That place is absolutley filthy and, frankly, dangerous. No wonder it was so cheap. I would never stay there. I'd be very afraid of fire with those sketchy electrics.

It’s rather sad that you had to deal with such a terrible experience. I hope your flight home, will be more enjoyable.
The penthouse is horrendous! The blinds should be replaced with a modern remote-controlled one and the warning of not cooking is ironic- why provide a full kitchen when you cannot cook?
The rooms have kitchens because it was originally built as a residential tower. It was changed to a hotel before construction was complete, and the apartments became luxury hotel rooms. I guess it was cheaper/easier to leave the kitchens in than remove them, but no cooking is permitted in them by anyone.
I wouldn't have thought so, that tiny two placement hob wouldn't be sufficient for a family living in there as a residential abode. More likely it's kitted out with a kitchen so you can get a professional chef in to cater in the room for you if hosting a special occasion.
This hotel is kind of emblematic of what Dubai actually is; The Las Vegas of the Middle East. Pretending to be grand when it's actually a gaudy bauble in the middle of the desert. The lack of service lifts in a hotel that large is crazy.
I guess you must've skipped Tim's last video at the Royal Atlantis. I agree this hotel is not worth the price but to impune the entire city based off this hotel is quite cheap.
Having spent a bit of time in Dubai, it is nothing like you describe 😂 I must admit I have only been to LV twice, but the hotels there are nowhere near as good as the ones I stayed in Dubai
The best bit?...Your piano solo! All I could think of all the way through was The Towering Inferno. Lifts that get stuck on every floor (shared with the blinking cleaners!), wires sticking out, dirty surfaces, TV's that don't work, water not working, broken table....the list goes on...I hope you got your £500 back. You are paying out all that amount of money & getting very little joy out of it at the moment for the channel. Hope the boating trip with Gaby is going well at the mo anyway!! x J x
I stayed here and left after 30 minutes. I was a few floors from the top, the phone didn’t work so I couldn’t contact reception. I had no cell service. The wifi didn’t work. Felt awfully dangerous being that high up and no contact with the ground. Then the concierge lost my iPad and MacBook. The lifts scared the hell out of me & the sound of the wind was just insane. The windows were so dirty that the view wasn’t even worth it. Honestly I wouldn’t be surprised if this building has some emergency issues in the future.
@@remusserban5157He has to pay 1400 pounds for that ! He shoulda asked for a reduction, asked for sympathy, begged for charity, something! Where is the milk of human kindness! LOL!!!
@@JR.4740 Every hotel has different rule. The one I worked, the staff will be told off if use the guest lift. As I know, the staff lift goes to basement (where the laundry is and etc.) and roof which is different compare to the guest one. And those lifts run much quicker than the guest lifts. 🤣
was thinking exactly this why would this not be designed with staff only access lifts in mind, the whole thing seems like who ever designed it was completely clueless
Former hotel cook: The kitchen is for the culinary staff to cook in your room for you. Often someone will host a party in penthouses and that helps us accommodate the demand
Creepy electrical wiring, crowded lifts, non hygenic rooms, beds made without changing the sheets. Great location for a horror flick with eerie hallways and locked stairwells. Glad you're safe and out of there Tim!
Tim, I absolutely loved your narration of your stay while playing the piano! When you got off on the wrong floor and then went into the stairwell made me laugh but also was a little unnerving. I really look forward to each video you do and really enjoy your channel. Thank you for sharing your travels with all of us.
What a horrible hotel. Extremely tacky, dirty, badly maintained, TVs not working, no hot water... I wouldn't stay there even if I got paid. Also, what would happen if the whole hotel had to be evacuated as a result of a fire or a terrorist attack or something? Wait 20 minutes for an elevator or try to run down 72 floors with hundreds/thousands of other people? Disaster waiting to happen. Thanks for a great vid though, as always!
I think you need put this in your worst hotels section. IMO, Dubai looks like one big massive Lego set. I have never been but it's just the impression I get. Another great video Tim
It’s a charmless trophy to the oil industry, soaked in the blood of the people that built it. It’s like putting Canary Wharf in the desert, but without any of the underlying purpose. Why people like that place is beyond me. You can tell a lot about a person by what they think about Dubai.
