Mytek Brooklyn Bridge MQA DAC/bridge/pre-amp
Вставка
- Опубліковано 21 бер 2019
- The Mytek Brooklyn now has a version with integrated network bridge that renders from both DLNA and Roon sources. It is, in fact, a Mytek Brooklyn DAC+ with integrated network bridge, hence the apt name Brooklyn Bridge.

Your reviews are outstanding, Hans, clear and precise with the correct amount of information. Thank you.
I found your channel by accident after looking a Darko's review of the same unit. While the price is probably out my my budget. Two kids starting college, I never the less thoroughly enjoyed your video and subscribed. Thank you.
Another great clear review. Thanks.
Keep on keeping on HB.
This was a really excellently tidy and concise review! The video kept a refreshingly quick but digestible pace. This answered ALL of the product detail and comparison questions I had.
Bonus: one of the best dry delivery James Brown Band jokes 😂.
Great review Hans. I always trust your honest 'ears' and really respect your unbiased and independent reviews. I think we're going to see more and more of these combined high end streamers and DACs. About time Chord and a few other companies brought something similar out and with a MQA support to boot as well.
Straight forward review and reviewer and very very reliable.
Certainly helped me to make a purchase decision in the Audiophile hardware world.
Thank you!
thanks i had asked you a question about this before. That time you had replied that you have no idea. Now i am so excited to see your video
Thumbs up for the James Brown reference and excellent info🙂
Excellent as always. Thank you!
Thank you, informative and to the point. I would love if you reviewed NOS dacs also.
Great review. I am debating about the NAD C 658. Wish you would review it. Anyways, Brooklyn Bridge sounds very promising.
I realy like and enjoy your reviews so much!! Congrats and greetings from Mexico 😉
🙏🏽
Great video congratulations.
Great review. Because of this review I’ve purchased the Brooklyn Bridge without a demo. 😂🤣
Your reviews are really good as it’s detailed and most comprehensive. Best of all, you are accurate!
I’m loving the unit. Streaming quality via Tidal Master is really as good or slightly better than a CD.
MQA does have a slight difference. It’s good.
I didn’t. I got it through a Dutch representative. But it’s a busy time for shippers.
Simple Unboxings ... you finally received your unit? Get a good LPS ... it makes an audible difference.
Great Channel!
Bedankt hans
Thanks for this review....

@@TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel Hans, these unit's (including the Mytek amp) might be what I'm looking for...but in this bewildering world of audio, would you be willing to suggest two alternatives that may have come onto the market since March 2019 which are worthy of your recommendations.
Excellent review! I always enjoy watching your honest and informative reviews on audio equipment. Can this DAC be connected to my Mcintosh MC152 poweramp?
Sure, no problem.
@@TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel I don't see RCA plugs on the back of the Brooklyn DAC. How do you connect it to my Mcintosh poweramp? What kind of cable do I need to pair it up with the power amp?
Watch again, there are RCA’s
@@TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel Do you still use the SOtM with the Brooklyn Bridge or you don't need it with this DAC? Thank you for answering my questions.
Hi. Thank you so much for all your great videos I really appreciate the details you get into and yet the simplicity of the videos.
I have a question but wasn’t sure where to post it but here it goes:
Primaluna just came out with a new product line the Evo. Their new DAC Evo 100 Tube DAC is packed with exciting technology. Has there ever been anything like this “SuperTubeClock?
Would really like it if you made a video about different clocking systems. Also hope one day you’ll do a review on the Primaluna Evo 100 Tube DAC.
Thanks.
I don't know. It's hard to judge a product from the marketing info only.
Hans, First off I must say I have only recently discovered your channel on UA-cam. It is a pleasure to listen to someone who possess your knowledge audio electronics.
Two questions,
1) Regarding this review of the Mytek Bridge, and considering the other option of the Mytek Dac +, if someone already has a network streamer (in my case Cambridge Audio) will it produce a sound equal to the Bridge if I run the Cambridge through the Dac +?
2) Using either the Brooklyn Bridge. or The Mytek Dac +, what are your thoughts connecting to a pre-amp vs directly to an amplifier?
Thank you
1) I haven't tried so can't say for sure. But my bet would be on the Brooklyn Bridge. 2) No pre-amp needed unless the power amp has weird input spec's.
Great review specially for comparing it to Sotm .. I'm wondering if you tested the audio quality between wired and wireless? Good to know when considering such a product for our unique setup at home.. the two implementing often don't have the same quality, though I can imagine the network cable, the router, etc. all play a part. Thanks.
No, only ethernet
Was hoping you would review this. Now if only you could get your hands on a lumin d2. I’m torn between these 2 and just cannot get them anywhere to test
Great review as always Hans. I am very curious about the Innuos Zen Mini mkIII but cant find much on it in the way of reviews. Any possibility you might review in the future?
