    Great content Green Aqua!
    Here are my 10 tips ….
    Tip #1 - Some other canister filters such as Fluval, Eheim, etc. can have a strong rattling noise after you clean the impellers and the rotation bay. Remove the impeller again and smear glycerine grease (preferably) or Vaseline (not ideal as it is petrochemical) onto the impeller and secure it back into position. This help reduce any friction from before and you should not hear any rattling noises again.
    Tip #2 - When removing glass lily pipes from hoses, first add a drop of water around the join and then slowly push in and pry the tubes off the glassware. Add water also when joining them back.
    Tip#3 - When cleaning inlet lily pipe and there is dirt still stuck at the bottom end, soak this part in cleaning solution for 10 minutes. Rinse and if there’s still some dirt, add 3 small decorative gravel stones into the bottom end of the lily pipe. You can swirl the lily pipe and thereby the stones around, but be careful to not the bash and break your lily pipe. The stones abrade the dirt on the inside. Repeat this as necessary, then slide the stones back out and rinse lily pipes well. Should be as new.
    Tip#4 - Clean the exterior housing of skimmers, like Eheim 350 or Oase, or lily pipes with steel wool ( the finer steel wool is best). It will not scratch the glass or hard plastics and remove stubborn algae like green spot or black beard algae. After this you can rinse and also add to cleaning solution for 5 - 10 minutes. Rinse well.
    Tip#5 - When cleaning pre filter sponges, you can use regular tap water, as these are only mechanical filtration (not biological). I prefer the pulsating spray setting on a hand shower as this thoroughly cleans the sponges fairly quickly.
    Tip#6 - If you don’t have your regular cleaning solution for glassware/lily pipe cleaning, use undiluted cleaning vinegar or a strong solution of citric acid to remove dirt and algae build up. Use bleach only if absolutely necessary if glassware, etc. have really stubborn dirt. Rinse all bleach with water first and then let sit glassware in water and Seachem Prime solution for 5 - 10 minutes, before adding back into aquarium.
    Tip#7 - Clean CO2 diffuser by keeping the CO2 running and place diffuser into a glass or container filled with cleaning solution for 25 minutes. Rinse after cleaning, same as Tip#6.
    Tip #8 - Preferably use quality cleaning tools and cleaning solution from a trusted aquarium brand before making up your own homemade tools or cleaners, as it can sometimes go horribly wrong for you. Also, test any other abrasive type cleaners on a piece of old glass or plastic first before you scratch that new and rather expensive Low iron glass aquarium.
    Tip#9 - Always have a beer handy when doing aquarium maintenance. It just works.
    Tip#10 - Enjoy and relax. Welcome the the world of aquascaping.
    😉

    Tip: when using a magnetic scraper spray water onto the external glass panel and even onto the felt panel, that way it does not jump and shudder.
    But use magnetic scrapers very carefully, eventually I scratched every tank I have ever owned with a trapped tiny bit of sand caught in the abrasive material.
    I still use one, my main planted tank is built into the wall and accessible only from the rear, and it's really almost impossible to remove algae satisfactorily any other way. A design fault I take responsibility for.

    • @jarrison6394
      @jarrison6394 2 роки тому +3

      To avoid that I use a blade scrapper (carefully) in the bottom the 4-5cm closest to the sand. From up to down, never reverse. So no sand gets in the way.
      And I use the magnet for the rest of the glass.

    My two cents: if you find impelle is making noise, unplug and plug power cord again might solve this issue, the root reason is unblanced rotor weight, cycle power couple times until you find the best balance position.

    The Oase Biomaster's are amazing cannister filters (I have a 600), however Oase need to release a new, upgraded, range that don't continually accumulate air and sporadically purge it into the aquarium in noisy bursts ! Oase have been aware of this problem for years but still haven't resolved the issue. An upgraded range of Biomaster's is overdue ....

    Great video, I was just waiting for it, another interesting video could be about the rescape of a layout that we don't like anymore.
    There can be two variants, keeping the old fund (replenishing with tablets, if exhausted), or, more complex variable, replacing the substrate in addition to the layout ...
    In my case, I would like to change the layout, keeping everything else, substrate, plants (moving them), etc etc.

    Recognizing that this video is older now, I don’t understand why Green Aqua places fine filter mesh after bio media in their filters. I understand that opinions vary on whether chemical media should be before vs. after bio because some believe the chemical filtration removes nutrients needed by the bio media. That said, there really shouldn’t be debate about mechanical filtration. It should always be before bio to ensure bio is getting the cleanest possible water. This helps prevent the bio pores from clogging to keep bacteria healthy. Also, keeping the deepest pores in bio media open is the only hope for maintaining anaerobic bacteria that can convert nitrate into free nitrogen that is more useable by plants and virtually nontoxic to fish (due to off gassing). Obviously only certain bio media is capable of maintaining anaerobic bacteria. Supposedly Seachem Matrix can but only under optimal conditions.

    Did you guys figure out how to fix the air bubbles problem with these filters. Purchased couple of these filters based on your recommendation and after 3 weeks just found out there a problem with oase filters. Tried to shake it, tilt it, clean cut hoses and tight fit. Still air bubbles. Have one more week before return policy expires. Used multiple different brands and never this happened.

      @GreenAquaShop  5 місяців тому +1

      The different pre-filters block the flow more easily than in other models. This makes for user-friendliness and convenience, but it can hurt sometimes. There's a new prefilter tube with large holes that improve the performance of the pre-filters in case you would not like to drill additional holes into that.

    I hope the Oase people watched this video and are reading the comments. The current canister filters by Oase are terrible. As shown at 2:45 (before they cut the vid) you can see how much they leak when Tommy pulls the hose connection off. He even reacts badly to it. The actual hose connectors are just garbage if you hands are slightly wet, have arthritis, or are just weaker in your grip. The connections for the inlet and outlet that come with many of the canister filters is really badly designed, especially the plastic bit that connects the hoses and hooks over the aquarium edge. It narrows and is square so clogs up in no time and is a pita to clean properly. No wonder you guys swap them out for the glass pipes.
