  • This is the first of the engine rebuild series of videos.
The cylinder block was fitted with new liners and bored to match the new pistons. The pistons were sitting proud of the cylinder block and needed some careful machining to remove 160 thou from the crown. Not something I had done before so with lots of careful measuring and taking my time to set up the pistons in the lathe with trepidation I started removing metal. I’m pleased to say they machined very nicely and my I’m very pleased that once refitted in the block all 4 pistons crowns are flush to the face of the block.
Next up is complete strip down and a thorough cleaning of all parts and oil ways.

Just came across your channel. Lovely car, you've done a great job. Think we're in the same boat. I'm working on a Lotus 22 FJ, trying to get it finished and on track this year. Doing most engine and assembly myself. Might need a few tips along the way. Cheers

Welcome aboard! I’m just making it up as I go along.Building race engines is new to me but I’m loving the challenge.

New to me too. Do you run locked advance on the ignition timing for f31000? Also, what cam and compression? Typically 12:1 plus for FJ. Running A6 cam in mine. FJ also use Lucas hall effect ignition amplifier. Cheers

What kind of cylinder head are you using. That's looks like a Ford Kent block and they usually have pistons with a "dish" in them. I've built a few of the uprated crossflow's.
