All I could think of hearing Mike’s description of “Oath of Glory” was that this is how Corizon would find religion.

Very much fan of these, would be very keen to see a mini oxventure campaign with Luke DMing some of these characters. Andy playing an introvert, Jane playing somebody wholesome and Mike playing somebody serious would be a lot of fun to see!
We definitely need a part 2 with Ellen and Luke!
Yeess
They fulfilled the contractual obligation for WotC, but to hell with contractual obligations. I'm an Oxventure FAN! I wanna see what Luke and Ellen would bring to the table from Tasha's. I came back after forgiving that Thunderwave isn't electrical damage and caught up from episode 5 til now when I'm anxiously awaiting the return of their D&D stream, all caught up with their Blades In the Dark series; amd most DEFINITELY am a member of The Lovely Skeleton Friends... I'd watch a Luke and Ellen's TCoE character stream as well... and voraciously so.
Yes
I agree
Yassssssssss
i like to think that during the Eurogamer stream, Ian felt a disturbance and knew that someone, somewhere, was talking about jorts!
Please, please, please play at least one session with these characters. It'd be a great opportunity for Luke to DM again (and then Johnny could play!)
Yes please!!!
Bitte bitte bitte!!!
Please please pleeeaase!!!
This is almost word for word what I wanted to comment, including the three pleases because one just isn't enough to convey how much I want to see this. Especially if it was one new one in each adventure. Imagine corazon meeting Tristan
Yes please, we need this
@@writeonshell imagine merylwen meeting spore daddy the gnome
I'm sorry, but I just cannot get the idea out of my head of this extremely sassy elf just smirking at someone, growing ten more legs, and then running like an absurd spider at them - still smirking this entire time.
curses! now it's in my head
I can hear Ellen sobbing from here omg
You can always tell what size clothes people that talk to ghosts wear. They're mediums.

Did you ever see the show about the psychics with dwarfism? It’s called Small Mediums.

@@JamesSonOfBaboonzo Is this an actual thing? Lmao
Andy's face at the end, when he realized he already told everyone about the mystery challenge, on Monday was priceless! 😂
Tristan reminds me a lot of Zapp Brannigan. I can picture his artist sidekick sighing and groaning in despair at everything he says. :D
Mike: ok one silly one and one seriously interesting and complex sorcerer for grandma

Looking forward to the eventual levelling video and Johnny's face when Andy starts laugh-saying "level 11, is it?"

"Death of Geth" is currently my favourite for the tshirts.

Never mind playing as these, bring them in as a rival adventure party to battle or compete with the OG Oxventurers
@@Parialated i would love to see the competition for "main character" between corazon and tristan.

@@eric_moore-6126 mad rad
"I've got a pair of dice, and I don't know how this will end"
a warlock who's sub-class is the genie patron thing,
but a true chaos neutral patron,
who gives you a set of dice,
and DnD rules on rolls (except gettibg the max roll means getting another roll, recursively),
and each roll of dice a totally different magic happens which does what you want in a reverse-wish-master : (you don't get the spell you want, but you get the result you want, eg grease means everyone in range gets hit by lightning or something, but everyone's down in the end)
so like you're a warlock but no one knows what you are coz you can perform spells from any class,
and true chaos neutral means your patron God has weird objectives in each encounter/mission,
and your party has to help or else a weird consequence
plus the personality of the patron is not your personality,
so you can be lawful good etc,
but your combat/magic style is true chaos neutral,
so you can be the most useful or the most destructive, only the dice know
and of course you can choose to balance it,
but imagine a party of true chaos,
any stat check has no modifiers,
any ability has no profeciency,
only that you can choose to multiply by your level, or not, the dice know
I really thought he was doing a finger heart until I looked a little closer.
Subtitle: how the Oxbox team served Johnny a bunch of future antagonists on a plate.
Also Andy's last character sounds like a fun guy (someone had to say it).

