I've found that the older I get, the less I look for power and the more I look for torque. :)
maybe..just maybe.. it parallels to getting smarter and less impulsive & hasty?
So true!
taste refined ✌🏽🔥🤙🏽
You should get an mt09
Very true !
TEC Bike built my Scrambler! Thanks again guys!
Great review! I really appreciate you inserting your ideas for improving the bike. Very useful information! Thanks for including the links for the parts you mentioned.
Seat cowl looks like a great idea.
Looks a beauty, enjoying & look forward to more! 👍🏻
Seat cowl is a great idea, I think a solution for the indicators and number plate needs to be done first 👍
Very good in-depth review of the Triumph Trident 660 ! Thanks !
Thank you very professional and sincere approach, much enjoyed
The "seat tidy" idea is spot on!
Thanks George, informative and interesting views, as usual. Seat cowl looks like a winner, imho.
One of the main things I like about this company is their no nonsense quality approach to their parts. (I have no affiliation to them btw) Good stuff and very informative!
Most are just rebranded Chinese parts. not that its a bad thing as most are, they just don't want you to know that.
@@andywright2060 Nothing good ever came out of China.
First time Ive seen you on YT. Great stuff and great to hear your geordie twang...Im exciled on the south coast. PXing my STR for a Trident.
I can't say the look of the rear number plate mount bothers me but what does annoy me about these things on any bike is the missed opportunity to bridge between it and the hugger to provide a proper, close fitting, mudguard that would be not too visible in black and protect both the suspension unit and the back of one's legs. The Chinese can do it on their electric commuter machines. Hell, even Harley have managed it on the Livewire. A front mudguard wouldn't go amiss either.
I agree with Dave (below). It will be interesting to see what seat cowl you produce. Great video.
Great video fantastic little bike stay safe looking forward to next video's 🇬🇧👍
Great review 👍
Great to hear your ideas. For most days i’d want that back end to be simple with little leds and an under-seat numberplate, but a flatter seat with luggage capacity could be brilliant. I wish bikes could be a bit more modular so we could switch from commute to tour mode set up without too much wiring work.
there is no storage under seat on this bike at all
Excellent video. I wasn't actually interested in this bike until I watched your video.
thats the color scheme for me gonna have to order one love the triple
Well, now I know where I'll be spending a bit of money once my Trident arrives!
Another excellent and informative video, cheers.
Brilliant stuff man! So glad this vid came up. Happy to subscribe! Maybe stupid question, but available in the US?
I’m not sure how much I like the cowl. It’s pretty by itself but I’m not sure I like how it takes away the svelte tail and makes it almost as/more prominent than the tank because of the plastic on the tank having a sort of slimming effect on the overall tank size. Might feel differently from other angles. It’s certainly something many will like I’d imagine.
Absolutely should have a seat tidy cowl. Good point on the grab handle; it definitely needs one.
The lever upgrades are a must. The pot metal levers look extremely cheap, in addition to being rough reach wise
Interested in this bike, bit needs a luggage solution for sure. Look forward to see how you develop parts for this bike. 👍
Such a beautiful bike !!
I agree wit the seat cowl. Looks like a sport thruxton with it on.
Rear end is where the work needs to go. Those GS type number / indicator holders annoy the hell out of me.
That seat cowl (?) looked REALLY good! Just the right height over the seat imo.
only if you are a lonely/miserable old sod with no mates/woman! What if you want to take YOUR tent and gubbins to a weekend rally? Trust me! ....Triumph luggage won't cut it!
@@black8art Ask your partner to follow in their car and book a hotel Mr Tight ⛺
Looking forward to more vids on this bike
We need something to fix the luggage situation, and a good quality exhaust for it :D
A good honest review yes the seat cowl works but it needs a longer rear hugger and number plate indicators and rear light hanging below the seat will be contacting you for a set of those mirrors. Great
you can find already on ebay tail tidy for this bike
You rear seat cowl idea looks great and it suites the number plate cluster which I prefer except the turn signals are too low to be seen by any tail gating motorist.
I don't like look of the tank panels. How are they fixed to the tank - glued on? Looking forward too seeing more parts coming up.
Awesome and honest review. What's the brand of your rear stand please ? Just got my trident and as a new rider I can't wait for a video about the chain check and chain adjustment ! Thanks.
The rear cowl for the seat makes the bike look much more balanced.
Great video . Thank you
I liked the seat cowl!
Personally i hate the chopped arse of the Rocket 3 and Trident.. I know people who have moved the whole shebang up under the rear light and ditching the "arm" that holds it. Problem with that is that it wobbles something awful because it is just fastened to the underseat pan. Now, if you could come up with braces to stabilise the rear fender i think it would be a doddle to re-use the oem rear fender, only moved up to where it bloddy should have been in the first place! :)
Some really great improvements which i would agree with, as you would expect from TEC, especially the seat cowl / tidy. I do agree also that the rear plate hanger is pig ugly, and should be done away with, so an under seat hanger with suitably modified undertray, along with some sort of handle to put it on a stand. I think when you look at the tank, there seems to be a look of the early T300 Daytona / Trophy / Trident design.
