MAP27 is one of the most atmospheric gaming experiences for me. I remember playing it as a kid and just being totally absorbed by the dark, eerie atmosphere of that map with this music. Good shit.

I don’t think Mick Gordon can get away with ripping Pantera as easily as id did in the 90s... but then again, Mick Gordon is a living god, so he just might. That being said, I’m casually working on a cover of my own which... will strike a different chord.
Something I noticed about Doom II aside from the game just in-general being the definitive doom experience... Doom 1 was where the levels were iconic and the music was catchy. Doom 2 was where the levels were JOURNEYS in of themselves and the music became _Good_ no shade to doom 1's music at all, but Doom II's learned that sometimes subtler sounds were more impactful than hard rock.

The classic Doom soundtrack took riffs from popular metal songs at the time. Another example is “Bye Bye American Pie” (Barrels o’ Fun) being straight off from Alice in Chain’s “Them Bones”. With minor to significant modifications to the riffs, they were able to get over lawsuits - composer Bobby Prince also has an experience of being a lawyer.

those devs were so lucky that they released doom 2 in 94 in a time way before copyrights laws came into effect, this is either plagiarism of the highest order or a tribute to a beloved song and band, either way they would be fucked by the copyright police today, but by the lucky gods that did never happened.
Bobby Prince, the composer of the classic Doom OST, was a lawyer, so he knew the limits of sampling other artist’s music while composing. This is why id never got in trouble. Also I’m sure copyright laws have been around for quite long. (Edit: Scratch that, I’ve since learned the truth behind the Prince fact)

During the CyberDen Interview, Bobby Prince said that he feared that they could face the consequences because of those songs and even said to the iD guys "Well' y'all gonna get sued. But I have nothing to do with placing them in the game". In the same interview he said that he was surprised that they even got away with it. So, no. Bobby had nothing to do with them not getting sued. It was pure luck.

Every time when I played the level with this bgm, I got the most eerie feeling.
