I had gastric sleeve done 2 years ago and have lost 215 pounds. I’m off my 3 types of insulin medications and feel 100% healthier! I don’t even recognize myself when I look in the mirror. For the first time in over 40 years, I’m NOT obese!
That is soooooo wonderful!! I am so happy for you!! Thank you so much for sharing your good and successful experience with me!! Sending so much love to you! ♥
Hi April! I'v decided to be your silent/tandem weight loss buddy! We weigh the same now, and I did start Wegovy about a month ago and have lost 10 lbs. I'm not sure I will stay on it. It for sure has curbed my appetite. I'm just not sure I need to keep taking it. I haven't for a couple weeks and I still seem to be in control of my portions, but anyway! I'm 5 10 so a bit taller but I am trying for 165! I'll Keep posting my weight when you upload! Glad things are getting better! Anybody else want to join?
As a general rule the focus should be protein. Broccoli was probably painful as it’s high fibre - at this early stage I wouldn’t focus on greens so much - eat the protein and take your multivitamins and you should be fine.
Hopefully you'll be able to stomach all foods soon. I had the sleeve and I ate whatever I wanted too early but had no issues. I got to my heaviest weight after the surgery because I didn't follow the rules. Thank God I got my act together and started eating healthy and exercising. I've lost 180 lbs since I got a good personal trainer.❤ I'll be praying for you.
Hi April! Here's a trick for broccoli... don't eat it first. Eat protein and some starch before ingesting it. It helps keep away the stomach irritation. Once your body is used to it again, then you can eat it in whatever order you want.
Not related to the video - are you wearing lipstick? I am looking for a natural color and if you are whatever you’re wearing is flattering. Please share!
I have my consult this week for surgery! I’m excited. But very scared. I’d really love a video on the prep before surgery, and your emotions with giving up solid food for several weeks and that whole process. That’s what I’m super worried about.
You’re killing it April! I found after a recent surgery (hysterectomy) it took me 12 weeks to get any energy back, and it was limited. Like you said, it’s ok! A way I get in extra protein is I add a scoop into my Greek yogurt = 44g, and taste amazing. Get yourself a ninja creami, another amazing way to get protein in and easy on the belly. I use fair life protein shake as my base and any fruit add ins. Over here 🇨🇦cheering you on 🎉.
I started following you when you first started and our journeys have been similar. I started out heavier (370) and after losing 130lbs naturally I gained 92 of those pounds back! I'm back at it again and when I saw you were posting again I was happy to see that you are too! Best of luck to you on this journey!!
You look happier every week! I really appreciate your dialogue about being depleted. Its something to consider as we are fueled by what we have already eaten. Hopefully you can figure that out and get back to doing all the fun things you like to do!
I’m definitely feeling better and better as I heal and get back to regular life or my new regular life, haha. Thanks so much for your sweet comment and encouragement! ❤️
Scuba diving in Hawaii sounds like a dream. Congratulations on getting your spark back, your weight loss is great and should be commended but you really seem like you’re coming back to yourself 💜
HONEY, I KNOW IT GETS HARD SOME DAYS TO EAT THE SAME THINGS, BUT REMEMBER EACH MORNING GOD'S MERCIES ARE RENEWED. I ALSO LEARNED THAT WHATEVER MY MIND KEEP BRING UP IF I WAS PREPARED FOR IT I DID NOT PANIC. JUST PREPARE AND GO FORTH WITH JOY. PRAYERS.
I had my gallbladder removed in January and I started slow With sólida. I had lots Of liquids and soups with low sodium. And sugar feee jellos and smoothies and broths. You have to be careful not to eat solids so quick. It will affect your bowels. After about 2 months I was able To Slowly introduce sólida into my diet again. As Of today, I can’t eat certain foods because it causes bowel movements good luck on your journey! I recommend probiotics and activa yogurt for gut health
If you have a fear of having an accident, it may bring you comfort having a spare pair of clothes in your trunk. It may calm your fears to have the security of the back up clothes just in case.
