IMPORTANT FYI: Even though you may want HDR enabled for all inputs/sources, you probably don't want to apply game mode to all inputs like they did here. Change the option from "apply picture mode to all sources" to "apply picture mode to current source"
Game Mode does not apply to all sources. And "Apply picture mode to all sources" means that when you use Movie picture profile for example, then that profile will be eveywhere exactly the same, as you set it up on HDMI1 or other sources.
For some reason My TV won't even let me apply it to all sources plus I have a 2016 serie 6 at the moment and it only has 3 HDMI ports This must be a lower tier TV than what their using it doesn't even have a smart LED setting
Mauricio Becker true. I see the difference but my TV in Vivid Mode with HDR off looks better to me actually. Still playing around with the settings to get the best of both worlds
MaddMyke do you have a KS as well? I don't know man, I was expecting a BIG difference related to HDR and I'm kind of disappointed. It's just not exactly what I was expecting, playing with HDR off is better. How that is possible?
Mauricio Becker get an HDR movie. Shows the difference between HDR and sdr. Gaming I would bet is harder to show off HDR unless it's developed for early in the process.
For anyone wondering - this still applies for 2016 Samsung TVs (KS series) in 2017 with Xbox One X. I was watching a UHD bluray with HDR and noticed that the colours weren't popping. Turns out that game mode was enabled which was preventing the TV from automatically adjusting the light settings to enable hdr. It appears that samsung haven't patched in this to automatically apply (and likely never will) so for watching HDR movies you should turn game mode off, and for HDR games you should enable game mode and manually adjust the 3 settings Dave mentioned in this video (Backlight = 20, Smart LED = High, Colour Space = Auto).
I recently took my Sony 4k tv back to the shop, it was really underwhelming, so much backlight bleeding, and the picture quality was not as good as my 3 yr old Sony hdtv. Put me off Sony tv's for life. Have been looking at this Samsung model, but may wait to get a direct lit TV instead.
I never would have thought finding a video like this one! that is my TV and my console, excellent, thank you so much!!! I agree Samsung should adapt game mode to the best settings automatically based on the source... especially for a 3000$ TV
Honestly who here is setting up their TV, consoles, and games without going into the settings? We may not need to change a million settings like PC, but come on, you can't just plug in and go.
Even if your Samsung tv has no HDR support I highly recommend going through those settings that are available. I did on my low end tv and the difference is huge compared to the preset. Thank you for the guide Digital Foundry!
I have a Samsung ku6670, and in HDR I don't get washed out detail at all, also the ku series do have 10bit panels it just varies on the amount of colour they can put out. The ku6000 shows around 83% DCI, while the 6400 and above are around 92% DCI. So your review I think is very inaccurate as some of the ku series do have a wide colour gamut, apart from the KU6000.
thank you thank you!!! I've had pS4 pro and a samsung ks9000 since Christmas and ONLY TODAY do I finally get to use it full HDR thanks to you guys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! loooks amazing, thank you again
on my PS4 Pro it says HDR unsupported on my tv ? i've got a 4k Samsung but when i go on the menu to choose HDR the option is there but doesn't let me choose it ?
The KU 7000 has a Wide Color Gamut not like the Ku 6300 according to Rtings.com - Update 08/18/2016: The color gamut was re-tested and found to be wide, covering most of the P3 color space. / Update 11/09/2016: Our original test was showing 8 bit gradations due to incorrect drivers on our system. After some correction to our test apparatus, we have retested the color depth and found that it is able to display a 10 bit gradient smoothly. There is some little imperfections in the darker green, but nothing that could make normal viewing problematic.
If I'm understanding this correctly, following what these guys did, you have to have these settings. Go to Settings > External Inputs > HDMI Signal Format > Enhanced Format For the correct colour settings and lowest latency, change your picture mode to game, go to advanced settings and have these settings: Brightness Brightness = Max Colour = 50 Contrast = Max Black level = 50 Black adjust = High Adv contrast enhancer = High Colour Colour = 50 Hue = 0 Colour temperature = Neutral (I have mine set to this but I'm not sure if this is correct) Live colour = High Video options HDR Mode = Auto HDMI video range = Full Colour space = Auto I'm not sure if these settings are 100% correct but according to what these guys did in this video, that's what makes sense to me. Don't think it's quite so simple, switching HDR on in-game with HDR Mode = Auto through the TV settings produces a fairly washed out image (at least in Uncharted 4). Setting HDR Mode = On through the TV settings and toggling HDR to off in-game produces an image with very deep blacks and more realistic lighting which is what I would expect from HDR. It's highly convoluted though, there must be a way to get this same HDR effect after switching HDR on in-game as intended.
