  • Hiya, sexy Sasquatches and sizzling sirens! This was a fun role play for me to make. Apologies for the outrageous background noise from my laptop fan. I actually used a bunch of noise reduction on the sound in this vid, but it's still a little loud.
The premise of this video is that you are coming into my center to participate in a research study that is analyzing a new form of personality assessment.
Here are the responses to the cards that I actually wrote out if you feel like reading them.
    Train tracks card:
Okay so, hmmm. This is two best friends embarking on a journey together. They decided that they have had enough with the life that they are living and decided to just up and leave together. The scenery in the picture makes it hard to place exactly where in time it is, so I'm just gonna say that it's present day. It's present day, but they are trying to do away with their modern, average, boring lives and go on an adventure together. They only have the clothes on their backs and their friendship and are planning on walking along the train tracks until they figure out the next part of their adventure. [What are they thinking and feeling?] One of the guys, the one closer to the middle of the tracks- his mind is racing. He's pretending to pay attention to what his friend is saying, but he can't stop thinking about how terrifying this is even though it's also thrilling. He's worried about how people at home will react to his sudden disappearance and at this point is starting to reconsider their adventure. He resolves to follow through, however and doesn't turn around. The other guy is just happy to finally be spending real quality time with his best friend. [Where are they 5 years from now?] They are back in their normal day to day grind, but I don't think that they mind. They went through a change during this adventure that has lasted with them until this day. I don't think that the trip lasted long. Maybe they never really had a chance, but they learned something about themselves and something about each other that they now keep with them in every moment.
    Window Staring Card:
Okay, so this woman has just finished meeting with a group of people. She had a gathering of some type. I think it was maybe her birthday, yeah her birthday party. She just turned 25 and now the weight of everything is just starting to hit her. She had a good time at the party, but was just about at her peak before people finally started leaving. This photo was taken after she had just broken down for a little bit. She wasn't really sure why, but it all became too much. Though she was surrounded by people who loved her, she felt very alone in the crowd and this is her sitting alone by the window in her apartment just trying to make sense of her feelings. [and what did she come to?] She came to the realization that she has been on autopilot. That years have slipped by and it's almost like she's waking up from a coma and not feeling completely oriented. Things are bright and loud and she just can't quite get her footing. She is longing for something to long for. I dunno.
    Girl in doorway card:
This woman is standing in the entry way of a building where someone is getting married. It's funny, it kind of bring that one song to mind by the goo goo dolls, iris. "And I don't want the world to see me, cause I don't think that they'd understand." I think that she is getting some air and hiding out while come things blow over inside. There is something different about her that she is afraid of revealing to all of the other guests if she spends too much time in the thick of it, you know? [what happened before?] So right before this, she is inside dancing around with everybody and she just feels like she has a build up of tension. She feels as though there is something about her that is at risk of being revealed. She doesn't feel that she should have to hide this aspect of herself, but feels required to in this situation. She steps outside when she feels like she is starting to act strangely. [what happens after?] She sees a friend of hers that is sort of like her rock. She runs to him and gives him a hug and suddenly feels grounded, like everything was actually okay and that it's okay to be different AND a part of everyone else at the same time. She is able to go back inside without anything bad happening and people hardly even noticed she was outside. [feeling?] In this moment she feels like she doesn't want to be seen as a fraud, that she has been working so hard for a certain thing and that part of herself is at risk of breaking before everyone's eyes.

This felt natural. It felt like you weren't acting at all, especially when you were discussing the responses. You took a drink, you chuckled, you thought things out, your hand movements, etc---little things that made this feel really authentic. I've always been impressed by your role plays (because you obviously know what you're doing, and you cover subject matter that isn't in other ASMR videos)---but this one felt warm too...disarming? Yup I am going with disarming. Great vid.

This was amazing and keeps reminding me that youtube can be a fantastic place full of nice people creating smart and surprising content. Its weird but i feel like videos show better what sharing is that most of "real life" interactions!
    Anyways, thanks a lot!

"Everything has happened so quickly and yet you haven't felt present in that moment."
You just hit one of what I perceive as my biggest issues when it comes to actually living the life I want to. I live in a perpetual state of nostalgic reverie because I feel like my childhood ended very abruptly due to some life events.
I loved this video, Robert. I really hope you do more of these as a series if they are fun for you to make. You came off so naturally and relaxed the hell out of me!

Soo I'm not all that much of a commenter on ASMR videos, but sometimes I really just feel the need to speak on how incredibly helpful these videos can be, and I'm so grateful for you in particular! The effort you put in to this RP is really astounding, especially when you realize that as an ASMRtist you are mostly just doing the internet multiple favors w/o getting anything in return. So here's me saying that you are a very gracious and lovely person, and I really appreciate all that you do! xx

It really depends on the context. If I was doing this for a psychotherapy client, then I would definitely bring it up. If it was more exploratory, then I would probably just discuss how it might be playing out in their life without feeling like I need to have a specific label. In most cases, you are required to provide a diagnostic interpretation in a report, so it would definitely be there.

  • @duffthepsych
    @duffthepsych  11 років тому

I think it's true in some cases that being removed a little bit through the internet affords people more "space" to open up or be authentic.

Great video for a start. I rather enjoyed this.
Unfortunately for myself, I was watching this on the screen of my iPhone, so the images weren't as clear as they would have been on a computer.
What concerned me was my story for the last image. To me, it looked like a little girl standing in the doorway of an abandoned house that was haunted. Her father always warned her about the place and told her to never enter the premises. One day, the girl was walking home alone, when she heard whispers coming from inside the house, she walked into the doorway (where the photo was taken) and sees two white eyes glowing back at her. Needless to say, she disappears and is never found again.
The fact that I came up with that moments before going to bed actually scares and worries me. I like the answers you read back. I might just pretend they were mine all along.
Thank you for the video though :)

    Question:
Do you benefit from the UA-camRed?
I'm considering paying for it bc I listen to ASMR on my phone while I paint (which is how I help pay the bills) and realized my top 3 ASMR-its have purchasable content. I'm basically just trying to make sure I don't pay for things I'm not using meanwhile not paying for things I would use in a way that benefits the actual person not an overhead only.
