I could never afford the wig that you have on that’s real hair not many in this global economic climate could afford to pay that on a wig that’s my food bill for a month 😳
I don't care if my wig looks shiny or fake, as long as i think it looks good on me, thats all that matters to me. 😊 if they ask me, i tell 'em- yep, i wear wigs. With wigs u have "total hair freedom". Then they ask me, where do i buy them? 😅
@@sheilacarter4741 you gotta remember to laugh in life, and not take everything sooooo seriously. We are only talking about fake hair here......gorgeous fake hair, but still...... there's more important things to be gaurded/uptight about in this world, than wearing wigs. ! 😘😁🤗👍
@@lopresti4559 I do agree with you. Wigs have come a long way since the 70's. I am NOW visualizing my Mom and my lovely Aunts wearing fake long wigs and long polyester gowns that they sewed themselves for an upcoming relative's wedding. Now mind you this was the 70's, even though polyester is yuk today, they all looked "Glam" and with horned rimmed glasses to boot! This is kinda a time-warp comment as I'm still on topic with "wigs". My Mother became and excellent seamstress, she sewed most of our pre-teen year clothing and at the time the schoolyard bully's would make fun of us. Long story short. My Mother sewed drapery for 4 star hotels and Mr. Harold Schafer. Selecting wigs were not her "forte" and wigs have come a long way! Polyester fabric doesn't make the runways, but my Mom, fake wig/polyester dress and other childhood memories still brings a melancholy smile. It is wise advise... You gotta remember to laugh in life. Amen.
yeh sweetie true im 60 a woman menopausal my hair has receeded and ive got deep frown lines i cant afford to get them done tried so hard with foundation to cover my frownies so last yr august i saw ladygodiva wigs i thought i will buy one glad i did the wig i got was to small but it had a great frindge (bangs ) as there called i took it apart sewed it onto a headband and it looks good its boosted my confidence back up it was real hair wig it was blonde i dyed it pearl grey as my hairs grey told a woman about it she said i wouldnt of known it was a wig til u told me so ladies get yourself a wig saves on foundation an lines in your forehead i love my wigs i,l keep wearing them til i pass away lol ☺❤👍👵💐
I got a cheaper wig that was too dense. I bought some thinning shears and watched some videos on how to make it look better. Thinning shears are super helpful.
The number one thing, by miles, that makes a wig look fake, is our sensitivity and our fear that other people will see us as wearing a wig. And so we convince ourselves that our wig looks fake, when nobody is actually giving us a second glance.
Enjoy your wigs..to hell what folks MIGHT say..if YOU are satisfied, and think u look GREAT..is all that matters. Accept yourself and others will too. 😢Tricotillomania as a teen tried to shape me..but I am MORE than my hair!
TBH, other than wig wearers, or maybe if the wig is _really_ wiggy, I don’t think people look that closely to try and determine if someone is wearing a wig or not. Most people aren’t that observant. As long as the wig has a modicum of natural coloring and style, I think people don’t give it a thought. It’s those of us who focus on those details who notice the most. 😉
Absolutely! I’ve been in the modelling world my whole life and I can tell you that every client, designer and modelling agency that’s ever signed me has NEVER thought twice about my hair being a wig! When I tell them (if I tell them), they’re always shocked. The worst critics are wig wearers. People who don’t wear wigs and who are not familiar with them typically have no idea if the wig has some dimensional colour, etc! I absolutely agree with you 😊
TLDR: wore cheap wig that I thought was obvious to a family get together at perceptive grandma's house, no one noticed. Definitely. I wore a wig to my grandma's house after shaving my head (tryed to thin it at home, bad idea) and she is Jewish and strongly prefers I stay natural. I had pretty long hair before shaving it, so the length chang wasn't to drastic. After I had been there for about half and hour and all the food was set out and ready I ended up taking the wig off because it was getting in my mouth while I was trying to eat, and my grandma started looking at me in shock, and said if I had left it on and not said anything, she wouldn't have been any the wiser🤣 she said it was a really nice wig and I did a great job putting it on, which was a shock to me, being that this was my first time wearing a wig, and looked VERY obviously like a wig to me, yet I was at a party with about ten family members, and none of them noticed. Now keep in mind these were family members that would generally notice even the smallest of changes, so I was shocked, I thought it looked horrendous🤣🤣🤣
@@kittenslitteone8269 Love this story!!! I love to explain this to people that truly- the worst critics are wig wearers themselves, and the majority of people don't notice, and won't notice it's a wig because they are not accustomed to seeing wigs or thinking about wigs =)
I once bought a 200% density wig, and I am a person with a lot of thick hair. And I can tell you 200 % is way way too much, but what people don't realize with that amount, is that it is also very heavey and very very hot to wear.. I prefer 130% despite my normal hair being way thicker. It just feels lighter and still looks amazing. Just my thoughts.
When my hair is long I literally shave away half of it bc it’s too thick otherwise, when it’s short I shave about a quarter of it. Im SO glad to know about the wig density thing! I too wish they’d measure synthetics this way. I’ve been getting into wigs over the last few years & I have a few lace fronts that I love, however, even they are so thick and long I don’t wear them a ton! I think giving them a cut would be worth my time.