Love love love that you’re diving! It’s so beautiful down there! What certs do you have? I got my open water in January! I’ve only been diving off Maui!
It's so wonderful!! We have SSI Open Water and we did a couple specialty courses. That's so cool! I hope to dive in Maui eventually!! I love it so much! ♥
@AprilLauren of course! I was approved for VSG and I'm starting the process, so even though not the same surgery, I'm learning and relating quite a bit. So glad to see you smiling again. You always smile, but you can see the happiness in your eyes again. ❤️
Thank you for describing your WLS experience so honestly. You explain the complex recovery process in such detail, which is amazingly helpful for anyone who may be considering the same treatment. I'm wondering how you dealt with the depression symptoms that you had struggled with, or if there's a treatment plan for that side of things in place to work hand in hand with your physical recovery?
Prosac and therapy is how I handled the depression symptoms. And, thankfully I do have sessions with a counselor who has extensive experience with bariatric patients. That is helpful. While not a required part of my surgical team's plan, I felt it would be best for me. Sending lots of love your way! ♥
Broccoli is my favorite! (Was my favorite…) that was so painful, it makes sense that it’s recommended to avoid it in those circumstances and in mine. ❤️
@AprilLauren I haven't had surgery but I learned it the hard way too. I wonder if the foods to avoid with IBS would correlate with bariatic surgery recovery. It seems like you're doing everything right! So inspiring!
Hi April. Congratulations on your weight loss. I’m currently on vacation in Oahu. It’s so beautiful here! We might try snorkeling at Sharks Cove tomorrow! Thanks
Aww, thanks for encouraging me! I can do romaine lettuce, asparagus and a few other veggies now. That makes me happy that it got better for you!! I hope it does for me too. 🥰
It might be that your reaction to broccoli is due to your gallbladder removal. My mom had it removed two months ago and it's recommended that one not eat broccoli/cabbage/cauliflower/cucumber for up to 6 months after the surgery. Also, no beans of any kind.
You don’t need to give up broccoli. A lot of foods will disagree with you temporarily. Keep introducing them at intervals. Don’t overthink it. You’ll be afraid of every food otherwise
Maybe try cooked spinach instead of raw salad greens to help your nutrient status? Curious if your dietician has you supplementing too. You look great!
🩷 the beach clips! 🌊 Swimming is great way to build lungs for scuba. I always do kick sets w scuba swim fins too. Sometimes I walk laps too, frontward and backward.
Yeah I have gut issues and even well cooked I can struggle with cruciferous veggies like broccoli Brussel sprouts cabbage etc hurts so bad when it bloats.
@AprilLauren I would suggest trying small qauntity well cooked (roasted or something) on their own no other food. I found after a flare up this was easiest way to ease myself back in to tougher to digest foods. That way if I bloated my stomach didn't already have food in it making it worse.
Thank you so much for coming back to share this new chapter of your journey. I’m so excited for what’s to come and can’t wait to celebrate with you as you reach your goals! Question, how long do the bouts of pain last when you eat too much or have foods that don’t agree with you?
Luckily I have avoided overeating. I always stop when I get my first hunger cues. The broccoli incident lasted a few hours. And, that one time I drank too much too fast while I was on the phone with my Mom, it lasted 10-15 minutes, I think. It didn't last long at all.
Thanks so much Shelly! I definitely did not have a good time with the broccoli, but I am grateful to be able to introduce foods slowly... while sometimes it's awful (broccoli), it's also been interesting.
I am 15 months post op from RNY and can't tolerate lettuce, rice and sugar. But it is fine and I'm down 145 pounds. Be careful with things like Cheese its, at least for me they were triggers. If I want to eat more slider foods are essy and actually I can eat without thinking which is relaxing and "fun", but not good. I know you will, but always remember your why.
If you don't like killing the fish, don't pay someone else to do it for you because you're still causing that death. Please don't catch and release either- imagine the immense pain of having a hook go through your cheek and then just having to deal with that pain, no painkillers or stitches to help. That is so cruel.
