I was rooting for the Sport to make it up Python Pass. The camera really does it no justice. The Ladder is is a straight climb with very little camber, I wasn't that surprised when it made it. That was a fun shoot. My Bronco is pretty photogenic, unlike my mug. lol Thanks Ryan.

I am glad you did the climb. I have a 2023 Bronco Sport Badlands. I added some additional skid plates and sliders. I also added a 2.5 inch lift. I keep up with the Broncos in our club on 90% of what they do. And they mostly have the Sasquatch package. Being my own vehicle, i do not have the same concerns as you. People really underestimate this vehicle. With my add ons it still cost a lot less for more that people expect. Loved the episode.

That’s because people need to validate themselves by hyping up what they have compared to others. Its just funny to me cause those same people acknowledge most of these things are mall crawlers (even for them they probably commute more during the week than off road on the weekend). But whose smarter the one who spends $40k to off road on the weekend or $60k?

That 2 door is the way to go for maximum potential off-roading with the Bronco, and having a guy who really knows his rig was a benefit because you didn't have to guess your way through the multiple set-ups and modes.
Still, that Broco Sport would take me the places I want to go, even beyond into more challenging stuff.

I wanted the 2 door Wildtrak they had on the lot until I saw the $63000 price tag. I have a 23’ Bronco Sport Badlands. I’ve found that putting it on Rock Crawl gets it over just about anything. I’ve done harder trail sections than the ladder in this video. With more aggressive tires it would have breezed past. I’m debating keeping this thing and putting some 245 mud terrain tires on, a 2.5 inch lift and calling it a day or just saving money on mods and trading it in for a 2 door big Bronco. I’m really split right now because I absolutely love this thing and it’s more than capable for 90% of my trail duty, but its biggest weakness by far is its lack of ground clearance. I obliterated my underbody and taco’d my exhaust on some big rocks when I was out overlanding with a big group earlier this year. We hit some real extreme trails and never once did my car not make it past an obstacle or any gatekeepers but I just took way too much damage and had to call it early. Ground clearance is pretty miserable on this thing and unfortunately 245’s is as big as it gets unless you start cutting up the fenders. I’m just here to defend the Bronco Sport because the thing is a serious machine!

I would take the Bronco Sport Badlands with wheels and tires I was not concerned about damaging. As you say, it can tackle this stuff pretty good. And it is cheap to operate. 2.0L engine is sufficient. I would not choose the 1.5L. Curious how a Toyota Rav4 Hybrid with AT's or something grippier would cope with your trail system. I wish there were a manufacture brave enough to at least offer a true locking center differential in these single speed AWD systems. I remember doing the math on the BS compared to the 1st gen Explorer and the numbers were REALLY close. Like within the margin of error for wheel torque 1st gear in the BS to 1st gear low range in the Explorer. The main problem is that the hang on PTO systems build up too much heat and can't handle sustained use. It wouldn't work with Ford's twin clutch RDU, but if they wanted to they could put a dog clutch or locking collar on the RDU so that when you go into "4WD" you are really truely in locked AWD mode, which would automatically increase its capability.

It switches between 2 and 4 auto. This is more of an awd system that uses standard braking to the wheels. Switching between GOAT modes changes this. You have to put it into neutral to switch it into 4WD high or low. So then it won't change as you go through the GOAT modes. Some will just be unavailable while in 4WD until you put it in neutral and switch it back yourself. Lockers are only available in 4WD low range.

The Bronco Sport Badlands equipped with Fallken A/T 3W is the best crossover suv. Toyota rav4 and Honda CRV are for city only. The Bronco goes everywhere. Also it has better seat and better infotainment plus many other options like 400w inverter, rear lamp, lot of 12v and usb plug, electric seat fot driver and passenger, stronger AGM battery. It do 5.9 sec 0-100km/h. I have it. The 2021 first year model and it is reliable. Look at the first year Toyota and Honda, it was bumpy. I will try to keep it for many many years. Don’t buy ev or hybrid. If you have accident with an elevtric vehicle they will ask you 60000$ for the battery change to scrap it because they cannot repair it and it is too complicated to replace. With a bronco no issues, you can change spark plug, belt, transmission and even an new engine with reasonable price. Don’t be caught in the ev scam. Insurance for ev are more expensive and the battery is dangerous in ev. The Bronco sport has a small easy to change and reliable battery AGM compatible with off road driving in all terrain and 60cm of water.

I have one on order, and I FINALLY have a build date, but after waiting for it for so long I started researching other vehicles and kept coming back to just getting a gently used 4Runner ORP for about the same price. I'd like to have a truck bed, but I don't know how much 'real world' capability I'd be leaving on the table. The two door Bronco is probably going to have a greater amount of its weight on the rear tires than the 4-door Bronco or a pickup. To me, it makes sense that it would be much better than any Ranger while offroad. I wouldn't be surprised if the two door wildtrak is better than any pickup. Lets be honest. Pickups were never the ideal offroader. They were built with some capabilities to reach the work site

The Bronco in its current rendition is not a full size vehicle, even Ford lists it as a mid-size SUV. The full size was between 1977-1996.
The 4 Door Bronco is about the same size as the 2022 Grand Cherokee short wheel base, just for size comparison.

@@WindsofChange2112 But, do you need a TRD to keep up with the Bronco Sport? I doubt it, most 4Runners come with A-Track which is pretty impressive. OTOH, A TRD Off Road can be had with KDSS, and then it is a whole new ball game, on road or off. Plus, Toyota reliability.

@BillyBobTup I just wasn't sure if I would get A 4runner is the SR5 OK or would I want the locker on the trd off road. I tend to over think things sometimes. I wasn't as keen on needing the kdss as much as wanting the locker. Proven Reliability would definitely go to the Toyota. But I get a lot if creature comforts and decent mileage.