Hi
the more I look at this bike I can see lots of style nods to the early Hinckley bikes of the 90's. Even the vinyl stripe on the tank looks like the first bikes
It would shred through the cheap tin tags
Increasing the stroke increases piston speed at a given rpm. But it does increase torque low and midrange. And usually lowers peak rpm.
Thank you for a very good video
I can't wait to get the seat cowl 🤩🤩🤩
Seat cowl 100% improvement, excellent thought.
Very informative cheers.
Good review
I managed to get a test ride, what a great bike. I ordered the same one you have. I will be removing the rear megs. Do you have plans to make some kind of decorative plate to hide the holes? Maybe a plate with 660 on it.
Removing the reflectors may improve the looks but there is a reason it is there. If you live where I do with a lot of traffic, visibility is crucial. So, I leave mine on.
I'd like to mention that there is a chap on YT called RocketMan who owns his Trident 660 and lives in Portugal (I think). He does tell it like it is 😊
Yeh just watched his honest review, not like TMF🤣 PXing my STR for a Trident.
awesome bike!
"The tail could do with a cowl"
Nah it's alright
"Here's what it would look like"
Ohhhhh... Damn it that's a pretty good fit and looks good
I’ve searched high and low for a parts diagram of the trident as I want to install heated grips and need to remove the tank (cover). Could you folks do a how to video on that. Or provide a resource? Thanks! Love your channel!
Reflectors are there for good reason.. The side one's and the rear save lives my friend.
I can’t wait to see how this motor responds to power mods. Do you reckon that it can safely rev much higher without internals changes if longevity isn’t as much of a concern ?
What kind of parts do you design? If I have a product sketched out can you help me source manufacturing capacity?
I have one, I am very happy
How have you found it?
Ballistic horse power of days gone by , where the human race on the road , could not comprehend the power those bikes had . A very well explained talk about the bike .
The rear seat cowling would be amazing!!
How about a big or effective touring screen? Do you plan on making one?
Those mirrors are very nice. Can they be mounted below too? I noticed lots of folks are going for bar end mirrors that hang beneath the bars. I will have to see if any of the models you sell are compatible with my Z400.
I bought the Triumph bag for the rear seat. Kind of a dumb idea. You can't throw your leg over the bike with the luggage on the seat. Moreover, it has a bag in it that is non removable and takes up quite a lot of the room inside. The tank bag looks a little funny in my opinion as well. I suggest and hope that you will develop a hanging side bags solution which would look better and also be more functional. I would buy it for sure. Thank you for a great video.
I really liked this fact based approach to the review rather than blasting down a road. I have an MT07 with your progressive springs and preload adjusters at the front. I have the later rebound adjustable mono-shock on the rear. Do you think the Triumph suspension would be too firm for me given that I like the setup that I have now.
Hi
It is not Really Hard, but much more controlled and precise than the stock MT07
Excellent video . Lots of useful info, especially the chain and rear shock.
I totally agree that keyless is painful and annoying. So the battery went flat from new on my one within five months, I'm always checking my pockets to make sure I have the key. Petrol stations fill me with dread, I could drop the key and ride off ! (so more pocket checking) .
With the security issues, you almost have to get the dealer fit alarm, that does need disabling before you can ride off. Well it makes a noise, I assume it disables the ignition, guess I should test this.
I've told Triumph I'd rather not have keyless ( will they listen ? )
I like Keys. why do they have to mess with everything that works just cause cars have them.
@@TECBikeParts I don't want keyless on a car either ! Remote central locking good, keyless, pointless !
would like to see that in action - shock cover- easy to say, but lets make it happened :)
Glad you got one , mine is ordered in white And seat tidy ?? I want one.
Got mine 2 weeks ago...would love to see an upgraded exhaust with the same stubby styling.
Trading in my 2016 Multistrada for one of these, love the look with the big Triumph logo and prefer that brake reservoir to those horrible plastic cups.
I'm considering a similar switch to the Trident but have concerns I might be disappointed.
I find that I get very little chance to really use the power of the big 1200cc motor and it’s also a very thirsty bike.
But the main reason for moving is my physical limitations due to a back injury, hence going to something smaller and lighter to move around the garage.
I have booked it and waiting for it to arrive. And its the exact same color that I have ordered.
Changes I want to make:
1. I want to remove all non-black color parts (including radiator guard side panels) and make it full black : any suggestions?
2. Even though this one is not recommended for a pillion, I want to add a pillion back rest for my son: do you think its possible?
3. As I like the Street Triple headlights a lot, in future would like to change the round one with bug-eyed ones. Do you think its possible?
4. Will be looking for better shaped windshield, something that is not round
5. Can the whole radiator guard side panel be turned into side reflectors?
Another plus is the fitment of premium tyres on a budget bike - you have to credit Thaiumph for that.
Thaiumph 🤣🤣🤣
probably makes 50 quid more fore them to fit those tyres , but increses bike value a lot :)
another review without a camera shot of the left side bobbin. Do you keep the stock guard? Do you keep the factory washer?
