I must admit that my bio hair never looked as good as my wigs do! 😉. I’m in a rather remote location, so my options are pretty much exclusively online. If you have a wig shop in your area, it’s nice to be able to physically try on different styles. From what I understand though, brick and mortar stores tend to be more expensive than online retailers. I have personally had very good purchasing experiences with Name Brand Wigs, Wig Studio 1, and TL Wigs. Return policies for those vendors are in my opinion very fair. Although I have not yet purchased from there, Frannie’s Hair also has an amazing return policy, a very supportive Facebook wig community, and a UA-cam channel with great reviews and education. Her prices also appear to be very competitive. I am sure there are many other reputable online retailers, but I have had very good experiences with those I mentioned. I hope this helps a little. And I really recommend you check out the New Wig Wearer Series I linked for Denise Sheets; she also provides the names and links for reputable online wig companies. ❤️. Thank you for watching and subscribing. 😊
@@michele6740 - yes ma’am! Riley has an extended lace front that goes to the ear tabs, and there is a decent amount of hair spliced into the ear tabs themselves. She is very easy to ear tuck, as the permatease is located higher and closer to the crown. I wear her in an updo frequently or with the bangs pulled back in a tiny clip if I’m doing work at my desk. 😊 NOTE: Mane Attraction’s Showgirl in Sunflower is nearly IDENTICAL to HM Riley in 10/613GR and considerably less expensive.
I learned that there are many people who can not afford any wig. I donate wigs that don’t work to Denise for her wig ministry
I have donated to individuals and locally to a women’s shelter, but a fellow wig sister recently let me know about Facebook group called Sister to Sister- Blessed with Hair to Share.
@@sparehairloveaffair 💕🎉
I really appreciate you.
Losing my hair is devastating.
I hope I become more comfortable.
Thank you for your channel
Big hugs. ❤️❤️
Denise Sheets is such a blessing to the wig wearing community. Thank you for the helpful info!
In fact, I’m heading on over to her channel now and am going to tell her exactly that!❤
My only complaint about Denise is that she talks waaaaaay too much. I guess I am an "instant gratification" person.
Just make sure you can at least exchange wig with paying postage only! Trial and error is not affordable to all.

Fantastic and informing video. I have been following you for quite awhile. I hope you keep doing them because for one, your lighting is really good and you do a great job on the reviews. Thank you for watching, and welcome to the club- though it’s a club that none of us really planned on joining! ❤️🥰❤️

Real Talk!
As far as the budget goes it’s killing me. thank you for taking so much time for helping me
This was all excellent advice. Sure wish I knew this when I started my wig journey. Thank you.

Name Brand Wigs and Wig Studio 1 both do a good job of inspecting returned wigs.
That has been my experience as well. ❤️
This was wonderful, thank you for the wisdom! And yes, I love Denise!!!
Thank you for the kind words and for watching! ❤️😊❤️
Thank you for getting back to me and so sweet about my diagnosis. It's so nice to find your channel and you are the best yet about this subject!❤
Thank you for the kind words. I am far from an expert, but I’m honest. If I don’t know something I promise I will lead you to someone who will! 😊❤️
So pretty. It looks like you just went and had your hair colored at the sa-lon.”
What?
I for one would ABSOLUTELY subscribe, and I’m betting a lot of others would as well!!!❤️😊❤️
I love the wig you are wearing..Looks amazing
Thank you. I’m wearing Riley by Henry Margu in 10/613GR. Mane Attraction’s Showgirl in Sunflower is nearly identical to Riley in style and color and is at a lower price point. Hope this helps. ❤️
Thank you. Thank you so much. God bless you all for making me feel less alone
I cannot thank you enough for your content, you are a blessing. 😊
Thank you so much for the encouragement! I appreciate it so very much! ❤️😊❤️
I agree about the regularity of sale wigs. BUT when I see a sale that says there is only 1 left, and it is the color I adore (60-101) I will buy it.
I am guilty of the same thing! :)
Love this! I wish I had learned this at the beginning of my journey. Thank you for sharing hon 💗🌸
Thank you so much. I appreciate you watching! ❤️

Thank you. This was super helpful!
Thanks so much. Now, if I can only follow my own advice with fidelity. 😂❤️
Thank you so much! I hope that many people see this. Watching your videos, helps a lot. I have been watching Denises channel since she began. Such a wonderful person! And yes, everyone should watch her videos. So much information! Thanks again!
Thank you very much for commenting and for watching this video. I am so glad you found the content helpful. ❤️

What wonderful advice...also you should add...don't drink and buy wigs! lol!!!
That too!!! lol!

Your song and your fur babies surrronging all your hair had my laugh! Just replace the dogs with cats and it’s my bed!! 😂

You are soo right about, don't buy the cheap wigs or buy a wig because it is inexpensive. You definitely pay for quality.
Whoa!