I’m very petite but I’m about 5’6”. My bones and my head and my body are tiny. But I’m also 75 yrs old. I live alone..have a few health issues..and my hair is thinning. I thought I’d be long gone by now (life, at times, has been full of challenges, unpredictabilities and loss of loved ones from a very early age…heart issues)…but I’m not. I’m not being morbid..I think I care too much and I was only child, single parent, helped raise all 5 of my grandkids (who are all grown up..don’t live close..and have families of their own). Love my 3 new great grand babies. That smell. Baby smell and puppy breath..always tug at my heartstrings. I love animals too. Am caring for several outside critters. I don’t socialize much.. chronic fatigue and auto immune health issues .. I’m used to that. I’m grateful I’ve helped my family and got to foster/adopt so many shelter animals. Worked a hectic job too for many many years. No child support. My head is tiny. In photos ….my family laughs at me and calls me peanuthead. I know they love me. My critters do too. I’d like an affordable wig…I’m kind low on funds…but could never afford human hair..and need low density. I’ve always worn my hair in an angled bob..kinda blond..now with white highlights…and I don’t go to beauty salons. Always did my own hair…trying to save money. Now my hair is about shoulder length but I wear it up in a hair clip..my bun is getting smaller and smaller. I’d love an angled cut little longer bob..not super short…maybe like with honey blond and light highlights. Afraid of the itchiness and my skin is sensitive. Always wear a part on left side. Any idea how I could afford a decent looking wig that wouldn’t make me look like I’m wearing fake hair? Sorry for the long ramble. Appreciate your videos. You’re adorable. I love that you’re tiny…like me…and you help with all the info you provide. You’re so super young tho. Just found your channel this week. Hugs and love. 💫❤️✌🏻 Thanks much.

I would search for other videos like this one of people trying on wigs from Amazon, maybe, enter the year & "Trying on Amazon wigs" or "wig haul, Amazon" in your search. I hope this helps. Be well.
I had a Rachel Welch wig with the knots bleached or lightened to the color of the highlights. My own family could not believe I was wearing a wig. It was a great wig!
Some good tips Steph I prefer something as natural as possible. Also excessive shine looks wiggy I think lots of wigs have too much hair particularly on the hairline 💖
I can’t care what others think. If people who are not close family or friends get so close to my face as to pick apart my hair--that’s a big problem. Family and friends don’t care.
My own hair is a very short pixie and an amazing silver but I like to play with a variety of wig colours and do something different. I have to be very careful to use a root cover powder on my lil' white sideburns because nothing screams wig like sideburns a completely different shade than the wig.
I’m a very small framed person as well and the density thing is a real issue. It would be great if they’d measure density with synthetic wigs like they do with real hair.
I used to have the density problem but I started cutting my own wigs. So if they're too dense now I just thin them out with thinning shears and make it the density I want 😊
Some sites do have density labeled on synthetic wigs. My favorite brand is Chelsey smith cosmetics, she makes nice wigs for big and small heads (my head is huge lol)
Wigs look best when properly fitted and cut well! That is all you need to know. Wigs are easy! You look pretty in all your Wigs! Lace Wigs are comfortable. I used to work in a Wigs shop! I buy loose hair and have hand sewed several pretty ones! Thank you!
Wow! That is so cool you've hand sewed them yourself! I would absolutely love to make a wig one day =) And you're absolutely right!!! Learning how to adjust any wig to suit your style/head is so important and allows you to have so many options =) Thank you for your lovely comment! XO
I wear hair pieces because I have alopecia, I also have to use color powder at the hair line all around. The shine is a problem for me, so I’ve found that dry shampoo spray helps with shine issues.
I have alopecia also, and I've been wearing wigs for over 15 yrs. But I can't ever get them styled like I see others do. Like gluing down a full lace front. I've tried many times, and the baby hairs 🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️
Hello fellow Torontonian! Thank you for your content! I love the lace fronts you show. I wish I could buy a lace front human hair, but alas. I'm 67 and live on government pension. My hair started falling out during my divorce (not a fun time) in the 2008. It hasn't recovered much, and what I have is impossibly thin.. I started wearing wigs. The trials and tribulations!! Long story short, I can only afford cheap Amazon wigs.. So it's been a struggle trying to make them not look horribly fake. Your wigs always look incredibly good and real. I always buy banged wigs, due to, as you say, the hard front. What I've learned to do to make them look better is to 1) pluck the hairline to make it more uneven and natural, 2) cut and layer the hair. There are many videos on this. For me the bangs are important, so I often will cut into the longer hair beside the bangs to blend them into the layered hair. 3) i buy wigs that are heat tolerant enough to take my bangs away from my forehead, or get them to go to the side eetc. I also blow some height away from the crown. So I do heat, then cold, so it sets. You can also do the baby powder thing to take away shine. I'd never wear a wig straight out of the package. Maybe this can help someone who also needs to buy cheap Amazon wigs!