Is possible to adjust the height of the shifter and brake lever to match the height of the lowered pegs? I sit on it with my 6 foot and it was too small and stiff :(
Which clutch lever is that? I’ve not found one that works with the autoblipper switch that is attached to the handlebar.
pity there's no solid plans to get the full power version in Australia. I'm actually a little bit jealous that the current crop of learners get so many more great options than I had
Hey there, I have booked a Triumph Trident a few weeks ago, and interestingly, saw a pillion grab handle as part of the accessories package for it. Maybe you can work with them to arrange for a higher indicator mounting position below the seat, as the grab handles are a little forward so it leaves some room towards the back for mounting them
Also, will the rear cowl go over the seat? If I wish to take my significant other on a weekend ride, I can simply remove it, will it work that way as well?
Hello thanks for the video !
I am looking for à bien stand for the Trident, I had to cut my previous one because I lowered the bike, and I wish to replace it with the original or some original bike stand with the standard height.. have any idea ? Thanks a lot again
Would like to see a silver/aluminium version of the brake & clutch levers, since they would look more unnoticeable/coherent especially on bikes with a classic/retro design.
I went for a test ride on the Trident 660 and the worst issue I found was the extreme heat coming off the engine onto my lower legs...felt like it was burning through jeans. Have you noticed it? Is there anything you can do to mitigate the heat as I haven't noticed it on a VFR800 so maybe a fairing is good at diffusing heat?
Triumph. The prince Harry of motorcycle manufacturing. As soon as things get abit difficult bugger off to Thialand.
I wonder what adding Street Triple cams would do?
RE: The front fork reflectors, i prefer to soften them up with heat and run a fishing line or dental floss under it to get it off. Not saying it is a better method, it's the result, not the method that counts. .)
Bike looks great. I agree that the rear shock should have a covering. How much money could a simple but important piece of gear add to the price point when it saves so much headache down the road: that would surely by a good selling point?
I agree on the MT07's engine looking like a plumber's nightmare.
That engine will always need a fairing to hide behind.
Do you think you could recycle the Mount points for the secondary riders pegs for some sort of side bag? I’m waiting for mine to arrive in the US and first one on the order list at the local dealer. Pretty much went with all options to make it more of my own bike, but up in the air on what to do with the second riders pegs since I won’t ever ride with a passenger on the Trident 660.
A cover for the rear suspension makes a lot of sense, and will keep that in mind going forward as well. Can’t wait to feel the difference from my Z400 which was my starter bike to this. I think this will be my final bike of choice with the increased power, mainly due to keeping my physical limitations in check as I’m fighting stage IV colon cancer. I can only upgrade to a certain point, as the wet weight of the bike needs to remain manageable for my strength.
Yes our thoughts were along similar lines as this bike lacks fixing points to the frame at rear.
@@georgemilburn6213 Do you know what the optional grab handles fit to. Is there any opportunity there?
Nice (got my 👍 up) but what about the Himalayan? Any updates there?
Sorry but Covid messed up our plans last year , but not to long to wait now
I bought Trident 660 also and found that the engine stall when it's coming out of high revs. Shouldn't it maintain the rev so the engine won't stall? This happen at 27:03 (I have a similar issue and I've contacted Triumph and it seems like a faulty part)
Does anyone know if you can put/get cruise control for this bike?
I drew up a tail tidy for this that keeps the clean tail end but I will probably make it one off
Great analysis , thank you ! Rocketman is riding his but he’s in Portugal! As a parts designer, what do you think of the rear swing arm and frame in terms of corrosion resistance or is there only one way to find out? 😬 That rear swing arm construction looks exactly the same construction as MT07 and that has serious corrosion issues along the welds . If I were a summer rider I would snap this bike up but I am very wary. I ride all year , all weathers. Apart from that this bike hits every point I would want from a bike . Great engine , handling , upright comfort , classic styling (round headlight ), fun but not silly fast for the road. Perfect .
Hi, only time will tell on that issue, and generally the finish on the bike is very good. But if I was riding this bike all year round I would use some form of clear protector anti corrosion spray on the swing arm and shock. They really do make a difference. Even BMW GS frames rust if ridden in the UK winter salt without protection.
Was there a follow up video on this bike ?
The seat cowl looks very very good and really make the bike slender
The rear cowl is a must. Matches the height with the tank and softens the upturn of the street fighter esq back end. Lots of improvements you have and will serve you well. That rear mudgaurd and light cluster arrangement is horrible but what else could they do. V interested to see what you come up with. Was really interested in the Trident when first seen but that exhaust, ugly pillion hangers and awful backend is a deal breaker for me. I'll stick with me Enfield's 👍
That seat tidy DOES look nice! (Thumbs up)
the MT07 IS GOOD but i needs USD Front forks, and a decent rear shock.
any idea how soon or even whether or not some custom slip ons will come out for the trident?
Early days, but we will be looking very hard at the exhaust, Euro 5 ECU may cause some issues though.
its kind a cheap. mar '22 in US its 8195. dont worry the front fork reflectors were already falling off the one I test drove with 12 miles.
and what is the charge and what do they do on that annual mandatory, warranty-voiding if u dont do it, service?
More videos on the Trident please
