TL:DR
Hello Chinese is probably the best app I've seen so far when it comes to a comprehensive teaching course. It explains the nuances of words and characters much more than Duolingo or Drops and provides literal meanings and even talks about how characters are constructed. Grammar is also particularly strong with this app, and it provides grammar-specific exercises in addition to vocabulary-focused exercises. Hello Chinese uses video recordings of native speakers to teach new words, which is perfect for getting a real-world feel for pronunciation, although a few of the recordings did have a bit of dialectal accents. Overall, it's among the best tools a beginner Chinese learner can use, although the one downside is that it is not completely free. (the main course is free) But at $42 a year, it's easily affordable for a great tool to learn a new language.

UPDATE: I finally figured out why the microphone wasn't working! It was because the screen capture app I was using had control over the mic so Hello Chinese couldn't access it. 🤦😂
🤦♂️
Bro..Just F
Yeah u r right
It’s okay.
一切都错了!
I’ve been living in China now for 5 years, and this app has helped me more than any teacher. It really is worth using this. In case of the speaking and tones, it helps if you speak slower and make the tones more pronounced that in real life situations. Interestingly, my Chinese students always compliment me on my pronunciation. So to me it is really a good app.
Very helpful feedback, thanks

@@kaidanalenko5222 I say cris is also a bot lmao
Did you ever take HSK test? Did this app help you?
@@_Dwarkin Hi. No I haven't taken the HSK tests but I m studying upto level 3 now. I use various apps and resources since each has its own merits. I actually still use this as my go-to app and use it nearly daily.
Those lessons you have to pay for aren’t essential. I went for a long time without doing them. They are just supplemental.
It's essential.. immersive lesson helps me a lot.
@@docbryleamaya immersive is key!!!!!!!!!!!
In the new Chinese course (what's featured in the video, I think) there's a progress lock something like 40% into the course. You can't progress past that point without buying premium.
@@daydev2599 I didn't know this. In the old course there is no lock right?
@@angelnajera5107 As far as I know, it's only in the new course, yes.

I finished duolingo first, and learned a lot there. I think doing hello Chinese afterwards has taken me further, especially having to comprehend native speakers has been useful. Someone commented that they muttered, but that is what real life people do, so super useful. I am not certain whether doing HC exclusively would have been enough, but it certainly is bringing me to a new level.
THIS! the path to understanding a language fluently is getting used to all types of voices, because not everyone will speak and easy to understand like apps do
I also was doing a bit of Chinese course on Duolingo but I think that it's just terrbile. There was only a few words in the first lessons but many characters. As almost every Chinese teacher says that we should learn characters later, when we know vocabulary and grammar, that app is just the opposite. It was to much of that stuff, it was imposible to remeber all of those characters (there was no explanation about what they mean, just one word including them in the next exercise or sth). I used Duolingo also for other languages and it was pretty much fun, but in this case, I completely advise against learning Chinese in this app. Remember, there is a lot of other apps for Chinese learning and quite many videos on UA-cam.
Yes, HC give the best basis in comparison to other apps, the best for remembering tones and how to write is Chinese Guru. I'd like to found something like HC till HSK3, this is my dream for short future

I've noticed that too. "Ma" is also the cliché example in Vietnamese, which is also a tonal language.
It also reminds me of how, when explaining how Arabic grammar works, most resources tend to use the root K-T-B (like in "kitāb" or "maktab")