@15Beaches I have some Jon Renau toppers, brown hair with blonde highlights, cut professionally in a short bob, good condition, that I was about to donate as I am changing colors. I'm also in Toronto, let me know by replying here if you want me to send them to you. They are synthetic, lace front.
you will be better off getting wigs at a proper wig store, K laba or Clore is where I shop, and many are under $35, you get points, and they have real stores with very well trained staff to help you. Another thing is if you have any insurance, or are on low income, you can get one wig per year paid for, so long as your doctor writes a prescription. I can tell you also that almost all women experience all over thinning by age 63 and up, so yes stress can precipitate it, but its gonna happen anyway. Wigs are great, I just started, and my husband loves it! I am blonde one day, or red the next, and I get ready so much faster!
@@michelehogan7868 I just saw this now! Thank you so much for your offer, I hope you found someone in need! Unortunately I don't have enough hair for toppers! But I wanted to say thank you anyway 😊
Keep in mind that any wig can look fake/wiggy, HH or Synthetic and sometimes it's not based on price. For me it's the hairline, the part and density. If the hair has too much hair it always looks fake to me. ,If you can see a defined part it looks natural and if the hair can be lifted off the face with a natural looking growth line and the lace is invisible (melts into your forehead HD Lace or good Swiss lace), then it's a winner. Natural density is important and even more so if you're in the 30+ age. Hairstyles have changed over the years and the Synth wig industry are not really keeping up with the new trends. Decent Synthetic wigs in canada run at least 500 and last 3months with daily wear and a HH good quality will cot 2500 and last 2 years+ but will need color refresh and lots of good care. I wear HH wigs but have seen tons of HH wigs that look wiggy in the 2k-5k price range. I find that Synthetic wigs giveaway is that they are shiny hair and I've tried the dry shampoo trick as well. Synths are itchy, tangle easily if the hair shaft if fine / heat friendly and being a petite the choices are slim and that is my largest downfall to purchasing Synthetic wigs. Fit is important to me!!! . I have seen some nice ones though but not in my size and lots of short styles with the old lady look. I just ordered a new one last night the Cameron lite from watching lots of reviews and will give synths another go. I'm not a HH snob, I just haven't found one I like. HH wigs lose their color and blondes get brassy quite quickly and need color updates even when the hair is great quality. If you're a brunette or black you have it easy in both categories. In summary, natural density, hairline and part line is important in either HH or in Synthetic.
She looks Fantastic! Unfortanetly, if you read the recent reviews (online store), people complain about the quality is not the same as it was couple years ago. :(
All good points. For me the lack of dimensional color, excess shine, too much volume AND looking too perfect are all giveaways. Many expensive wigs look 'fake' because no one has hair that perfect! I appreciate lace fronts in theory but personally do not like them. I prefer to pull some bio hair out at the hairline and even pull it back and secure it. I find if I wear something that kind of looks like my hair I feel more confident, and that is a big part of it too.
VERY HELPFUL! I was hoping you were wearing a wig because it looks so fantastic! The idea that you have a wig on would not even have crossed my mind if it weren’t for the fact that this is a video about wigs 😊
Hi. I'm happy that your videos showed up when I googled alopecia and wigs. I've learned more in the last few hours, watching your videos, than I have from stylists and hair system businesses.
Dead giveaways are overly shiny plastic hair fiber, or a wig that lacks any dimension in coloration. The hairline can also be a dead giveaway if too straight across or too low/high in placement.
What a smart review. This is something that I always look for myself as I have a petite face and if I really like a wig, I end up taking it to my hairstylist to thin it out because a lot of volume looks so fake.. and it’s such a shame where lovely ladies don’t know this because to me anyway, I can instantly tell what’s a wig if they don’t use these tips! I do have good hair, but I love to change up my look, so I never go for lace front wigs because I always bring part of my bang out in the front and honestly no one ever knows that it’s actually a wig. And congratulations !!
the better wig manufacturers like Ellen Wille and several others do have a good selection of Low Density wigs, I have a small face and never had thick hair, so all regular wigs look ridiculous on me. but the Low Density wigs, and my fave that I wear often is Natalie by this brand.
Thank you so so much 💜 I do like her a lot. Especially when I want a lot of volume. She does have A LOT of hair, so sometimes I find it a bit overwhelming, but for the most part I like her =)
I know what you mean, my head circumference is 21 and My wrist's are 6 inches. My hair used to be very fine but I had a fair amount of it. Now it's thin. I don't look good with a lot of hair especially around my face.
I enjoyed this and I would also add that shiny wigs are a huge giveaway, even from a distance. The realism of the fibers is one of my top must haves and this is why I always buy heat friendly
Too much shine and too much hair. That's especially true for older people, we don't have thick dense hair. I did when I was young, very thick, but now it is thinning.
Looks amazing! In future would you mind showing us more of the back and sides of the wig. Many thanks for your fantastic advice and gorgeous wigs! Thank you so much!!! 😁
This was so helpful! I'm a 65 yo brunette, and I perform on stage. I need a dark wig that looks real, but is easy to care for and wear. I'm thinking of purchasing a "practice" wig to just get used to it. Thank you.