Patron idea: A group of bored, rich nobles that are constantly making bets decided by the quests you go on (see Rat Race)
Loved all the characters, but I was hoping that Johnny would make one!
😭😭😭 meee too
i definitely thought it was going to be two each and then Johnny would take lucky number 7
Can we Just appreciate how adorable Johnny is. With his sweater-paws and his while everything?
I love all of these characters so much.
Can we get a oneshot of this?
Like a mostly social setting, with their characters it would be very fun. An influencer paladin, a conn artist warlock and a horrible spore necromancer.
Both Jane and Johnny are rocking INCREDIBLE hair today!!
Catching up. Seeing Johnny putting their head in their hands at Andy makes me so happy
Jane have you thought of a version of your Efreet warlock being a fire genasi? that way your patron dad could be actual dad, could be a huge amount of fun to play.
And all the daddy issues jokes in the world conveniently fits in her vessel.
You know what would be really cool? A body swap oxventure where their current characters end up in the bodies of these guys.
I love this idea, but how about a body swap between the Oxventurers themselves? Prudence in the body of Egbert, Egbert in the body of Corazon, Corazon in the body of Merilwen, Merilwen in the body of Prudence, and Dob swapping with one of Johnny's creations, like his dwarf (forgot the name, yikes) or his rogue with a French accent that thinks that 1 Gold piece is immense wealth (again, forgot the name) =)
Rust on the Harbour was Johnny's Rogue I think?
@@Banquet42 That does ring a bell, yeah! =)
@The Gaming Meta Oh, I must've missed that! Gonna go look for that, sounds interesting. Any idea from when that Q&A was, to narrow down my search? =)

Pretty much loving all the new characters, but if I'd to choose, I'm probably locking forward to Jane discovering the stupid, unkillable fun, that is playing a barbarian, the most. Add in the wild magic's unpredictability and strap in for some absolute ridiculousness!^^
Andy's character: Makes pacts with ghosts, gradually becoming more and more ghost-like herself.
Jane's character: Makes pact with genie, gradually becoming more and more genie-like himself.

I was NOT ready for Tristan Shimmerwick, thank u so much Mike
Love Jane's shirt. It gives a mighty yet fabulous look.
I was into dnd for a while but never had a group. I got back into after seeing critical role but I've since stopped watching them as much. But the oxventurers have never stopped entertaining me. They may play fast and loose with some rules compared to my group (I play in an adventurers league so no homebrew stuff and not a lot of rule bending) but the rules have always been just guidelines so who really cares. Its videos like this that keep me coming back as much as the actual adventures
I always find it funny whenever I read comments here or on critrole of people rules-lawyering the players like they've just committed sacrilege or something. Honestly, these people are just having a fun time playing a game everyone loves, and that's enough for me to keep watching.
@@jothamfunclara5135 initially it made sense and I think I may have done it but it was more because they made it clear they were all new players and Johnny was still new to DMing. But now they're (relatively) experienced so you know the mixup are more house rules or learning experiences with new abilities (like andy with evasion during Luke's adventure)
Well, the whole lot are professional writers, so there is this innate tendency to explore and test the boundaries. They don't follow the script-- they _write_ it themselves!
@@BogeyTheBear "test the boundaries" would help explain the goose puppets ellen made last year
My first character concept from Tasha's is Milo Glimstejn, an old Halfling gardener, the fire keeper of his burrow and recent widower. His loving relationship to his family's burrow, the garden and the fire made him a Circle of Wildfire druid. Fire heals and fire hurts, it gives warmth and it leaves cold ashes. And when you bury the ashes, new life grows. He's a gentle soul, but ever since the death of his human wife, who fell peacefully asleep he grew restless. Now he is on a journey to relive the travels of his youth, where he learned his craft. Also he seeks the most beautiful blooming grove to bury his wife's ashes, after which he wishes to return to his family.
He wield's his wife's sabre, a staff for walking, wears a thick boar hide as armour and uses a large pine cone as a spellcasting focus. And I really want him to be proficient with cook's tools.
So my concept is that he's kind of the party's moral compass. He's old, he's wise, he tries to be a pacifist where there's no need for violence and he also likes to tend to the people around him. He cares for his party and he puts the need of others first. But finally he's aware that he will part with them and is very aware of the dangers that he faces. As for his flaws is that he gets very attached to the people around him and he's kinda peculiar? He's not aware of how society works outside of his small village and he's not aware of, how for example, bartering works. He's socially naive I'd say.
Edit: I will probably never get to play him, because I'm the forever DM in my group :(
I have faith youll get to play him. Bless
this is incredible- "uses a large pinecone as a spellcasting focus"- hey pesto! pesto-- pine nuts, geddit?? :') also love the pineal gland/third eye resonances there as well. inspirational character bio/exposition- thankyou for sharing this
I feel you there, being the forever DM for your group. I stupidly introduced my friends and family to D&d, so now I have two campaigns in my homebrew world where I'm the DM forever.
I hope you do (as I know how it is being a forever DM eyeing off the new Artificer) maybe suggest a campaign where you all take turns to DM a session each? Sometimes players don't know they'll enjoy being a DM unless they're given the chance.
Thanks for all the sweet replies :)
I think I might get to play him at some point, yes. As two of my players suggested writing up some homebrew campaigns of their own. But one of them is more of a social roleplaying game where deception and persuasion are gonna be very important. The other one is a game of Call of Cthulhu.
Also @Joseph Hales, I'm sorry i didn't get the references. The pinecone is actually a nod to using pinecones as fire starters. :D
And concerning the pineal gland... I'm pretty sure Milo has tried nothing more than a little pipeweed in his time. :b
Damn Mike’s second character idea goes HARD and I love Artemis