I have a 2018 samsung model, the settings look similar except for smart led setting in expert mode, i have contrast enhacer. Is that the equivalent setting?
OH GOD THANK YOU!!! I was very dissapointed where i couldn't find anywhere how to set up this on my samsung, i even tought the info on the samsung webpage was wrong and that my 4k hdr tv didn't actually work on HDR then i found that option, UHD HDMI COLOUR, but then the latency was very awful, and if I turned game mode on, the HDR didn't looked the same, so... long story short THANKS!! this is awesome!!!
After 3 years plus, i didn't know that I needed to adjust my tv manually. Omg. I'm head over heels now with my display while playing in ps4. Mygoodness
I'm really not surprised that it's that complicated as people who have calibrated great 1080p panels would be going through a similar process to get the best contrast and black level settings. To tell the truth, outside of the pure pixel upgrade, my 1080p Panasonic has a more pleasing image than almost all of the 4K TV's that I have viewed with the exception of LG's OLED line. Good panels have a gamma / black level setting that registers in memory per each input - hence you can set it up for regular TV/broadcast viewing and separately for gaming (which you should anyway). A calibrated SDR HD image will always appear more stable and uniform than a quick HDR option switch. SDR TV's that feature 10 bit panels and wide gamuts should easily achieve a superior image when it comes to uniformity and contrast to most 4K TV's now being sold with HDR tacked on. I'm glad I did my research before jumping on the bandwagon at this time. True 4K HDR within gaming is still a bit away - and now the feature is more of a back level/saturation boost which you can simulate on good full array SDR displays by playing with their settings. HDR is supposed to help render more inter-tonal values through the entire image, not make it look like a Michael Bay movie.
I'm sticking to the ps4 slim for my 1080p TV for the next year. The only thing that may sway me to upgrade is if the newer console gets a 60fps mode for my favorite games.
Kris Opala I've a Panasonic tv, and let me tell you the picture quality is outstanding. So happy with my tv. I won't be getting rid of it any time soon. Drop. Dead. Gorgeous.
HDR + is new feature in Samsung TV's which increases colour depth and sharpness even more than HDR, i don't have brilliant knowledge on the subject so refer to this article news.samsung.com/global/samsung-announces-hdr-firmware-update-for-2016-suhd-tvs
Kenneth Mitchell HDR+ mode basically tries to simulate HDR when you're viewing Standard Dynamic Range content. It has varying results but on the whole it's not recommended.
Nikita Poliakov did your tv come with a phone just asking cause I just did that deal, and am surprised at the tv they gave me. It's quite good I thought. Especially for free in a way.
ReformedThe what do you mean tv came with a phone?! I got my mine in store for about 2000$. It's a 65UH676V LG tv. It's not a top of a notch, but it's pretty good. Yet it has HDR Pro which as I heard not as good as OLED. So it would be great to understand if it was worth it...
LG's HDR Pro is decent, as it supports HDR10, the standard for most HDR TVs. It just doesn't support Dolby Vision Technology, which is said to be "true' hdr. Anyways, HDR capable TVs came out this year so most higher end 2016 4k TV's have HDR and it's way superior to anything that came before it (Even very high end 2015 4k tvs). Some HDRs don't even support HDR10 so you have to be careful about the HDR tag. In your case, HDR Pro is midgrade standard, and decent. I personally wouldn't pay $2k for a TV though :x The 65" must be huge though lol. I would go for something like this: www.bestbuy.com/site/samsung-65-class-64-5-diag--led-2160p-smart-4k-ultra-hd-tv-with-high-dynamic-range-black/5155103.p?skuId=5155103&ref=212&loc=1&ksid=e5a98892-2f40-4976-accc-a36917b1bf77&ksprof_id=16&ksaffcode=pg70950&ksdevice=c&lsft=ref:212,loc:2&gclid=COqow5Xlz9ACFQ9EfgodX6QIbg Samsung and Sony support HDR10 format and this Is a higher end HDR10. LG supports Dolby Vision in it's top end models.
Sony TV demo needed please. I have a HDR capable TV and noticing only a slight difference when im playing a hdr capable game. Im told I should be blown away by the difference. Im not...