I recently bought my first wig. Don’t even know how to wear it, how to take care of it, I know nothing about wigs but i know i wanted to try! And obviously when you live in a small town, people know you. So, they’ll know i have a wig since i usually have short hair. Frankly, i don’t care. I want to have fun and not limit myself. Done that for way too long already! 😂
I started to wear wigs and I live in a small town. I had to push myself out the door. Few people I know I told them it was a wig when they said where I did my hair and anyone else I just say thank you. There are videos about how to wash them and take care of them. It’s not hard to do. Amazon has good products.
Super helpful. Im thinking of getting my first and I def. Want a low density one. Can't go from so thin to Hollywood hair. I just don't want the attention, I want to feel confident and have fun. Also, I always saw the "bleached roots" frase in the descriptions but had no idea what that meant. Thank you!
I think that shadow shaded blonde wigs look the most natural. Too much shine is easy to deal with by using dry shampoo. Unfortunately I don’t look good as a blonde. Although I now have white hair, I can still wear brown wigs if I choose. To me, though, they are the most difficult to get right (not fake). There are a few nice blends, but they are usually quite warm, when my own hair was a cool-tone brown. Lace front wigs do look the most natural if you don’t wear bangs.
Yes density is important. Even ppl who aren't petite like you, and are say large, generally still look better w less density than too much. Also knots will be visible along a part back to the crown and the ppl who might notice those are generally ppl taller than the wig wearer and also the younger someone is their vision has a better chance to allow them to see the knots.
You are correct. Tall can notice if you are short but most of us over 50 will not be able to see knots. They can never correct vision to what it was before menopause or when young.
I'm a retired RN and remember going into a patients room on morning rounds. I walked around the bed by the window(the light was dim). The patient had left her old wig on the window sill and it made me jump in fright cause it looked like an animal. The patient was still asleep and didn't see me jump.
@@dmariewalker6880 yes, it was a sweet little old black lady and it was hard to tell how old the wig was. It was too much trouble to wear in the bed. Ask any nurse. We have a lot of tales to tell.
I think the more salon-perfect a piece appears, the less realistic it might look!? I suppose most of us are always dealing with a bit that won't lie flat or looks frizzy or uneven. Wigs have that uniform perfection that real hair doesn't, perhaps? I like the one you have on, btw. Great that someone is addressing this socially taboo topic. These days I think a lot of people have hair density issues they don't know how to treat due to unknown nutritional deficiencies created by intensive farming (mineral poor foods), stress and medications. I nearly lost half of mine to low iron stores, caused by a common antacid medication.
G*visc*n Jenny? My Mum also. Prescribed for a so called hernia, in reality it was a combo of allergic reactions upsetting her digestion. However she would take the medicine in good faith three or four times daily. It was forming a lining on her stomach so vitamins & minerals could not be absorbed.
I really liked your low key approach yet clear explanations and good advice for wig wearers. Can you mention the names of those wigs you showed? I have ordered wigs from Amazon in the past and they are fine for every day wear. Dead give away for us wig wearers…forgetting that itching your head will make your wig move around!🤣
🤣 I forgot that one!!!!! Itching your head does make your wig move!! Hehhe 🤭💕 Yes, the wigs I showed/mentioned in the video are linked in the description box below the video 💕 The Amazon wig is also linked 🥰 Hope you have a wonderful day, Diane!! ❤️
You look amazing in that wig! I would never have guessed! Thanks for the advice on what to look for in a wig. Personally I love, love, love dressing up and I have been thinking of adding wigs/hair pieces to my ensemble.
Oh I have that same wig you showed from Amazon! It's my favorite thing to throw on really quick. I actually have two of them because I liked it so much!
I think it’s important to note, synthetic wigs can not have bleached knots. The blonde hair helps disguise the hair line but that is not realistic for brunette wig wearers. Synthetic wigs, especially dark wigs, will have knots.
Thank you for saying that about unrooted wigs. I’m a natural blonde (wheat color) that turned white at 60. Pure White. But it’s gotten thin as heck. I bought and returned 4 rooted wigs because reviewers kept saying that they look more natural. They just looked weird on me. Then when I found a white silver unrooted wig was when I realized that rooting doesn’t work on me.
I have very course curly hair which can look fantastic ..but is a daily challenge. It's hi lighted it do much fun but too much Maintenance. Now I have breakage too. So, a wig is in the post. I'm considering having my hair cut and wearing wigs daily. It's a huge step. But at 59 I want to feel good every day ..not just occasionally. Life is NOW..today. Life is challenging for us all and my hair brings me great joy and feeling good is up there and important. It's about confidence. Love the Wig community and I am a new member...
Some of the best advice I have heard on here. I to am about the same as you. I try for less because more just looks fake on me. Small face tiny wrists and smaller bones. Weigh about 145 at 5 ' 5. I use only toppers but stay in the same numbers. Also menopause has thinned my already thin hair. So don't want anything heavy. Just have fun.
Almost all Brunette wigs from major brands have dark knots that look terrible. I haven’t found any synthetic brunettes with pre-bleached knots. Any advice?
