I know it’s old now but Thank you for this video. Props to you for having the confidence to do jobs and post them confidently. Video helps a tonnnn
Thanks for your feedback. I’m glad this helped you.
My husband was having fits over my brakes pulled up this video and he said wow someone who actually knew what they were talking about thank you
That’s great! Thanks for your feedback.
Neat trick reliving the bottom spring tension to send that pin home! I haven't changed my front pads yet, at 70,000. The back ones were easy, but I have never worked on Brembos so thank you for the excellent video!
I am at 115,000 miles and they have 20% left
The fronts are even easier. Besides making the best brakes in the world, Brembo engineers them to be easy to work on.
Well done man, thanks for the post
Very helpful!! Thanks!
Good to the point video!
Hey man. Just wanted to take a second and thank you for this video. Saving me some serious bread...!
You’re welcome. I’m glad this helped you.
@@JoesCarSmartsNY I was about to order the parts. I know you said j55. Did all 2014 ats 4 2.oL luxury have the j55?
@@relocyo55 Not sure. You should have a sticker that lists “J55” in the car somewhere. It’s an options sticker. Maybe glove box or trunk somewhere.
Good work
Thanks
about to get some R1 concepts drilled chamfered/Slotted rotors, im not sure about changing the pads to new ones since they have a lot of material left, however i will apply lubricant to contact areas, i did the back ones already with some new Gucci Brembo pads, cant wait for the rotors and to see how my front ones are.
More aggressive rotors should be matched with more aggressive pads. The new rotors will chew up the pads faster in my experience.
@@JoesCarSmartsNY then I’ll for sure get new ones then, thanks 🙏🏼
Same way for Cadillac ATS 2015-16 brakes replacement
Hey thank you for this video. Do you need to open the master cylinder
You can open the cap if you want. I usually like to so it’s easier to compress the caliper pistons.
Do you remember the part number for the rotors and pads on rock auto? How are you liking these rotors and pads? Any squealing
I don’t remember the exact Rockauto part numbers but if yours are exactly like these you need to shop for parts for the “J55” brake system or “Brembo J55” brake system.
I know this is 3yrs old but was wondering if you looked into replacing the guide pins and the tension clip? Theyre pricey and im thinking i can reuse my existing ones
I did not replace them, but they should be replaced at some point.
Can you re use the factory pins or do you need to buy new ones? The pads I bought didn’t come with anything like that
I re-used the factory pins. Just have to be careful not to smash them too badly.
Do you think there's enough room to replace the wheel studs without pulling the axle shaft?
I don’t think so. I would probably just replace the hub if the studs were shot.
AAA did my rear studs for $250 I think it was 2 years ago
Add:
I got a set of tires and I think they cranked the fuck out of my wheels because less than a month later they snapped.
Are there two kinds of calipers on 2014 ATS(s)? There seem to be two different types of pads that have different form factors that can make it confusing when purchasing pads.
I know this one is the Brembo brake kit. There are other options.
My caliper pistons seems to be stuck, I apply force to them but they won’t push back is there anything I can do ?
Take the cap off the brake fluid reservoir when you compress the piston. Other than that - take it to a shop because the pistons might be seized in place.
Are there any other pins that need to be greases about the 2 pins you punched out?
Should just be the two pins.
@@JoesCarSmartsNY thank you, my rotors on my ATS keep warping very 6 months. Even had shops do break and rotor job. Thought maybe there were caliper slide pins that i didn’t see besides the 2 pins that get punched out. Thanks again!
@@johnmogielski4590 Not sure what rotors you’re using, but cheaper rotors warp faster. Maybe start using something from PowerStop. They have several grades of rotors and have never disappointed me.
Where do I buy the pin tool
It’s called a “punch”. Here’s an Amazon link: amzn.to/3HGKNOR
You can also get them at most about parts stores or hardware stores.
What size brakes did u use? I know Theres different size rotors
I called the dealer with the VIN to help determine the correct brake system on this one. This car has the JE5 Brembo setup. Rockauto.com sells them according to that designation.
Preciate it!
What about the rotors? Because I see two options which is 300mm(11.81) and 321mm(12.64in) from powerstop on carid.
I’m looking to go with the same drill slotted rotors you have just not sure about size and if it’s certain size I need. Also have the brembo setup
@@jniceswade7446 I just looked them up again on Rockauto. It looks like the rectangle brake pads (without the ears on each end) like in this video go with the 321mm rotors. You should call the dealer to confirm, but I’m pretty sure this setup uses the 321mm. When you have pads with the little ears on each end they should be 300mm rotors.
@@JoesCarSmartsNY Appreciate the help will do
Do does pins need to be grease or no
It would not hurt to grease them.
Save me $120 thanks 👍🏼💯
I had to watch this in order to put that bracket on correctly. I kept doing it backwards, going, "This is making a scraping noise. Why is the bracket scraping the rotor?" Oy vey. Thanks.
Compress the pistons before you install a new rotor
Good point. To minimize damage to the new rotor ?
Look at the video I sent you
nice video but use a punch on customer cars you whacked everywhere but the pin with that hammer 😂
I messed up mine while trying to get the bottom one out and now it won’t come out😂
Mines stuck as fuck 2015
The pins?
I used to want brembos now that I have them this looks tarded smh 🤦♂️
U didn’t show the rotors being change, waste of time video
You obviously did not watch the video.