1. I like your smile, so damn cute. You're adorable and charismatic
2. Thanks for time codes, they're really convenient!
3. I found you not a long time ago, keep going! Your content is great
Aww thank you 😊
Hi
It's nice to see general opinions on apps from native speakers. Btw. Good luck with starting your business.
Thank you!
@@ABChinese Can you turn it into a worker co-op?
One of the best app. And yes, the speaking is very challenging :D
Hey, I finished this app, it took me a lot of stress but at the end it worked. It gave me all the basis I needed and by the time I finished this app I already could talk to chinese people about some different topics.
If you don't mind, can you share a bit about your journey... How many hours do you learn on the app every day, and for how long in total? Besides the app, any other resources? Thank you!
I did the entire language tree on Hello Chinese and learned so much! It's the best Chinese app I've used so far. Du Chinese is my other current favorite.
It’s been one year now. How is your Chinese now
@@blmaa319非常好!
What app did you use after finishing hello Chinese? How’s your Chinese now
I just discovered your videos and I'm a Chinese learner, your videos are so good for helping me condition my listening skills ❤
Hi! I’m a beginner in Chinese and I’m learning using this app! It really helps and your videos are superb! I just started d learning today and I already know how to say hello, how are you, questions relative to nationalities and 4 pronouns! Thank you so much for this video, I loved it!
I have taken Chinese lessons in person and through this app. I like combining them both. I loved my Chinese proff, she was probably the best teacher I’ve ever had in university because she was encouraging, demanding and fair. Taking classes from a live person allows unexpected elements into the class like discussions about culture and tradition. I found hello Chinese to be an excellent supplement to the in person classes. If you cannot access in person classes, I can awe that you would certainly learn quite a bit from this app. Like many languages, Chinese is very tied to its culture and learning about the culture along with the language is important. Hello Chinese does a good job of this as well. I love this language & the culture.
I haven’t fully gotten into this video, but I really credit hellochinese as the entire foundation of my Chinese. I’m so glad that that is app I started with!!! I don’t use it anymore because I prefer practical study, but I don’t think I would continue learning Chinese without this app
This is my go-to app and I actually find the interface super nice to use. What consistently makes it stand out from other apps and help a lot is the literal meaning aspect. I think I'd be a lot further behind if I didn't know what to translate word for word.
Never stop doing videos please 😄
I started using this app last week. I really like it. I am learning. I enjoy the regular people speaking the words, phrases and sentences, and the writing practice. I have taken 1 semester of beginning Chinese, using the Integrated Chinese 1 textbook, workbook and character workbook.
About the pronunciation exercises: It is not perfect of course, but still much better than what most other apps offer in that respect (Many just record you and you can listen to yourself and the solution of the app. Might be OK for advanced learners, but when you start off you might have trouble hearing the differences.
Others have a very lacking speech recognition and accept almost everything that you say. And I have seen no other app with decent speech recognition that also colors the spoken sentence to indicate what you pronounced well and what not so well.
Notice that I did most of the comparing approximately one year ago, when I started learning Chinese.)
i love this video so much, because i needed to know if i should use hello chinese. i was adopted from china when i was 15 months old, so i don't know the tiniest bit of the language TwT. so i really want to learn it! the issue is i only have the rest of highschool to do it in order to get my credits, so i'm trying to get fun and easy chinese learning things.
I absolutely love this app. I've been able to find a Chinese characters meaning based off recognizing just a piece of it. And i tend to retain the sentences here longer.
Thank you for your review. I just began using this app and was curious how useful it would be. I'm brand new to Chinese and don't want to take too many unnecessary steps.
This app is amazing. Hands down the best for beginner. ❤️
why is your video quality/content so good!! and not that many subscribers!! injustice
Wowww I'll download this app and learn it! Thank you
4:02 "maybe I'm a fake Chinese" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
You are so cute and fun!
Also, I love this app, is one of my sources for studying chinese and it is really working 😊 I am also learning Korean, but I didn't found an app so good such as HelloChinese yet...
So much fun to watch :). Thank you!
It was so funny that the app did not recognize your tone. Very cool video!
I am a Mandarin native speaker but i still watched the whole video, you are funny to watch😂