I concur with chat about the rare two-sided Jane hair; looks nice! ^_^
Is anyone else praying they do a crossover event where the whole Oxventure crew gets kidnapped and a crew of these characters have to rescue them?
I absolutely love this! I've really enjoyed seeing the crew explore D&D!
I love that Constance Davenport became one of Andy’s Uh-Oh story’s on Substack, it was an amazing idea for a character that I really want to see more of
Now they HAVE to do a one-shot with these guys
I just watched an 1 hour 40 mins advert, they should do this as a spin off series with Luke as DM.
They did a relatively good job at making it seem natural, even that otherwise ham-fisted jamming of the mortar and pestle into it. But I guess that makes sense for them as a group/channel: since they aren't all _that_ deeply immersed into the D&D community, they can approach this material with a more genuine "oh gosh, have you heard about this cool thing called rage and how this book affects it" tone than other content makers might pull off.
You must do this for Oxtra! And another one each for jane and mike!
Please?
I absolutely love the Oxventures and the oxventurers and the GM and the Mythos around it all... better than any TV show Ive ever seen
I really like Jane's hair in the video. Looks great.
They moved Artificer Battlesmith over to Tasha's and cleaned up how the Steel Defender functions. You can give it magical gear (Like your own spell-storing ring) and it can cast from it, amongst other things. :D I can't wait to cause huge amounts of mischief with my new mechanical leopard.
Tristan Shimmerwick just made me think of a song: "I took the Oooooaaaath of Glory / And I'm hanging on a legend of me!"
I cant be the only one who thinks Mike's Tristan character and Andy's character erastus would make the best pair of reluctant best friends. A bit of a cliché but still so adorable.
I feel like Tristan overwhelming self importance and confidence would be something erastus would secretly admire. And Tristan could learn to humble himself.
I totally ship that epic friendship.
Just gonna put it out there that Corazon's a sailor by trade and traditional sailor tattoos are a pig and a rooster on the left and right foot, respectively, to ward off drowning. Also a swallow represents 5,000 miles of sailing, and a shellback turtle for crossing the equator.
What do you get if you multiclass a spore druid and a bard? Bardic In-spore-ation!

