Sometimes people come into our life for a brief moment, but leave a huge impact in our life. In February 1983, I was flying to Ohio to bury my mother. With me were my young children and husband. My daughter was 6 years old at the time and really didn't understand why I was so sad. Our plane stopped in Newark NJ, as passengers were departing the plane, my daughter would say good bye to them. Most just smiled at her and kept moving a long. All except one kind gentleman, who stopped to speak with her, as I looked up, I realized it was the one and only Mr. Johnny Cash. Mr. Cash took a few moments of his time to speak with my daughter. I must say the kindness he showed to her filled my heart beyond words. I have never forgotten that moment. Such a beautiful, kind and loving human being ❤️
Thanks for sharing. What a kind and gentle spirit he still is! He keeps inspiring others through his words, stories and songs. This final performance warmed our hearts and brought tears to our eyes ...
Yep I agree . He was never considered the best voice by his own admission , but his story telling through song was unmatched . So yes the pain in his voice was evident , but many of his ballads include that same strain ! Like Johnny Cash - Pain . That song is phenomenal 🙏
Yes also the fact he sang the song they used at his beloveds service. He shared that with us. Even his older songs became so much more in his anthology series.
The man was weak, in pain, physically spent..and then he played and sang the legendary songs like he knew he must do one last time. 8 weeks later we lost him.THE MAN IN BLACK did it one last time.
I’m in my 70s now, and watching this reminds me how fast it goes. I’ve been disabled for a long time, and it takes so much humility to ask for help. Johnny has that humility. I met him and his wife down town Kingsport on board street. My mom and I had gone into Wallace’s news stand to get some popcorn I was about 7or 8 yrs old. And Wallace said “we got a star in here today!” He told us Johnny cash was down there at the end of the store looking at magazines. My mom and I walked up to him, and I said hello Mr. cash! He said hey there little lady! Which one of my songs is your favorite? I said all of them ! He told us June was in an antique store across the street. We walked over and said hello and I got both of their autographs! It was so exciting! He was a tall man with a studious presence! He had huge hands as I remember when he shook my tiny little hand. A deep bellowing voice I’ll never forget it. June was as sweet and country and so nice. It’s one of my fondest memories as a child at Wallace’s news stand.
This brought tears to my eyes. My father, who loved this music, passed away 8 years ago. Now I am in my mid-50s. Life goes so quickly. One minute you are 18 and full of energy the next you are 80 barely able to stand. I sure miss this music and lifestyle. The world has changed. Thanks, Johnny for all the great memories and songs. RIP

Apparently the 596 dislikes have no idea when they’re listening to greatness! Not only a great song writer, Mr Cash was also a great human being especially in his latter years. His music is inspiring, heartfelt and deep! I really enjoy his last few songs he wrote and played! What a great Christian at least in his last few years!! A person can learn a lot from the good and bad Johnny Cash lived!!
Greatness my ass, apparently you had no problem with him abusing drugs and the way he treated women wasn't exactly very nice at all. It's like this, John R. Cash made the choices that he made and they caught up with him, ya can't treat others like crap and expect to live a happy healthy life point blank. So if people chose to thumbs down it oh well they had their reasons just like you have your reasons to be a boot licking Cash fan. To each their own, deal with it and stop whining like a baby!
First off I’m not whining about anything, merely expressing my opinion just like you did. As for a “ Boot licking Cash fan “ I’m a fan of great lyrics and the people who write them! I agree with your comments about his life, you reap what you sow! More than some, not as many as others, I’ve sown my share of bad seeds but I’ve also changed in the last 30+ years. What I meant was people could leave from him, what to do and what not to do, how to live and how not to live, a person could learn a lot from him!
I was raised with Johnny, Waylon , Merel , Willie , and many more .. these people today dont know nothing about these times . Sad to see the Generations Change . Country ain't Country no more . As they die off as has my parents , and grandparents so does these Times , Sad to say it's about gone . Its changed and I dont like it one bit 😔
Couldn’t have said it better. Brings a smile to my face and tear to my eye to know we have almost no legends left of the country music world. This man broke those walls down of country music and a lot more people need to cherish those history listens.
Even as old as he was, as brittle as he became, he still knew how to give a guitar a good picking. Bless you Johnny, may you keep the heavens forever entertained.
You can hear the pain in his voice. It was two months after June has passed. Can you imagine just singing like this knowing it's your last time, and the memories flood your mind as you sing. His songs were his life. It's crazy to know his beginning but to see his end. Life is always a cycle, but, when you see it, like you do here, it's always sad to see what's gone, even though time passes on and our bodies do not. Johnny Cash you'll always be great!
Cash is a very talented singer and he has these magical voices and lyrics that I love 💕 his songs will never be forgotten 😊. Since when have you been listening to Mr Cash songs ?
I am George Hicks, Bluff City Tennessee. I went to the Carter Family Fold museum. Johnny Cash's chair was there and is probably still is .There was a sign in the chair that said. "Do not sit in chair." A museum worker ask. " you look like you really like Johnny ? I said I do .He removed the sign and said Have a seat in Johnny's Chair. I did, it was huge. I could never be man enough to fill Johnny's chair. The museum worker explained that Johnny had that chair taken along with him everywhere he went. I will never forget. That's a BIG DEAL. "IT REALLY IS"