Not on short notice, I will first review another Innuos model
@@TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel thanks Hans. I will look forward to it. The Onkyo, like the Cambridge CXN, would be at the top of my list, if only they were Roon ready. I continue to search for a SINGLE box, that incorporates Roon server, dac, streaming, all in a single chassis, mostly because of the complexity of trying to put together a separate, server, dac, renderer, streamer, and all the cabling and SEPARATE POWER SUPPLIES needed to make it work. Thanks for the excellent work you do.
Bill Sistrunk ... the Onkyo NS 6170 sounds really good. Cambridge Audio CXN v2 is just ok, I sold mine. Most unfortunate the Onkyo is not Roon ready. It’s a very nice sounding streamer.
Hi. Excellent review thanks. I’ve just started using Roon and, good or bad, an important requirement for me is being able to control volume using the Roon app. As you mentioned, Brooklyn bridge and DAC+ support this - which I think is called USB HID. I have an Innuos Zenith Mk3 as my Roon core and was thinking about purchasing a Brooklyn DAC+, but maybe a higher quality power amp than the Brooklyn Amp. Or, maybe there are other higher performing DAC’s/preamps that support USB HID - I haven’t found any so far. Grateful for any suggestions.
Most of them do. If there is volume control, it mostly controllable from software.
Dat is snel! Ben nog bezig! :)
Ik doe alleen reviews☺️
@@TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel Doe je goed. Kijk ze graag! Keep it up Hans.
Hans, as I know Brooklyn bridge is in your system. On my Brooklyn bridge I can't find Sync option for clock in menu. Am I missing something? Thanks
See page 16 of the manual
Hi Hans...just re-reviewed your Brooklyn bridge review...would you put this ahead of a ddc prior to the Tplus?
The answer is in the Denafrips Venus II review: ua-cam.com/video/BB8jLtF0Gjg/v-deo.html
Hans, Can I transfer High Rez files from my noisy computer to a dedicated, seperate hard drive, and play them in their unpolluted form through the Brooklyn Bridge?
Yes, just use a USB hard drive and connect it to the USB A connector on the rear of the Brooklyn Bridge.
My music is on a Mac iTunes library. Can I copy the iTunes folder from my Mac laptop to an external hard drive and connect the hard drive to the bridge through usb and play my music?
My experience is that the Bridge function is inferior. I had stalling and gaps from a connected flash drive. I had horrible sound streaming using Roon or DNLA streaming. My network connection showed over 500 Mbps to the server. Maybe they have fixed these issues with firmware updates. But I gave up. I returned the Brooklyn Bridge and got a Brooklyn DAC+ and a Sonore microRendu. It just works and sounds much better.
Thanks for your video's Hans,
I am looking for a modern replacement for my Wadia 6 and looking for a Dac with volume control and streaming which the Mytek Brooklyn Bridge offers.
But how about the sound quality? My old skool Wadia 6 in my opinion is high standard when it comes to sound quality.
What can you tell me about the Mytek BB? Can it compare?
I don't have the Wadia 6 'in my ears' anymore and therefore find it hard to do that comparison.
Great review Hans. Do I need Brooklyn bridge if I use Roon server on Nuc, which I can connect directly to Brooklyn DAC via USB. I can save some € and buy linear power suply ;)
You don’t need it but it might sound better if the rest of the gear is of the same quality.
Elac Navis ARF-51 active speakers and deciding between mytek brooklyn bridge/mytek brooklyn DAC+
@Hans - I'm stuck and hopefully you can suggest a direction. I'd really like a Mytek Brooklyn Bridge for all the reasons you talk about and especially because it's a Roon endpoint, MQA renderer and a really good DAC at a competitive price point. However, I have a Pro-ject Digital Box S2 which is a really good DAC (as you reviewed it) at its price point. If I were to get a Pro-ject Streambox Ultra and pair it with the S2, would it be comparable to the Brooklyn Bridge? I'm having a hard time justifying the 2x spend on the Brooklyn Bridge for what might be a small jump in sound quality. I would greatly appreciate your perspective objectively and subjectively. Thank you.
It's not the same sound wise. Sorry but I preselect my subjects and they will therefore almost always be about the best in its price class.
@@TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel Thanks Hans. I'll work toward a Mytek then.
Hi Hans, I believe many of us who have the Mytek BB are shopping power supplies. Would you consider adding the Keces P3 and/or P8 to your reviews and do a relative comparison with the others you've reviewed already? Cheers, B
Great idea, but no promises
Hi Hans, I recently purchased an etherregen to compliment my Brooklyn Bridge, hoping it would remove some problems with higher frequency metal percussion (sounds like time smear, or compression, or distortion- I can't say) . Is this a problem you encountered when streaming from the Bridge rather than using it as a DAC/Pre? Is this a problem you have encountered and solved before?
