The joy in Vera's voice once it was fixed with the following hi five clearly shows how much she loves her car 🚗 lovely video as always Nigel.
Am a 🧰 mechanic in Kenya,and through you guys,am LR specialist.you guys are awesome 💯😎.Big love ❤
😅👍💪🙋♀️
It's Sunday morning and it is LR Time - Hooray. Love Simon's videos as well. 👍
This couldn’t have come at a better time for me 😂 same door same problem 😂😂 I’ve been waiting 4 months with the door not locking for a “sunny British day” 😅
Only four month ? No rush then. You can work on that next year. Christian
Christian was correct. It was very entertaining and informative.
Christian and Vera deserve every success through their UA-cam channel.
Looking forward to the next one.
Thank you for sharing.
😀🙏Thank you🙋♀️Vera
While not overly complex, there certainly is a lot of steps involved. Thanks for showing us. I feel in in the part of Australia where I live, the grease in my 07 LR3 will never deteriorate like yours did. Even with holiday trips to areas that snow or are wickedly hot.
I laughed when you said you put this off for two years. I have a similar issue except my door stays locked and won’t open and I have been putting the repair off for at least four years now 😀
Also I have to agree with you Christian, every time I work on the disco 3 I am amazed at how beefy and solid everything is. It’s an incredibly well built car.
The best repair videos I know! And I can often laugh. Thanks for that!
The addictive quality of working on a Discovery. I have done this job on different doors on both LR3 and LR4 (with keyless entry) and yet I still watched your video from start to finish!
😅👍🙏🙋♀️Vera
I genuinely couldn't tell if Christian was being sarcastic or sincere about the build quality and DIY-ability of the Disco.
This video made my day and its 23h15 in New Zealand. As a Land Rover owner some years ago, I feel their pain. Thank you guys. 😊
I always hit the like as I open the video because I know I'm going to enjoy it. 😀😉👍... Morning Charlie 👌
I am becoming an L r time disciple. I checked twice today for your latest episode .Great content and honesty in that Christian also looks for a bit of guidance on YT when tackling jobs for the first time .Makes a great start to a Sunday
This brings back memories of the alarm kicking and no keys🤣 Just hired a Toyota in South Africa, only the drivers door unlocks when you turn the engine off and remove the key had a lot of grumpy passengers on our bush trip as a faffed around finding the unlock button 🤣 That's how they solve their mean time to failure by upsetting passengers .
I have done this a few times on our RRS but not the D3 yet. 👍
Christian - you are the personification of German order - but your channel is in English. It’s so entertaining and one can learn things too.
Thanks, or Jawohl. Christian

Hey Christian & Vera, greetings from Australia, & yes we have a warm climate, but it can get cold.
You often comment about how cold it is there and having to be careful not to break plastic clips or other hard rubber items when disassembling.
Where I come from in south east Queensland winter temperatures can reach -7 Celsius or colder, so to avoid breakages I use either my wife’s hair dryer or a heat gun with a temperature controller to warm up the part so it’s not brittle.
Yes it another step in the process but it helps with the blood pressure 😂
Christian, you crack me up with your parody of Toyota vs. Land Rover. Land Rovers are beautiful cars, but the headaches they give you are far too much for my stomach. Keep it up both of you are very entertaining!
YEY A NEW VIDEO!
I hope they make coffee in this one!
😅No, sorry to dissapoint you.🙋♀️Vera
Good evening Vera & Christian 😊 That was absolutely fantastic 👍🏻 The chit chat with Vera as you fixed the door Christian was really good with good humour 🤣 Vera is so cute when she’s happy 😃 Big warm hug 🤗 for Vera for videoing this episode x
😊🙏🙋♀️Vera
@@Vera_and_Christian OMG
Very fiddly job. Too many small bits to lose along the way. 😆 I'm always impressed how you get things back together, even though some jobs probably take much longer than it seems in the video. And your marital banter had me smiling all the way through. 😊
Im in the middle of working on my LR3 and it’s the same door as yours. Love the Guillotine joke. I used a wood clamp to fasten my window. I envy the order and cleanliness of your work shop. Take care and best regards from the United States.
The lock is very similar with the Volvo door locks. If you have intermitent unlocking issue with the doors, replace the motor pair on the lock. All the best.
Another excellent video from you both. I was smiling all the way, from start to finish. Thank you Christian and Vera. I look forward to the next one. 👏🙏
Double locking on the evoque makes it were you cant open the door when you smash the window in. Wow those speakers are huge must be a good sounding system in those.
Hi Guys, another great video where the driving motivation genuinely seems to be to help people, not just to show how much you know.
Always good, always clear, always entertainly. Great work you two.
And yes, it does feel great when you fix something - especially when the problem fixed is on the wife's car !!!
