LYRICS:
Liquid Nights And Disco Lights Gavin Dunne 2019
I could be a swinging sickle
Turning to a factional nomad
I could be a friend so fickle
Or I could be the best you ever had
I could be the dull divider
Paint between the tyres on either side
I could be a gene defiler
Wishing for a head so fine and wide
Got to get, to get down
Find a rhythm to pick me up
And catch the beat of this town
What could pull me together
Got to get, to get down
Trace the bullet and sift the dust
Catch the beat of this town
What to find to feel better
The streetlights and the ravers
And my trails of misbehavior
Lost in liquid nights
And whirling disco lights
The burden of tomorrow
All the shame regret and sorrow
Lost in liquid nights
And whirling disco lights
I can't recall a thing
So why do I feel so sad?
I could be a man of money
Soaking up the sweat upon your brow
I could be less lonely honey
If I could just remember you right now
Got to get, to get down
Find a rhythm to pick me up
And catch the beat of this town
What could pull me together
Got to get, to get down
Trace the bullet and sift the dust
Catch the beat of this town
What to find to feel better
The streetlights and the ravers
And my trails of misbehavior
Lost in liquid nights
And whirling disco lights
The burden of tomorrow
All the shame regret and sorrow
Lost in liquid nights
And whirling disco lights
And I'm whirling through the half light
Shivers down my spine
Don't know what I'm becoming
But I know I'll make it mine
I can't recall a thing
So why do I feel so sad?
This was my favorite game of 2019 and I'm glad I finally found a decent song idea to pay tribute to it. Took me a few tries, ha! And yes.... FF7 is next, before you all ask :D

miracleofsound my favorite game as well and damn I loved this song too.
My big thanks to you ) Was waiting for song about this game this whole time since the release)
Awesome! Great work ^_^
Just one of your best song, i love it!
This song was so good I just got arrested for public masturbation. You're the best, Gav!
I love that the entire first part of the song is just responses to the game's tagline: "what kind of cop are you?"
“I can’t recall a thing, so why do feel so sad?” Has to be one of the most depressing and catchy lines I’ve ever heard.
This line pretty much descibes Disco Elysium
As a man who has woken up in a puddle of . . . Things with no recollection of the prior 7+ plus days before I must say I understand that feeling a little to well. Took me a while to piece together where I was and what I was running from too, the language barrier didn’t help though.

A funky dance song about feeling depressed. The perfect song for 2020.
I love how it's also very much a Gavin song and that it incorporates the game's RPG storytelling into the lyrics.
Yeah, that sums it up :D The idea was to capture a feeling of realizing that one's Disco days (i.e vibrant, carefree youth) are behind them... and the nostalgia, loss & change that comes with those feelings. Disco Elysium has some very relatable themes, haha
@@miracleofsound you have never failed to impress me . IMO you are the best music artist i have had the honor to listen to both in lyrics and singing
Hold on, Good song! But let`s not be negative! 2020 is not depressing, You are! I`m sick of all this " Blah Blah, 2020`s so bad, so sad " crap, You know i know i maybe getting the wrong idea but it`s hard with how you sound, Ya`ll need to start being positive and having hope or we`re never gonna get through this " At least right now in the world, Places are starting to open up and pollution is starting to go down! That`s 2020 right there! But look i`m trying to be sincere and does anyone get it?
@@miracleofsound You nailed it man, I feel that chorus in my soul.
@@djamtz If we can't see things for what they are, we can't make them better.
I've been thinking of how to word the way this song makes me feel for a few years now.
I've stood on the edge and tried to jump off of it before, and there's something about this song and Disco Elysium that speaks to the wounded part of me. It helped to pull me back.
According to Spotify this is my most listened to song since 2020. That worries my family a lot when I tell them that, but I just think they don't understand what it's like to feel lost in the world the way I did. It gives me a feeling like I'm not alone in my struggle.
In particular the lines "The burden of tomorrow, all the shame regret and sorrow" speak to a part of me that I wish didn't exist, and it says "You're not the first one to feel this way, others have pulled through and so will you" and I know that's a weird thing to say about a song that I've nicknamed "depression disco" but it really helped me get through tough times in these last few years.
Now I'm putting my life back together and finally feel like I have a future again. My girlfriend and I are getting married next year and are planning to have a child together. And I don't think I'd be here to say that without art like this song that helped me feel understood.
Thanks for making this, I love it dearly.
Same for me 😊 Nice that you can see your future again 👏

Ouch.
Because you know that one day, in spite of every preventative measure you've taken, that you'll end up remembering it.
You know what I'm talking about, funky baby. You just don't know it yet. Or re-know it, anyway.
But don't you worry. It'll still be there. All red, raw and blistered. Waiting for you.
It'll always hurt. 'Til the day you escape this hardcore-fucked plane of existence at long, long last.