@@fionagold7257 - I have been listening to Johnny Cash and his music since 1976 where I was 13 years old -and you are right - he had an unique and amazing voice - absolutely !!
"Hello I'm Johnny Cash",, must be the most iconic opening of all time,,.. gives me goosebumps every time i hear it... R.I.P sir johnny cash, thank you for all the great music.
Everybody always knew age wasn’t gonna stop him he was a fighter he was also very passionate about his work in the music business and I think he enjoyed it twice as much after meeting and touring with June in his earlier years
ABSOLUTELY! I'd Rather Watch This Than Anything Out There Today! They Really Had To Work For What They Got; And Back Then, That Wasn't Very Much! Compared To Their Hard Work!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Him having to be helped to sit down broke my heart, both my grandparents were the same age but never went through that. But that's what drugs do to you, take them for 5 years and you're body will shut down 5 years early. Johnny Cash deserves a statue though right in the middle of Nashville.

Exceptionally rare to see a man muster up and show so much courage. What an adamant soldier Mr. Cash was. He lived for music and the generations to come will be eternally thankful for that. We love you Johnny.
@@alanmcintosh8087 Couldn't agree more. And even if you ran out of new songs to find from him, the old ones transform in meaning complitely as one gets more life under his belt
Seeing Johnny having to be helped up with some struggle was heartbreaking. However he still got up like a soldier. RIP John. You will always be remembered
My wife of 51 years just passed away on Valentines night( 11:01) How I miss her so much.. But, I know this is an old taping.. but I do know that the love Johnny had for June and the love June had for him.. I have that kind of love for my bride.. Miss her so much… Because He Lives! Malcolm Hanger
Johnny was devastated when his dear sweet wife June died, they say he died of a broken heart four months later. Rest in peace Johnny, you are loved by millions.
@@seanhanna2940 Technically, he died from diabetes, but i truly believe a broken heart was also there. He didn't care to live anymore , probably just gave up......
I can't watch this without crying. I grew up watching and listening to this man my entire life. Always loved his singing, songwriting, honesty and his total and complete love for June Carter. It hurts so bad that he's gone.