TEQfilms colors of your tv will be down after one year of using, and the refresh rate is so suck. After I changed my tv to Toshiba, everything is different. Trust me
Thanks for that. I have a UE43NU7400 and I was confused when Last of Us 2 said my tv wasn't HDR. I knew my tv was pretty good as it was a smart tv. But thanks for your help you two.
Taelan Baylor Forza will just output HDR as long as you have the slider up. Unless your TV isn't an HDR TV. Think of you HDR+ like a 2.1 soundbar giving you the illusion of 5.1 surround sound.
Gamers demands for better quality have made the industry far more complicated than it needs to be. However, I am grateful that 4K & HDR gaming exist today with hoops to jump through rather than be one of the few gamers feeling frustrated that technology is not moving fast enough to meet my needs. With that being said, the Samsung KS8000 line is currently the only TV on the market fully capable of the best gaming experience with manageable input lag (FULL 4k/60 + HDR 4:4:4). It's very likely CES 2017 will have several more makes and models to choose from with even better pricing.
Thank you. Extremely helpful. I'll be referencing this for baseline knowledge when I do get an HDR capable screen. My main question here though is what kind of latency is introduced as you add the HDR and High Local Dimming processing on top of the Game mode? Does that 21 ms latency skyrocket or stay roughly the same?
Hey, I've just gotten a Samsung tv as well and regarding the automatic backlight adjustment, I found that turning off the Eco modes solved that issue of the screen becoming really dark. Maybe that'll help some people out since it seemed to be something overlooked in the video. At the same time, could differ based on the model
I used this setting on my samsung 7500 series HDR. But unfortunately the colors still does not look as deep it still looks a bit washed out. Any suggestions?
HermosaBeachJoe dang man that sucks. that's the size I was looking at getting too. the Samsungs DF recommends only come in 49"+ which is too big for my space. have you gotten a replacement yet?
Be careful with that Sony... I have read that some of the 4K TV's have a higher lag input than others. I know the exact TV they are using in the video (Samsung K8000) has about a 20-22 ms response time (which is the best that's currently out) in game mode by itself. Exit out of game mode it's substantially higher. My point being is if your main use of a 4K TV is MAINLY for gaming I'd pay close attention to the lag input of each TV/brand...
Bsquared Just wait another year is my opinion. HDR is in its very early stages and has more cons than pros. Also it isnt that much better than SDR unless you're paying over $1500.
Agree, game mode looks like trash. Turn on game mode for NBA 2K17 with this TV (with HDR and 4k) and it looks like GARBAGE even with all else set perfectly. Not many people will ever notice the input lag but everyone will see how bad game mode looks
J Kooch66 hey man and that's my issue with game mode I will be guetting Samsung ks8500 with the pro and I want my games to look the best...I will be playing in movie mode instead looks better right? With hdr
Thanks for this video. I have a ku samsung, hdr wasn't looking good at all, i was trying every setting to improve it. Now i can leave it off and enjoy the game.
HellFire You apparently don't look at reviews. Samsung SUHD TV'S are the highest rated TV'S on the market besides the LG OLED. Try actually looking at on in person.
Kragthor Nope, stop spreading misinformation, SUHD TVs are a fucking scam LMFAO!! You apparently trust EVERYTHING on the internet, you are probably also a die hard apple fan
eja35oz because it processes away details. You'll notice in bright scenes, or anything that is white that Dynamic Contrast actually makes highlights too bright and they have no depth to them. You can test this in The Last of Us by looking at the clouds and sky near the sun. With it on, everything is just white, with it off everything has proper detail. I do use it for tv/movies because it's incredibly too dark with it off to where you can't even see most things. For gaming though I leave it off. And always off with SDR content no matter the source.
Kevin Keegan Thanks! I actually did notice that in the last of us. The sky being all white..Though with it on the darker blacks make the colors pop in other situations.
***** That was my biggest worry when playing my multiplayer games. If input lag was added when using dynamic contrast. Is that a fact with dynamic contrast or are you saying in general any additional processing adds lag? Thanks
It doesn't. The whites begin to wash out colors and details but the advantage is very deep blacks. The thing is, the blacks can also be just as deep with the right TV + calibration settings.
***** I just realized that dynamic contrast set to medium is the default setting in game mode. And samsungs official input lag in game mode is around 20ms. So that includes dynamic contrast on Medium. So I am not sure if it lowers it even more if you change it to off.