I was very surprised (actually shocked) the poor condition of the Gevora. This hotel reminded me of your adventures in NYC at the Plaza Hotel. Historic but plumbing issues, torn and dirty furniture, electrical problems, tv issues, dirty windows. Horrible. Then to top it off, staff members filling up an elevator....a GUEST elevator...inconveniencing paying guests. I'm truly gobsmacked.
The long eating table that faces the **wall** was just odd - all of those stunning views and the table faces the wall. I guess, if someone has been a bad boy or bad girl - they have to go stare at the wall for their time out! LOL! Thanks for a GREAT, entertaining video, Tim!! You make so many of us smile!!
This made me very nervous when I watched this. I think the combination of it being so high and there being cables and air conditioning ducts hanging out the window 😬
This looks like a 3 star hotel. Not worth every penny 1.) Poor lift management 2.) Cleaner should have/use maintenance lift 3.) Dull interior, poor room facilities & maintenance 4.) Seriously, all curtains need to be adjusted manually, is this a joke
OMG, the Christmas lights in the restaurant.!The stained furniture, the light cords. The windows are filthy. The duct tape. They should have payed you to stay there!
The pool looked nice... but that is really the only good point for me. What with the lift issues, stains & grime, taped up windows, TVs that don't work, no hot water, faulty air conditioning, bland breakfast, loose electric fittings, and dodgy wiring... that's a def 👎 from me! Also, i prefer a relaxing sea view rather than umpteen monstrous skyscrapers stretching to the horizon. I wouldn't pay £13.00 to stay there, let alone £1300!!
As a Penthouse, it’s a massive disappointment and the rest of the Hotel is even more of a disappointment and I wouldn’t even call it a Five Star Hotel and the main Lifts being used by the Staff would never be used by the cleaning staff and the Room would of been Checked by the Cleaning Manager before the Room is officially opened to the Guests, once again a huge disappointment for a Five Star Hotel.
Hi Tim, I can't believe how lacking in style and warmth that penthouse suite was. It had no welcoming vibes, no warmth, no character and there is clearly a lack of attention to detail from the management. Some of the electrics were loose and looked dangerous! The pool at night looked amazing though. Definitely one of the better aspects of the hotel. Hope you're having a great time out there. xx
Again, I always love watching your hotel reviews, tours, etc because who knows if I have the chance to experience such 😆 This feels like a free peep on how luxury life looks like.
I love moving around naked in my hotel room and that glass door at 2:09 would totally and completely freak me out!! Total lack of privacy, it’s weird as hell!!! Not to mention the dirt. But I absolutely loved watching the video, to the point I almost forgot to breathe! :)) Very exciting! When you got up to that floor where lifts weren’t working anymore and you seemed to have no escape I totally panicked :)) I absolutely love your comments, I laughed and thoroughly enjoyed watching you! Thank you for this experience! I was feeling low tonight and your video completely lightened my mood! ❤
I know that area of Dubai and it is a slightly older part of the city with older buildings, so Im not surprised by the wear and tear. Also, the cleaning staff are all philipino and are no doubt over worked and very under paid. It looked like a beautiful suite once upon a time, but Id say theres been a few parties in that room over the years, hence the stains. The cleaners def need a service elevator and the penthouse, should have had its own dedicated lift. Great video, but it def doesn't compare to the atlantis the royal ... it was amazing !
@@mramaretto114 I am not 100% sure, but I think this hotel is "party" hotel in Dubai. A lot on younger people seem to like it. So you can of get that from the Penthouse. Not sure why they don't maintain in better. It is not a cheap hotel, so what gives?
Really enjoyed watching this with my wife and two teenish sons - informative as always and really entertaining. I lived and worked in Dubai for 8 years and I remember when they opened this Hotel as my office was just opposite on SZR. I would never have stayed there personally, knowing what it was like, there are many better Hotels to stay in in Dubai as you well know. I recommend a stay at the Paramount Hotel by DAMAC (5-star) in Business Bay (not the Midtown one) if you ever go back. It has a cinema, Hollywood-themed rooms (quirky), nice restaurants and bars, a relaxing pool area, plus more. I lived in the Hotel complex for 2 years, it has 4 towers, 3 are residential and one is the Hotel, and all 4 towers are interconnected. Keep up the great work Tim, I've watched most of your videos, as you're doing similar to what I once thought of doing!😊
You aren’t supposed to use a lift in a fire so you’d be fucked going down 72 flights of stairs on foot. If the fire didnt kill you, you’d probably die of a heart attack 😅