Every thursday night , Johnny Cash Show , many memories i am 68yrs GOD bless John and June snd the whole carter family , the Statlers Carl Perkins. ,and others , Thank You!
I true legend. Almost 4 decades ago my husband and I entered a restaurant and they sat us in the next table where him and his wife were dining. It was heaven to see him up close. And no, I didn't ask for an autograph, took a picture, or in any way disturb them. They were at that restaurant, just a married couple enjoying a nice dinner together. Nobody disturbed them, and I was very happy about it because everyone deserves private peaceful time.
Oh my. That must have been hard to not talk to them. I'm glad they had a nice evening without being disturbed. I doubt they had many times like that. ❤️
Absolutely agree, to be able sit in the same room as your heroes is blessing enough. I met Paul Weller. He heard me say to a friend that Paul Weller the legend from the Jam, he laughed and offered to sign my construction hat. I lost the hat somewhere. Gutted but great to see your musical heroes. Johnny cash and June carter just amazing
I miss this songs so much and makes me homesick of Alton Illinois where I leaved for two lovely years . Hod bless you whose songs made all of us over 70s so happy. Now I leave here in Brazil very thankful for my friends and bodies at Lewis Clark College on Godfrey Illinois, God bless you all.
For many years I listened to his music as a child with my dad at night on our front porch steps as we listened to the skip come in from Ohio to Alabama where we lived. Wonderful memories of my Dad & of Johnny Cash. Now both of them are in heaven & I can't help but feel my dad & he are singing the old country songs together.
Johnny Cash showed up at Sun records in Memphis and asked to play and sing gospel songs. He was a truly loving person and we can't wait to see and hear him again in Heaven. That day is coming soon for all of us. God bless you.😊
He is an inspiration from himself only man that sung from experiences in jail life..Ain't that for real..great seeing him singing..sorry he felt like singing on down to Stanton bless Johnny cash...Amen legendary musican ever known apart from very much more but they have all done duet's with this legendary musicians brilliant long live country which ever comes comes..hopefully it will compeate aith of the good old legendary country singer. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I used to think the young were spoiled but them going through a pandemic, constant geo-political tensions and overall bs when 20 something’s can’t even afford a house to start a family; I’m sure the young will have a lot to sing about!
Idk. I live in texas and this type of music is pretty popular out in the country. Im just 15 but I really appreciate JC and other people from that time :)
Man, if this doesn't bring a tear to your eyes you are Heartless, it had me when he spoke about his love for June, I had to pause the video as I couldn't get control of my emotions, now you and June are reunited in your immortal homes. God Bless you Johnny Cash and June Carter.
When Johnny was so fragile, helped to the stage and appearing so weak, I stopped breathing until he was seated. THEN!!! He picked up his guitar, introduced himself with that comforting and strong "Hello, I'm Johnny Cash", He proved that even in his time of grave challenges, his hands still looked young and his fingers could still strum with the rest of them , and better! Until the "End", he delivered. The way he played here and sang, was nothing short of Miraculous. There IS NO END to Johnny Cash! His Legacy of great music, facing hardship, raw insight, wisdom and yes LOVE, will live on as he Rests in Peace along side of his Beloved June. His hand had trouble holding the water bottle but became strong when he played so well, his guitar. Even the "gravel" in his voice" was no deterrent to the joy of watching and listening to this Beautiful Man sing and play for the last time. Sigh!
@@andyhenriques5500 back in the 70s I used to listen the Johnny in my 1967 Mustang Fastback on the 8 track, hearing this takes me back, I feel those places, days like it was yesterday.
If there's one thing this concert can teach anyone. Its never doubt someone's ability to perform. Johnny couldn't walk, he was almost blind, he was clearly near the end of his life yet the moment he had a guitar in his hand, he played his songs perfectly. Rip Johnny
From when he said “hello I’m Johnny cash” I folded. I cried. And in school. Rip Mr. Cash. I grew up listening to you and so will my kids when the time comes. The world will not forget you.
9:35 This Sunday Morning version is one of the best ever done! Unbelievable, how much emotion he puts into the song. The stripped-down instrumentation and Johnny's weakening voice fit the feeling of the song perfectly. What an absolute legend!
I'm 58 and grew up listening to his record's, my parent's loved his music. I just cried listening to a legend nail it , like he did recording those record's. Rip MrJohnny Cash.
He was at home on stage singing his heart out god bless you johnny cash and thank you lord for all the wonderful music he gave us heres to the man in black
I am 81 years old, and we saw Johnny Cash live at the Knoxville Civic Center in the late 1960s. What a wonderful performance he gave! So very thankful he became a Christian and is with our Lord for eternity.
wow....total respect for the artist, the man and his soul...I discovered not a long time ago Johnny Cash. His voice is just fantastic. He is with us forever....
I was in High School in the 50's when Johnny came out with "I walk the line" I put many quarters in the juke box listening to it. I bought it on 45 and wore it out!!! Great music back then!
I discovered JR sat in the passenger seat of my dads truck as a boy in the 90’s. You’re so lucky to have had so much time to appreciate him. God bless you and Johnny Cash.
I don't know if to laugh or to cry... He's so diminished, but yes, he's still there and his music is engraved in everybody's mind. Also the lady who announces him: she's so shaky herself but burning for the music. And the guy with the cap in the background singing the lyrics... an intense moment of music and humanity, such a thin line between joy and despair
This was done after he had a stroke. This is called dedication and determination and the love of music and those that enjoyed his music. It took guts to get up there and do a set that lasted over 30 minutes.
Always been a fan of Johnny Cash, but this is just painful to watch. Makes me smile to see and hear him play and sing, but at the same time cry because he's gone. There will never be another Johnny Cash!
I always had happiest times, listening to Johnny and in this I see him so old and broken and reminds me that he's gone, My heart just hurts when I watch this and my tears subside
My dad loved Johnny Cash and when I was a kid I remember him playing the 8 tracks in his truck. I remember him paying so we could watch him perform with the Highwaymen on TV. His favorite song was a Boy named Sue. When Johnny and June passed the world lost one of the greatest country music acts to ever grace this planet with music. May they rest in peace and Bless the Heavens as they had Blessed us here on Earth.
I love Johnny Cash's songs he's one of the kind at least he one made one more time before he passed that's what he wanted God bless with all the family