I use the Brooklyn for years now and I don’t recognize your problem.
Hello Hans, thanks for the review. Can you explain a bit more on your advice of using a 12 volt 5 ampere external power supply? Looking at specs i thought 3 A suffices? I have a keces p3, hence my question. Kind regards Jurjan
It just sound better when I use the Ferrum Hypsos power supply that does 5 amps. Most DAC's need a beefy psu when using a linear psu. But if your setup sounds great, why bother.
@@TheHansBeekhuyzenChannelmuch appreciated for responding with lighting speed. Was thinking the extra psu was maybe required when using an usb drive connection. Thanks again.
👍🏻
Mr. Hans I subscribe to ur channel love Al ur info I purchased the Brooklyn dac plus off ur opinion I'm looking to go a step further buy getting a power supply to enhance the sound quality would the combo of keces p8 & sotm xtusbultra work well. Ok Mr Hans I have the brookli dac plus & the bluesound node 2i can't find where I can purchase the syntaxx etreme performance power supply will the tx usbultra work as a good external power supply thxs for ur response. I would like syntaxx
Question. Mr Hans do the bluesound node 2i & the sotm sms ultra200 have the same functionality I don't buy something. Twice thxs Mr Hans
One question. If you connect an USB hard disk in the USB 2.0 port, can reproduce DSD, MQA archives? Thank you :)
No. The usb can only be connected to a computer.
You mention adding an external grade 1 audiophile 12v DC power supply such as the syntex. However as you have pointed out in other videos the syntex is rather expensive and there is a waiting list. Can you recommend some other manufactures of quality 12v DC power supplies? Thank you.
If you want to use a linear power supply, it needs to be capable of delivering lots of current fast. This means that a large mains transformer is needed. Large transformers hold a lot of expensive copper and thus will always be costly. The sBooster BOTW P&P power supply does give some improvement, if you want to spend less money.
@@TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel Han thank you for your reply. I should have pointed out I live in The Philippines which is 220V 60Hz. I have decided to buy the Mytek Bridge, however based on your video with the Mytek and the Syntexx power supply I am concerned I will not be able to get the performance you speak of without the Syntexx. It's almost a tease in the sense that the Syntexx is not sold outside of the EU market place. (I should mention I am using high quality step down converter and power conditioner for my 110v equipment and a power conditioner for my 220V equipment) You mention in the video I referred to that had used the sBooster supply prior to the Syntexx, to what degree did the sBooster increase the performance of the Mytek?
If connected directely to a power amp, do you recommend the analog or the digital volume control? Thanks!
I use the digital control.
@@TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel Thank you.
How about Naim ndx2?
How does it sounds if playing mqa tracks wireless through mconnect?
I can't say, I don't do smartphone reviews. If Mconnect sends the audio bit perfect (so no volume control or DSP) and the wireless connection to your access point is satisfactory, it should play fine.
Can a CDP coaxial (play MQA CD) streamed a MQA format to SPDIF of Mytek Brooklyn Bridge?
If the questions if whether an MQA cd, played on a cd-player and sent over SPDIF to the Mytek Brooklyn Bridge will be decoded and rendered as MQA files, the answer is yes.
Instead of using Syntaxx Xtreme Performance or some other external power 12 Volt adaptor, aren't the 220 volt built input of the "Brooklyn bridge", better to use?
If that was the case I would not spend almost a grand on the Syntaxx.
@@TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel True. Sorry if my question sounded a bit stupid or ignorant. But true, are kind of new to the HIFI world. And enjoy your videos from time to time. Also watched your Syntaxx video. And the way they use solid copper wires instead of a printed circuit board, plus the price, the quality of the power should also of cause be much higher. Were maybe also thinking, if having an adaptor that be of high or low quality, you remove maybe some heat from the "Brooklyn Bridge" because the it's power are driven external instead of internal? Regards from Krusty/Tom in Denmark.
Hi, Can I leave it in "standby" mode for a long time or do I have to switch it off completely almost every time?
Please don't ask the same question twice....
whats your opinion on non oversampling dac vs these.I had chance to listen in my friends house to listen to sotm sms 200 hooked to singxer su 1 and i2s to holospring non oversampling dac which he highly regarded as the best setup. But i found it lacking in treble and lean on bass.only mids were excellent.I had make up my mind its not my taste.
I have no opinions on basic working principles for it all depends on how it is implemented. People tend to seek certainty in components or circuit designs but it is all about how well they are implemented.
I find up sampling to dsd makes a significant improvement to the areas you said were lacking with non over sampling. I up sample to dsd 512 with audirvana being sent to a sotm 200 ultra
@@badd99 That only means that Audirvana does a better job oversampling than your DAC.