@@fatmike01 Well, that's assuming the staircase doors were unlocked on all the floors, unlike the one Tim tried. Otherwise a heart attack would be the least of your worries!
The piano playing review of the shower and hot water etc was hilarious 😂 it was the naffest rooms I've ever seen. The amount of Gold was just overkill.
Another amazing post! It shouldn't be that dirty. It's absolutely huge. They really need to have a knowledgeable staff person show you around and get at least one TV working. I can't believe they don't have a service elevator for staff and cleaning people. Lucky you didn't get locked up on the weird floor OR in the stairwell forever!. The top level restaurant and pool are beautiful but it makes you wonder how "clean" they are. That other skyscraper is amazing with all the lights that can be programmed to show colors and the royals etc. Best, from Colorado!
Went there in the early 2000s . We got a good and reasonable hotel that was simpler but cleaner. There was so much traffic travelling around by bus took ages. So much building construction was going on and it was dusty and polluted. Guess must have changed a lot since then.
Whilst the penthouse has lots of rooms, they tell you to only use one for cleaning purposes, they do not clean the other rooms unless its a group or conference so occasionally people use other rooms which get ignored on cleaning
You always make an effort in all vids tim, like I say the best on you tube. Which really sets the bar quite high for you but you can do it if anyone can. 😊
All I can say is "WoW!" I used to work in a 5 star luxury hotel that catered to stars and looking at this place it should consider itself lucky if it rates 1 star. Cleaners should never be using guest lifts, they are supposed to use the maintenance lifts (which should be out of sight of guest rooms) on each floor. They are never supposed to delay or interfere with guest movement. The M3 floor you went up to and couldn't use the lift to get down is a Maintenance Floor. They are supposed to only have access to Maintenance Floors with special keys to make the lift work (to keep guests from accessing the floor). This whole hotel needs a complete overhaul of the hotel and staff. Lots of changes need to be made to bring it up to the standard of a Motel 6! Sorry your Penthouse stay was not much better Tim. There are Penthouses that would blow your mind with their luxury. I am so sorry your first experience in one had to be so bad ☹☹☹
🤣🤣You were on fire in this video! Your sense of humour here had me rolling with laughter. I appreciate you composed a song even though you had to have been tired from opening all those curtains! My heart did stop for a minute when I thought you were going to be trapped in that stairwell. Sorry it was a poor stay, but you provided some great entertainment.
When I was in the Navy, when we'd hit port, a bunch of us would usually get together and stay in the most expensive hotels at the place we were visiting and just share the room then split the cost. This would be perfect for that occasion! Everyone gets a room and no one has to sleep on the couch or floor 😂
Penthouse with 5 bedrooms but the interior and deco are very basic. I am surprised they didn't stock up drinks in the fridge for guest staying in the penthouse. The kettle and coffee machine look cheap. Also, the curtains have to do it manually iso electronic. No TOTO bidet... I agree, what's the point of a hob if cooking is not permitted. Why is there a long dining/meeting table with chairs in the master bedroom? Overall, very underwhelmed and tacky to the max. The only consolation is the rooftop pool with a nice view. Lastly, the hotel cleaning staff should not be using the guest lifts, they have a separate lifts for them.
I think they meant no cooking in the bedroom, it'll be fine in the kitchen but rooms won't have that facility. The gold is so tacky in my opinion but some people associate it with opulence, I just think it looks cheap
I cannot agree with you more! All the tacky gold color which is brass and not gold at all is quite excessive and pretentious in a very unsophisticated way. Not that I’m actually expecting actual gold Ofcourse.
I work in hotels and it’s a safety thing for all the curtains to be down. It’s for your privacy and you can request anything as well so if you don’t want to put all the blinds up, you could actually call somebody to put them up and they would send somebody.
Thanks for another amazing video, Tim. Totally agree about the state of this hotel, paying what you paid and for what should be the statement area of the hotel, that's appalling. I'd have been asking for a clean, new bath mat, clean the bathrooms again and fixing all of the broken lighting/hot taps etc. The breakfast looks worse than a Spoons one too. Just goes to show you that promoted opulence isn't always worth it or what it seems.
