Watched this post live (Wednesday). The responses were truly interesting. It was visibly noticeable that Drew is concerned about how competitive he will now be without this tech. I think this limitation is great IMO. This will be a better for the fans bottom line IMO.
Watching the team series was telling about the “scopers”. Casey Ashley and big show caught the hell out of them and their other partner had a goose egg for most of the show. Then the team Kyle hall was fishing with was throttling them, and Kyle had a 0 most of the show. That’s what the scopers are worried about. I think some of them will be exposed, and some of them will adapt and do fine.
Sorry but disagree with Drew at 5:40. His dislike of ffs being limited, and trying to razzle and dazzle us viewers with fancy vocabulary, all the while basically saying he’s gonna struggle without it is telling in itself. He’s desperate to defend the narrative.
Regardless of what James Watson says Boyd feel dirty to me not sure why I get those vibes but I do. Kinda dude tell ya good job to your face and turn around and instantly fire you.
The original BFL (Operation Bass) had a rule that the co-angler (then called a non-boater) had half the day where they wanted to fish and half the day in the front of the boat. A co-angler doesn't really have a fair chance and as far as learning from the "pro", the co-angler may have more experience but is handicapped.
Boyd didn't answer the money question at all lol. But nobody should have expected him to. There are a lot of things to criticize MLF for, but putting boundaries on use of ffs in some levels should be recognized and applauded as well. I love that they have disallowed it for HS. Fantastic decision. I just wish they had put the same rules in place for Toyotas, Invitationals and BPT.
It's not just improving efficiency it's taking away the number one aspect that separates a good angler from a great angler. It's a completely different activity when you can see the fish in real time. It may well be that all out technology will become acceptable in Pro Bass fishing and it will be just as competitive as the best will develop the skill set required but they will competing in a different sport.
This is why Anglers that don't fish from boats world wide, for any species, will always be better anglers. Drew clearly doesn't understand what angling/fishing is, using technology to remove the single most difficult aspect of angling to acquire, the ability to find fish, turns fishing with FFS into a completely different activity from fishing. You give me a boat with electronics on a body of water in America, a country i have never visited, fishing for species i have never caught with tackle i have never used and i will catch some. Bring Drew Gill to the UK, put him on a stretch of coast he has never seen with tackle he has never used and he will either zero or struggle badly. I love watching competitive Bass fishing in America but the best anglers in the world they ain't. They are the best Bass anglers in the world.
I just want to see an invitational every year for top 15 in aoy from mlf and BASS. Format I could care less. I know it's not the subject but just wanted to throw it on here..
The aspect Drew is getting right here is the difference between pure competition and a competition that is designed for entertainment. It's why formula 1 keep changing the rules as all the teams will eventually converge on the same solution within a set of rules as that will be the best solution to get round a circuit the quickest way over a set number of laps. Fishing not being the most entertaining sport for TV means there will always have to be a big element of the rules set to provide entertainment and that won't sit well with anglers whose main aim is to win as often as possible by any legal means.

If you can catch a fish on a frog, punching bait, top water, glad bait, swim jig you catch a fish on five different baits, you win, we also need scoring on how well the cast was made factory the winning
I'm not a duckett fan at all but he dis a decent job this time. I don't agree with his statement that a tournament organization should be shaping the sport. Ray Scott through BASS has done this since the first tournament. Maybe mlf shouldn't be influencing the narrative though. I'm not a scoper but I'm a Drew Gill fan, the kid is on another level with his fishing mind. I feel someday we will look at him like Rick Clunn and Aaron Martens. I was waiting for him to play a Clunn card and mention quantum physics. I don't appreciate wheeler going out of his way to attack the NPFL, just tacky. anyone with success on questionable methods will always find a way to make it sound or seem right. Listen we all love Home Runs, but Illegal bats don't justify the love of homers. I'd love to see a 70-yard FG, but a helium ball isn't the answer. I thought Drew said he likes bass fishing, but it seems he likes the tech advantage on his behalf more.................
Drew made a great point on a previous BTL. In college there isn’t enough time for traditional bass tournament practice with school, travel, etc. so FFS allowed him to find fish faster. That needs to be addressed too.
In the history of college fishing that’s probably been the case and it’s worked out fine. Especially since most of the students don’t have a lot of time to practice. They’ve managed before without FFS.
Epic. Drew is such an eloquent speaker perfect person to go into detail from the electronics guys perspective. Wheeler is the nail on the coffin, dudes flat produced & can speak too. This was great.
