Elvis Presley - Return To Sender - 24 July 1975 - First Time Performed Live

There are just known live renditions by Elvis' of his 1962 worldwide hit "Return to Sender" from his movie "Girls! Girls! Girls!" the same year.
This first live rendition was performed in response to a request from an audience member at the last of Elvis three appearances in Asheville, the tour closing show of 24 July 1975 which concluded an excellent Spring and Summer of 75 in which Elvis had been in good voice and good humour and used a well varied setlist.
The final rendition, the only one on soundboard, was recorded during his Hampton Roads show on 1 August 1976 and was the highlight of an otherwise pretty uninspiring show.
As with all of these videos, to get the most out of the re-edited audio, I highly recommend you use ear /headphones and turn the volume up as much as you dare!

This was the second time performed live, he also did it on August 2, 1969.

That is quite possibly true Jack, however with no documented evidence, of the set lists from either of the shoes on that date, this remains the first rendition in that regard. It also possible however, that he also performed it isometime in the six years in between and perhaps a recording of that may surface.

@@officialJackElvisFisher I am not casting any doubt on the sincerity of that witness Jack, but memories do get blurred, particularly when over fifty years have elapsed. It is therfore imperatve that there is some sort of corroboration, either written or audio. This is critical before this rendition, which is currently universally accepted as being the first live rendition by Elvis. In addition, was it just one line, one verse or a full run through as an excerpt does not count as a bona fide rendition. One prime exoample of this is M Way where Elvis sang an excerpt on 4 September 1970 but the first live rendition is till 4 August 1972. I hope you understand why I am therefore unwilling to change the title of the video.
There are many written accounts of fans, such as Anne Nixon who wrote for Elvis Monthly for example, who said Elvis had performed songs at certain shows she attended but when audio from the show materialised, said songs were not in fact performed. This phenomenon has occured on many other occasions.
That being said, it is still interesting to think that there is a distinct possiblity of the song being sung in August 1969 and makes me eager to see some type of audio of this show emerge.

I like this version, but to me i prefer the one in Lake Tahoe, while Elvis sings here with more enthusiasm, in Lake Tahoe he sings the lyrics more correct

There's not much there. His voice sounded good, though. I just wish he could remember the words would have been a nice change of pace instead of his stale, tired routine in the 70s.
