- French President Emmanuel Macron will be traveling to New Caledonia signalling confidence in the efforts made by authorities in quelling the unrest. However Australia and New Zealand have began evacuating nationals from New Caledonia on Tuesday, following a week of growing protests in the country over proposed changes to the French territory’s voting system. Those indigenous to the archipelago now fear not only that their vote will be diluted, but that the changes could bring about a civil war.

They have their own congress, their own president, their own government and ministers and it is made up of more than 80% kanaks amongst which a big number are pro independence.
The majority of those who can vote are kanaks, more than 87%, and the rest represents less than 15%.
Through the referendums the kanaks showed they want to stay in France, just a minority is pro independence and they have continuously refused the democratic results.
Get an education before commenting on a situation you have no clue about.

Many areas in the world need freedom
France does not give birth right citizenship like the US despite of having non US citizen parents. As a child of immigrants, you will have to wait until age 18. In addition, france does not allow not citizens to vote in local or presidential elections.

In some parts of the Pacific European missionaries actually prevented colonization by getting laws passed that forbid locals from selling their land to foreignors. These laws still exist today. The French saw things differently, unfortunately.

The de-icing of the electoral corp is part of the Noumea accords of 1998, it is nothing new and instead is part of the accord the Kanaks themselves helped to draft.
The riots and blockades have absolutely nothing to do with pro I dependence, not only the pro independence movements recognise it but they also don’t have any authority over these people for the simple fact they aren’t pro independence activists, but simple rioters and criminals.
The New Caledonian government and congress has had problems with this violent youth that doesn’t want to work but want everything without paying and effort. For years now, there has been a phenomenon of young kanaks aged 15-25 years old who drop pour of school, refuse to study and refuse to work, and instead go on pillaging the others (mostly kanaks) and drink alcool and take drugs all day long.
These last few days of reporting sufficed to prove it: these délinquants have no idea of what’s going on politically and are completely off reality. They claim to be pro independence kanaks yet their comments prove they have absolutely no clue, to the point they aren’t even aware that New Caledonia is an autonomous place with its own government and president.
These people systematically refuse to accept democracy and democratic results, when the result of votations aren’t what they wished for they just refuse to accept it and take to the streets. That’s not how democracy works.
These rioters destroyed so many businesses than more than 1000 people is now with rout work, most of whom are kanaks.
The majority of people they attacked in the streets and cars are kanaks and kanak families. Suffises to prove they just use this as a reason to commit arson

Please get educated......there were a few referendums recently about the issues and New Caledonians voted to stay under French rule.
I am sure the Kanaks don't mind sharing as long as they rule there ancestral Lands like all Native Indigenous people of Australia Canada America New Zealand Hawaii New Caledonia to name a few. Its all about resources.
The problem is France settling people too much, they don't want to be settled by Africans, but at the same time they settling Kanak's land. And Kanaks are Melanesians, they are also Black. So, double standard.

We are seeing true colours of French colonialism. The cannot negotiate and they don't believe in the rule of law other than repression. So the police get replaced with the military. The military that whose rope it is to defend from foreign threats is turned inwards on it own people. This just reinforces the Kanaks understanding that they are NOT taken seriously. France cannot learn any lessons from its own colonial history. Why is that ?

What is happening in Palestine has nothing to do with what is happening in New Caledonia.......The New Caledonians did vote in referendum only a few years ago and agreed to stay under French rule......sometimes it;s because of economic reasons.