In the PS4 PRO settings should you choose 2160p YUV or 2160p RGB? Or, perhaps, leave it at auto? It's literally a maze to get it working right, some people say that the Auto resolution setting doesn't work right on the new Samsung SUHD sets.
HellFire Overall my family has been favorable to Sony TV's but when we upgrade to HDR set we willing try other brands. This from Samsung just looks like a mess.
This really confirmed my thoughts on the KU series. I bought it last year and didn’t understand what HDR was or how it worked but anytime my Xbox One S went into HDR mode the picture got super washed out and yellow. You could manually tweak the expert settings to bring the color back to being decent but as soon as you left the game the HDR mode goes off but the edited expert settings stay so everything is out of wack again. I got a PS4 pro and the same issue happened so I just turned HDR mode off (this tv only had it on one input to begin with) and I just increased the brightness and color saturation to still get a vivid SDR image that is more consistent than going in and out of HDR mode. I’m fairly happy because I bought the tv heavily discounted because it was from the model year prior when HDR was first going into lower range TVs. It’s a huge upgrade from my 720p plasma but still doesn’t have near the color accuracy. Maybe someday I’ll upgrade to a better tv and hopefully by then everything works across the board without any annoyances or adjustments needed.
I have the MU6300 and I don't see the settings your are suggesting there (hdmi uhd color nor smart led). UPDATE: For those who have this model, these options are on Settings>General>External Device Manager
Got that KS9000. The picture quality is amazing and it has a wider color gamut than the ks8000. My pro looking real amazing right now. Honestly it is up to the devs to optimize games to capitalize the power of the ps4 pro. I am still looking forward for HDR monitors tho. I want 4K HDR with 1ms input lag u know what I'm saying...
HDR and 4K TV setup Guide and they only have the ps4 pro controller on the table!!. I don't remember DF doing this for the xbox-S back in August!!! And people say DF aren't Biased!!
D Jann you really don't get it do you..they are only referring to the PRO as HDR and 4K TV set up only applies to the PRO but back in August Microsoft released the xbox-S which is HDR and 4K and digital foundry act like it doesn't exist..do I really need to explain this to you!!!!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
Ioannis Stf the xbox-S is the first console to have HDR approximately 2 months before Sony announced HDR was coming to the ps4 and DF still didn't do any articles like this. so surely it would make more sense to cover both console's in this video!!! or are you another one who "doesn't get it"
Great video guys, thank you very much! I just revisited this vid while trying to optimise the slightly broken Destiny 2 HDR presentation on my Xbox 1 X. Still really helpful stuff 👍
***** The MINIMUM resolution for all PS4 Pro games is native 1080p. Almost every single one is running at either 1800p and upscaled using a new checkerboard method that most of the times isn't noticeably different from native 4k, or it's just native 4k, like The Last of Us is.
***** Also, the minimum entry point for a graphics card BY ITSELF for even 4k 30fps is more expensive than the entire PS4 Pro, which does run many games at Native 4k and others at a very good upscale from 1800p. Forgot to mention the massive price gap. Claiming "shitty 900p" just shows you know nothing about the system and you probably game on a laptop thinking you're the shit because you can run CS:GO at medium settings. Don't worry. All of us PC gamers were there at one point as kids. Mwalker And it's something you set up once and you're done. On PC, speaking from experience, you're constantly changing settings for different games to make each individual game work best for your system.
***** A steady 30fps with consistent frame pacing feels better than jumping between 40fps and 60fps. Anybody with half a brain cell knows that. You're calling me a "kid" and telling me to enjoy "my cinematic experience" but I don't even own a console. I own a PC and I didn't waste $1,200+ to get 4k 60fps. Good riddance.
With the latest firmware game mode now auto switch between HDR and non-HDR content. I took them two years to implement it for the 2016 models but it works great now.
Thank you! Just bought a KS7500 a few weeks ago as a PC Monitor and PS4 tv. Already played Last of Us on it, and was constantly messing with the brightness settings. I'll play Left Behind in HDR now :)
UHD color needs to be on too. The KS7000 recently got a firmware update that permits game mode with HDR (before the TV forced you back to movie mode). So if you have one ensure you update the firmware.
