ABOUT ME
Hi! My name is Margot and I am a professional artist and graphic designer. My parents like to joke that I was born with a paintbrush in hand. I started my career after graduating from the renown Parsons School of Design in New York City and spent over 15 years creating and designing for many of the world's top Fortune 500 brands and companies. My painting journey started as a side project and a creative outlet for me to step away from the computer, go back to my "roots" in fine art and to hone my skills as an illustrator and painter. I started posting some of my work on instagram and the rest is history. My work is inspired by all the things that I am passionate about. Ballet, travel, graphic design, color and finding a world of beauty in all facets of everyday life. I hope you'll join me in this UA-cam journey as I take you through all the tips, tricks and trade secrets I've gathered throughout the years. I hope I can teach you some of what I know, help you discover your creative voice and I hope you enjoy this Channel!

This video was excellent; however the title is misleading. I thought it was a video about not buying so many brushes. I have been looking for something about brush care and I glossed over this many times🥺
I knew an art teacher that used a little mousse to help the brush dry back into shape.
How interesting!
Thanks for the baby shampoo tip, although I have a small container of the brush cleaner you mentioned. I use a metal holder that let's me dry my brushes vertically with the brush tips pointed downward.
Those vertical brush holders are terrific and it doesn’t get more ideal than that! Hope the shampoo tip helps! 💕
I usually leave my brushes covered in a towel to dry, with that said I desperately need to try the baby shampoo thanks for the advice 😍
Give it a go and let me know what you think! 😉
Great information 😊
Thank you. That was very helpful.
Oh I’m so glad!
I use a PaintPuck which has hanging spaces around the edge that you stick the brush in upside down so that all the water drips away from the handle/ferrule etc and they're usually nicely dry by the next day.
Thanks!
You’re welcome!!
I have this contraption. It’s a springy curlicue thing across the top with a water catcher on the bottom. After you clean your brush just place it in between a groove and it hangs upside down. You can fit quite a few and next day I take them all out bone dry back in the brush jars
If I ever leave the brush on a paper towel I have a cloth rolled underneath so it’s still very slightly angled down for water to travel down. It doesn’t mess up the point of your brush at all
I know exactly the contraption you're talking about! Looks so very useful!
Hi Margot yeah I was guilty of nearly drilling a hole into the bottom of the glass jar with my brush and being ad bit too rough with it but after losing a good brush, ( I was like I was drilling for oil!) 😂😂.I got wise and realised as you said it wasn't necessary. and also good brushes don't come cheap these days and sometimes that same great to brush isn't as easy to find the second time round. Or it could be discontinued. And the heartbreaker is had a person looked after the one they had they'd have it and have it for years down the line and never have to look for it again. Things are so often deleted or discontinued these days and you might not ever see that brush again. So they vary well worth looking after. Sometimes you might get lucky and find better but when you're in love with a certain brush and a lot of artists do get attached to certain brushes because of the versatility of one they can do so much with, then it's worth wrapping that one in cotton wool and showing that brush some deep love and not abuse it. You know what I mean. Some brushes are a dream to have. So I copped on to myself. It's a lesson well learned. And Margot I find the baby shampoo is brilliant for brushes and keeps them in great condition. I was very tempted to use the 2 in 1 baby shampoo and am so glad you talked me out of that one. I watched this now and thank you for telling us about that. Thank you Margot for all the advice and all that you do to help us. Much love always. Susan xxx ❤❤❤❤💐👍🎨
Thanks for these tips! I’m guilty of pressing my brush against the button of my water container. Swirling the brush in the water just doesn’t rinse out the finer pigments.
Thanks for sharing! I think that not all swirls are created equal 😉 The amount of pressure does matter so if you do need to do it, making sure you’re gentle with it will make all the difference 👍
@@Pointebrush Thanks. I still prefer to “paint” with my brush on the bottom or the sides of the container.
Try tapping it against the inside of the glass a few times, in between swirls. And change your water more frequently?
@@LCLand Thanks for the advice. I don’t tap my brush but I do slide it along the sides/walls of my container to check how clear the water is. I don’t want to keep changing my water, it feels like a waste. Using two water containers helps a lot and keeps waste to a minimum 🙂
I’m guilty of everything you pointed out 😳. I need a watercolor brush maintenance makeover! 😁
EDIT thank you for the tips!
Haha! Hey, no judgment coming from me because I used to do the same too! Glad it’s helpful! 👍
Hi Shadow!
@@awatercolourist hello awatercolourist! Hope you’re well!
@@Pointebrush last night I let my brushes dry horizontally. 😁
@@shadowguard3578 All good, thanks! I’m glad your taking better care of your brushes 🙂
Great reminder to not smash your brushes
Not first today! I blame My painting session 😄
Totally worth it if you ask me. No need to be the first, just get back to your painting! 😜👍
@@Pointebrush Yeah, but I missed your video. I’ll watch now; I haven’t watched it yet.
LOL!
