Serious question: I know you like what you do, but have you ever dreamt of flying a bigger plane? Not necessarily the extremely big ones like A380 or 747, but a "proper" passenger jet? I imagine many pilots in flight school can't wait to fly the bigger toys one day.

Hey buddy! I've been subscribed for awhile. I am in a tough situation, going into college and I am a senior in HS in a rather poor town in small area Ohio. We have a local airport, but I was thinking of going to a university at Ohio State, (OSU) and get a loan for flight training there on top of tuition. After, I may look interest into ATP flight school, or any other school that offers CFI to ATP, really, and then look into a corporate job or a regional airline such as Horizon or Envoy. Corporate is very relaxed and you get to fly alittle bit of everywhere with the top class people. By the way, do you currently work for jetselect or not anymore?

Hi Cory, found your channel today and really appreciate your videos, insight, and advice. I just started school after exiting the military, using GI Bill to pay for everything, so it’s very early on but after a couple years and building hours as instructor I will be looking to move on most likely. I think corporate could be nice and has its own set of challenges and perks. I’m open to anything and will keep eyes and ears open. I think ultimate goal after enough experience is a cargo pilot for one of the big companies but who knows, lots of avenues and keeping an open mind. Have a good trip.

New subscriber, finally realized my calling. My father has been a corporate Pilot for as long as I remember and i loved having the chances to sit in the other seat growing up. Sadly, i lost my interest in flying after high school as i was into cars for a long time. Decided to take the career as an auto tech for 6 years. After the back killing labor in a busy dealership life, ive decided my dads life is the one I should have shot for. But, now that i have some time and money, its time to shoot for the moon. Love the videos, it really takes me back. Thanks for the motivation! Here goes another 6+ years of commitment 😅

your videos are very helpful! I'm on my IFR and planning on flying corporate in the future. But I also want to do bush flying so whichever happens first (I'm keeping myself open to the options) especially with the changing economy. Even COVID19 right now causing a lag in hiring for some of my already CPL/CFI rated friends. And I throw bags now as my job for an airline, and I love it. So I don't mind having to "dirty my hands throwing bags" as a Corporate pilot* :D great video!

Having done corporate and airline, both have their pros and cons. In the end, it’s all about quality of life and what’s best for you and your family. Timing plays a large part of it. “When I was coming up”, the pilot market was so cyclical. Nowadays, you can choose where you want to go.
I currently fly on a corporate shuttle program. We operate like an airline. In my opinion, these are the better corporate gigs. We have short duty days. We go when we’re scheduled. We don’t sit like your traditional corporate gig. I’m not flying glamorous equipment, but at the end of the day, the paycheck is generous and I’m home every night.
Don’t commute to any flying position if you can avoid it. Commuting takes YEARS off your life. So much time and money is wasted while commuting.
Airlines tend to provide longer term stability/security. Unicorn corporate gigs can close shop overnight. Literally. That’s my only concern.

    • @CheapSeats
      @CheapSeats 10 місяців тому

Bro, I want to find this kind of gig! I’ll fly unglamorous equipment to be able to fly short trips and be home everynight!

I've seen a lot of friends get into corporate aviation and networking is definitely key. However, they all have a few things in common.
    - CFI and CFII certificates. They've proven themselves already. All of them instruct and are considered some of the best instructors in the area. They know their practical knowledge, they're safe and proficient airmen, and have excellent knowledge of the Fundamentals of Instruction; particularly Professionalism.
    - Professionalism. Everyone of them is clean, mannered, and well educated. They embody what it means to be a professional pilot and take care of their clients.
    - Going above and beyond. When their students struggle they're the first to offer a hour of ground for a cup of coffee. When an airworthiness item is found they find a solution, before forwarding the problem to the owner. In short, they make their boss's, their client's, and everyone's life easier. They put the work in and make themselves the companies "Problem Solver".
Obviously it all takes time. You have to find and open those doors, but when you impress and help enough people they'll happily find you more doors.
    Edit: a word

Hello! Private pilot, new to the channel here. It looks like you're based out of KLGU which is awesome. Im currently working on my instrument rating at USU. I am at the point where I need to start thinking about and making a plan for what Im going to do after graduation. Sometimes I feel like I know where I want to go and sometimes I feel like I will go anywhere that will hire me to fly. I haven't thrown corporate pilot life out of the mix as it can offer a fun lifestyle to the right person. I understand that the pilot shortage also extends into your industry as there are lots or corporate pilots who are wanting to trade the on call life for something a little more predictable. My two biggest questions are, how does the pay and benefits compare to an airline job, and how did you go about getting training to fly biz jets initially. Thanks and keep up the VLOGS!

