The reason Taggert was pinching the bridge of his nose and looking down at the end of this clip is because the actor was having trouble holding in his laughter in real life 😂

Yup. As great Eddie is (and he REALLY is), a lot of that movie's best moments are Taggart lol he is hysterical. There are a few moments in the movie where the take they chose is one where other actors around Eddie are trying not to laugh. LOVE it!

@@davidscanlon1244 In the commentary on the DVD, Eddie Murphy never drank coffee before. This day, he drank coffee to perk himself up, and he got into this zone where he was wired and nailing everything on the first take. When they go into this scene, Eddie ad-libbed that whole thing because most of that scene wasn't written, they needed something to fill the scene. So when Eddie went off on that story, John Ashton could barely hold it together.

Even the police chief himself learns something from this scene, and he does the same thing at the end of the movie, when he tells the higher authority that the report that he will be submitting will include this fictional partnership between the Detroit and Beverly Hills police departments.

The relationship between Taggert and Foley really makes this film timeless. Ultimately he wasn’t prepared for the manic energy that permeates Foleys Police work, but once he understood there was a method to the madness he began to realize that Foley was right about everything. The character growth in Taggert really makes the film more compelling. Films today generally have such static characterizations, yet characters like Taggert make films infinitely rewatchable.

I absolutely loved Taggert in these films.
When Foley points out that there are two robbers and he needs Taggert to cover one of them and just says "No Bullshit" to signify that he does not intend to deceive them, I like the look Taggert gives him.

    • @RightCenterBack321

Likewise, the moment Axel told Taggert to watch the other guy made Taggert realize Axel respected him. In the police, someone telling you to watch his back means he trusts you. Axel was telling Taggart, despite their rough start, he still trusted him with his life. There's no higher form of respect in that line of work.

Taggart is just formal & professional enough to be a detective in Beverly Hills, but in moments like this you can tell he saw his fair share of “good old fashion American street violence” with LAPD or some other urban department. Billy’s not a bad cop but is definitely a rookie detective working for his first police department.

You don't see it on this clip, but this is the first time you see Bogimil warming to Axel when he is telling this story. He let's out a little smile before regaining his composure.

Taeggert and Rosewood couldn't Stop Laughing to what Axel Foley(Eddie Murphy) was Improving This has to be Probably one of the Best Buddy Cop Comedies we had back in the 80's

I loved the 80s, when everybody's ass belonged to a police captain at one point or another.
