- This is an update to the original tutorial we made! In this tutorial, Blake shows you how to stream platforms like Netflix, Hulu, HBO Max, Disney+ and more in VR with Friends, using the free app Bigscreen VR. All you need is a PC, internet, and an Oculus / Meta Quest 1 or a Quest 2.

Great video, i do have a question i hope you see and answer. I just got my Quest2 yesterday and trying a few things out. I installed BigScreen and while on the VR i get to movies but not sure how to move the screen to see all the movies i can rent and watch. Help would ge great, thanks.
I can control my computer from inside Bigscreen without taking the Oculus off. Sometime it takes a couple clicks but I just point the controller towards the virtual screen and click and then you see a pointer with a slightly noticeable green tail that acts like the mouse pointer and allows most needed activities for me in Bigscreen.

Awesome video. Only thing I would recommend explaining to your viewers is that you must also have the VR headset and the PC on the same network. For instance, my ISP has a 2.4 GHZ and a 5 GHZ band. Also, besides the firewall setting you explained, another connection issue may be that the network settings within Windows must be set to private, not public. If you explained these in your video, I think all viewers would better understand how to get up and running with the Bigscreen Remote Desktop. Once again, great video.
I shared my desktop and played a movie. The software on my pc said i was streaming (it was green), yet people who joined my room said they only saw black screen. Do I have to be connected with link cable to be able to stream? you seem to know more about it. The software on my pc and on the quest are connected with the same account, I was just playing a video saved on my pc thru bsplayer, sharing my desktop

Good tip to use Mozilla Firefox when streaming, I had that issue using Chrome to stream a movie I own on Amazon prime, it would black out and not work, but it I played the trailer it would work - Thanks Bro!

Im in another country for work while my wife is in USA. I recently bought 2 MetaQuest 3s (one for her one for me) , with the intent to do "dates" via VR . Still trying to wrap my head around what apps I can acoomplish this with. With Big Screen some of the streaming services dont work outside US, so now trying to figure out how to use a VPN with headset... Lots of potential in this device, but made complicated by messy app and user expeirence. Thanks for video !
Have you had any luck trying to stream an SB 3D video from UA-cam in the Remote Desktop BG vr? The video in my Quest 2 is either duplicated (SBS) or just squiggles (OU). I've even tried half-sbs videos and they are not working in the Quest2. Any advice is appreciated.

i know how to do this but , when i create a room , and my friend joins , i cant hear him on discord anymore or ingame , he can hear me on both discord and in bigscreen . we both have virtual desktop as output and input in discord and in bigscreen .
any tips to what this can be ?

if i host a public room in bigscreen vr do i have to keep my quest 2 on or can i leave it on the table and have a bathroom visit...;. dont want to inturrupt peoples viewing... as you can probably tell im a real novice..

hey, some help needed if possible. the firefox thing has worked for viewing, but i cant hear. my boyfriend makes the room and we can see netflix now that he uses firefox, but he can hear and i cant. ive been in other rooms and i can hear just fine. i dont get it.

How can you stream a 3d movie if you have a blue ray player and a pc?
Thanks for the updated tutorial... I just had a small question. I read from one of the devs that there was a way to host a room directly from your PC remotely without an actual headset being attached. Have you ever done anything with that? I was looking for more information on it. It generally takes a lot of fiddling around to get remote desktop viewable to others even though it's viewable on my end so I was looking to use host directly from my laptop hoping to avoid this issue in the future.
Also, for some reason I'm completely able to control my laptop from within the bigscreen app... I'm not sure if that's something they've recently added but seeing that you weren't able to was surprising to me since I've not had that issue.

Hi I followed all the steps but the the menu wouldn’t show the red button that allows me to stream my desktop so then closed out of the big screen app and tried to reopen it but now it is refusing to launch.

Hi mate. I wonder if you can help me. I am trying to share my UA-cam. No problem with the screen, but the audio is hugely crackly. Any idea on a fix?

I had plex which works well for single viewing so I got Bigscreen desktop to be able to share my screen with invited friends, is it me or is there a loss of quality when using tthe bigscreen? Also you can use the pc's mouse to browse with your headset on, no problem, only if you need the keyboard I suppose you will have to look at it then.

So you need to have a laptop to stream it on the oculus? I was trying to watch a movie with a friend overseas, and they couldn’t see my screen. But I was just signing in on Amazon from within the oculus. I had no idea I had to have a laptop
No they can see it otherwise you woudnt be able to host it

hey i have a question, im having audio issues it sounds VERY laggy coming through the headset was seeing if you had a fix for this, i no alot of people that have run into this issue as well
I haven't personally had those issues. The only fixes I've heard of for that is:
1) Make sure you set all audio devices to 48khz
2) Make sure not to use a proxy/VPN
3) If possible, have your Quest set to the 5GHz network on your WIFI

I have this issue too. Just streaming off the headset no pc attached or linked. It was working great the first day but since then…it’s choppy and laggy

I tried watching the new season of rick and morty on UA-cam. I purchased the season but my guests would get an age restriction notice on their screen. I tried using youtube in the browser on the PC version as well but all we got was a black screen on all our videos. Is there anyway to watch youtube with friends that has an age restriction? We were also both signed into our accounts and are both able to watch the content on our own just not together.

The oculus remote is possibke you just neex the desktop bigscreen and the cord to skit a few steps and it works
Hi! I was trying to remotely connect my Quest and my computer but it doesn't seem to work. I checked the wifi as well as the firewall settings but I just can't make it run without my cable. Do you have any other advice?
Besides going through the installation process on your PC again, I can't think of what the issue might be if you checked both the firewall and wifi settings.
I'd recommend hitting up bigscreen VR either on their discord or Twitter and see if they have any fixes for you.

This works for me but everything I do on my pc that's showing on the oculus looks like a slideshow and the fps is very low. I have a pc running all of these things at full speed. Are there any settings I should adjust

Can I use big screen app to stream other movie and tv services either from desktop or any other way.
I have a mac computer so I can use the bigscreen app. My workaround was to add website links to my youtube channel then open the youtube app and click on the link. This way I can watch anything I want or go to any website I want in bigscreen. Friends cannot see you video this way though.

I don’t want just your friends I want people in the lobby like when you click on a room and watch there server room hope that make since. It seems Bigscreen has capped watching movies with friends to 5mbps (which leaves the screen with a less than ideal quality). Is there a way around this problem? Any other players to watch a film (in the same theater) with my friend? What about while on the same network (like sitting side-by-side in my house)?

Just met a guy on Bigscreen using firefox to share his amazon prime account and it worked.guessing he must have a an older version of firefox.

I was under the impression you can stream video files from a dlna server which could be on any os, Linux, Mac etc …

Does not work.. Will not connect no matter what.
I can see my computer's screen inside Bigscreen but when I try to share it fails.. Says please update your bigscreen remote desktop.. Even though I completely uninstalled and reinstalled a fresh copy from the website. Checked firewall settings as well and still no go. Completely frustrated. Haven't used it in a while. but even before it seemed sometimes it would connect and sometimes it wouldn't. REALLY UPSETTING!!!

Bigscreen app is no longer a free app. It is as of 2022 a paid app, like a subscription service just like Netflix, you have to pay for it now, maybe before it was free, but it ain't free anymore, its a paid app now.