@@TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel audirvana will over sample better than pretty much any dac. I am maxing out with 8 cores running at 4.4ghz. There is simply WAY more power in my pc for conversion than internal dac chips. My dac uses dual ess9038 pros too
Dear Hans, plays the Brigde Gapless?
The Brooklyn Bridge only functions as a Roon Endpoint. This means you must use Roon to send music to the Bridge. And yes, then it plays music gapless.
How is the sound quality of music recorded on its internal memory and played back directly from with in?
there is no internal memory to record in.
@@TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel on the web page there are option to buy with 1 or 2 tB
I use Audirvana Plus 3 software on my imac ..can i run that into the brooklyn bridge via a usb cable ..97% of listening is now Tidal
If i eliminate (preferable) the imac from the audio system ..can i choose what i listen to via an app on my ipad ? Do i just use the tidal app ?
Seriously considering this unit ..any help is appreciated !
Yes you can. But if you only want to use USB, you could have the same qualtiy with the € 800 cheaper Mytek Brooklyn DAC+
Try qobuz with audirvana. Pretty big sound upgrade over tidal. Also if you are going direct usb from your computer to the Brooklyn get a ifi ipurifier3 to significantly improve the sound. The best bet would be to disconnect the computer from the Brooklyn. I use audirvana to send music to a sotm 200 ultra wirelessly which then is hooked up via USB to my dac. That's best best sound.

Hi watched the mytek brooklyn bridge video on there www site and my question now seems silly ..i see they have an app ..so i don’t have to use roon or Audirvana software at all ..and banish the imac and noise with it ..Thank You for amazing informative videos ..i made a donation as i have gotten a great deal out of your videos ..i think the Brooklyn Bridge is in m future ..in the Black as the Black always sounds better ..lol
badd99
I have a 30 day qobuz subscription and im listening now ..i like they have a bunch of albums and artists Tidal does not ..i may keep it ..or get it back later ..i have too many subscriptions between audio and video ..
Im going to go for the full brooklyn bridge and try to remove the computer .. haven’t played a cd in a long time ..may get all my cds ripped to a new hard disk .. i have them now but some are not in aiff ..but in mp4.. and sell the rotel cd player its 1 yr old an di have the boxes and perhaps the rotel integrated amp as well ..and buy a a better power amp and be done with equipment
@@presidentpotato222 best of luck! I ended up keeping qobuz and tidal as they are synergistic imo
Has anyone had any issues with the Brooklyn Bridge streaming function? I just received mine and so far it nearly constantly chokes when using Roon, skipping to the next song due to "bandwith/connectivity" issues. It had the problem on both wired and wifi and I don't seem to have the same trouble with a pro-ject audio S2 ultra in the room. I thought I maxed out the buffer via the windows app. Any advice is appreciated, it there another buffer setting on the Bridge that I'm missing? This thing might be going back; I can't properly test it, since it has stopped on every song on Qobuz. Thanks!
I have no problems with my Brooklyn Bridge. You best go to community.roonlabs.com and post your problem there.

How difference are Mytek Brooklyn Bridge and Cocktail Audio HA500H in term of Sound?

@@TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel I watched both of your videos and both products you said were good. I am looking for a warmer DAC/Pre-Amp. Which one would be warmer? Mytek BB or HA500H? Thank you.
They both are good. I would focus on the features you need. Thise are quite different products having different features.
Have heard this unit does not support Airplay, is that correct?
Correct
The Hans Beekhuyzen Channel While Manhattan II dac does support Airplay with the option network card. I wonder whther there is some expensive Airplay license to pay? If not, i cannot understand the Bridge not having Airplay. I asked this question to a Mytek reseller and this was his answer: theres is no need for wifi on a hi-level DAC!
If you use MQA enabled DAC such as this one and told it to transfer the audio to a different endpoint do you lose the benefits of MQA?
So for example:
MQA Streamer/DAC -> Roon endpoint -> NON-MQA Headphone DAC/AMP
MQA will only work as long as the file remains unaltered in the digital domain. So once it leaves the DAC in analog shape, you can't digitize it and send it to a Roon Endpoint and remain MQA quality.
Can you compare it with NAD C658?
Yu find my review of the C658 here: ua-cam.com/video/c04EJODliww/v-deo.html
The Hans Beekhuyzen Channel I watched it, but there is no comparison between Bridge. I meant VS video.
I also find out that NAD c658 still has a lot of bugs.
Thank you!
maybe that's a stupid question. can I it play for 20 hours? (This is about headphones burn in)
It's not a stupid question (it's stupid not to ask if you need the info). My Brooklyn is always on and I use it frequently to burn in other equipment for a week or zo at 24/7. So, 20 hours is not problem.