I also am new & very close to ordering my first wig or topper. How do I know if I want or need a full on wig, a topper or clip in extensions. I’m 66 , still getting blonde w/ darker definition weaves. Before anything happens for me…with subscribing, will I get help from you? Do I need to FaceTime & show you who I am?What I look like?? I’m waiting for payday (1) day away!
African Americans have the best wig hair lines which looks so natural, why can’t wig companies offer such wigs to us? Plus many human hair wigs look so fake, I would never spend close to that much for one & I’ve had one before & the up keep just not worth the price.
Take a look at Michele’s Hair Closet, I love every HH wig from there. Great quality hair, lasts 2 years with keratin conditioner. She’s wonderful to work with. Thinning shears are great, if you prefer less density.
So. For the segment about the shadow root at the end of the video. What if I technically HAD hair, but I kept it buzz cut all the time? Would I still need to worry about that, or as long as the wig is close to my hair color will it look ok? I'm dealing with male pattern baldness and so I'll eventually be bald on top and in the back, but until then I'm gonna go with a buzz cut and just wear wigs outside.
Hair and wigs aside, you have the most beautiful, flawless skin. (Please wear sunscreen!) I was looking for information about wigs because my best friend has just been diagnosed with cancer and I found you. Thanks for all the info!
Thanks for the tips. I only wear a wig to do a Marilyn tribute, so I try to learn the best way to style it and make it look real although its very blonde so it would not be my choice if I wore a everyday wig. Its a lace front
I have a small head but broad shoulders. I notice that dense or bigger hair makes my frame looks smaller so what you’re saying is definitely on the mark. Sometimes layers help with the density so it can still have volume without looking like a helmet.
A question: I have some grays, not many, sprinkled throughout my natural hair and would love to recreate that in my hairpieces. Just a few though--not more gray than brown. Any ideas, please say yes, on how I can make that happen?
Can you incorporate your own hair into the hairline? If so, get a wig with some ashy blonde/silver highlights and pull out the hair all along hairline at top and sides. I always cut the ear tabs off. Use a cap with no lace, but a monofilament top will help it to look more natural.
Ohhhh THANK YOU for this video!! I wish I’d seen it a few days ago, before I placed my order for my 1st wig lol. Maybe I can wear my full cap wig with a headband or scarf to cover the hard line..🤞🏼
What an interesting and informative video. Thank you for sharing. And I especially appreciated the comment about the "shadow" roots. Never heard of that beefore.
Fyi petite means short, not thin. So you can't be tall and petite. I used to get confused anout that when i was a kid. Your wig you have on is amazing and looks real
Thank you! 😊 As for “petite” lol, my mom uses the word interchangeably in our family, so I use it that way too. Call it personality or call it incorrect lol, I hope others understood the meaning ❤️
I just had a terrible experience with a wig/hair replacement shop. She didn’t seem to have command over her own skill set yet looked like she’d had the shop for a long time. She couldn’t tell off the bat just by looking at a topper how long in inches it was. She just wanted to sell the wigs in her shop and didn’t seem too interested in looking at different skill cap sizes, lengths or anything. I’m seeing three more shop and I will compare.
I’m actually more concerned about wig looking like there is not enough hair. I already have that problem with my own hair. Throwing on a wig that will look like I’m balding is not something I want to do. Wigs are super expensive for the type of hair that I want and they don’t offer an option to return if I don’t like it. I kind of fear throwing away $1000+ just to end up with something flat and sparse.
@@joditappan1797check the numbers That shows how much thickness the wig or topper is. Lowest think is about 110/ 120 they go up to about 200 called wig density you can ask Google it has lots of info for you on wig density.

I just bought my first wig because I wanted to be blonde again and not bleach my real hair since I have dark brown. It has a large shadow root fade into blonde.I did buy off temu for fun when I go to California. The only problem is that it has such a thick butterfly bang. I'm hoping to thin them out. Otherwise, wigs are fun for sure😊
Im finding that the blonde wigs really look fake..so frustrating...many are brassy non flattering...the color your wearing is nice..although the synthetic wig your wearing is nice...but new that it was a wig immediately
Have you tried Godivas Secret Wigs? They are very nice & natural looking. The wig in this video looked like natural short hair freshly styled not at all wiggy.
I want to start wearing wigs because I like having colorful hair but I can never pick one color. I always wear a headband across my hairline anyway, so it looks like most of these issues won't affect me.
I am a natural brunette and wear brunette/darker wigs. I find it difficult to hide the hairline knots in these darker colors. I have purchased some of the same wigs you have featured in other videos, but because I purchase a brunette shade, those pesky knots are there in front, especially at the front part. Any suggestions on how to deal with this?