Tim, you really made my day playing the piano and singing about all the things that went wrong at the hotel. I'm glad you took all the negative aspects with so much sense of humour, you really made me laugh. Considering the price of the penthouse the hotel was certainly disappointing and a bit dodgy too. Congratulations on your success, you deserve it!
Crazy mix of splendour and neglect. This theme repeats itself in many of Tim's hotel vids especially Britannia hotels but also some luxury hotels too. You can see Tim's frustration levels rise as the video progresses, Not a lot worked properly did it. Must say that the the positives were really exceptional such as the swimming pool with bar , the views and agree the number 1 bedroom was the best. Thanks for an intriguing video Tim ! Perhaps a whole video of Tim singing coming up? like a musical tour lol.
I find it interesting that the best views are other, much better hotels. I get the feeling also that this is a party room not meant for a family to stay. It was totally scary to get stuck in the utility floor!
Wow THOSE VIEWS from any of those windows!!!! Spectacular!!!!!! And you were BRAVE going up and ACTUALLY STAYING all the way UP THERE....I couldn't do it!!!!!!!😮😮😮
Good to see you stay at the Tallest hotel to give us your review , that shower was certainly massive but looked grubby on the floor the hotel was a bit hit & miss but great review as always Tim 👍
A penthouse suite and there’s no electric blinds? Stains everywhere, outlets hanging off walls? Defo not 5 star for me. Looks like a tacky Benidorm large caravan 😂😂😂
I read that originally it was supposed to be condos and the building was converted into a hotel at the last minute due to higher returns, which may explain the strange layout, the kitchens and poor maintenance
Very interesting Tim! Gives us an insight into the luxury hotels and just how different they can be. The views were the best bit about staying here. The Atlantis Royal was so much nicer and had more personality. Great to see the contrast though - thanks for another great video!
I'm speechless. I really hope someone from the hotel sees your video, and sees how subpar their hotel is. Highest in the world or not, that was under all criticism! You on the other hand, You made a great video and a great review!
Tim you should definitely consider coming to Macau once. There’s a lot of interesting hotels and restores for you to explore. The biggest casino, the biggest resort, the most Michelin stars, it all to be found in the resorts there.
Or even try Sanya on Hainan Island in China....warm all the year round.... cheap 4 star hotels and it's like Hawaii...friendly people and no loud Americans!
That's why they need to bring back the old fashioned but special touch of the elevator attendant. I do love that rooftop pool area. Staff should not be clogging up lifts
I’ve been staying in the four points accross the street last week. 43rd floor with road view, looking onto the Gevora hotel. Lovely, convenient area. Great video btw!
Tim, you should definitely get lessons on the piano. It's really not very expensive and you've got to learn another song! The only song we have ever heard is the EastEnders. True story there are many songs that you could learn that would be quick and easy to learn then you could say you're taking lessons for the piano!!! Then we can all live vicariously through you, 😆
Early on in the video, when you mentioned the porter only showed you to room 1 (of 5); I assumed he was too embarrassed to show you the rest of the penthouse due to all the list of things you observed that fell very short of expectations even if you got a good deal / price for the rooms e.g. level of dirtiness, hanging wires and cables, lack of spare or un-used wall sockets, TVs not working fully, no hot water, carpets not vacuumed regularly, manual window blinds, "used" bed sheets odour...the list goes on! 😮
Creepy disappointment… 😰😅 Thank you for trying this out for us! And all these expensive hotels… they almost all have these ugly carpets 😖 And the furniture is pure cheap…😬 And I thought I was missing out on something 😂
Thank you Tim for sharing your vlog. Just wow!! That is a gigantic penthouse!!! More like mini house 🏠 😅 I must say you should of shared how many people you thought you can fit in that shower "room!!" I say about 20!! A pity one window was taped up by silver tape & the fittings for charging ya phone was a bit dodgy. 🤔 Overall a good video by you. Check out the Hilton Dubai Palm Jumeirah if you haven't as yet 😀 😉
Thank you Tim for the video and having to put up with this crappy hotel. Build quality is very substandard and cleanliness leaves something to be desired. At the swimming pool you summed things up “tacky”. All the best from Sydney Australia 🇦🇺
It’s just an apartment building, build, then bought as rental flats. Therefore there is a fully fitted kitchen, but as there is an added fire risk as well as issue with food smell sticking to fabrics, due to open kitchen/livingroom.
This place is another level. No cheap wood flooring either, too noisy if the building sways in the wind. Awesome 👍However I’ve just seen the wire and sellotape on the window 😮

