Im not denying the severity of your situation or anything, but It was so frustrating that you didnt yell for help haha. There were other skiers maybe 50 yards away. Also, I know this is 20/20 hindsight, but you could've thrown your board out with the bindings down and it wouldnt have kept sliding back in. But great job nit panicking, I would have freaked seeing all that black beneath me.
Me too, but not after falling in tree well or smth else. I just fell in three metres of the piste after it was snowing for a night. I couldn't stand up and move my legs. I crawled to the piste , after i put off snowboard from my legs.
You should of used the Board to help yourself. You could dig a hole and put the board on top and cover it to about half the board on top and the other in the snow. Make sure that you check if the board is stable! Then use the board and lift yourself up.
omg... this exact same thing happened to me yesterday only the hole I fell into was not as obvious as this one. It just suddenly appeared out of nowhere and was over a flowing creek. My buddy had gone ahead of me and had no idea where I was - the hole wasn't as deep as this guys but unlike him, I didn't throw away my board like this! That's just crazy! I needed my board to help me climb out as the sides were not at all stable (scariest thing was hoping the sides didn't collapse on me) and I needed my board to anchor my climb. As a side note, no one can hear you screaming for help down these holes. I called out at first because I was stuck kind of upside down - but eventually managed to get myself out - not even 20 metres away there were two guys sitting down, chatting. Neither of them heard me.
ive had a even worse situation i fell in a rocky hole with a fractured leg and broken arm i spent 2 nights in that hole but after the 2nd night i heard voices and i screamed as loud as i culd for help and the voices where the patrol i dont remember what kind of patrol but the patrol saved my life cuz i was starving super thirsty and really hurt i culd not move cuz my broken arm was stuck in a tiny hole next to my head and my leg was stuck under a huge pile of snow!!!
1. skiing willingly towards obvious treewell (you can see it long before you fell in) - ofc you have to learn about it first. 2. not shouting for help 3. intentionally sliding deeper 4. trying to get rid of your best snow tool at hand (potential shovel) 5. skiing without a partner watching in first place ... I can bet that one day you will succeed in your efforts...
While the comment was too snarky I would hope that even the original video poster learns from this and realizes he could do better. Partner, shouting, keeping your board to use as a shovel or an improvised ice pick all seem like good ideas to me.
I have been trapped two times in such openings. Your case looks like open area appearing over the streams, which not frozen. Also bushes and smaller trees can collect snow and hang over, leaving something resembling a small igloo from inside. Second time i felt, it was stream, had my flashlight, so it was quite interesting experience to look around. As you maybe learned - never throw snowboard with bindings upward. In your case you got your board back, but it can as easy just go away, gl finding afterwards. All adventures in powder must be considered dangerous and you everyone should at least wear powered on transceiver (also carrying shovel with probe can make you useful to other unfortunate fellas).
Crazy shit you went through. I'm wondering if these are marked by the people running the hills or mountain place? Or is this a remote area where it's ski/snowboard at your own risk? Never went skiing or snowboarding so was just curious.
This happened to me, luckily I was with a friend but there still wasn't much they could do because I was a good 10 feet out of their reach. He was there for moral support ya know, haha. He was able to pass me a shovel and it took about twenty minutes to get out. I had to stick my board into the walls of the hole like a 2x4 and climb up onto it and start to a shovel the rest of my way up. Stay safe boys
This happened to me but I fell through 8+ feet of powder and into a creek knee deep. My board, pants and boots were iced over and I had to chip ice off of my board to move. My gloves froze solid too because I had to unstrap my bindings under water. Worth the backcountry powder line though!
Happened to me once. I ended up using my skis as a ramp. I just shaved then down at an angle as hard as I could, which gave me enough support to step on them and climb out. I then went to seek help and came to get them with a shovel. Would have probably done the same with the snowboard in your situation.
+jojobro22 i can say that it is very scary having been in situations not even as bad as this. i have been stuck in cracks that were only 6 or 7 feet deep that took 20 minutes. its a very scary thing. i always have to take at least 5 to catch my breath and calm down
Never happened to me, but besides swearing non-stop, I wouldn't get rid of a snowboard at first and also I'd wait for an employee to notify him about that hole to make sure no one else would fall in
Holy shit! They would have found me dead or crying. I don't think I would make it out of that, but if I did that would be the last time I ever went close to a mountain, or snow.
Dude wtf. Why are you traveling alone? You should never travel alone. That is to risky. Now you know why. But it`s good that you came out alone. You never should travel alone!!!
Shouldn't the video be called like: "How to escape a hole I fell in because I've tried to be cool by riding a side road and failed; while 50 meters away plenty of people were 'wooing down the slope'; people who could have got me out of there in a spree if I would have called for help; but then I would have felt even more ashamed"? I agree, way too long for a title ;).
this appears to be a tree run in bounds. even if he was screaming for help nobody would have heard him. snow is so dense that sound doesn't travel through it.
+Sheldon Mcgreavy Thanks for the reply. I guess an old-school whistle or a loud beeper could help in such situations. Could be yet another piece of equipment to take along besides a GPS/rescue-beacon.
not gonna lie but you looked super uncommited to just going down the moutain and kept carving sort of your fault for doing it in tge tree line like that but whatever dude
"blacks" you sound like you really know what you're doing out on the mountain. any skier or snowboarder who has skill doesn't describe the terrain they ride as "blacks" we use geographic terminology. know what you're doing before you pass judgement. what happened to him can happen to the strongest skier or snowboarder.
Im not denying the severity of your situation or anything, but It was so frustrating that you didnt yell for help haha. There were other skiers maybe 50 yards away. Good job not panicking too much dude
I agree with you