On my default options the backlight was already at 14 instead of 5. The only changes I had to make to get it to the same setting settings as Dave suggested was change the color space to auto. Didn't really notice much of a difference but it already looked awesome. KS8000 here
Wait, what? No, Gears and Forza do not support HDR on PC. And I should know since I've been really pissed off about it. Microsoft basically said they can't be bothered because they don't think a lot of PC users have HDR-enabled screens.
A full array led with localised dimming is best for LCD TVs. 10 bit is a must. For gaming a 1000+ nits CONTINUOUS is a must. Lots of TVs lower the backlight after a short period of time for various reasons.
Is there anything we need to know concerning the type of cables needed to make this work, and how they're set up? Will a standard HDMI cable for for this, or is DisplayPort needed (for the extra bandwidth)? Also, if I'm using a receiver, will that effect the ability for my PC to output HDR to my TV? I've heard before that the receiver needs to support HDR as well.
What do you think about the SAmsung MU6400 / MU6470, will Dave Bierton do a review? these are 2017 panels, would they need the same configuration? I think they are 10 bits panels
Hi Richard I have Samsung ju6500 TV model so I don't have the smart led so would it be named something different or would I be to get the effect with different setting for that part of the setup
could you do a set-up video similar to this one for the LG OLEDB6 series TV? I've seen conflicting set-up videos claiming to be the best options to select.
A video explaining Color Range, 0-255, 16-235 and Low/High etc? What should it be set to in RGB Full // YCC 444 etc. I.e. should TV be set to High if the PC is set to Full 0-255/YCC 444?
Will your video setup on the new Sony ones you guys did 6-7 months ago or is there need to be redone? or you guys gonna use a 2016 Sony model to do thisbas well?, thanks
I agree with what you said at 7:10 since I have a KU6300 and HDR looks worse than SDR on Uncharted/Infamous (PS4 Pro). My Sony X810C doesn't have HDR via HDMI.
I would love to see these guys take a look at the xbox one s with Forza Horizon 3. A lot of complaints of it still being too dim with these exact settings. For myself included. Ks8000 here
question about colour space, you said only in auto you get the full range of the color gamut range, what about native? the picture looks better in my opinion with native on my 65" ks8000
Samsung needs to update to automatically have the tv select the best quality, and have the consoles listed there.
You guys just did my tv shopping for me. All I wanted was 4k hdr with low responce time. No 3D, No Curve, just a nice Tv for games. THANKS ^^
IMPORTANT FYI: Even though you may want HDR enabled for all inputs/sources, you probably don't want to apply game mode to all inputs like they did here. Change the option from "apply picture mode to all sources" to "apply picture mode to current source"

And the difference is not that big. I actually like HDR off
Mauricio Becker true.

ON UK6000 samsung tv the setting "smart LED" doesnt exist.
how could it be best set up for my tv¿

Hey guys if possible can you do a video on how to set it up on a Sony Tv.
yes please. i second this :)
Yes please,.
I know I'm watching through UA-cam, but I definitely saw a difference. It looked great. Can't wait to see it in person.
Can we have a demo for Sony tv's?
Ivan Sarafanov same
Yeah, I've a KD-55X8509C which my PS4 is detecting as HDR compliant but I'm really not seeing any improvement in image quality.
Im getting my X930D delivered Wednesday!
jonzeye if it was like mine, you need to go I to the settings from Android TV configure HDMI settings and enable deep color output for 4K.

Cancer can be rough but he is doing great.
Perfect timing since this was really relevant to me with our new tv that we got on 2 days ago!

truthfilter thats my problem too.
Unplug through VR and go straight into tv
truthfilter enable ULTRA HD COLOR
You need to enable hdmi uhd color, on my tv it's listed under external devices.

Can you guy do one with a Sony Bravia 4K hdr tv that thing confuses me a little.
Set your HDMI to enhanced.
joe Scott I've the same problem.
joe Scott yea I got the x850d or what it's called and I can't figure this shit out, I just been playing games on photo vivid lol
If I'm understanding this correctly, following what these guys did, you have to have these settings.