I see no votes where the thumbs down symbol is?.... But, even if there were any thumbs down showing there, I Do notice the 10's of thousands of folks that have seen and watched this Historic video recording and have deep and heartfelt appreciation for it.
He took the time to talk to my 10 yr old son at a concert in our area, encouraging him to stay in school and 'help his mom.' My boy was so impressed that he had time to say a few words to him.
Johnny Cash has had many rough experiences and one of the most beautiful things is that he rode the waves and changed his life. Most inspirational man.
Yes. I hope Jack was standing inside the gates waiting to give him a big hug. The cash brother’s are together again and June will get to meet Jack finally
I'm sobbing, watching this today. Such a powerful and moving piece of work, seeing the juxtaposition of Johnny from many years ago and then seeing him months before his passing is heart-wrenching and bittersweet. We only have one life to live.. I miss the good old days when we had the best of country music, miss all the legends that we've lost. this song reminds me of so many people. RIP Johnny.
But we still love Johnny. He was a great performer. He loved his audience. His family is God let no man defame mankind we all have something. Love you Johnny.
It brought a tear to my eye, to realize that life is cruelly short and the more you know the more you realize that you don't know anything about anything! What a great performer!

Johnny and June were so very much in love and I strongly feel that not only did his health issues take his life, but I feel he died of a broken heart over the loss of June being gone. He was lost without her. They were each other's lives. May they both rest and in peace and be singing together again in Heaven. God bless them.
I think the reason johnny and june were so good together was their music . they complemented each other so well in their music . they both just had that awesome country sound and it worked . i still miss them both .

I am George Hicks, Bluff City Tennessee. I went to the Carter Family Fold museum. Johnny Cash's chair was there and is probably still is .There was a sign in the chair that said. "Do not sit in chair." A museum worker ask. " you look like you really like Johnny ? I said I do .He removed the sign and said Have a seat in Johnny's
Chair. I did, it was huge. I could never be man enough to fill Johnny's chair. The museum worker explained that Johnny had that chair taken along with him everywhere he went. I will never forget. That's a BIG DEAL. "IT REALLY IS"

Sigh!

Yes he was and still the best RIP Johnny
He was and remains one of the best! Watching this performance brings tears, especially his words to June. He is with her now. RIP
Yeah tears of joy hilarious that the old bastard tried to sing pure greed but he sounded terrible just like when he was younger.
You're not kidding. Love him forever. 💕
Being a Johnny Cash fan, it was hard to watch this great man , it just broke my heart.
No matter the circumstances, this is still good music in its own right.
I just see a man that had a wonderful life and gave us so much. Thank you Jonny Cash.
You can see the pain in his eyes and hear it in his voice after his dedication to June. The meaning and thought of it being foor her makes it hurt that much more.
never forget he was our hero, he gave us entertainment to the last. May he rest in peace. Dublin Ireland
It's not easy to see someone you care about become so frail in old age.
Rest in peace Johnny, you are one of the greats.
I'm totally not weeping like a child with tears in my eyes as I watch this magnificent legend do his thing,,.........🥺
Aye so true so true
I grew up listening to Johnny Cash on an 8 track and now I'm going old listening to and viewing Johnny Cash on UA-cam. His music will live forever. God has blessed us with this great man's gifts. He has lifted my spirits through his song and has likewise given hope and inspiration to the incarcerated. God bless you Johnny Cash.

I had the honor and privilege of interviewing him in 1986. All I can say is what a kind, sweet, compassionate human being he was. Truly a national treasure. His legacy will live on forever. Rest in peace Johnny. 🥲💔

What an amazing man!!!! Almost chair bound and still the same voice. It gives me çhills!!! He will never be forgotten.
Not even close to the same voice. It was heartbreaking to see him so sick and feeble. How disrespectful to him
@@paulajay473 Its the human condition, he wasnt paraded for this it was upon his request to perform. He wanted to share something at the last edge of being able too, and we all appreciated it. This is the most respectful way of honoring the man we could give.
@@paulajay473 This is definitely more disrespectful to say.
no, it´s totally not the same voice, but it´s natural, we all get old
