Please build a gy6 go kart, but not a yerf spider 🙏 can't find anyone who's used one for performance style homemade kart.also love watching you guys, technical build made to look easy yet again :)
So I like your sidewinder mini! Brake lock up solution. When designing a break drum system.... The way you have the linkage on this mini lends itself to lock up. If you design the linkage so the band is pulled on the bottom side it will not lock up easily and provide more precise brake control. Just an FYI from an old guy!
Band brakes were slightly before my time, but all the time they were assembling them I was thinking that surely, pulling on the trailing end of the band is going to make the brakes "Grabby". The bands natural reaction is going to be to try and wrap it's self onto the drum as soon as it's pulled, but if it was pulled on the leading edge it'd going to try to spring off the drum when released.
I built a scooter with a drum and band break that was ment to be on the left side. I had to flip the tire which made the band pull from the bottom. Based on the physics of the rotation and pull in the band, it doesnt work for crap and will ultimately just squeak very loudly with little to no resistance. Gonna install a disc break when I find one off an old bike.
I’m with you old man I’ve been working and building mini bikes and karts sense early 70’s . I think Don Garlitz said it well, “I’ve been backwards upside down and on fire “ and I can attest to that, just not at 200 mph ? I’m the last of the “Ok Boomer’s “ but still have that thing that just love anything that’s made of junk and always needing repairs. now with six grand kids and a few walkon’s make the back 40 track day race a few times a year a monumental task to get 10 to 12 karts to run 100 laps or 5 miles with no budget! Great work
You guys have built some sketchy stuff, but this is not one of those projects, Everything was done with quality, and safety in mind. This is one fast bike done right with a very original concept. Kudos Cars and Cameras crew!
its fast enough to get hurt on for sure... for something like this tho, reliable brakes and a kill switch is safe enough.. that being said ...it is a super kool mini bike i have a couple bikes with sideways mounted engines with 4 speed 90º peerless boxes and a few vids of one i built with full suspension... just sayin lol
The only other safety thing I would recommend is a chain guard on the drive chain. I have seen what a chain can do when it comes loose and it is not pretty. Seen a guy have to get about 100 stitches in the back of his arm from a racing kart back in the day.
@@cthoroughman chain guards are definitely important... that primary drive is just as dangerous as the wheel drive for sure.. the worst are those "torque converter" things they come with a guard that fits on exactly nothing lol and when those belts break shit gets real..
This track is used on a tv show. Might copy right.they need to get in contact before using this.so they don't get into trouble. Best t all due respect it's definitely got that rage vibe.
Your guys fan base is so active and supportive I love it so much lol including me I have watched you guys forever and I don’t even know anything about mechanics 😂😂just enjoy watchin you guys have fun and trying to learn a bit in the process of watchin
Charles is all about the “testing purposes only” style of building these machines. He fits in with the team so well that you almost forget that he’s only been there for a minute.
😂😂 Everytime ike has a decent wreck John always put more gear on while ike wears a little bit more safety equipment and takes it off after about 2 weeks
Alright I love the longitudinal mounted engine. I even look up what the pto box would cost. When an idea struck me. And I challenge you guys. Use one or more of these magic boxes to use a VERTICAL SHAFT lawn mower engine for a go kart build. This is something I wanted to do since I was a kid and had broken lawnmowers lying around but being a kid resources were scarce.
Interesting build. Looks like the gearbox just added weight, complication, and more ways to get body parts tangled in machinery. Nothing like a good Comet torque converter. I remember riding off on my buddy's small tire no suspension mini bike. When I returned the people around the campfire said they could INSTANTLY tell I had crashed by my posture and low speed. Hit some whoops on the dirt road and the damn thing porpoised and threw me like Christopher Reeve.
I love your build guys. Definitely the best bike yet. So impressed. Maybe time for full moded engine rebuild and finish it all with paint job. Idk tossing ideas.
I agree. Shell Rotella T work's great in small engine's. I still add a smidge of Lucas break in oil with the oil change though. I just put 40W T6 in everything from my ATV to 4 stroke weedeater and have never had a problem. I don't add any Lucas to the ATV oil change. Worried too much zinc could cause the wet clutch to slip.
I got the original tires from 1968 on my Mickey Thompson “Mickey Bike” with those same tires. They’re Goodyear Tires on mine. Still got it, just restored it.
Hey guys...been watching the show for a while now and I am a fan. You guys keep it pretty interesting with all the stuff you got goin on. There is one thing that I think the 3 of you should definitely put on the list of to dos. Go down to your local steel wherehouse and buy some 1" or 1 1/4" DOM tubing ( approx 100 dollars and design your own frame and maybe make a custom bobber. The first thing that I think you will find relief in is you can make it to fit all of your dimensions combined so it's comfortable to ride. No more knees above your head?! I just built a custom bobber with a 301 predator. I will send you a few pics of it. It is really rewarding building your own bike with all the right specifications. Good luck and enjoy
Just start using Valvoline VR1 (available from most local parts stores), or buy the Lucas Zinc Additive. The STP stuff you're using doesn't have jack for ZDDP in it, comparatively. I can't exactly remember where I saw the analysis, I think it was project farm, or bobistheoilguy.
Instead of adding zinc to your oil you can use racing oil like Penrite 10tenths or Redline which have zinc in them. Or if you want cheaper you can use marine oil. Zinc was only removed to protect catalytic converters so any oil designed for off-road will have zinc in it.
Maybe consider putting the band break on with the opening at the bottom so break dust can fall out instead of building up. Also, bolt the front to the point you made already and then attach your cable to the rear of the band break in order to keep the break cable straight. Just a suggestion and I feel dumb ever offering you guys suggestions, you def proved yourselves amazing engineers lol Your way may truly be the best lol Be safe guys and thank you for yet another awesome vid :)
Quick facts for the C&C crew.. the stp oil treatment has less zinc and phosphorus than regular motor oil. Only time I use stp is on new bearings cause its thick so it keeps the bearings from touching. But adding it as a zddp additive is not helping its hurting you. Project farm did a oil analysis on it I believe
I just did the most budget build on a mini bike with a $50 doodle bug and a $200 414cc power washer engine and a $30 torque converter and that bike is a rocket ship

I'm sure this is a noob question and they may have covered this and i missed it, but i always wanted to mount a vertical shaft engine as such into a minibike/gokart but never knew how viable, good idea, or even functional or realistic that idea was or if there was changes etc needed to make it survive, work etc.
Yall need to take that to the drag strip and the cross kart that would be fun for yall and fun to watch ... needa do another turbo go-kart build too but build it for straight line performance to try to beat the cross kart it would be fun to see if it's possible to build one faster than a motorcycle built go kart

This build looks so damn cool! 💯💯💯 Amazing video as always!!! THANK YOU GUYS!
It’s so cool how you guys could mount an engine at a 90 degree angle and have it run so well. Congratulations guys!
You too jake!!

It should just be Charlie and Ike and make ol John the camera man

A bit off in left field from the build: Is Charles naming his son Charles Jr? I was thinking 'Rerun' would be a great nickname.
Sidewinder looks like a successful build. Love it. Now how about a vertical shaft engine in a cart or mini bike.
There was the vertical shaft lawnmower that came apart and tossed Ike at over 60 mph. ua-cam.com/video/Svz_ZXko5kw/v-deo.html