I have bought many a bad wig that looks super fake on me lol. And for every purchase I've upgraded to higher and higher quality. My first wig was a very nasty, cheap thing from a costume store. Don't think I even paid $10 for it. My second and third wigs were a bit higher quality synthetic hair, but a "hard cap" with no bangs, and they still felt and looked a lot like Barbie hair after having been worn for a bit. Costed maybe $15. The 4th and 5th wigs I got were actually great quality synthetic hair and lace front, but only a tiny bit of lace so I can't change the parting to be anything but a middle part or just swept back, unless I literally tip the wig to the side (yes I've done that for a side part, don't judge me lol) and costed roughly $35. But I rarely wear any of these wigs despite loving the idea of wearing wigs, because the synthetic hair always itches on my neck and face in a way my real hair never would have, when long. So now I'm looking into buying my first human hair wig, hoping it'll be more comfortable, and also possible to dye/bleach. I'm really hooked on the red to blonde balayage look and it's nearly impossible to find an already made wig in that exact color, and I really can't afford getting something custom made, but I'm pretty good at dyeing and bleaching hair myself. So I'm looking at a light red human hair wig with a big lace front area, but I wanted to make sure it's a good buy before purchasing it, because it's cheap for a human hair wig ($170.) Because yeah, I want it to look natural. Like it was my real hair, just somehow magically longer, fuller and with a complete hairline so I won't have to wear headbands and spend hours styling it to make it look half decent. That's why I want it in the exact same color combination I keep my real hair and have kept in for years, and why I'm so picky about that. That said, most wigs are higher quality than my real hair at this point lmao. I hope it won't be too damaging to bleach just the lower half of a light red wig, as that's kinda close to blonde already, although I'm aware I'd have no idea how much a wig has been dyed, bleached and otherwise processed previously, as that would affect how much (more) processing it can handle. Would be great to know, but I've never come across any such info on any wigs I've seen in webshops. So... I guess I'd just be careful and hope for the best. I can also easily thin out a wig if it's too thick. I did that with one of my higher quality synthetics and it turned out great, but yeah I wouldn't wanna buy a crazy thick wig only to have to cut away half of it. That would feel wasteful. The one I'm considering has 130 density, so it's good to know now that's on the thinner side! I do wanna be a little bit careful with buying human hair wigs though, because that's hair some real person gave up or lost for I dunno what reasons. I want to be respectful of that, where it comes from. So if I buy such a wig, I'd want to for it to be something I can wear for a long time and take good care of, to honor its source. Sorry for the long rant. I appreciate your advice, it's very good and solid! And great that you showed examples as well. I learned a few more things.
YAY!!!! A Canadian!! I’m so happy to have you here 😍 thanks for saying hello!! Where abouts in Canada are you? I’m over in Toronto. Moving to Calgary soon!
Steph, can you tell me how you make your Simmer wig last for two years? I wear Simmer every day too, but find that they only last a few months. I would love your tips and tricks, and what you do on a daily basis to keep it looking so fresh. Thank you!
hey!!! Of course!! Honestly, it's all in the way that I refresh my Simmer wig. (I.e. how I wash Simmer, and then put heat back into her). I'm going to link some of my other videos that I made to show people exactly how I do this incase you haven't seen it yet. That's literally all I do. and then at the end of every day, I make sure to use a detangling spray (I'm currently using the one by Jon Renau; it's called "Maintain") and my wide tooth comb, and I comb threw getting all of her tangles out (if any). When I need to, I will use the Simply Stylin' Silicone Spray to put that extra "gloss" back into it (but not to over-do it because otherwise she'll get a little greasy lol)... But the biggest secret is the way I wash her and put heat back into her. That's how I do it and keep all my HF wigs lasting. I have watched a few... The one with you & your Mom 😊 and the one with your husband ❣️. I loved them. Dan was great 🤭 he knows what he likes 😉🤭. Steph you are so cute I think you could wear a string mop and it will look good. I'll be 👀 😁 I will definitely be watching your other videos!! ❤
Question for all you lovely people who purchase wigs and hairpieces: Would you want to use an app that finds and compares the best prices on wigs and hairpieces?
This was so helpful thank you! I have been wearing wigs for about a year now, and really feel like I am just learning about them. I am going to have to go over more of your video's. Thank you!
Love the wig you’re wearing by Raquel Welsh. I also want a low density wig, I have measured my head for a proper fit but, not sure if I should order petite size or average. Could you share with us what your measurement’s are, so we get an idea of what size we should be ordering and what size is your wig? I'm a 21 1/4 circumference. 13 Front to nape and 13 ear to ear.
Hi, I wear wigs, just got pixie cut wig with shadow bio, its human hair, social media sys the pixie style wig looks good on me, I myself have small head, sometimes I wear wig cap depending on the size and volume, wearing wigs cuts down on coloring hair, and salon costs and the hair style you want.

Where can I go to get my wig style, cut and purchased in CA.?
I like you and the video. It does weird me out that you refer to a wig as she and not it. It's hard to get past.
I could never afford the wig that you have on that’s real hair not many in this global economic climate could afford to pay that on a wig that’s my food bill for a month 😳
That wig looks so good and realistic on you!!! Beautiful!!!!❤❤❤❤❤
I don't care if my wig looks shiny or fake, as long as i think it looks good on me, thats all that matters to me. 😊 if they ask me, i tell 'em- yep, i wear wigs. With wigs u have "total hair freedom". Then they ask me, where do i buy them? 😅
That is an amazing attitude to have!!!