Great video! As Christian says, do the research well in advance of the actual repair work. Lots of times parts and pieces end up looking much different than anticipated for some reason. Just work through it and be ready to laugh at yourself. Thanks for the the shout out Vera! I appreciate you sending the package to me!!
Christian and Vera another great video thanks for all the information
Great video! There's so much stuff to get out before you can fix the problem on a LR3!
As with any other car .😀👍🙋♀️Vera
I watch these videos every week yet I don't own a D3 or D4, I have an L322 SC, this is great infotainment. When I DIY on my car and the wife helps we have the same sort of "discussions"...
Yes I own a L322 as well. I keep trying to send psychic energy to them to buy a L322 and a Series to fill out their fleet :)
@@Colinpark That never crossed my mind, So I will be sending psychic energy too, and encourage L322 facebook groups to do the same, who knows what can happen when great minds think alike.
@Tony Warren😅👍💪🙋♀️Vera
Great, time for our Discovery owners group therapy.😍
First time I have heard Christian say "OMG".
Oh dear, this happened to me when I was at the garage buying my disco. I found that when you press the engage button on the dash it stopped going off and it then locked itself with the other doors normally. I also found that you could program it to only unlock the driver’s door with the key, leaving all other doors and tail gate locked. To open those, your pressed the unlock button one the dash. great being a Disco Discoverer. Always enjoying your videos. All the very best. Gpx UK
I have this repair to do on my right hand rear door. I have done it once before so know what to do but I may try to repair it now I have seen your efforts here. It’s just tired and needs regreasing I think. I must get hold of some of those spare motors. Thanks for another entertaining Sunday!
As always Vera & Christian, another wonderful video. You are a great team. You have inspired me to fix my D4 door lock. Thank you and best wishes from a very hot last week here in Australia.
What a great team you make it's a joy a watch thank you And keep muddy gang
In a throw away society like we have its so nice to see you repair instead off replace parts I'm same my father taught me to always try fix what you have only buy if nessersary a great video all the best donny
It seems to be the left rear door very often.🙄 I replaced my lock last year, using the same sources of information you recommended.👍 Just want to mention that the latch on the release cable is likely to break, when you remove it from the door panel. Please don't ask, why I know this.😇
It does it on the L322 Range Rover too!
@@samrodian919 So it seems to be caused by earth rotation.😉
Good morning folks happy Sunday looking forward to the video 👍👍👍
loving your new line of videos on the process. love you guys and was worried how you would keep this going. After all, I thought you might have to break things for repair vids! Always a treat to see you guys! ~ Roger
OMG x2k
make sure he puts that back on your car or it may fall apart LOL thanks for the video
VW/Audi door handles from the 70’s and 80’s were notorious for breaking, so much that we used the term “Team Door Handle” when we had to fix them. 😊
Another fantastic video - thanks guys!
Bravo Maestro, once again a brilliant easy demo of how to fix a problem. My brother in law has a LR Disco 4 with a similar problem, I shall refer him to your Lecture. Vera fast forwarded you when you were arguing about oil, lol cheeky.
I saw an LR Time bumper sticker on a Disco 4 while stuck in traffic last week. Coincidentally 5 minutes before my Hyosung started overheating, so I have to add looking at that to replacing the rear main seal on my Disco 4. On a sloped driveway. Yay me!!
Yes, you never'll have a boring day, ever again. We have a major engine failure on Robin's 125ccm Aprillia due to overheating. Waiting for one more part and then there will be an engine fix on that. Maybe it helps you with your Hyosung ( am I right that it is a motorcycle?)🙋♀️Vera
@@Vera_and_Christian You are correct, mine is 650cc, a black GT650R, but restricted because i'm only a learner :-)
Brilliant video again guys, love your humour 😂it looks freezing 🥶
Excellent video thank you.
Wonderful as usual
Brilliant, amusing, as always....
BTW you have the patience of a saint (for the avoidance of doubt - this comment was directed to Christian.....).
Already looking forward to next Sunday!
Vera - hope it's all now fixed for another 10+ years, and you managed to warm up too!
You do know hopefully that he cuts out all the scenes where he is mad at me or I get all the blame. 😅👍🙋♀️Vera
Excellent timing as my rear door actuator is not locking. I mount my workshop monitor in portrait orientation it makes reading manuals much easier.
Hi Vera and Christian, long time since i last replied here. I don’t want to spoil but…. You can open from inside (even on super lock or powerlock or whatever LR calls it) if you pull BOTH the locking lever (small black one) and the latch lever (silver long one) twice 🤫. My rear right door is constantly locked (I don’t use it) when I need, that is how it works. 😉
I will think on repairing mine some day, it has been only just over 3 years it is like this. 🤭
Great video as always. Congrats.