It would have been hilarious if there was a giant fucking grizzly bear sleeping down the bottom of that hole....
This dude like bruce wayne climbing out of banes pit
Joey's Father ikr
Dude that would be a NIGHTMARE! It looks like an ear
I had a similar experience in Vernon BC. This shit is scary as hell. Mad props to this guy for staying calm and using his head.

Me too, but not after falling in tree well or smth else. I just fell in three metres of the piste after it was snowing for a night. I couldn't stand up and move my legs. I crawled to the piste , after i put off snowboard from my legs.
That is true oblivion man. A true nightmare
That was a tree well. Not a giant hole
it is still giant hole no matter if it is treewell.

humans can survive 3 to 4 days without water but if theres snow melt and drink it
there was snow but i culd not reachh
+Mr.Freak also buy a avalanche transceiver

I like the fact that he doesn't speak. He fell like 2 times in a row and was like " Alright, that happened "
geeze glad you are ok. how deep do you think that hole was?
Crazy shit you went through. I'm wondering if these are marked by the people running the hills or mountain place? Or is this a remote area where it's ski/snowboard at your own risk? Never went skiing or snowboarding so was just curious.

Sounds fun. An optimistic attitude will always do you good

Is that running water you hear?
Is that a smurfy under your snowboard?
Calm as hell. Good job.

Glad you got out, Lad!
You should never go Skiing or Snowboarding on your own.
Lucky to make it out alive. That had me freaked out for you!
It's fake
Pongo Zongo ur an idiot
Why did you not use your board as a shovel to dig your way out??
Shane Bryant maybe because the snow wall was a couple of meters tall? It would take forever
Is that a creavase or a tree well
I don't understand , Was it a accident to escape?
That must of been scary how far down did the hole go if you know
Yeah that hole was pretty much deeper then it seem , if you notest some hard snow did fall dawn no sound if he did fall it would be 100 % faitality
Bout Tree Fiddy.
Am I the only one who gets the tree fiddy joke or na
I fell into a hole but my board caught me from falling into the creek and I was upside down
doubt.
The same thing happend to another guy
Why did you throw away the snowboard? Lol, if you didn't make it up by hand
maybe someone would see the snowboard ? and was prob getting in the way
Thanks god he's safe 😇😇😇😇 heart was pounding!!!
0:40 if he would've fallen down the hole...
OwenInOwen ik

That is not a Crevasse
+Luis Borges Its a 'Tree Well'
+Luis Borges Ok, why did you need to point that out?
because the video title says crevasse and that is not one
+Luis Borges Oh okay, it didn't say so on my screen... weird
+Luis Borges He either changed title or you are stupid
Great job remaining calm!
thats why u dont go alone...
Never get rid of the board, use it as the ice axe, shovel, plank to get out!
Could of used the board as ladder stick in snow climb up
How long does it take to climb out of a hole 😂
+jojobro22 i can say that it is very scary having been in situations not even as bad as this. i have been stuck in cracks that were only 6 or 7 feet deep that took 20 minutes. its a very scary thing. i always have to take at least 5 to catch my breath and calm down
Did you not see how much empty space was below him? Good luck crawling out of a well with only packed snow to support you.
Its way Harder than it Looks like. You use heavy boots on snowboard and ski
Holy shit! It's so deep.
Ikr!!!
That's what she said.
My heart is racing right now
Stay on the trails, kids.
You know youre in trouble when you have to unstrap

That happens to me but I was on a skidoo about 30ft drop into a small crack and I'm only 11 I was scared shitless
Is this you or not
Never happened to me, but besides swearing non-stop, I wouldn't get rid of a snowboard at first and also I'd wait for an employee to notify him about that hole to make sure no one else would fall in

Ужас какой... Даже не знаю что бы я делал в таком случае.. о_О
Shouldnt be going on blacks and in powder if you dont know how to snowboard, sucks you had to figure a way out all by yourself
