  • My wife Traci and I both had bariatric surgery in late-2019. I've lost 195 lbs so far and she's lost 118 lbs. This video is a long-form interview where I ask her about her experiences that led to getting weight loss surgery, why she chose gastric bypass over other surgeries, and her challenges and triumphs over the past six months.

At this point I’ve seen 100’s of videos about bariatric surgery. I’ve got to say that coming across your videos today has been a real treat. Thank you for sharing. My surgery is about 12 days away. Your videos have given me an extra comfort that I didn’t even know I needed.

Hi there . I just found your channel , and yes my only complaint was I wish I did it sooner lol ! I cancelled my surgery twice because I was beyond scared .It took me 5 years to commit . What a waste !! I’m 65 now and I had Rouxny 5 1/2 years ago . I started at 235 and lost 105 pounds . I’m only 5’2 !!im so happy I did it but now comes the crappy part….. I was fine until covid . I made banana bread and started drinking wine ( never drank much before) so I slowly gained 12 pounds . Now I’ve gained 30 pounds all together and am desperate to loose it . I have a bad problem of not wanting to eat until later evening ….. bad bad bad ! So I cut down on the wine and started Ozempic ( I figured if it’s good for Oprah , it’s good for me lol ) so here I am 3 weeks into Ozempic and my fear is real once again hoping it’s going to work . Don’t have big side effects yet just a bit nauseous sometimes and have some acid issues . Hopefully it will subside . Sorry I talk so much but I’m sure you and your lovely wife understand totally . Good luck on your life journey 😘Happy to have found you both .

I hope to have bypass in 3-6 months. I met a neighbor today and we have our small dogs in common. She then tells me about her health journey and had gastric bypass in 2003 and is getting back on her program. She said she is available as a resource. Plus our dogs can hang out. My surgeons office is great too!

Wow okay I've been looking for people with IIH who also had bariatric surgery.
    I am looking into surgery.
Did you get any flairs due to losing weight quickly?
    Did it affect your IIH?
I also have a chronic illness (my Dr. thinks I may have ME too, but I think it may just be from my chronic daily migraine) anyway, it's awesome to hear someone who has a similar situation to mine going through this.
    Thank you!

I didn't have any flares due to the quick weight loss, and it did help resolve the IIH. Haven't had any severe headaches since I had the surgery. Doesn't work for everyone, but it did for me.

My wife has maintained a loss of about 120 pounds and looks great; she has very little loose skin. I had some regain the past couple of years but have also managed to keep off 120 pounds and am started to lose again. When I was at my lowest after losing about 200 pounds I was just starting to notice a little loose skin on my belly, but it wasn't super dramatic--I mostly just looked a little pudgy in my midsection.

I keep asking myself, if this operation is a lifestyle change, why am I doing the op? What is the op doing that I can’t? Do I need half my stomach removed to prevent me from eating the wrong foods especially since I don’t really have a problem with portion control. So many questions…. 😞

It's sugar that we're addicted to. I quit sugar for a few months and lost 30 pounds pretty quick by just cutting out, sugared drinks, donuts, cookies, cakes. Even my beloved tea and boy did I love my tea! I stitched to water. Funny I went back to sugar but never back to my tea. I wanna quut sugar again I know its bad for me, but it's definitely addicting! Ive gained my 30 pounds back after getting really sick and having to bevin bed for two months. Ugh

I still struggle with sugar as well. Sometimes I'll go months without it, even over a year sometimes, but I always seem to relapse. I'm currently in one of my good phases where I'm not struggling with it as much and I'm losing more weight, but I know the cravings will return sooner or later.

It is a common complication. It happens to about 3-5% of gastric bypass patients. Crossing my fingers I'm in the 95-97% that don't develop it.
