You have had this car for a week and you are already making tutorial videos! 50sKid I hope you know how truly appreciated you are in the BMW community. First e46 - now e90. Thank you so much for all that you do.
I love it too because I got an e46 325xi in 2018 and his videos helped me service that car. And then May 7th 2021 my 335i gets delivered and lo and behold to my excitement he gets one too 🥳🥳
I love your passion and attention to detail and the fact that a non OEM bmw fastener bothered you. Keep doing what you're doing sir. Looking forward to future videos with your new project car!! 😁👍
Can the bad boost solenoids also throw a 30ff code? Instead of turbocharger pressure too high 30ff is too low. I'm having similar issues but no half light just misfires on cylinder 5 and 6
be thankful you don’t. any NA bim engine is better than this pile of tuner-junky crap. also the N55 is just a much better design than this. EVERY single n54 owner I know or know of doesn’t have shit in the bank for a reason😂😂😂
@@bpsehgghhhh6684 I guess I would go rather for an N52 330i, but still I had many difficulties with my M54b25 in an e46.. depends a lot on previous owners
hey 50skid I wanted to thank you for all your videos I recently rebuilt my e46s engine and without your amazing videos I wouldn't know what to do keep up the amazing work and I hope one day you reach 1 mil.
Will this indeed cause a constant buzzing noise from my motor? It even does it for a second after I shut the engine off. I have a 2008 bmw 535i. I’ve never had engine light come on though
I love when there's a car problem and it's not so hard to repair, especially if there’s a DIY video from you. I’m really excited about more videos coming. Thanks 50sKid! 🔧💯
Aye guru. I got a 2002 x5 that won’t let me scan the obd port. Checked fuses. Fuasable links. Changed batteries with 2 other charged ones... even had my jumper on there too with extra juice.. I just get low voltage can scan car... I checked the dme and tcs. Car is in motor and trans fail safe prog.
There is a bad module on the network that is preventing communication. This same thing is happening on my E46. The way you figure it out is to dig into wiring diagrams and figure out which modules are connected together in the K or D can lines and then unplug them one by one until things start working again. In my case, it was the steering angle sensor.
I had a boost problem on my N54, I have an aluminium charge pipe with a bov and a Cobb access port tune , the boost would only go up to 16 psi and then drop like a stone with the engine light on and a 30ff fault code on my protool app , great I thought this could cost me anywhere between £2 and £2.000 + , as it was it cost nothing and was an easy fix but not such an easy reason to track , the T map sensor had popped out slightly due to the retaining bolts partially stripping due to being to short , fitted longer one's that I had lying about and now I've seen 19 psi with no problems .
Same issue...Ive been chasing this boost leak for mobths now 😅 My bolts backed out over the years 😢 unfortunately im now using a different set of bolts but still throw the dreaded 30ff. I had also replaced my 50mm bov v-band clamp as mine had began leaking and my hotside charge pipe from turbo to innercooler and its helped but now I believe my boost solenoids are no good. Do you happen to remember which size bolts you used for the tmap sensor? Thanks
MHD show a low boost code 30FF. I did a smoke test for vacuum leak couldn't find any. going try replacing Turbocharger Boost Solenoid Valve. Remove top cover plenty room to work on solenoids. no need to remove the canister
lmao i have the same problem on freeway pull after i repaired my wastegate rattle, and at first it really was my wastegate adjusted improperly, so i dropped the frame and readjusted, the code did not came up until i took it to race track, and canyon run, so i dropped the subframe again just to adjust it, now code never came up but boost is no longer matching the boost target. im starting to think that my BOV is not being responsive enough. lol, anyway thank you! now im on my way to change my boost solenoid.=D
Please help. My Snap-on scanner threw 3100 and it said Boost pressure control, switch off. Is this similar to yours stating deactivation? I'm thinking so because different brand scanners word things differently maybe?
You don’t remember Kobe making it his mission to never let the nuggets win a playoff game??? Lakers have knocked them out for decades. Currently the few years lebron has knocked them out of they hate the lakers
Great video man,I been watching your videos for so long.I love bmw and I always have one but I never have a good bmw scanner help me find a adorable bmw scanner i need one thanks.!
I’m glad to see you with the 335, I’ve learned a ton from watching your E46 videos. Thank you! I’ve had a number of E46’s. They make great first cars for my kids. Now my wife drives a 535 and I had a second one for a few months. I noticed your video wanted to share this trick I found. The boost solenoid should hold vacuum when it is working properly. I used a harbor freight brake bleeding tool to draw a vacuum on the input side. The worn out solenoid may not hold vacuum very well. The new one will vacuum. Recently I had two 535XI’s and the rear solenoids would not hold any vacuum, the fronts would drop pretty quickly, but I could at least somewhat draw some vacuum. If you still have your old solenoids, give it a try. Both my 535’s would exhibit the 30FF low boost code. After replacing both solenoids I no longer got the 30FF even under full throttle pulls.
Bravo, Jason! 👏🏻 I agree...that non BMW fastener would bother me. In fact, I noticed it right away before you even mentioned it 😝 Who knew you were a golfer?? 😎 I must get me that Milwaukee. I recently bought their underhood M12 light and it's great. Also nice when doing interior work. I'll check out your parts sponsor there.
Thanks for the theory of operation and your troubleshooting step. NOT MANY OTHER VIDEOS DO THAT. THIS IS WHY YOU ARE THE BEST. One thing I learned is that when the CEL is red, stop engine, why?