Thanks for the info and the correct perspective on things.
i hope the gas or electricity was cut in case someone tried to go rogue
The fact that it was originally built as a residential tower explains a few other things like the lack of a service elevator for the cleaning staff.
Las Vegas hotels are much better. Tim stayed in a couple.
@@JJJKKOKJAY no, not at all.

Hope the boating trip with Gaby is going well at the mo anyway!! x J x
I bet that table will get a few longer screws and put back in place.
As a former manager of a 5 Star hotel, that penthouse was a disgrace in so many ways.
More like he stole your MacBook and iPad 😅
@ I bet that’s what he was trying to do lol, hoping I’d think I left it somewhere else
Was it room 1408? 😮
Man, that penthouse really gives off a 70's rundown motel vibe. Certainly not worth the 1400 euro's a night they're asking.
More than 1400 € , do your conversions good
Really, who ever decorated this penthouse is very stupid. Why not set only some big curtains instead of lots of smaller ones?
1400 sounds incredibly cheap having in mind how many people can sleep there.

I worked in a five star hotel in 1997. The hotel has two staff lifts, and the staff is not allowed to use guest lifts.
Why is that? I stayed in 5 star hotel called meriton and had staff n guest only lifts but saw a staff use guest is that not ok?
@@JR.4740 Every hotel has different rule. The one I worked, the staff will be told off if use the guest lift. As I know, the staff lift goes to basement (where the laundry is and etc.) and roof which is different compare to the guest one. And those lifts run much quicker than the guest lifts. 🤣

This is my absolute favourite video! You made me laugh so much with the piano and singing all about the things that wouldn’t work 😂