Go to Settings > External Inputs > HDMI Signal Format > Enhanced Format
For the correct colour settings and lowest latency, change your picture mode to game, go to advanced settings and have these settings:
Brightness
Brightness = Max
Colour = 50
Contrast = Max
Black level = 50
Black adjust = High
Adv contrast enhancer = High
Colour
Colour = 50
Hue = 0
Colour temperature = Neutral (I have mine set to this but I'm not sure if this is correct)
Live colour = High
Video options
HDR Mode = Auto
HDMI video range = Full
Colour space = Auto
I'm not sure if these settings are 100% correct but according to what these guys did in this video, that's what makes sense to me. See if that makes games look better. If Digital Foundry has any TVs in their office and could possibly verify this as well that'd help as well! :-D

After 3 years plus, i didn't know that I needed to adjust my tv manually. Omg. I'm head over heels now with my display while playing in ps4. Mygoodness
You should set the "picture size" to "Fit the screen" otherwise you will loose the edges of the picture because of the overscan.
Address the 2015 Samsungs please as many of them received updates that allow HDR.
I'm really not surprised that it's that complicated as people who have calibrated great 1080p panels would be going through a similar process to get the best contrast and black level settings.
Drop. Dead. Gorgeous.
I have the ks8000 being shipped to me right now! So excited! Great timing for these videos DF! Thanks!
What about an LG? i got a UH6030. thanks for the vid!
Ian Brown bro this tv is soo bad , wide color gamut , no peak brightnes , no rgb panel so you it is like simulation 4k
This is the reason I love this UA-cam Channel.
In the tv what is HDR+mode for?
Kenneth Mitchell it is fake hdr. it takes your side content and tries to emulate hdr. it can look good on some material, but I don't use it.
HDR + is new feature in Samsung TV's which increases colour depth and sharpness even more than HDR, i don't have brilliant knowledge on the subject so refer to this article
news.samsung.com/global/samsung-announces-hdr-firmware-update-for-2016-suhd-tvs
Kenneth Mitchell HDR+ mode basically tries to simulate HDR when you're viewing Standard Dynamic Range content. It has varying results but on the whole it's not recommended.
Not for gaming really either, it can increase latency which is bad! but for general use whilst watching TV and Movies it's a nice edition
It increases it by 10ms thats not a whole lot and most users arent going to notice.
Just ordered a 65" Samsung UN9000 tv, cant wait to get it!
Wonderful video. Can you please make a video about LG UHD TV. I have a UH series which has HDR PRO.
Nikita Poliakov yes please. I have no clue if I have my HDR set up right. I'd like to think it is, but no clue lol
I would go for something like this: www.bestbuy.com/site/samsung-65-class-64-5-diag--led-2160p-smart-4k-ultra-hd-tv-with-high-dynamic-range-black/5155103.p?skuId=5155103&ref=212&loc=1&ksid=e5a98892-2f40-4976-accc-a36917b1bf77&ksprof_id=16&ksaffcode=pg70950&ksdevice=c&lsft=ref:212,loc:2&gclid=COqow5Xlz9ACFQ9EfgodX6QIbg
Samsung and Sony support HDR10 format and this Is a higher end HDR10. LG supports Dolby Vision in it's top end models.
Noriel Gonzales well, I guess I'm gonna be waiting for true hdr to get cheaper than change it :)
Can you do the Sony X800D? I've looked everywhere for a calibration for this TV
Sony TV demo needed please. I have a HDR capable TV and noticing only a slight difference when im playing a hdr capable game. Im told I should be blown away by the difference. Im not...
Hey everyone I'm Richard and I run Digital foundry!
Man I can't forget that! Speaking faster than thinking kind of situation huh Richard?
Thinking of buying the Samsung ks7000 (UK model) for gaming, would anyone recommend it?
TEQfilms Yes!!!!!!!! I have it, us model ks8000 in 65 inch.
TEQfilms never use any samsung products or you will regret
trungnc86 how come?
TEQfilms colors of your tv will be down after one year of using, and the refresh rate is so suck. After I changed my tv to Toshiba, everything is different. Trust me
TEQfilms Samsung tvs are shit
Thanks for that. I have a UE43NU7400 and I was confused when Last of Us 2 said my tv wasn't HDR. I knew my tv was pretty good as it was a smart tv. But thanks for your help you two.
What's HDR + mode?
HardDickRumba
ltte2 don't use that, it gives a lot latency. With game mode as they said you get minimal latency so you play better
HDR+ mode gives a HDR "effect" for non HDR content.
Taelan Baylor It wont really be HDR but it will kind of look like it
Taelan Baylor Forza will just output HDR as long as you have the slider up. Unless your TV isn't an HDR TV. Think of you HDR+ like a 2.1 soundbar giving you the illusion of 5.1 surround sound.