I started flying Cessna 150’s and 172’s when I was 13 years old. Soloed when I was 16 before going to take my drivers test. Knew my whole life I was going to be a pilot. I felt that, that was my reason why I was put on this earth. Well I was 18 applying to colleges was offered a spot at UND for aviation, I just needed my second class medical. Went to get it and the flight Dr said hope you never plan to fly professionally because it isn’t happening. Well crap here I am 18 and my dream just shot out of the sky. Gave flying altogether went and got a job on the ramp fueling planes did that for 10 years but then 9/11 happened the airline industry got shaken up and I started a family. Fast forward to now. I’m 43 with three kids a wife and mortgage. I’m a desk jockey in the IT department of a credit union. My question is has anything changed vision wise for requirements? My right eye cannot be corrected there is no surgery or anything they can do to fix my issue. My left eye because of the issue is extra super strong and picks up the slack of my right eye. Also being 43 and I have not flown a plane since 1993 am I to old? Not like I can start
flying tomorrow but I’d like to again as the kids get older. Or am I best to sit behind my desk and keep flying my flight simulator on my phone?
Fly safe and and keep the blue side up.

Great vid. I like how you mentioned bizjetjobs to locate opportunities. I was wondering how you negotiate obtaining type ratings. I knew some guys that paid out of pocket but it is really about who you know. It seems really challenging to find an opening since my pilots will stay in long term unlike airline pilots where there is a lot of turn over you have to wait for that blue moon opportunity. Is there certain place you recommend hanging out at to network to find these individuals? From my experience I just see these guys show up for a few minutes and takeoff. Is it the crews you speak to or the owners themselves. Who would you say to network with?

Hiya! Just transitioning into aviation at 32 after an established career in public safety. Although COVID is making aviation a hard place to be right now, I hope that over the next few years things will recover mostly. It'll likely take me that long to get to commercial anyway as I'm paying as I go. I only wanted to do 3 things in my career: 1. Serve my county and deploy; check. 2. Be a police officer and serve my community; check. Now it's time to do #3! Fly airplanes for a living! Thanks for your knowledge and your willingness to pass it on!

Right on Jake! Yeah it will recover from covid. May take a few years but if you’re in your training now it will work out for you. You’ve got 30 years of flying left, you’ll see ups and downs.

@@CaptainCory Thanks! I'm excited and just trying to keep my head in the game. It's hard when you're paying as you go but I'll get there! Keep up the great work man!

FAA guys are so lucky right now, there’s no shortage here in Europe, the market is saturated and it’s really hard to find a job on anything, especially corporate

I’m new too the channel. I’m thinking about becoming a pilot I’m 30 years yeah I know I’m starting late. I take my demo flight on Tuesday 1-28-2020 its a birthday gift to myself. It’s for me too see if I really want too go down this road and attempt too become a pilot. But this has been my dream since I was a kid. And I’m not getting any younger and you only live once so why not go for it. My question for you is am I starting too late? Is possible I can do this job at my age and still be successful? Or should I not try at all too become a commercial pilot/ corporate pilot and instead just get my private pilots license?
And information you give will be truly appreciate it. But anyway I love the channel and keep the videos coming 😁

great video cory. I want to become a corporate pilot but is it true that you need a lot of hours and connections?

Hey Cory! I appreciate your content. I am 32 years old and have just started ground school with Nashville Flight Training. I currently work in IT and have a great income, but am bored. Flying is something that has always interested me. At 32, am I too old to consider a career in aviation? My plan is to get my private pilots certificate and continue on to IFR and commercial ratings.

Just 2 quick questions. Where should I look if I want to fly the 737 BBJ? What companies operate then.

I know someone that flies for Mokulele and they’ll be able to get me in. I’ll build time and eventually transition to the regionals.

I am really considering it, but there are two things that are stopping me... it's expensive and secondly, I am 31 y/o. Do you suggest any way to go about schooling, and will my age play a factor?

What are your thoughts on somebody doing this as a retirement career? Could a person, say at 55, retire from their non pilot job, and do this?

Great videos. I’m currently trying to start a career in aviation. It’s been my dream for years. Are the benefits similar to Delta Airlines? Are you reimbursed for hotels?

    • @CaptainCory
      @CaptainCory  4 роки тому

Don’t pay for hotel. Benefits probably aren’t AS good for most jobs compared to delta, but I’ve always had good benefits.

Can you go straight into a Gulfstream 700 job from piston engine/turbine flying or do you need to work your way up through smaller citation jets before jumping into the bigger Gulfstreams?

1 is better than 0. Start somewhere. Get to know one person and go from there. Ask them who flies other planes around the area and go meet them.

Your lanyard and shirt says Utah State. Did you go there to get your pilot training? Would you suggest Utah State over other places?

I did. I recommend it, but you need to find your own fit for a flight school. Plenty of great ones.

Do you need a 4 year bachelors degree to have a good window of opportunity being a corporate pilot ?