So i knew very little (just hi and good morning) so i selected i knew some and it tested me! This is the best app so far from anything I've ever had! holy cow! Get it if you like to learn Chinese!
I'm learning quickly already!
I like pairing the Hello Chinese app with a graded reader like Mandarin Companion. Vocabulary and grammar from the app and high repetition from the reader helps me remember better. Reading out loud also helps my annunciation.
I love how you speak to us like we are in the room with you.
Joke's on you. I *am* in the room with you~😈
I love his voice when he speaks Chinese
He's damn so cute
And his eyes 😍
It was the only app I saw you can use going from German (my native language) to Chinese. But seeing this looks like it has a little bit more grafics and texts when you go from English. Interesting! I currently am also trying Duolingo and must say, I find Hello Chinese much better for beginners.
I love this app! I like that it has the option to remove the Pinyin. I don't have any problem with the microphone and I feel really confident using this app. Just subscribed to your channel and wish you good luck with your business. If you have time and want to do another video like this, I would love to see you review super chinese app
Thanks for subscribing! I'll keep it in mind😊
Even if the mic was working, I don't think it would've accepted your answers until you said them slow. I had to say n3h3o like five times and it'd only accept n3 until I said it at a snail's pace 😅 Great video, man! I was looking for an app specifically for Pinyin so I could learn how to pronounce things correctly and you got me into HelloChinese!
I emproved a lot my tones with hello chine! In the lessons apears pinyin when you answer.
You should tap when you are done , it is clearly written down in grey letters
that is you should click immedietly after speaking manually
after you press microphone look down you can see "Tap when you are done"
6:35 女(nǚ)actually means “female” in Chinese, sometimes especially “daughter”.
Yeah very nice app I remember using it back while i was studying Chinese
I love Hello Chinese.
I can attest that it's a very good application especially for beginners. Certainly helped me out as a supplement learning tool Superior to Duolingo indeed. Especially with the mid level material for me.
I like this app. I use it 5 mon before I sleep for almost Two years and... I KNOW how to say a basic things! Its amazing!
I love Hello Chinese App !It's user friendly and also takes one on a gradual , step by step journey into learning Mandarin Chinese. If all apps were like it, language learning would be so much easier and fun
The thing that’s better than most apps is that the entire course itself IS free… but the extra add ons are premium only.
Also sad you didn’t click on any of the podcast things with each lesson 😭 the first few are free at least… and it’s a pretty advanced learner speaking with a native speaker about some quirks of the language, cultural connections, even memes, etc haha. That’s honestly by far the most useful app to me tbh
Bro chinese skill was so good too! They had the section where you can listen to people converse with each other based on the genre/topic. It was the best!
Hellochinese is the reason I am learning chinese
The app actually records ur voice. U can play the recording. So the app takes the voice from u, but denies you all the same
我喜欢这。谢谢!
I’m learning Mandarin to catch up with 8th grade Chinese when I transfer schools, I tried learning Chinese 6 years ago but I only learned 你好 and 你好吗, I’ve spent an hour every night since I started relearning mandarin and it’s been more than a week, I can speak a few and understand some Chinese characters and somehow guess the sentence
Your channel very useful..! ❤️
Actually, there's a lot of content in a free version of Hello Chinese. Especially for the beginners, like me. I've been used since jun 2021 the free version and I have no complaint
Same...
Wish there was a version of this app for Japanese, the app looks super helpful, if I was learning Chinese I'd definitely go for this app
I wish there was one for Russian lmao
I have to admit the app really knows their audience well. Even the logo looks like the host. Good stuff.
What business are you starting? You are a good teacher. Is your new business related to teaching? I am wishing you great success!
The "ma" example is also what my Chinese Chinese teacher used when explaining tones lmao 😂 It's definitely cliche but it's a good explanation to someone who is entirely new with a very easy word.
The problem is that you can literally use almost any sound, for example four tones of "bi" can be 逼鼻比币 means "force" "nose" "compare" "coin".
I love the app it works i am not at lesson 1 of personal infomation
Did you try the Superchinese app? Im thinking about using it
I love this app
I love the bits where native speakers "in the wild" speak, but a few times the background noise has been really bad. I had one where I honestly had no idea what was said... Even after seeing the answer.
"Maybe im a fake chinese" ksksksksksksks eu ri muito nessa parte
i love this app ❤️
I found you getting ni hao wrong so funny specifically when you imitated them because that's what I always end up doing to get correct🤣🤣🤣
Oh wangji 🤩
I enjoyed it, 谢谢!❤️
U wrote xie xie , ryt??

