@@rachelconnell9624 True. This is Prehistoric Planet's main thing that it is not just dino fights, but general life like basking in the sun, playing with siblings, etc.
Exactly! I heard some people complained they didn't really learn anything new watching PP (I did learn a lot, I guess the complaining ones are semi-profesional paleontologists, lol) but I just enjoyed the visuals showing the slightly strange yet beautiful display of what life on this planet might had been like in the distant past 😌.
I think the reason why we're going back to Maastrichtian Late Cretaceous is because there were a lot of bts things that didn't make it into S1, like a scene where some Rajasaurus were hunting baby Isisaurus in Late Cretaceous India, so it's possible that they decided to finish up those other scenes and then split them into 2 seasons, which explains why we're seeing Tarchia and T. rex again and how a new season came so quickly in not even a year after the first one. Also, there's still like a ton of things to explore in just the Maastrichtian age of the Cretaceous period.
That would make sense. Hopefully, after this is completed, we’ll move on to other time periods. I’m not against a Late Cretaceous focus, but there are other equally fascinating periods to explore
While I'm a bit disappointed that we're going back to the Masttrachian period, I can't wait. In hindsight, returning to this time period actually allows us a chance to see more species that were ignored/not shown up in the series. My biggest species wants to show up is Alamosaurus, pachycephalosaurs, more focus on Ankylosaurs (which we seem to be getting with the Tarchia), and maybe some more non dinosaur creatures like mammals, birds, and crocodiles. The ammonite showed that they aren't afraid of giving non dinosaur, pterosaur, or marine reptiles starring roles for a segment, so here's hoping maybe birds mammals and crocodiles will get a role.
I think they're working towards the extinction event as a big showstopper. Otherwise I don't know why you would start a brand new dinosaur series in the late Cretaceous and then revisit that same period in the second season. I wonder how they are going to make it interesting
@@EvolutionSquare Who knows? I kinda don't want it to end with the extinction event. Just feels a bit overdone, but I guess with these visuals and dino models, it'll definitely be a visual spectacle. Either way, 2023 is certainly the year of Paleo docs, with this, Forgotten Bloodlines: Agate, and that new Netflix series Life On Our Planet coming out. And I guess Steven Fry's "documentary", but let's not talk about that.
@@EvolutionSquare my best guess is that S2 is gonna be mostly stuff that didn’t make it through post production in time for May 2022, like the Rajasaurus and Isisaurus sequence that was leaked a while back
I really need to watch season 1 because when it came out last year, I was really busy and couldn’t find the time to watch it and I sort of forgot about it over time. Now that there’s going to be a season 2, I really want to watch it.
I think they're sticking with 66 milion years ago because by then grasses and flowering plants were established, so they can sorta reasonably use modern forests as a backdrop. If they go any earlier it would be a lot trickier to use modern settings or would have to generate entire ecosystems which would involve a lot more work.
I kinda hope we get more scenes of dinosaurs hunting and fighting. While I definitely think that that can be over done PP felt like it was trying to avoid it too much which is also wrong.
Yeah I agree that it would’ve been cool to see another time period. For example, the Late Jurassic would have been super cool to see with all sorts of unique diversity. Regardless. I’m hyped for this new season!!!
My episode wishlist for season 2: 😀 𝑰𝒔𝒍𝒂𝒏𝒅𝒔: This episode starts where season one ended, with a Hatzegopteryx flying to a new hunting ground, the Ibero-Armorican Island. Other island ecosystems are also discussed. 𝑴𝒐𝒖𝒏𝒕𝒂𝒊𝒏𝒔: The episode follows various creatures in their struggle for survival in high altitude habitats. It would be a good occasion to showcase the pachycephalosaurs from Laramidia. 𝑷𝒍𝒂𝒊𝒏𝒔: The episode explores lowlands, with a particular focus on some of the first grasslands to ever appear. The Lameta Formation of India is an excellent candidate for representation. 𝑾𝒆𝒕𝒍𝒂𝒏𝒅𝒔: The episode talks about water-rich regions. It could be a prime opportunity to display crocodyliforms and freshwater turtles, both very diverse at the end of the Cretaceous. 𝑺𝒖𝒓𝒗𝒊𝒗𝒐𝒓𝒔: Unlike previous episodes, this one doesn't deal with a specific biome from a lost world, but with the living survivors of said lost world, and how they managed to live on.
All of these are awesome ideas, with actual facts to support them. Couldn't have thought of better! Only issue with the Survivors episode. It would mean either end of Prehistoric Planet, or post Meteor era only. But it can be fixed by ignoring it for future or making it so uninteresting that no one would notice. Ignoring is the best outcome for the series(sooner or later), but it would make it controversial.
So this is late cretaceous so maybe we'll get alectrosaurus, majungasaurus, possibly Torosaurus, and if they do put spino in season 2, they could make the poster image like, so you know how season 1s poster was the t rex doing something it doesn't usually do, swimming, season 2s poster could be the spinosaurus doing something it usually doesn't do, kill an ouranosaurus and standing on land away from water, or it could be the spinosaurus just ambushed the ouranosaurus from the water like a crocodile with a zebra and is holding it
So happy it's coming back, but also surprised it's so soon! I wasn't really expecting to hear about, much less watch, a second season until end of 2023 or early 2024. With how amazing the first season was, I've got big hopes for the next!
I hope they have more behind the scenes stuff (as separate features) delving into the speculative science of prehistoric planet, how they based those speculations in fact and what was and wasn't speculation.
i hope we get a look at a Spinosaurus or a Utahraptor soon that in wonderful CGI but as it seems it is set 66 million years ago that wont be soon, so it looks like i will have to wait till season 3, BUT i am still as hyped as ever cuz you know DINOSAURS!

I wasn’t hoping for season 2 be set the Jurassic Period too because my favourite Dinosaurs those been Allosaurus and Stegosaurus were from that time, oh well guess we’ll be seeing more of Edmontosaurus and Pachyrhinosaurus doing boring things.
i think they're going back the same dinosaurs and places to save money and meet deadlines. if they were to do something else completely that will take longer and a higher budget, so its safer to go back rather than making all new ones
I’ve seen there is another special coming out that depicts the extinction in much more depth than WWD or When Dinosaurs Roamed America. While Prehistoric Planet would surely blow it out of the water portraying it… man, that’s gonna be brutal. Idk if I’d want to see if 😂😂
I guess since they started in the Cretaceous, it would be kinda weird for a second season to go back further in time. Honestly, season 1 should have been Triassic, season 2 Jurassic and thens eason 3 Cretaceous.
One thing I'm waiting for from Prehistoric Planet is their version of the Spinosaurus. If you know that sail boi's history with paleontology, you'd be just as interested as I am with how they depict him.
@@EvolutionSquare that doesnt contradict my point. they took years to make season one, which is why i believe that they took the models, some scenes, etc that they made for season one but either cut or didnt finish and put them into the new season
