My mother passed away last month due to pneumonia and your tutorial gave me one of the best memories of her. My sister had purchased a new guitar at the time and I was tuning it so it was playable. My mother had walked in and asked if I knew "that one song that goes 'hey now, hey now'". I had JUST learned how to play it because of your tutorial. I hit the first chord and her face brightened up so much as I played. I cannot thank you enough for that memory and I cannot hear that song without breaking down.
I first heard this tune in 1987. Just drove out to Los Angeles from New Orleans by myself. Was riding around Hollywood Blvd one late morning in the passenger seat, this tune came on and I just disappeared into it. Pretty surreal moment. Have loved this tune ever since!
Neil Finn is probably my favorite musician. I have seen solo, the brothers and the Crowdies multiple times. He is such an incredibly charming guy in addition to being an amazing songwriter. One reason I like your videos is the background info. You have such a genuine enthusiasm and appreciation for the music and the production.
I watch many tutorials and many YT instructors don't play things exactly as what is on the record, except for you. The details from your videos are hands down the best my friend.
As a huge fan of Neil Finn and Crowded House, who's watched and listened to this song probably a thousand times, I can say this is by far the most accurate and authentic sounding tutorial I've seen on it. Subscribed!
Great video! This is literally one of my favorite songs of all time. Absolutely beautiful song with great lyrics and harmonies. I've actually been waiting for this lesson. Keep picking great songs.
I not only love your teaching songs of my generation, i also love your back stories to these songs..ive followed you for a little over a year and i feel ive become a more solid intermediate level player..its special to be able to play the songs i grew up with..and the chicks like being sang to so thank you for helping me improve my dating life! : )
Shut Up Absolutely so great that you did this song. I always loved it so much as well as Split Enz, the Finns etc. I think its the harmonic movement? and melody, it's beautiful. That ear you have is sick.
Absolutely top notch instruction and fantastic playing...I've been trying to put my finger on your teach style and it finally hit as I was watching this video. It's like the late painter Bob Ross meets guitar instruction :)
I've also tried it at Capo III with the C sus 2 opening chord...the one nice thing about playing that way is it allow for more fluid hammer-ons, pull-offs etc that can be fun to include..
You're a really great teacher, you helped me learn one of my favourite solos ever- I Can't Tell You Why by The Eagles so I'm extremely grateful. I was just wondering if you had any more of The Eagles songs you was going to teach? :) thank you
We perform this song in an accoustic duo set we're doing - I play the part that is shown here and the singer - guitarist does the capo stuff sounds pretty well together
I'm from Australia, even though Neil Finn is from New Zealand, we Aussies adopted him, Crowded house had a lot more great songs, one that comes to mind is Four Seasons in one day, and there is a great Split Enz song called Message to my girl, just another great song from a talented song writer. Also not sure if you have heard the acoustic version of INXS Don't Change, but i think that would make a great lesson.
A very good lesson and i must say that you nailed the guitar tone perfectly, almost gave me goosebumps because i love this song so very much. This song and also "I just died in your arms tonight " by Cutting Crew must be the best songs i have ever heard in my life!!! Well done😉👍!!!! Br Daniel
Bro, super stoked to learn this - cheers; such a cool way of teaching guitar. i just returned to New Zealand after years abroad, bought a sweet new Taylor GSmini today and wow, loving this crazy-beautiful and nostalgic tune. yep, those brothers wrote amazing music. nicely done. que bueno, amigo, genial. i'll look up more of your demos and lessons, now, f'sure. thanks again. keep sharing the goodness. you're a true master.... it's really no surprise, but I heard a great Italian cover of this song - which has always been hugely popular over there, too. infact they argued it was a classic Italian song at first! good music crosses borders, oceans, stereotypes and brings people together. Viva Crowded House!
This guy is the best guitar teacher on all of UA-cam, this is a magical tune. and Crowded House is the best band (besides the mighty AC/DC) to come out of Australia.
I'm so glad to see it's a tutorial without Capo. Not the cables are the world LOL. And sometimes a person's hands can't do it anymore or it's just easier. But I was trying to learn without a capo. I had most of it down but for one place
once again... thank you Andy! you SO rock sometimes... woo hoo! if you only knew how much time you have saved me before rehearsals from time to time. And I really like how you play it like he does in the crowded house video. thank you 4 uploading the lesson!