This was my first thought. Has it occured to Johnny yet?
@@kunegund9690 maybe he didnt own Guildmaster's Guide to Ravnica, where it was introed and had not seen the horror that circle really is
The nice helpful mimics that Jane mentioned made me wonder if you could make a Rincewind like character with a pet Mimic in the shape of a chest with a hundred little legs that does most of the fighting while your character either hides or runs away. I mean it would have to be a dexterous character with high constitution, Luck and longstrider are essential, but he can’t have too much working magic since Rincewind needs to be really bad at it, or at least the magic should be hillariously useless or prone to go wrong at least. Things like prestadigitstion, disguise self, and mend would definitivelly work but you couldn’t have Rincewind troughing fireballs. Sumoning spells could also work since that could simply be due to him seeming to attract trouble but also luck out of it. So say he’s facing a band of Goblin and all seems lost when suddenly a huge bear comes looming out of the woods attracted by the smell of the bear poo Rincewind happend to fall over in earlier, and by shear luck the bear attacks the Goblins instead of Rincewind.
I think it's 100% the idea (i have a player who's repeatedly tried making him in game to the point we've built a custom mimic companion that he has absolutely no control over and has eaten quite a few bad guys already... This would be a fitting homage to Pratchett's character)
Artemis Shrike sounds like such a badass character. If they ever do a one off, Mike should totally play him! The clock shop sounds like Howl's moving castle
What I really like is that oxbox isn't trying to find out which new subclass is the strongest but just focus on the most fun option for them. It's such a nice way to gaming.
Johnny!! Thats an idea for if the crew starts pushing for magic tattoo's. Make them quest for them!
Tristan and Corazon would be conflict comedy gold - Tristan being the celebrity Corazon *thinks* he is; Corazon thinking the adoring crowd is for him when it’s for Tristan
Love the characters! Could be great to see a one-shot or two with some of them? That's often the best way to try out some new characters anyway; one-off adventures means there's no pressure if you decide you don't like a character after all.
Also curious if Johnny forgot that Tim the Goblin from Dungeonbreaker is Circle of Spores? Has he just left the character details up to Meehan and not realised quite what a spore powered little monster the Dungeonbreaker has its on hands?
1:04:55 so, if i understand correctly, Mike wants to summon a literal F1 pit-stop crew all around him to fix and refuel the team (and the area of effect matches too!)
Interesting ideas there folks. Fun take on the swarm-keeper.
Surprised that no-one chose an artificer.
Unfortunately as someone who loves artificer ( I love having weird mechanical beasts as a steel defenders from gorilla's to giant war mammoths) I'm not terribly surprised. Few people are either interested in playing them despite them being the most creative class, especially when it comes to inventing how exactly their 'magic' works. I mean it's possible for them to make magic flame throwers, corrosive elixirs and power armour, but it takes a fair bit of imagination to make Mundane things sound magical in comparison to 'magic just works without any need to think about how it should work.'
@@meikahidenori For some reason my players never pick artificer as their main class (one was thinking of crossclassing after playing a home-brew getaway driver rogue in a post-apoc game so he could make his own spycar), but they always love the artificer NPCs.
Part of me was expecting an artificer hear just for the improved chance of getting pets.
I'm currently bouncing around the idea of a goblin armourer who is trying to build a human-proof suit because he's fed up with adventurers ruining his day.
Tristan the Affluencer with his own personal painting paparazzo is genius. You need to do a one-shot to play with these guys!
I’m playing a Genie pact Warlock, and let me just say thatthe genie vessel is great for rp and gameplay potential. She has to regularly gift her patron magic items in order to keep her favor, and uses the lantern as a sort of depository. As well, with her being a triton with a marid patron, I was able to argue that the lantern should totally be full of salt water, given that it’s meant to be a comfortable space for the warlock. Being able to hide in a lantern is also super useful too.
The phantom archetype kind of sounds like how Talion and Celebrimbor fight together in certain moments.