Thanks for that! I have that exact TV. Already thought it looked great, now looks even better. :)
I’m still struggling with it and it’s 2019. So confusing this helped a bit though.
2021
@@samcarriedyou I said this in 2019 you idiot
@@ComicAcolyte I can see that, I said I’m here in 2021
Gamers demands for better quality have made the industry far more complicated than it needs to be.
This is pretty complicated for just turning on HDR.
will you do a setup video for the Panasonic TX-50DX700B
Ryan Schulze About 5-10ms increase.
For the ks8000 it stays the same, which is why this tv is regarded as one of the best gaming tv's of 2016.
I'll jump into 4K in a few years when it works out of the box and doesn't cost a fortune.
Steve H you can buy a good 4K tv for less than $500 lol that’s not a fortune
I used this setting on my samsung 7500 series HDR. But unfortunately the colors still does not look as deep it still looks a bit washed out. Any suggestions?
Hai Tran i have the same TV, for HDR game i have to set ingame brightness a litle high and dc at least on low otherwise the game looks too dark
should I just get a Sony TV? I hear the X800D is great for 4K gaming.
I went through 2 of those (43 inch) and they both had terrible uniformity.
HermosaBeachJoe dang man that sucks. that's the size I was looking at getting too. the Samsungs DF recommends only come in 49"+ which is too big for my space. have you gotten a replacement yet?
JFn Cho I gave up and went with a the x800d 49 inch. which has a perfect screen. Could of been a bad batch for 43 inch, who knows.
Will you do same for sony and other manufacturers?
Cool but game mode basically fucks up your image quality and color. It makes blacks look brownish same with white.
Carlos M depends on the TV. game mode doesn't degrade the picture on a high end TV.
grahamt19781 It's does it even says before you turn it on that the image quality will be worse on it
Carlos M well unless you like latency issues don't use game mode
Makes me want to buy a top 4k tv and pro...
sayresy Devino avoid samsung of all costs
trungnc86 you're a fool
SuperNovaHeights Samsung is shit at tvs and if you thing samsung tvs are good you are the fool!!
I thought the color space was suppose to be set to "native" and not auto for HDR? Which one is actually correct?
Why when setting dynamic contrast to medium or high the picture looks better, but none of the experts recommend it
eja35oz because it processes away details.
Kevin Keegan
Thanks!
*****
I just realized that dynamic contrast set to medium is the default setting in game mode.
It's literally a maze to get it working right, some people say that the Auto resolution setting doesn't work right on the new Samsung SUHD sets.
damn that is a headache I mean not overly complicated but still.. All that just makes me not want to buy a Samsung HDR TV.
UntitledGameShow Samsung TVs are shit anyway
HellFire I disagree
HellFire Overall my family has been favorable to Sony TV's but when we upgrade to HDR set we willing try other brands. This from Samsung just looks like a mess.
Wait until you do it on other TVs. Same setup.
eja35oz I don't really care.
You get what you pay for my man...
I love Dave. :3
should have shown that the ps4 detects it in the display setting. good but also bad video.
Just got the KS7500 after the price dropped to a reasonable amount
Death Stranding looks FANTASTIC!
HDR and 4K TV setup Guide and they only have the ps4 pro controller on the table!!.
I don't remember DF doing this for the xbox-S back in August!!!
And people say DF aren't Biased!!
XBfan Xboxbestbox Lick Sony's Ass don't they. 😂
XBfan Xboxbestbox so what? It's just the controller
Ioannis Stf the xbox-S is the first console to have HDR approximately 2 months before Sony announced HDR was coming to the ps4 and DF still didn't do any articles like this.
so surely it would make more sense to cover both console's in this video!!!
or are you another one who "doesn't get it"
XBfan Xboxbestbox wow, you fanboys are dumb.
Great video guys, thank you very much! I just revisited this vid while trying to optimise the slightly broken Destiny 2 HDR presentation on my Xbox 1 X. Still really helpful stuff 👍
They're so dramatic. This is super easy. Nothing compared to PC game tweaking.
V12BigBlock Lol dumbass no game on the Pro is 900p upscaled.
***** The MINIMUM resolution for all PS4 Pro games is native 1080p. Almost every single one is running at either 1800p and upscaled using a new checkerboard method that most of the times isn't noticeably different from native 4k, or it's just native 4k, like The Last of Us is.
MercilessHobo yes. this is very easy.
I have a Samsung 2K TV without HDR, no complicated setup required.