I really like the way you teach. Is there any way possible that that you could give a lesson on how to play "Radar Love" by Golden Earring? Thank you for these great videos.
This is just a helluva lesson of a killer song. Would you mind sharing with us your tremolo and delay pedals´ adjustments so that we can also have a better starting point with our own gear? Thanks in advance from Brazil! Juarez
I wanted to say thank you for your channel. Very informative and articulate on the guitar parts. Just for fun I thought I would ask you if you ever heard of "" THE ANALOUGES "" ?? THEY are from the Netherlands and perform all their renditions in a second language. IF YOUR a Beatles fan you will really enjoy their music
You're an absolute beast. The subtle things. The small things that you highlight. Bravo ! Have you ever heard of the soul singer Maxwell ? I would love to see a proper guitar instruction on "Whenever Wherever Whatever" by him. One of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. You rule brother.
Could you PLEASE do a tutorial on Who's behind the door by Zebra? Most of what I find on the internet is in standard tuning but it is really tuned GGDGBD 12 string according to Randy Jackson. I'm really enjoying your UA-cam channel.
I there an easy way to get the drum and bass track in order to practice like you did on the video? I tried stripping voice and guitars using Audacity and Transcribe but had little success! Great lesson by the way!
I think on the recording they play this a full step down...maybe I'm wrong but when I played along in standard A440 pitch it was off...when I tuned it down a full step it was spot on.
I agree! Not only a genius, but a very hard worker! Saved me hours and hours of work. Thanks! Btw, if one wants to emulate organs, cellos, flutes, sax, Rhodes pianos etc, ( without a midi guitar) check out these 2 stomp boxes: Mel9 and Key9, both by ElectroHarmonex. Not as good as Midi samples, but damn close and a lot easier. Demos here on UA-cam.Respectfully,Hooch
Didn't realize how good some of these 80's guys were when I was there (other things on my mind:-) . Funny how really looking at the songs reveals how talented some of them were.
Could you do a lesson on Terrapin Station? I can't get enough of the cover version on the recent Day of the Dead tribute album. It's definitely worth a listen.
Can I make a request? Can you do Achilles last stand? I don't need the whole thing, just those little funky parts after the solo. I can also handle all of the overdubs too, but for the life of me I can't figure those little funky chords out.
I really like this sound I think this guitar is gipson les paul but what a model with two pick-ups and what other accessories are used if somedy can tell me thèse information Thank-you
Always watch your Videos , You are truly passionate about your craft . In the Late 80's I played with Dick Wagner( Alice Cooper & Lou Reed Guitarist/Songwriter ) , But now , I enjoy just playing in a really good Cover Band .I also enjoy Tim Pierce , He mentioned you on one of his videos about how good your video's are , and Tim Pierce is one of the top Session Guitarists around .You've put allot of work into your playing , I just thought you would like to hear how much you are appreciated. I just paused to tell you which one of your video tutorials was my favorite , but too many came to my thoughts.( Mississippi Queen was one ) Just keep "em coming , I would hate to have to go back to old school as I did in the late 70's and 80's with the turntable , and picking up the needle and placing it back and forth all day to figure out songs ...lol

You know it! The Finn brothers Tim and Neil from Aotearoa New Zealand! Unbelievable musicians.
Great video! This is literally one of my favorite songs of all time. Absolutely beautiful song with great lyrics and harmonies. I've actually been waiting for this lesson. Keep picking great songs.
Arguably one of the most beautiful songs ever written. Just for the record, capos are a pain in the ass!
Once you get used to them , they’re a MUST lol . Not “ always “ but great for versatility and songwriting 🤘🏻
My guitar sounds really awful with a capo on.

..the great Tim Pierce played guitar on that tune also , ..all the dreamy parts and single note accents.. stu ....great tune
In relation to why he plays the "C" shape with capo on 3rd, I think maybe it gives the song a bit more of that open space airy sound.
For the keyboards, Boss makes a pretty cool pedal (SY-1) that does a nice job approximating the sound of an organ.
Man, i love your tutorials. Hope you still give tutorials til the day i die
fantastic song and fantastic lesson!