You will find that some days you will not be able to eat some foods that you are the week before. I know I had some fresh salmon one week , but tried it again the next week, but my tummy decided it no longer liked it, I suffered a lot. of pain. @@AprilLauren At first it can be scary, but you will become used to how your tummy reacts to different foods. I even found food I hated before WLS I loved after the surgery. LOL. Enjoy the experience, sweetie. 👍
It is different each time Sometimes broccoli gets stuck for me too. Usually if I chew it to oblivion it’s better. 🤷🏻♀️ but you’ll get the hang of it as you learn your new body! 👍😉
Great video! I can tell you're starting to get more comfortable with vlogging again. You're doing great. You just seem like a delightful ray of sunshine. You could not be sparkling anymore because you just seem so happy and proud of yourself as we are all very proud of you too.
As far as craving greens, I so get that 😅 I’ve never craved a salad in my life… until I was on blood thinners for a bit and couldn’t have vitamin K. I think it’s some subconscious urge to rebel or something 😂 also I am cracking up at “Mr. Clean Aquaman” 😂
yes i feel bloated after greens i think that it takes a bit to break it downand also I think if you eat a certain way your body will adjust. Just wishing you all the best❤
I bought protein gel packs they have 15 grams. I will take one of those if I'm short of my protein. It's just if I have eaten stuff that doesn't just make the protein mark but I can eat another thing or I'm on the run. Great job ! Thanks for sharing the broccoli 🥦 experience I haven't had broccoli yet..I live broccoli!😢
I have just eased back into making videos. It’s been a process. I am sure I’ll branch out and do those again when I feel more comfortable filming that way. 🥰
I thought you would work hard and not opt for bariatric surgery April. When I started, I was the same weight as you, I took your channel as inspiration and started working out and eating sensibly, and now I am 179 lb, down from 320lb. I don't know why you couldn't keep your determination and motivation, again, I should believe that everyone is different.
Thats one way to lose weight, be afraid to eat... I do not agree with taking organs out, rerouting etc. It always comes with causing other problems. It's the prepackaged, salt laden food we eat. You're such a strong woman. You were doing a great job first time around. I think having a support group is important for our mental health and even physical health. I'm wishing you the best with this new journey
Good thing it’s not your body or your organs. This is so rude. She clearly did tons of research, and worked with a medical team. Please explain away all the scientific data and studies that show that weight loss surgery is effective? I’ll wait.
@@sh4577 I've been subscribed to April's channel and a supporter from the start. Because I have an opinion I'm being rude? It's really rather ironic that you say that. I've done my research and wouldn't say anything if I didn't know. I think you should do some research 😊 I never said it isn't effective. Of course it's effective...
@@KatsaGrace1 it’s quite amazing that people still think that “having opinions” is equal to saying facts. You can have all the bad opinions you’d like, but you’re not free from being called out on them. That’s part of having uninformed opinions and sharing them with others. I must have missed the part when April asked if people agreed with her well informed medical choices…? Would you like to specify when she asked for that input?
I eat foods that only have one ingredient. I am doing the carnivore diet but I do have cheese a few times a week and when hungry I eat a non sugar beef stick.
Why did they remove your gallbladder?

where are your what i eat in a day's and exercise videos
I have just eased back into making videos. It’s been a process. I am sure I’ll branch out and do those again when I feel more comfortable filming that way. 🥰
@@AprilLaurenno rush! Take the time you need to heal ❤ I’m so excited to see your progress over the next weeks, months, years. You got this ❤
Couldn't exercise at this point, you could tear your stitches.. couldn't eat much
I thought you would work hard and not opt for bariatric surgery April.
I’ll wait.
Thank you so much for your encouragement and for sharing your thoughts! Sending lots of love your way! ❤️
@@KatsaGrace1also, please enlighten me on your “research”.
I eat foods that only have one ingredient. I am doing the carnivore diet but I do have cheese a few times a week and when hungry I eat a non sugar beef stick.