This is the best and excellent video about Boost solenoid Valve. I have the same boost problem on my BMW, I have bought the parts and i am going to replace m boost solenoids today. Thank you very much for your sharing. Keep on he good work.:-))
Hi, thank you very much for an excellent video. I have to do the same job on my BMW 525D Xdrive N47 engine. Now and then I loose power. I have already replaced 1 Boost solenoid and 1 Charger pressure. My next job is to replace the last boost and Charger. Very much appreciated video. It helps me a lot.
Love the paper trick. That will save my ass in the future. Thanks 50’s kid!! Btw. I found your channel when you had the e46 and you were solving my problems, then I got an n54 and you get one too!!
If anyone is wondering how these work. Stock boost converter solenoid is normally open. Vacuum is pulling through it and holding the wastegate closed, ECU sends ground to solenoid when desired boost pressure reached, solenoid closes, removing vacuum from wastegate and the wastegate spring opens, bypassing exhaust flow through wastegate. They fail by either leak or valve getting stuck open/closed from what I've encountered.
Great video, waiting for my solenoids to arrive, went on a first trackday and sure enough didn't have the right power on the straights and got 30FE, 30FF and 3100 with a half check engine light. Driving home at night, the car pulled better in 6th than it did in 3rd and 4th at the track, strange... hoping it's the solenoids and maybe the hoses, will replace them because it can't hurt to replace 13yo parts :)
@@titolozada2510 no, actually made it worse and threw the codes on the first lap on track, so it's either the wastegates or it was the MHD v9 map. Haven't done any trackdays since then, but haven't gotten the codes on the road either.

Yep, I noticed that when editing. It's not that they were leaking though, they were sticking closed. Bank 2 wasn't dumping the vacuum and going to 0 inHg at all and bank 1 was only going to -5 inHg.
@@50sKid hey thanks for you reply, luckily it was only a vacuum line. I didn't find it straight away as it was one of the lines that comes off the brake booster under the manifold cover.
Ive always assumed that my wastegates are worn due to a tinny rattle that sounds like an exhaust heatshield rattle. After about a minute the rattle disappears as the revs drop to normal after initial warm up.If i do this before driving, the car is fine.If i drive off before waiting , then within a few yards that yellow half engine power light comes on. I then have to stop, turn off, start engine again and all is fine. Ive always imagined that the vacuum pots lose their vacuum when parked up for over 5 hours.Maybe its these solenoids ?

So a boost solenoid can cause a overboost issue? I thought they were mainly responsible for boost too low situations?
Nope other way around. Boost too low is caused by worn waste gate bushing.
