Who you think you are is a complete illusion. If you believe you are what your ego tells you, it will end in disaster. We need to ascend this belief, and attack the world not from ego, but awareness.
That's what spiritual people get wrong you can't really kill your ego, you need it to survive in this universe. It's about integrating it with yourself so you know when to use it to your benefit and when to not listen to it, balance. Also I believe ego to be a survival mechanism, ego is that voice that says "I need to kill that lion to survive". Ego is what makes you believe you are more important than others so you can survive.
The problem of ego is the maturity of the ego. Far too many unsuccessful people with huge egos still have the unevolved ego they had as children...they are fully gown toddlers lol. The ego should evolve as your life challenges you. There is room for compassion, passion, and self-worth in the ego.
The thing about having an ego is it causes pride and there’s nothing wrong with being proud of the things you’ve done, but when you start comparing your accomplishments to other people’s, it creates this illusion that you’re better than everyone else. And then when you get humbled, it really hurts because you think you’re the top g when you’re just like everyone else. The key is realizing that your human just like everyone else and then you stop putting so much pressure on yourself and everything becomes a little bit easier.
Today I watched video from Psychacks channell and it's main message was that one way to be a better person is to be more prosperous, because thoughts and prayers won't pay the bills. And the best thing you can do to other people is to solve your own problems. So yeah, being better person in overall requires big ego, not to put other people down, but to rise yourself up.
I did not expect the video to be good when i clicked on it. I was prepared to listen to stupid advice on how to be some kind of douche, which I then could argue against. But this turned out to be really insightful and I feel that it really resonates with me, also an introvert often downplaying my abilities to myself and others. Taking yourself and your ambitions seriously is really key. When you think you cannot manage do anything, are not worth anything and so on, you will supper and become depressed and also become a worse person in the eyes of others. You should of course not get the kind of ego that looks down on other to make yourself feel better. That is just toxic and unfortunately what many people think about when talking about the ego.
Amen. I think there are seasons to life; there are times for humility and letting your ego fracture (so that it may grow more True and Whole again). We often struggle with putting ourselves back together again, because we (society) often unevenly exalt Humility. We have to remember that unwisely holding to a 'humility' can grow to become a cancer (a 'false humility'), and that we need the spirits of Victory and Glory too. "O son of Kunti, either you will be killed on the battlefield and attain the heavenly places, or you will conquer and enjoy the earthly kingdom. Therefore, stand Arjuna and FIGHT!" - Bhagavad Gita 2.37
I read Ryan Holiday's "Ego is the enemy" multiple times recently because I attributed a lot of my troubles to not being humble enough. Humble in the face of adversity, and learning to be a beginner again. Humble in what I excel at because it caused me "hubris". The thing is, the times I was the most ego driven where the times I achieved the most of what's important to me. And what I lacked was a sort of risk management to soften to potential downfall. Because that fuel, that insatiable energy, man is it useful. And you feel so alive when you believe in yourself. I guess life's lesson is always the same : find balance Turning against my ego felt like turning against myself :) no shit
“What i lacked was a sort of risk management to soften to potential downfall” Big time self awareness there. The ego that everyone assumes is bad is like a race car with no break system. The awareness is the balance point to a big ego. You can have a large ego, so long as it’s balanced by an equal sense of self-awareness

Fight for your greatness, but also don’t be delusional.
Absolutely amazing video. Wow thanks. Such a rare understanding. You’re literally a child of the cosmos why would anyone downplay that.

Deserves a like brotha! I’m a mixed martial artist. And everything changed when I actually believed in myself more.
Preach! This distinction and nuance gets missed far too often.