@@zyrkugilgameshNOOOOOO, WHAT ORIGINAL COMMENT WAS ABOUT?
I only just got to play Disco Elysium and it made me realize the clever wordplay with "whirling through the half light, sends shivers down my spine"
I am aware that this is a song about a game but being an alcoholic for the majority of my 20s this tune is truly symbolic, both lyrically and melodically. The alterations in tones and the need to replay it despite it making you feel bad... Gavin you said you were having a tough time last year but you completely peaked with this. Bravo dude.
Man then you really should try Disco Elysium. It’s such a good game and I’m sure you will resonate with the protagonist. It might just be the best game for you!
Same
The game is also about being an alcoholic.
Release in 2019, and here we are in 2023. This year has the worst beginning for me, and listening to this song with all my thoughts coming is at the same time pain and calm. I always had a feeling of sort of nostalgia or a memory that have faded in my mind, the perfect song for describing my mental health actually.
I just have to say, for anyone who will find this comment, stays strong, I know things when I say life can be really bad, but you have to keep moving on, and you will be happy again, I promise.
Thank you all
Thank you!!!
How're you doing now, buddy?
This might be your best one yet Gav! What a tune! Funky yet melancholic.
Just like HDB
Oh man, I guess the break really helped, because this is one of my favorite MoS songs!
You know... I wouldn't mind blasting this song on a boat ride.
But for real, this feels like straight out of the game. It works perfectly with the rest of the soundtrack and captures the tone of Disco Elysium perfectly.
"*He* is the Musical Engine. He never stops. He only gets better."
Holy cow Gav, you really outdid yourself with this one. "Don't know what I'm becoming, but I know I'll make it mine" is such a fantastic line, it really captures the spirit of the story and the game. Plus the style. the unique clips, all of it just comes together as easily one of your best.
"Catch the beat of this town" is such a great line

I'm amazed at just how well you managed to capture the spirit of Disco Elysium. Depressing and grueling, but with a slight tint of hope in the ever-engulfing darkness. Thank you so much for this!
If this game actually does end up being made into a television show, this song would be great for its title sequence.
It’s great idea, but it might need to be rewritten for spoilers
@@LeafseasonMagbag just cut off the spoiler parts or just not show the images that give it away

Since I started the game 2 weeks ago, I have been crying on a daily basis without any outside reason. I finished in this Sunday, but the crying continues. It's honestly a weird relief to have this song to listen to now.

One thing i always loved about the podquisition back in the day when Gav was a host, was that he basically shares my exact taste in games, and it was always nice to hear someone else out there talk about RPGS in a way that resonated with me.
And it's the exactly the same with his videogame songs, you can find hundreds of youtube fan songs about minecraft, or LOL, or fortnite, or whatever else becomes the flavour of the month mainstream gaming darling- but a handful of tracks about those little RPGS I enjoy- from someone who clearly understands the tone and themes apparent in the work- just seem so much more special in comparison.
I know nothing about Disco Elysium but this is making me feel all kinds of emotions
The game itself does that.
Moreso than other games that specifically went for "causing ze emoshunz".
Right, Detroit?
@@MrFright2010 Detroit is shit compared to Disco Elysium, let's be frank. When I started the game for the first time and I heard my Reptilian Brain and Limbic System talking to me about feelings I knew so well... that changed how I felt about games right there.
This game touched my soul. I sincerely loved it and felt it through my whole being. That is a masterpiece that trespassed the "game" format and went beyond. This is a "real" thing. And your song Gavin, again - it is a miracle of sound indeed. I admire your ability to feel games and to make brilliant songs out of them. That is a gift of God. Keep it up, brother.
P.S. The piano in this song is like teardrops, when combined with funky disco tune creates the realization how Mr.Dubois is trying to pull himself together at the face of his heavy memories, sorrow and depression, focusing upon the investigation no matter the cost. I realize that his stupid follies are just a way to keep himself at bay.

Out of all your work, of which I have supped since my earliest gaming days, this one has remained the strongest to me. Funky and soulful, but poignant and grim, as well. Elysium, along with its Liquid Nights & Disco Lights, has lodged itself in my conception since 2019. I hope it never leaves.
Not played Disco Elysium yet but this song really reminded me of the days before I stopped drinking. Summed up the highs and lows fantastically and also made me go and buy the game... after listening to the song half a dozen times.
Also, the first time it came on I still had my player set to 1.5 speed. A dance/trance mix would definitely work great.

Also, have you finished it? Did you like it, did you replay it already?