She’s so amazingly real and helpful!!!! ❤️. Thanks so much for watching! 😊
Me too really looking forward to watching this ❤
Great, everything you said hit me to the core. All true...wish i had just now started my journey. Thanks. Happy New year too!
Happy New Year! ❤️. I still struggle with the impulse buy on occasion, and I wonder if that will ever go away. 🤷♀️
I bet Denise has a video for those frayed ends!
This is such a good and informative video. The best
Another couple authentic reviewers like Wigsister, Denise is: “Lady Luvely Locks” & “Front Porch Wig Chat”
I watch and am subscribed to Front Porch Wig Chat, but I will need to check out Lady Luvely Locks. Thanks for the suggestions! 😊

I’m familiar with Denise, she told me is working hard on her health journey. After all that’s what’s important. Then the fluff !😅

" Wig community" Your video is great and I feel welcome !!!!! 🤗

Great advice, Thank you.
Thanks so much for watching! 😊
You are beautiful thanks so much for sharing. Yes it has been a journey thanks 😊
Thank you for watching. At least it is a road we are all on together. ❤️
My god you are beautiful and this wig is so pretty on you. Really good subject for discussion also ❤
Thanks so much for watching and for the kind words! ❤️
I would love to no what you are wearing and the color. It’s beautiful
Beautiful green eyes😊
My eyesight gets more rotten the older I get, and I can’t function without readers, but thank you! ❤️😊
@@rosesperfumelace - oh wow! That is so good to know about the oils. I had no clue. Thank you so much for the info! ❤️❤️
I needed to see this! I’mshoppin* righ5now for a new color and a short one! Can’t pull off lon*ones anymor3 I’m 68! I’ve worked hard on my weight and health! . But I have a small face 21 inch head and they overwhelm me . I don’t send back I throw away and have a huge ba#ket of them hidden 😢
@@seascape185 - I feel you. Give yourself some grace. You are not alone!!!! Congratulations on bettering your health. That is fantastic! I’m working on that too. Close to celebrating my second year smoke-free- that was a tough challenge for me! Thank you for watching! ❤️
(For instance, you could post- can anyone tell me the Raquel Welch HD color closest to Henry Margu’s 10/613GR?)
Another option, depending on where you live, is to visit a wig shop/boutique in person.
@@sparehairloveaffair thank you. I will check them out
Well I bought a Raquel Welch wig that a have wanted for a while from "Name brand wigs". I am a licensed cosmetologist, of many years and have been wearing wigs for 10 yrs. That wig was the worst purchase I have ever made!!! I paid $232. So very disappointed!!! Will never purchase from them again!!
That’s awful! From their clearance section?
@@sparehairloveaffair No supposed brand new In Charge
This is great!🎉 what style and colour is this one please and thank you !
Thank you! I’m wearing Riley by Henry Margu in the color 10/613GR. 😊
Superb 🎉
Thank you so much! ❤️😊❤️
Thank you!!!!
Can you do a video on how to measure the head area, please?
Hello! I absolutely can and will, but until then, please take a look at Denise Sheets’ video link below on this topic. It is SUPER helpful! She timestamps her videos, so if you go into the description box of the video you can go to the segments you find most helpful (although I think this whole video of hers is extremely informative if you are new to wigs. ❤️)

Do you think I should try different styles and colors?
It's hard to find the right color, especially online and I'm in Australia.
which do you recommend human hair or synthetic fiber wigs overall?
Honestly, I believe there is a place for both. From a budget perspective, a human hair wig is out of reach for some people. A synthetic wig is generally more affordable and is super easy to care for, however longevity is not nearly as good as human hair. The price of synthetic wigs are starting to get out of control these days, and I’m starting to revisit my human hair pieces more often, but they require more styling and I’m a rotten stylist. I really can’t answer that question because depending on the day, my answer changes. How is that for complete ambiguity?! 😂❤️😊
Which wig are you wearing in this video. If you mentioned it I missed it. Thank you.
Hello! I’m wearing Henry Margu’s Riley in 10/613GR. I didn’t mention it, I just rolled it across the screen quickly. Too quickly, apparently, because so many people asked. 😂❤️. Thanks so much for watching. ❤️
Thank you so much, it's beautiful on you!
yep. I have tooo many wigs.
Same, sister! Same. 🥰
I wear wigs not because I've lost my hair. But I hate going to the hairdressers and always have. So I shave my head myself and wear wigs.
OMG, I am you!
I thought I recognized you! Lol! 😉
My most expensive is my least worn wig☹️
Same!!!! Sometimes I wonder what all the hoopla was about on a certain style, because my middle of the road gals (lace front synthetics with a fixed mono part and wefted backs) get the most wear. 😊❤️
🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
what wig are you wearing?
This wig is very pretty. Can you ear tuck or wear away from your face?
@@michele6740 - yes ma’am! Riley has an extended lace front that goes to the ear tabs, and there is a decent amount of hair spliced into the ear tabs themselves. She is very easy to ear tuck, as the permatease is located higher and closer to the crown. I wear her in an updo frequently or with the bangs pulled back in a tiny clip if I’m doing work at my desk. 😊 NOTE: Mane Attraction’s Showgirl in Sunflower is nearly IDENTICAL to HM Riley in 10/613GR and considerably less expensive.
I refuse to pay anymore than $200 for a wig. Nothing has been even close to that. I have beautiful wigs…😉
I’m always in the hunt for good wigs at a good price. ❤️😊 Do you have any recommendations of specific vendors?