Lol rite now I'm using 🤣this atm I'm learning my Chinese on this app and wen I talk it's awesome it recognize my voice lol 😆
I appreciate it
I'm using the app for a week now and I really can't complain. I can already say some short sentences like 你好,你们是中国人吗。Pair this with a book and you've got all you need for a self study course.
There's this app called "learn chinese and learn mandarin free" it has a panda on it 😂🐼
Edit: it's called chinese skill 😅
It's cool too. Have you seen, it's no longer completely free😂. But it's still cool.
@@Nia.s.Care. ikr? They ruined the app. I used this app when it was free. Smh
@@loopymomy2532 just download the cracked version
@@nekemalo312 there’s a cracked version? Lmao
I learn from this app and I love it .. I was scared seeing your video logo " is this app incorrect O_O .. but I'm relieved now if the recording thing is giving a Chinese person a hard time then I'm good I guess lol
Edit: I saw your comment about the mic lol I'll get back to practicing my pronouncation ......
Same, I was like: 'I just found a good app and you're telling me it's incorrect?!
08:10 You can erase all application data from the Apps settings menu on Android, so you don't have to uninstall and reinstall any app.
Thanks to your video, I discovered that the English version is way better than the French one haha
What do you think about Acquisition vs Learning?
You'll be miss. Wish you all the best in everything .
شكرا على الترجمة العربية🥺
你好我学习汉语应用 hello Chinese, 我思考很好
Really good stuff and all what i learned about your introduction to HelloChinese is that they for sure "copied" a lot from a Chinese learning site called Yoyo Chinese and the grammar they covered almost used the same way as Yoyo Chinese did. Well, it's really about their business, but tbh, I personally don't think it's a good thing.
keep it up!
Dude, congratulations! Wish you guys happily ever after❤️
He's so cute 😍
I'm learning English and I'd like to learn Chinese soon.
I like Chinese language, I want to understand the Chinese TV.
Nihao, what app do you recommend? Mandarin is actually my first language, but since I don't speak it often. I sound really... limited
Oh, are you ABC/CBC too? If Mandarin is your first language, you already have a great advantage. For me, since I already had a solid grasp of Chinese grammar, I simply read books and learned new Chinese words. But Hello Chinese is really good if you still need to learn some more basic grammar and stuff
where can i buy a book with all written and pronounced chinese characters?
❤️❤️❤️
I also use this app
5:25 I'm frugal like that too XD
好的。😁
Please review super chinese I think it is super challenging.
❤❤❤❤

what is your startup about?
I want to change the language in Hello chinese
I guess it’s because ma is one of the easiest pronunciations for an human infant. I heard that it’s the reason different languages ended up with similar-sounding words for mother.
@ABChinese hey, you still consider this app as the best for learning Chinese?
Hold the phone right up to your mouth when you speak, that’s what I had to do
Me gustaría que lo pudiera hacer en español .
Do you know of any apps for Cantonese?
One question: Who is Long Da?
How about you try the app chineasy?
5:32 so cute🥺🥺😂
3:17 😂😂😂 -that was my sister screaming
HelloChinese is 🔥
So if nihao is just "you" and "good" together, does that mean that anytime you say hello, you're really saying "you good, bro?"
Yep.
"NiHao"就是向他人打招呼是的用语,并不是单纯"you good"组合起来的意思
一些汉字,有时候一个字的时候是一个意思,当这个字组成一个词语的时候又是另一种意思了