2 minutes in and I love this video already. 😂 😂 😂
Hi Guys, another great video, thank You.
Yet another interesting, and at times scary video. Thanks guys.
You guys are legends! Thank you! I shall be attempting this after I work out why my Freelander 2's turbo is no longer working. We've got to lower the Disco 3's rear passenger door tab manually every time we lock the car! I think the problem is annoying enough that I'll try to not wait (another) 2 years, emboldened as I am now with your process!
I did that for about 1 year out of the two, but then the alarm went off for no reason and Christian finally had to actually fix the problem. 😅👍🙋♀️Vera
@@Vera_and_Christian I will consider myself forewarned!
Best content on UA-cam! I love it, and I don’t own a Land Rover!!!
12:18 I like your sense of humor. both of u 😂
As always another great (and useful) video. And that's my next job on my D4 :)
Great repair 👏
Good video. A little stressful, with a thousand steps and all those small parts. I liked the pencil and the arrow showing how to get the part back into the door. Kinda funny that you couldn't see the latches that Simon was talking about, because you hot-glued it in years ago and forgot. Such a beautiful car, super DIY, etc. Good stuff.
Removing and replacing door panels can get very frustrating, besides accidentally breaking a clip or something plastic .
Excellent repair , including where to find information , and made it look so easy .
Many thanks Vera and Christian for your humorous video " in the freeze "
Good video guys! 👍
I just did mine. It seems common for the electrical motor inside the locking mechanism to fail or work intermittently. I took everything apart, opened the locking actuator and replaced the motor - $20 from ebay for a set of 4x. No more problems!
👍💪🙋♀️
Another informative and amusing video. Well done and thank you.from Northumberland UK. P.S. Apologies that you can no longer easily get parts after Brexit. Wasn’t my idea, still feeling European.
Super fun edit guys! love the speed up for the arguing repartee!! You should have some meet and greet if you are in Utah. Assume Moab area? very fun video, see you nxt Sunday..
hi from wales uk you guys are amazing keep up the videos you make me wont to go buy a disco3 xx
Yet another fantastic video, that lock looks simular to the one i've got on my Ford Fiesta but i guess both vehicles were under the Ford owner when they were built, i have some of those mechanisms that don't work so i might investigate if i can dismantle them & find the fault
CONGRATULATIONS you have reached max LEVEL 10 SARCASM😁😁😁
I think you secretly have a magicians hat in the corner of the workshop.... Forget manuals! Silicone grease only on plastics... there are others but be careful - some will cause the plastic to degrade badly. Another fab video, OMG!
hello from Australia
Just did this a month ago. Both front and rear doors. They went at the same time after 17 years. I am happy. Nearly a toyota😂😂😂😂
‘I’m done with you!’ 😂 ….. We’re not Christian, keep up the good work 😅
I dropped the part and the gears fell out - Doh. Now attempting to put it back together. There is a really strange round spring underneath the large round white gear. Swapping out the motor was easy.
Thank you.
Utah this summer!? That's awesome! We live there and we have a pretty decent group of discovery 3/4 enthusiasts. Would be so great to meet you guys!
😀👍🙋♀️Vera
It's an obscene job this one! It's very, very annoying to do. I have replaced 3 of 4 actuators over 6 years. The 4th is on its way out, and the drivers door I just fixed by replacing the motors, much as you did.
Again a perfect video ... due to temperature I would prefer to work in the garage maybe with any heater😉
Yes, me too. But the heater can't be turned on due to the noise it makes, and it's not really warmer in a concrete garage without a heater. Believe me, I know. 😅👍🙋♀️
@@Vera_and_Christian I have 2 versions:
- small electric one with blower / fan
- infrared with tripod
both not as expensive, depending on the job I use the one or other
It helps to be not as cold ... maybe as a gift from your wife for next birthday?
From my proofed experience ... better than
without!
Place close to the working space🙂
@@a___________r414 Yes but we make videos for UA-cam, so we have a little bit of experience how much noise is acceptable in a video. And according to most viewers who complained, almost none. You wouldn't believe the kind of comments we get if something is off, even the slightest. Our own comfort, or any UA-camrs by the way, is secondary.😅👍 🙋♀Vera
Well nice video I'm in the UK and can buy the door units each for around £30 new with 5 year guarantee so after all the hassle of removing it just fitted new ones job done but yes mine were the same sometimes they lock and sometimes they don't probably could of done same as you 👍👍
We can do that too, but it's aftermarket. In your case too. We always try to keep and fix the Oem part, which was not really broken before we put in an aftermarket part. 🙋♀️
"SUPER" Video this week , so funny .
I never took the door handle off when i did this on our Freelander 2 & Range Rover Sport, it's a bit fiddly and requires long nose pliers and swearing. Next time i'll take the handle off. I bought our new latches from ebay for £17.50 each , and did all 4 in about 1 1/2 hours.