I love how these characters seem to have inspired their blades in the dark characters.
The reliable talent doesn’t effect attack rolls or saving throws
Yo love the content over all the years! I love these new characters too. Totally understand it would be loads of work but, it would be so fun to see a mini series with this bunch. Like a 4 episode special or something? We all need to see Tristan
I imagine Mike's clockwork sorcerer's healing cube to be tons of modrons falling down on you and wiping your face, combing your hair and fixing your clothes, while the rest heals and fixes your stuff, like a loving mom. Maybe even gather things for you and make lunch and stuff XD
In the Dimension 20 side quest Pirates of Leviathan, one character is a famous singer and has Tristan’s “every NPC reacts” problem. It’s actually pretty funny.
Like Melf is named after gygax 's son's character. "What's your character's name?" " um. I dunno. " " what's that at the top of your sheet? ". " he's a male elf " "welcome to the party Melf"
I'm doing a cross class between Clockwork Soul Sorcerer and an Artificer, having them start out as an Artificer and discovering their Sorcerer talents as they dive deeper into the mechanics of Artificing. Backstory is they really wanted to be an Arachnomancer, but Lolth never answered them, so they went 'screw you Lolth, I'll be an Arachnomancer anyway, without your help!' and just kept making lots of of mechanical spiders.
Their variation of the Steel Defender is a much larger mechanical spider (around the size of the Acromantulas from Harry Potter) with a seat on its back. Cupholders included.
Tristan sounds like a character everyone would enjoy failing at stuff, but I also always enjoy characters attempting something absolutely ludicrous and then managing to do just that, which the Oath of Glory is just perfect for.
I like watching Johnny's face. Esp when he has to cover it
For the Oxventure I would love to see a guesting session with Tristan the Affluencer, and the party rescuing Jane's grifting fake-genie from nobles he's cheated and who drives them mad with his "WISHMASTER!" catchphrase. XD
Artemis is giving me HUGE [spoiler] from Discworld vibes. I love it!
Ohhhhh! True!
Andy is my kind of spoopy, I love it :P Are you sure you weren't inspired by a certain Hannibal episode for the spore druid?

Turns out Oxventure was already playing with a group patron via Binbag. XD
One of the most fun and wholesome DnD characters I made was a Goblin Barbarian Gladiator who took the socks of his defeated enemies to hang on his belt as unwashed trophies. He had a pet dire rat named Cheesus and used all his reward money to buy and send supplies to his clan back home.
The most effective character I made was a Tiefling Ranger that had the hoard breaker specialisation. He had the usual "my family were killed by abominations from the sea and I've sworn vengence against all seaborne monstrosities" backstory, so Johnny would be proud of his vow to slaughter every whale.
I had an idea to have a mimic follow our party as sort of a chest of holding that would explain where all the loot goes.
This is crazy!! Shan and Andy's fake vampire are uncannily similar to characters I've tried to make before but obviously the rules weren't quite there and mine where different but thematically similar. For example my barbarian simply had a club that he whittled slots for magic items and he could randomly activate a random artifact's spell upon impact. But Shan is way more streamlined and I'm glad it's a class now. DMs wouldn't let me make them. Like minds.
A Clockpunk Sorcerer that builds Heath Robinson-esque machines does sound pretty cool, to be honest. The Phantom class sounds intriguing, as does the Genie patron Warlock.
That ranger has been to Rapture and gotten bee-hands. That skill finally makes sense
Yeah...Andy discovered the circle of spores. The greener side of necromancy 😁.
1:28:50 Baba Yaga's flying mortar transport reminds me a lot of Baba Yaga in the Rise of the Tomb Raider DLC
I'm imagining a scene where Artemis brings his party back to his home, but can only enter when he knows it's time and the mechanism at home is ready for and aligned with him. It's only once inside that he can adjust the mechanism and redirect the subroutines to accommodate additional people into the building.
1:11:30 I like how Jane is foreshadowing the future 🤣
Heaven help Johnny if they get their hands on the Kobold Press character options!
