- Although Elvis won three Grammy awards during his lifetime it is little known that he was also nominated for a further eleven including one in the Best Sacred Performance category in 1968 for the studio master of this very song.
'You'll Never Walk Alone' was written by Rodgers and Hammerstein for their 1945 musical 'Carousel' and Elvis recorded his version on 11 September 1967. It was in fact the last of seven songs recorded that night at RCA's Studio B in Nashville, Tennessee.
Despite it's Grammy nomination in the UK the version recorded by Gerry and the Pacemakers is the better known especially after it was adopted as an anthem by two of the world's biggest football clubs, Liverpool and Celtic.
Despite being released as a single and achieving a Grammy nomination it would take over three years before it would make it onto an album of any sort. Although the title track of the album, the album was released on RCA's budget label - Camden and this seemed to be a corporate strategy in the early 70's as far as Elvis was concerned as several of his best known songs were released in a similar way.
This, with Elvis at the piano and recorded during the evening show in the Nassau Veteran Coliseum, Uniondale, NY on 19 July 1975 is the only known live performance of 'You'll Never Walk Alone' by Elvis. I often wonder how many in the audience that evening actually realised just how unique a moment they were witnessing!!
Listening to this performance and Elvis' vocal it doesn't seem like eight years had passed between this live performance and the original studio master!
What a privilege to hear this rare surprise.
Non ho parole da dire per elogiarti al massimo: come te NESSUNO, ne ora ne mai!😥🙏🏼😥🙏🏼😥🙏🏼😥🇮🇪
A great song by the greatest singer of the 20th century 🎶 Elvis played the Piano as he sang this.

This brings tears to my eyes. Its better than the record! Cant believe he only sang this once live! Imagine having footage of this like we do of Unchained melody 🩷😭
You can imagine that Elvis often was playing this song at the piano with his musicians.

YEh! i know about this one, I don't know if it's been took down or not, Cause i can't find it, It was
on a live Album on You tube, And he Finishes the song and gets a Standing Ovation, And he says
to the band Take it from the chourus, And he does it from Walk on once more for the crowd, And
Does And even more Powerful Top Note to Impress them. Anyway Like i said, Goose Bumps
My friend, He should have sung it all the way through, Cause his Version is Jaw dropping. Thanx
For Putting this on you tube though, It's Great to listen to Rare stuff that you wouldn't hear as a rule
If it wasn't for people like you putting it on, Great stuff Pall.
Wow. I searched for this after reading Peter Guralnick’s book, “Careless Love”. He wrote: “…in Elvis’ case the hope expressed in the lyrics seemed balanced by a tone that reflected a heart-rending, almost desperate struggle for belief.”
Same here. I just finished it a few minutes ago. Guralnick did an incredible job. And it is a joy to explore the gems that Elvis created in the last ten years of his life, a period that I had always given little attention.
@@petercrocker6192 Yes! His are the best books I’ve read on Elvis. I discovered so much that I didn’t know about Elvis, and while he was most definitely a flawed human like the rest off us, he was a beautiful soul, and that soul rang out in his music.
To see that Elvis relied so much on feel when recording and performing, and to realize how much he just got off on music, has been a revelation and a thrill.
And if you haven’t read it, Guralnick’s Sam Phillips bio is also outstanding.
@@petercrocker6192 yes, it was amazing, and I think that’s why his music is still so relevant and partly why it was so revolutionary.
I haven’t read his biography on Sam Phillips, but I have heard of it. I’ll definitely read it soon!
Here exactly for the same reason. I’m on an emotional roller coaster from Careless Love although all these books end the same I always fall apart. I love this song but to hear him play piano and sing live is wonderful.
An opera singer
Beautiful Gospel song ❤️
I love this song you never walk alone
Wow 😳
Awsome never heard before 🎤
Wonderful
One & Only The King!!!!! ❤
tcb king i hope to meet you !
I wish this was recorded by RCA, thank you for the upload of this wonderful performance. I was wondering if you could upload the last time he performed never been to Spain?
August 1974
I wish we could hear what he’s saying after the song there’s so much screaming going on. I mean I could imagine the excitement but I wish I could hear what he saying and I cannot believe that this was never recorded. What at least a video of the show singing this song.
@@joycerecupero6559 It most likely was recorded, but it resides in Bruce Jackson’s collection waiting to be released.
@@joycerecupero6559 Elvis is reading a fan’s sign that “Ronkomkoma Loves You.” This is the name of a New York (“Long Island “)town that comes from a Native American heritage. Elvis stumbles on the pronunciation and then gets it right.
💚💛❤💜💙💖🧡
he was thinking of re-recording this song back in july 1973 if that handwritten song list is actually from ep
Is this particular version has never been released by FTD or any other bootleg company in soundboard quality Of course you can buy the studio version of it which is great but this live version is amazing I hear rumors though that it's coming and this is from my dear friend who is one of the biggest Elvis collectors in the world he knows people L o l
This has been released titled America's Own Volume 2 by Claudia Record Company -CD 070972. I was also at this concert on that Saturday night at the Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale N.Y. as this was the best concert of Elvis that I ever attended.
❤
I’d love to buy this version of the song, is it available to buy anywhere that you know of? I know it’s an audience recording but the passion in this song wasn’t too common in this particular time period for him.
Reason you'll never walk alone was song
During afternoonshow elvis started picking on his backing groups
Colonel Parker found out and told him to apologise