I noticed that your wheel arch trim is looking slightly grey ( faded ) , Back to black is great for this and would make a "SUPER" easy how to video.
take care and see you next Sunday
They are just dirty, my Discovery hasn't been cleanded in a looooong time. 😅👍🙋♀️Vera
@@Vera_and_Christian lol , me either , i haven't washed mine since last summer Vera 😱 And i told you about the wrong stuff , it's Forever black i used , not Back to Black ... silly me .
Another excellent video, from the genius’s of LR time!
Say if you’re coming to Utah, also plan on coming to west Colorado! Love to meet you, and or take you over by Ouray. (Black bear pass, silverton, telluride)
My pleasure, and plenty of room in the 7 seat LR3 😊
Vera, should have my email from a bit back (stereo question, and sticker purchase)
Have a fantastic week 😊
I don't think we can make it all the way to Colorado. We'll be in Southern California and Southern Utah. But we have been to Telluride, Silverton, and we have driven on Ophir Pass with our Jeeps and the Durango, I think. 👍🙋♀️Vera
@@Vera_and_Christian well bummer. It would be great to meet y’all.
Ps are you going to go visit Matt?
I have tickets for the tow truck Olympics coming up :) be watching for my red LR3. That has a cool LR Times sticker on the back window. :)
If only the boot sensor on my Toyota kluger was this easy 😅😢
Wow I thought you and Vera had bought a Toyota!! Did I miss an episode? I hope all are well . Stay safe and many thanks for such a lovely channel
When did you get that impression? 😅🙋♀️
@@Vera_and_Christian I think I missed my weekly fix last week in NZ . Yep thing are made solid but boy hard to get to without loosing some skin . We are in the top 20deg C and are recovering from a cyclone. Stay safe .PS you are a lucky man my wife would never bring coffee but tell me if I was so clever I could work out how to do it for my self. Female logic why do pizza com in a square box, are round yet you eat a triangle .ask Vera please.
If at any time you have the parts all in place and not broken, it's the actuator motors that will be weak resulting in failure to move the levers all the way.
The motors are two, small one and bigger one, written mabuchi or something. They are available on ebay.
So everyone when you do this work and not ready to replace the latch with a new one, order the motors and change them too so as to avoid disappointment after a short while, believe me I went through it.
I thought I showed the motor and part number in the video… maybe I forgot to edit this in. Christian
@@Vera_and_Christian Oh yes saw that later in the video and apology for I didn't acknowledge that.
Good video all the way.
ITS LR TIME😁😁😁
Hi christian and vera.another great video and very informative as always
I watched your video on rear brake service.are brembo the discs and padsyou use? Looking forward to your next video.
Thanks again you make sundays that bit moe entertaining 👍 👌 😀
That door job wasn't too bad. At least not in fast forward 😅 But you should hide those five oil pumps you have on display, people may get the wrong impression about the quality of the LR🤪
I think most people already know that. 😅🙋♀️Vera
Lesson number 1:
If you own a Land-rover, you must also own a fault code reader.
Lesson number 2:
If you own a Land-rover, you must also own a heated workshop!
Preferably big enough to fit the Land-rover inside it.
😅👍 Yeah a heated workshop would be nice. 🙋♀️Vera
I do the research, manuals, you tube and then practice on a vehicle at the auto wrecker.
Update your puddle lights and interiors light to bright led lights and you can upgrade puddle light to display land rover on ground when you open door
We have that on the Mall Crawler, I do not want to turn mine into a Mall Crawler . 😅🙋♀️Vera
Christian said you need to prepare so you look smart in front of your wife. In the middle of the job, Vera says, “I’m done with you!”. Don’t worry Christian, I still think you are very smart!
Wundervoll

As a matter of fact the guillotine was used as a method of executing criminals in Germany up until the 1970s
I'm shoving this away for a bit more than one year now for the passenger (right) side front door... "good" thing, the engine died at 290 tkm two weeks ago from a camshaft (yes.. not the regular crankshaft) failure 😵💫
Looking for a reliable engine for swapping in (S/W) Germany now as I have to hand this work over to the garage for reasons of space, time and equipment. Sometimes I think, I should have lit this car on time.
Wonderful couple I hope found like ur wife u r lucky
Hi do you have a video on how to replace vacuum pump top of engine need to do mine can’t find any thanks
No video from us. It’s in the workshop manual. Christian
Am i rite in saying double locking it also activates the motion alarm. That's why it says to turn it off on a boat, and i think double locking also means only driver door opens on 1 click unlock?
Correct about the inside alarm. Not every vehicle had that. Double lock and unlock are two different functions. Christian