Thank you! Just bought a KS7500 a few weeks ago as a PC Monitor and PS4 tv. Already played Last of Us on it, and was constantly messing with the brightness settings. I'll play Left Behind in HDR now :)
My HDR looks so damn dark wtf is wrong I think it looks better on dynamic lmao
Make sure your source is set to ycbcr and not to RGB
UHD color needs to be on too. The KS7000 recently got a firmware update that permits game mode with HDR (before the TV forced you back to movie mode). So if you have one ensure you update the firmware.
Rip pc
Ankit Sen LOL
On my default options the backlight was already at 14 instead of 5. The only changes I had to make to get it to the same setting settings as Dave suggested was change the color space to auto. Didn't really notice much of a difference but it already looked awesome. KS8000 here
PC can't handle this.
Dumbest comment I've ever seen when it's the display not the console/PC, go back to school rofl
Gears of War 4, Forza Horizon 3, Heroes of the Storm, Shadow Warrior 2 etc all support HDR on PC. Stop sprouting shite.
Gears 4 and Forza Horizon 3 on PC supports HDR? News to me. I'll give you SW2 though.
Wait, what? No, Gears and Forza do not support HDR on PC. And I should know since I've been really pissed off about it. Microsoft basically said they can't be bothered because they don't think a lot of PC users have HDR-enabled screens.
internisus Lol yep. Does Final Fantasy XV on XB1s have HDR?
A full array led with localised dimming is best for LCD TVs.
10 bit is a must.
For gaming a 1000+ nits CONTINUOUS is a must. Lots of TVs lower the backlight after a short period of time for various reasons.
Already 3 dislikes after 1 minute.
I added one more which makes it a magical 8
not really I don't even like xbox one or ps4 or even pc! I dislike cause it's fun to see actual fanboys arguing with eachother... it's so pety
Ioannis Stf buttheart PlayStation fanboy
Anirban Ojha xtwat alert!!!!
So if i have the xbox one s
i need to do the same procces that they did with the ps4?
hi there can you use these settings on the Samsung ku6470? or what would be the best settings for that model of tv
Any way to get a setup for a Sony XBR75X940D or something equivalent?
hi could you possible recommend best settings for a 55uhd 4k hisense TV for gaming etc
Word of advice, I found that putting Dynamic contrast to high on my Samsung SUHD worked really well with Uncharted 4 and Last of Us in HDR mode.
What about contrast ? Don't you need to set to 100 gor HDR , and also gamma at 0?
I have this tv and was wondering what the current state of play with regards to HDR game mode ? Is it still a pain to set up
A video explaining Color Range, 0-255, 16-235 and Low/High etc? What should it be set to in RGB Full // YCC 444 etc.
I.e. should TV be set to High if the PC is set to Full 0-255/YCC 444?
So basically, when switching from a game in SDR to a game with HDR, you need to change backlight and Smart LED. That's it?? Or am I wrong?
Will your video setup on the new Sony ones you guys did 6-7 months ago or is there need to be redone? or you guys gonna use a 2016 Sony model to do thisbas well?, thanks
Awesome video thank you! Quick question though if you set the TV to game mode do you get 4:4:4? Thank you in advance!
What settings would you recommend for the Q9fn 55 inch model?
So for movies, you just put it in movie mode and enable HDMI UHD color?
And then switch it off when watching non HDR content?
I agree with what you said at 7:10 since I have a KU6300 and HDR looks worse than SDR on Uncharted/Infamous (PS4 Pro). My Sony X810C doesn't have HDR via HDMI.
Do these setting apply for 4k HDR movies such as Lucy, watchmen, & the revenant for example? I have an a Xbox one s by the way.
Finally we get to see the Legend David or you may know it as DAVE!
I would love to see these guys take a look at the xbox one s with Forza Horizon 3. A lot of complaints of it still being too dim with these exact settings. For myself included. Ks8000 here
What about in the other video where you changed a lot more settings on the same tv
do you need a specific HDMI cable? and does the HDR work when ps4 (pro) is connected to the mini connect/smart box/connector?
Could you guys get your hands on Hisense TVs? I've hears that the 7000 series is pretty impressive
This two man is fantastic... Very useful advice and i follow every single steps you telling... Thanks for the info
question about colour space, you said only in auto you get the full range of the color gamut range, what about native? the picture looks better in my opinion with native on my 65" ks8000