This made me very nervous when I watched this. I think the combination of it being so high and there being cables and air conditioning ducts hanging out the window 😬
Defo wouldn't lean on the glass lol
This looks like a 3 star hotel. Not worth every penny
1.) Poor lift management
2.) Cleaner should have/use maintenance lift
3.) Dull interior, poor room facilities & maintenance
4.) Seriously, all curtains need to be adjusted manually, is this a joke
yes, i was in cleaner hostels
It makes the Britannia ones look like the Ritz. What a dump!
@hazelanderson1479 you obviously haven't stayed in The Adelphi in Liverpool 😂
I thought the cleaners used a lift just for them and maintenance. Someone could fall stepping over those cleaning supplies!!!😠
It's a 6 year old hotel. Insane.
OMG, the Christmas lights in the restaurant.!The stained furniture, the light cords. The windows are filthy. The duct tape. They should have payed you to stay there!
Yep should have complained and got a price reduction🤑🤑
Major misappropriation of capital letters.
The Gevora Hotel is a 4 star hotel, not 5.
Wah my penthouse wasnt good enough, get a life man
The star rating isn't about the quality of hotels, it's about the amenities they offer 🙂 but yeah, I agree it's a shithole😂

This "Penthouse" looks grubby and has the most awkward arrangement. I wouldn't feel comfortable there.

Hope you're having a great time out there. xx
The squeaky doors, when you went above the guest floor and that dodgy electric socket next to the swimming pool….shocking!
Again, I always love watching your hotel reviews, tours, etc because who knows if I have the chance to experience such 😆 This feels like a free peep on how luxury life looks like.

Great video, but it def doesn't compare to the atlantis the royal ... it was amazing !
apparently the hotel was finished 2018! quite shocking that it gives of a vibe of maybe a neglected 90s hotel
@@mramaretto114 I am not 100% sure, but I think this hotel is "party" hotel in Dubai. A lot on younger people seem to like it. So you can of get that from the Penthouse. Not sure why they don't maintain in better. It is not a cheap hotel, so what gives?
The hotel needs a major overhaul.

Blimey Tim!.. When you got stuck on that floor after getting off the elevator and had to take the stairs, I thought you’d got lost in The Backrooms! 😂
That was hilarious, especially when he was pulling the door on his floor and it wasn’t opening!
Clearly they've cut a few corners. Makes you wonder how the building would operate in the event of a fire
You aren’t supposed to use a lift in a fire so you’d be fucked going down 72 flights of stairs on foot. If the fire didnt kill you, you’d probably die of a heart attack 😅
Agree I kept thinking of The Towering Inferno. Those dodgy electrics.
That was my thought as well with all the electrical issues. You couldn't pay me to stay there.
@@fatmike01 Well, that's assuming the staircase doors were unlocked on all the floors, unlike the one Tim tried.

Stunning light and views (thanks for opening the blinds). Then it went a bit downhill.
😂
The opulence of this city is nauseating
Went there in the early 2000s . We got a good and reasonable hotel that was simpler but cleaner. There was so much traffic travelling around by bus took ages. So much building construction was going on and it was dusty and polluted. Guess must have changed a lot since then.
yep. especially when you think of the conditions for the people who actually built it.
Its like the Land of Oz...
Whilst the penthouse has lots of rooms, they tell you to only use one for cleaning purposes, they do not clean the other rooms unless its a group or conference so occasionally people use other rooms which get ignored on cleaning
🤮
Yep my thoughts exactly.
This was my assumption as well. They only prepared the one room. Maybe even didn't turn on the hot water, AC, or TVs in the others.
You always make an effort in all vids tim, like I say the best on you tube. Which really sets the bar quite high for you but you can do it if anyone can. 😊
Wow, thanks!

Subscribed to your channel last week and I have become a fan, loved the tours of the atlantis hotels and now looking forward to this.
When I was in the Navy, when we'd hit port, a bunch of us would usually get together and stay in the most expensive hotels at the place we were visiting and just share the room then split the cost.
This would be perfect for that occasion! Everyone gets a room and no one has to sleep on the couch or floor 😂
This was one of your most enjoyable videos!
The size, frosted glass panelling and all those hard, shiny surfaces make it look like an office, not a hotel room.
Loved this one again, Tim. The suite indeed needs an update. It wasn't loved lately. Appreciate you taking this one for the team! ;-)