Where do you buy them?
I got a cheaper wig that was too dense. I bought some thinning shears and watched some videos on how to make it look better. Thinning shears are super helpful.
Hi. I just cut bangs into a headband wig. Watched utube. What an education
I just learned how to use thinning shears on my new topper on yt vid as well. It works 😊
The number one thing, by miles, that makes a wig look fake, is our sensitivity and our fear that other people will see us as wearing a wig. And so we convince ourselves that our wig looks fake, when nobody is actually giving us a second glance.
That's very true. Also If you usually constantly touch and adjust, then that is a dead giveaway!
I absolutely agree with you 😊
I can tell a wig a mile away, and I’m not looking for it… I just notice! I’m super observant.
@@notesc821 - Congratulations, here’s a cookie 🍪
Amazing!! Thank you for your comment 🤗❤️ this is how I feel too!!
@@LaceyMyriahmy mom had a salon friend cut her wigs for her personal preferences & style... this was many many years ago when there weren't the choices there is today...

Yes..dimensional color with darker roots are more realistic ❤ Shawdow roots are preferable
I completely agree...hair density makes a huge difference in how realistic it looks.
The unit you're wearing is giving rich-woman-old-money-vibes, loves it!!
YES! Great tips, Clara!! 100% agree with you! 💜
@@WigsWithStephcan I use dry shampoo powder to make it less shiny ? Or is it bad to have too much product on it ?

Which Rachel Welch are you wearing?
I can’t care what others think. If people who are not close family or friends get so close to my face as to pick apart my hair--that’s a big problem. Family and friends don’t care.
My own hair is a very short pixie and an amazing silver but I like to play with a variety of wig colours and do something different. I have to be very careful to use a root cover powder on my lil' white sideburns because nothing screams wig like sideburns a completely different shade than the wig.
Absolutely!!! Love this, Susan!! Thank you so much for sharing 💓
Please remember that when “bio hair starts greying”, it first happens at the temples, front hair line, so what you’re saying isn’t always true.
I’m a very small framed person as well and the density thing is a real issue. It would be great if they’d measure density with synthetic wigs like they do with real hair.
Absolutely!! I agree!! ❤️
They do
I used to have the density problem but I started cutting my own wigs. So if they're too dense now I just thin them out with thinning shears and make it the density I want 😊
i always look for wigs under 3 oz.Vogue wigs always has the weight on their wigs.
I'm with you. I used to wear wigs for fun, now I have to wear them for necessity. Just a part of life, unfortunately.
I cannot agree with you more. Thank you. You probably saved a lot of women money and returns.😊
The wig you have on looks so natural in every way. It doesn't appear to have a lot of hair sticking up and flying around and doesn't look shiny.
Thanks for the advice. I would have liked to see the other wig on you as a comparison.
When I was young my aunt Ethel wore wigs. Very classy lady & a lot of fun! People tell me I’m like aunt Ethel & they chuckle!
I enjoyed this and I would also add that shiny wigs are a huge giveaway, even from a distance. The realism of the fibers is one of my top must haves and this is why I always buy heat friendly
Fantastic comment! Absolutely agree 👏
Too much shine and too much hair. That's especially true for older people, we don't have thick dense hair. I did when I was young, very thick, but now it is thinning.
Godiva Secret is a great, reasonably priced store. Lots of color choice
I actually prefer the standard cap. More lift or tease at the crown
Use dry shampoo to cut the shine and thin wig with thinning shears
Good for you be yourself and have fun. We women try to please others way to long. Time to please yourself. They will be envious if anything
Thank you!
Elle Willie makes them, they are a German company. Bought 2 of them today
I found a dead giveaway is when the lace-top or lace-part has a very coarse textured mesh on top. The holes are very visible.
But you could wear a beautiful gray or silver wig, correct?
Unreal vid Stephanie, so much information, and the off/on part was amazing. Well done, you're the best. ❤
Your natural hair looks beautiful. The colour is lovely and you look younger
I'm a retired RN and remember going into a patients room on morning rounds. I walked around the bed by the window(the light was dim). The patient had left her old wig on the window sill and it made me jump in fright cause it looked like an animal. The patient was still asleep and didn't see me jump.
LOL!
LOL! I found my cat playing with my wig on the floor!
Old wig? Really?
@@dmariewalker6880 yes, it was a sweet little old black lady and it was hard to tell how old the wig was. It was too much trouble to wear in the bed. Ask any nurse. We have a lot of tales to tell.
@bonnieweeks7601, people r never at their best when sick or in the hospital so I hope u keep most of those tales to yourself
Actually it's SCRATCHING the itchy head makes the wig move
You look amazing in that wig! I would never have guessed! Thanks for the advice on what to look for in a wig. Personally I love, love, love dressing up and I have been thinking of adding wigs/hair pieces to my ensemble.
Oh I have that same wig you showed from Amazon! It's my favorite thing to throw on really quick. I actually have two of them because I liked it so much!
That’s amazing!! 😍 I love it too!!! Makes it so easy :)
Does it stay on well in strong winds?
