- The Land Rover Discovery 3 door mechanism refuses to lock and unlock properly so I've cut out an inspection hole to try and repair it. I end up having to strip the door down and replace the door lacth mechanism, which wasn't a terrible job after all. Definately a DIY repair for anyone with basic tools. This guide walks you through stripping the door card off, removing the window regulator and the door latch mechanism on the Land Rover Discovery 3 LR3, swapping over the cables and putting it all back together again.
See the difference between genuine and after market latches and a close up to how it all works.

If you ever lose that little spring, or the similar one that often snaps in series 3 or military defender latches, a new one can be made from the lower spring part of a correct sized safety pin. 😉 Necessity is the mother of all invention!
ive just got a discovery 3 tdv6 mot is up on it i noticed its running rough and a bit smokey its been sat for a while to when i looked at it again on my own properly ive noticed the maf sensor wasnt in all the way is the maf sensor at fault thanks
Could you put a small zip tie over the end of the spring, so it doesn't jump out of its "groove" again?
Worried it might get snagged as there isn't much room.
What was the original problem please? My drivers door often slips back locked (the inner lock tab seems not to open fully) pia when you leave keys in!
The mechnism was't strong enough to open the locking tab fully. If yours is the same it could be slowly closing again.