I think it’s important to note, synthetic wigs can not have bleached knots. The blonde hair helps disguise the hair line but that is not realistic for brunette wig wearers. Synthetic wigs, especially dark wigs, will have knots.
Absolutely! Thank you for mentioning that =)
Thank you for saying that about unrooted wigs.
Light density wigs are perfect formula for a natural look! 💖💖💖
How do you wear it in the water when swimming? Do you glue it?
HI Friends!!! 🤗 Did I miss anything major? What do you think is a DEAD Giveaway that it's a wig? 💕 Thank you for your comments XO
Hair is too shiny. Looks like plastic.
@@auapplemac2441 Yep, that would be number 1!
@@auapplemac2441 Doesn't dry shampoo work for you?
Lack of movement in some wigs is a real look killer
I’m petite as well and have purchased a wig in the past that completely overwhelmed me
Some of the best advice I have heard on here.
Any advice?
Can you review toppers that are real hair? Im new to this and have been disappointed by RW wigs...you have alot of hair...great video
I DO WISH PEOPLE WOULD SAY IF THE WIGS ARE LARGE - THAT IS WHAT I NEED. THANK YOU.
African Americans have the best wig hair lines which looks so natural, why can’t wig companies offer such wigs to us? Plus many human hair wigs look so fake, I would never spend close to that much for one & I’ve had one before & the up keep just not worth the price.
Give Freedom Couture a try. They’re African/Italian owned and they’re a luxury human hair company out of Australia. Their hairlines are outstanding 👍
Take a look at Michele’s Hair Closet, I love every HH wig from there. Great quality hair, lasts 2 years with keratin conditioner. She’s wonderful to work with. Thinning shears are great, if you prefer less density.
All the wigs looks beautifully on this girl. Very pretty .
I thought that was your real hair!!! Wow! Beautiful! And very informative and simple!
Get on minoxidil and/or a dht blocker. They work
Hair and wigs aside, you have the most beautiful, flawless skin. (Please wear sunscreen!) I was looking for information about wigs because my best friend has just been diagnosed with cancer and I found you. Thanks for all the info!
Hiii! Welcome!! :)
Thank you so much for the kind compliment- I do wear sunscreen every day 🤗❤️
Every time the root looks different than the main colour it always looks better imo it gives more dimension and shade to it
Thanks for the tips.
@@cherylj7460 Thank you! Love good ideas, I'll try it.
Have you tried godivas secret wigs? They have several subtle gray hair wigs.
Always have too much SHINE! My hair is black, and dark wigs are just plain shiny!🙄😡
Hit it with some dry shampoo, that’ll buffer the shine. 😉
Thank you for your comment ❤️
If I had watched this years ago, I would have saved a lot of money not buying bad wigs.
Fyi petite means short, not thin. So you can't be tall and petite. I used to get confused anout that when i was a kid. Your wig you have on is amazing and looks real
Thank you! 😊
As for “petite” lol, my mom uses the word interchangeably in our family, so I use it that way too. Call it personality or call it incorrect lol, I hope others understood the meaning ❤️
I didn't think it was a wig until you told us.
You are perfect. Is that a wig you are wearing now? I was looking at you so much, I never saw the boxes. Cute voice, great narration.
I really don’t like permatease being a small frame can you mention that too no poof etc thank you great reviews ❤
@notsonice7633 I couldn’t agree more. Great reality check
What’s the answer?
@@joditappan1797check the numbers
That shows how much thickness the wig or topper is. Lowest think is about 110/ 120 they go up to about 200 called wig density you can ask Google it has lots of info for you on wig density.
Also you’re really giving marlyn in this video! ❤
Thank you for the tips they were really helpful. Btw, your wig looks beautiful and natural. 🙂
Looks great but I immediately recognized it as a wig. But after all, I am a pro, others dont see it 😂👍👍👍💐❤️
You and your personality are as adorable as they come 😊
OMG you have been so helpful. I want to buy a wig for the first time and I don't know where to start. What company to do you recommend?
Hey!! 🤗 I’ve been getting my synthetic wigs from Wigs.com because they carry all the brands I love, they ship worldwide and they have excellent customer service & returns! That’s who I’d recommend. Check out some of my review videos if you’re searching for a wig! I explain the cap constructions and talk about what’s good for certain people, etc.
AND if you do end up getting something from their site, make sure to use my discount code to get some money off!! The code is “STEPH25”
Hope this helps 💕🥹❤️
Can you swim in a wig? If so, what's the prep for it and keeping it on. Sounds terrifying to me. And how is it wearing a wig in hot weather?
I want to start wearing wigs because I like having colorful hair but I can never pick one color.
I always wear a headband across my hairline anyway, so it looks like most of these issues won't affect me.
Where is the second wig you hold up from?

Steph, can you tell me how you make your Simmer wig
last for two years?
Here are my links below to help:

Hi, I wear wigs, just got pixie cut wig with shadow bio, its human hair, social media sys the pixie style wig looks good on me, I myself have small head, sometimes I wear wig cap depending on the size and volume, wearing wigs cuts down on coloring hair, and salon costs and the hair style you want.
